  • Another incredible line accessibile directley from the Aiguille du Midi. Starts as for the Mallory, cutting across the main face onto the ridge lookers right until the demi lune, then cuts left into a couloir that winds all the way down to just above the mid station. Dropping in from the summit ridge onto the main face is pretty intense - patches of bare ice were visible on this steep and hugely exposed slope, and striaghtlining it across these onto the better snow across the face is the only way to go. Managing the sluff from multiple parties on the face the day after a big storm was also challenging - managing multiple parties on a line like this is quite a unique problem in Chamonix that we dont experience back in New Zealand! 2x raps to get through rock / ice bands - in fat years can be skiied without these. After a late spring May storm there was incredible snow on the upper section, and it was fully on, getting faceshots down the Midi North face was a pretty unreal experience. As we got to the lower part of the couloir the snow got firmer and there were a few icy secitons, I downclimbed about 50m to avoid the worst of the ice. An incredible last day in Chamonix for 2024

Unbelievable conditions on the upper section , I definitely wasn't expecting to ever get faceshots on the Midi North face

Crying in the break room as I watch this at work as I’m realizing how futile my life is while my time here is fleeting. Thank you.

don't worry Crackkk the stars have to be in line to do that route, the risk is 100% 100 days a year plus under your belt, consistant over years need min to be safe enough to know you will never F#$ up not once on it, does make you think though what if... it drops so hard you cant even see the route under the tram just bands of snow then rocks, then the valley nearly two miles over the drops. its being skied more and more, really wild stuff. These guys are in Chamonix legends of.

My God a love these videos where you crazy MF-ers clip in and rappel mid-way down an already terrifying run.

The exposure is super full on, especially the top section ....a whole lot of air underneath you! Keeps the focus sharp for sure

@@joecollinson6232 Going up the lift in 98 with non other than our guide who was in blizzard of ahhs Murray Ball, the north face under us was a bit rough looking, i said would be cool to try that , he goes . " I guarantee you would not make it down alive " from just a turn by turn basis not the risk.. but turn by turn how did it feel skiing that versus poubel ? a ton steeper i bet. what a dream to do that glad you made it down without issues. its amazing to think there are serveral groups on it when its skiable now. do the new skis post 2005 era help allot on this kind of descent? seems you can let the skis slide more less jump turning, less chance of catching edge, more manuaverable how long skis did you use? ever try kite ski skiing? check out my off road skate eheheh.
