I did permatex on both halves a little might sqeeze in but it does get stiffer with time and i knew the motor would sit a long time before starting. I also used same sealer on all case bolts this will give a more un iform torque. I still need to build my heads so I will watch assembly part two later when i am ready. Also i watch others . Really great job!
You’ve done a great job Annie! I know you were nervous being your first VW engine build but I’m super proud of you! Stellar job, you’re attention to detail shows how much you’ve researched. As for the break in lube, that’s usually just for the lifter faces and cam lobes. It has a slight grit to it to help the 2 surfaces mate in. The lifter body usually gets oil only. However, don’t stress about it, before you fire it up just let it build oil pressure for a bit first and you’ll be just fine. Can’t wait for you to make more progress, congratulations on your progress!!!
Thanks Gary! I’m not sure that stuff I put on the cam and lifters was technically break in lube. Just assembly lube with Moly-graphite. It didn’t feel gritty at all. I’ve seen some new cams come with some break in lube but this one didn’t. But good advice nonetheless about building some oil pressure up before the first start up. I’ll be sure to do that!
Congratulations on the build! Your method of reading up and then doing it your way is a path to success. So many folks get hung up or derailed with everyone's opinions of "the right way" to do it. Two books and a bit of common sense will make for a good running motor!
Thanks Adam! And I agree with what you’re saying. You ask 10 different people for advice and you’ll get 10 different answers! And all of them probably good, haha.
You are doing a great job Annie, looking nice and you first take a lot off effort to know a lot about these engines. Keep up the good work and keep them coming those video’s 👍👍👍 Greeting from a other UA-camr from Belgium.
Thank you, it’s been a lot of work to get to where I felt I learned everything I needed to know in order to tackle the engine. It’s been a rewarding experience!
Good job! Gives me encouragement to tackle my bus project.
Thanks! Just do your homework and I’m sure you’ll do great!

Glad you made the move..🎉
You are awesome and I so appreciate your step by step explanations. It really helps me understand my own engine better. Keep it up!
Is a good job keep going
