That’s exactly my situation. I’ve got a 2006 Honda pilot with 177,000 excellent miles on it and will be looking to replace it this year. But I am so torn between this passport, which is rather stodgy and doesn’t have all the bells and whistle‘s that the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe comes with. Like you I do not need a third row. The size is perfect because this is actually the same size as a 2006 pilot. The pilot grew but I don’t need that length in my garage. So I’m so torn. Annoying thing in the Santa Fe is that they do not have fog lights! How can you not have fog lights? And yet they have so many more bells and whistle ‘s, including 360° camera and a larger infotainment screen and the digital camera for when you turn right or left with your signals. I understand for 2022 that the Honda passport will be doing a major design change. I love the idea of the V-6 engine, which is what I have in my 2006 AWD, I’m afraid they might eliminate this V6. I’m not in any hurry to buy, but I want to get one more new car before they take away my keys. (😂😂😂).
But I did lease mine at the end of 2019 and Honda was really giving a sweet deal. Got the EXL for $350 a month with only about $1800 out of pocket. That includes the tax and 12000 per year.
I just got a used 2021 Honda passport with 30k miles on it. I’m impressed with its handling of curves and turns. And the space is crazy awesome! Doesn’t feel like I’m driving a big vehicle at all. Great vehicle that doesn’t get talked about much.
I've owned my Passport 2019 for 4 months now. It is definitely bigger than my 13 years owned Sante Fe. I wanted the v6 which the new Sante Fe didn't have. It's solid ride. I love it. What I don't like is the traffic sensors. I live on curvy road countryside and the sensors detect things that aren't there. I turned off lane assist, but the head on break warning is still a problem, such as street signs, cars in opposite lane on a turn. Oh and the tiny drain hole by windshield blades to get the rainwater out, we have pollen and leaves that clog there and I have to be mindful to clean regularly. Small pet peaves, but a little annoying. I did look into the Sante Fe XL which has a v6 like my old one but couldn't find any near me.
Yes that’s my dilemma right now… Something like the Santa Fe calligraphy versus perhaps waiting for the 2022 passport in the hope that Honda will improve some of the styling… I do not like those tail lights… And give a 360° camera and a few more bells and whistles.
I picked up a new 2020 Passport Elite at the end of February 2021 and really like it. Pros: Good power, smooth transmission, safety features, ease of entry/exit, plenty of room (I'm 6'1"), it's a Honda. Cons: Gas mileage is pretty much as advertised and Eco mode does seem to help give you an extra mpg or two, but when you use it, your climate control operates at a slightly reduced level and you can tell throttle response is a tad slower. The ride on smooth highways at speed is great, but I find the ride on streets to be a bit stiffer than I expected. Nor a big issue, just different. I've put just under 4,000 miles on it and am really a happy customer so far.
@@bludragontruck9743 Hi. I'm about to hit the 40K miles mark on the car, having driven it on multiple extended road trips from my home in San Diego to Yellowstone, Chicago, Arizona, Utah, Yosemite, etc., so a bit of mountain and mostly highway driving. I've taken it on dirt/gravel roads in the Alabama Hills, but sedans can navigate those roads, too, without much risk or difficulty, so it really wasn't a good test of off-road capabilities for the Passport. I would like to attempt a bit more light off-road stuff in the Anza-Borrego Desert where the "roads" are mostly packed dirt and sand, but the lack of good recovery points and the 20-inch wheels have made me reluctant to be too adventurous. The new TrailSport version with its 18-inch wheels and more aggressive tires (still not true off-road tires) would be better for light off-roading, IMHO. (I like to do landscape photography as a hobby and was hoping to get into some more remote locations with my Passport. Maybe I just need to get some experience and confidence with my Passport's capabilities and give it a try.) The other area that I really haven't tried yet is driving in winter weather conditions (snow/ice), so I can't speak to the car's capabilities in those circumstances. (When it does snow in the mountains east of San Diego, I generally avoided it because of all the crowds wanting to play in the snow. It's pandemonium.) I've kept up with the scheduled maintenance at the dealer, and there have been no maintenance issues to speak of. That is, up until this week, when I received a recall notice for a cable issue. There was one other recall for a software-related issue that was resolved by doing a software update during a normal service visit. Mileage has been okay. On my cross-country trips, I set the cruise control at or just above the speed limit and typically average 25-26 mpg. City driving is about 19 mpg. I do love the amount of storage that the Passport has. There is a large hidden compartment under the deck in the rear and, with the rear seats folded down, I can fit a ton of stuff in the back. (I can also lie down pretty much flat if I need to and I'm 6'1".) All in all, I'm quite pleased with my Passport and plan to hang onto it for a while.
I've had my 2019 Elite for 18 months and love it like the day I bought it. Had a 2016 Edge which I liked but had some regrets pretty quick. This passport is what it seems. Very well considered.
🤘I have watched prop 25 vids on the Passport and honestly yours is in the top 5. Your honest and natural speaking as like a friend talking to the cam is awesome. After many enjoyable and trouble free years driving my Acura Cl-S, I was looking to move on to a new vehicle and first spotted the CV-R. The historical engine problems and Honda's apparent unwillingness to admit error and repair its problems killed that option for me. Then the new Acura RDX was announced. I had driven an older RDX several years prior, and it was a driving mess; no way. Then, it appeared that the new RDX would be equipped only in the current marketing trend with a turbo blown 2.0 liter and and a dash board control layout like the spawn of a one night stand between a a BWM and a Wurlitzer jutebox. Forget it. Then the Passport. Good drive train with well proven reliable components. Controls laid out for the convenience of the driver rather than the ad-man. Good features. Good price relative to the RDX. A no-brainer for me.
Welp, I wish you can get the Elite in 2WD. I’m liking the long option list. One thing that draws my attention, how quick it is. The 3.5 is underrated on paper. There’s more under the hood. It is quicker than a 5.7 R/T Durango. Honda is working on “manning up” there trucks. See what the 2022’s look like. I’m looking to punt the Pathfinder I got stuck driving since the wife is at home. The Escape has become “too light”.
ZF trans, don’t fca vehicles use the same trans? Like the Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand/Cherokee. Even the new wranglers. I’m guessing they’re reliable since Honda is using them now.
I'm now hearing that the Accord Crosstour is coming back. If so where is it going to compete because the Passport is in that category where the Crosstour used to be in.
Everyone's just capitalizing off this trend even Toyota is bringing back a Venza there's literally no need for so many of these vehicles but whatever lol
Haven't finished the video but I know it'll be another great one, I've always wondered why car companies use turbo 4 cylinders when the V-6 gets similar horsepower and MPG, and I'm really surprised as to how much it's depreciation
Thanks brother! And they use it for two reasons, to pad their numbers on paper for CAFE standards since regulations are getting stricter, doesn't matter if it performs in real life just as long as it performs on paper. Dang that looks sweet! Even semi boring suburban Mom car gets exciting all blacked up/out! Come to think of it pretty much any vehicle looks way better black. Would you agree Kevin?
The passport is a great !ll around vehicle! And it has an amazing sounding 3.5 v6! Honda & Acura make some of the best v6 engines. I could definitely see myself in one of these if I was an SUV guy.
This makes me miss my 2016 Accord with that sonorous J35 V6 engine when hitting red line. Keep it up! Try to review the 2.0 on the new accord, it's a good comparison for the engines since it replaces the v6.
It is a huge model. I don’t think this model is sold in Europe... Interesting to see that Honda is pushing their construction to a bigger SUV. But when this gets too bi, it becomes a truck in that segment. The engine sounds quite good I have to say.
Oh yea probably not sold in Europe this will only ever make sense in the States other Countries know this doesn't make a lot of sense lol but yea I'll take it for that V6 alone lol
Very cool, I like how they offer the old school Honda V6 in these! I'd be interested to see what you think of the new CR-V if you can review an EX-L or above trim.
I'm trying to wrap my head around the depreciation but anywho if I needed a small SUV this elite would be on my list. For now I'm rocking the sexiest accord ever made as a daily😎😁
Oh I did not know these cars had Apple carplay and audio issues. Kia also had some issues with that back in 2018 not sure if they fixed that tho. But yes great ride for sure
I had a problem with my infotainment system. It kept switching screens. The android auto would not work correctly. It turned out, they had to replace the touchscreen. In the shop for 3 days. It's been fine since and LOVE the car. 2019 Passport, bought Oct 2019.
The armrests are not a dealbreaker but they certainly are annoying when you compare it to the interior of the 2021 Santa Fe. But then again, the Santa Fe has no fog lights! !! 😡😡😡
Thank you Kevin. It seems like you were bored with the review. Can't blame you. Still though Kevin, you have to admit, 20 years from now, the fit and finish (& reliability) will still be top notch. Take care man.
I love the Honda J series, its a very good engine. There are a lot of good V6 engines out there, the J series is among my favorites. The Nissan VQ as well.
Hi Kevin, I can’t decided between the Honda Passport Elite and the Lexus RX350 AWD . I know you did a review on the Lexus too and I did watch both . I would love to hear your thoughts please .
Hey thanks so much for stopping by. Yea that's a tough one I think for 36k you could probably get some amazing Certified Pre Owned Lexus RX 350s. Honestly that would be a superior vehicle but If you needed to have the newer brand new car with Apple Carplay and stuff, the Passport is nice. But I think a CPO RX is better
Exhaust Sports Auto your so amazing Kevin and this was my first ever you tube comment because I felt the need of your advice lol because I really can’t decided lol your replied so fast omg thank you so much . I can’t decide I’m looking at the 2020 models for both car .
@@MeynMotorGroup 1:39 , guess the wheel well spacing. Has that pathfinder look, big body skinny wheels. That said it's an easy fix. And with that V6 option def the best option imo for this market.
i just cant deal with the depreciation. id honestly just get a used lexus lx as if i want a suv capable offroad, and if i want performance i'll go for a used porsche cayenne. both are pretty reliable and can be had for same price as the passport, but are way way cooler
So the problem with "reliable" cars is yes they won't leave you stranded on the road but, parts cost a fortune when you need to replace them. You can do it yourself or take it to someone you know but you still need to buy the parts
This is why when i bought my 2020 elite I insisted I get it right off the hauler. I don't care if the manuals do not tell you to break things in slowly but I understand mechanical devices. So lets give the car to someone to flog and wring out as you put it NO THANKS
Exhaust Sports Auto Thanx bro I try my best to show support to u and your channel it’s a hot one today bro but Thank God we have the best ac in our Lexuses cold as a freezer 🥶 lol 😎
This is true but over 7 million people who are not car enthusiasts are the ones dictating the market and over 7 million is the cumulative amount of SUVs sold in the United States annually. Car manufacturers would be out of business if they listened to us 😆
How do you like the KIA being stolen through a simple process AND big insurance companies not insuring that particular vehicle for that particular reason? /rhetorical ?

I came real close on “talking” my way on getting the KIA. One: it’s hard to get one. Dealers can’t keep them in.Two: I’m still adjusting to the rear styling. Single exhaust output. What’s weird , I like the Palisades rear better but hate the front end. Three: KIA/Hyundai uses solid tappets in the variable valve timing setup. They have to be adjusted every 60k miles. If not, you might develop a tick.

Those mini-van style armrests integrated into the seats and no panoramic sunroof are the dealbreakers for me.
fred jeep I know I just like having a center console armrest it feels more like a suv then
The armrests are not a dealbreaker but they certainly are annoying when you compare it to the interior of the 2021 Santa Fe. But then again, the Santa Fe has no fog lights! !! 😡😡😡
great vid new sub
Thanks so much for your support!
Yup I was going to say that but forgot there are a lot of V6s but the Honda one is very special and yes VQ is also very good
@@MeynMotorGroup I agree
For a fun drinking game, you should take a shot every time he says “This thing” or “Ridiculous “ 😂
Doesn't sound very fun
Finally has a V6? The Passport had always had a V6..Even the old Isuzu-based Passport had a V6. But you are correct the Honda V6 is one of the greats.
Slip of tongue but yes they are great 👍
I have yet to see these on the streets and they’ve been out for more than a year.
Really? I see a few
I have seen zerooooo
Jeep Grand Cherokees all around me though.
I have an accord. But damn that looks so good
This is very nice
Pretty sure this is best in class cargo actually
The Elites were never 47K! Upper 44K was the MSRP... most people paid 40-42.5K
Fully loaded Elites sticker for 45k awd is close to 2k all i can quote is MSRP prices
Just to let you know the rav 4 is even smaller than the crv just to let you know!
In what regards
Lol “stupid idiots all around me” 👌👌
24/7 my friend and it's only going to get worse
the wheels don't look to proportion
In what way? Because it sits too high?
@@MeynMotorGroup 1:39 , guess the wheel well spacing. Has that pathfinder look, big body skinny wheels. That said it's an easy fix. And with that V6 option def the best option imo for this market.
I like that the passport sits up high. I want that 8 inch ground clearance and higher entry.
i just cant deal with the depreciation. id honestly just get a used lexus lx as if i want a suv capable offroad, and if i want performance i'll go for a used porsche cayenne. both are pretty reliable and can be had for same price as the passport, but are way way cooler
So the problem with "reliable" cars is yes they won't leave you stranded on the road but, parts cost a fortune when you need to replace them. You can do it yourself or take it to someone you know but you still need to buy the parts
Mans said a Porsche is “reliable”🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is why when i bought my 2020 elite I insisted I get it right off the hauler. I don't care if the manuals do not tell you to break things in slowly but I understand mechanical devices. So lets give the car to someone to flog and wring out as you put it NO THANKS
I dont think you understand much of anything
My friend abdo just bought this Honda bassboor
Haha nice you must be an Ownage Pranks listener
Yooo bro just stopping by 👊🏾✊🏾👍🏾👍🏾
You're the best bro!
Exhaust Sports Auto Thanx bro I try my best to show support to u and your channel it’s a hot one today bro but Thank God we have the best ac in our Lexuses cold as a freezer 🥶 lol 😎
@@theodoreyoung8777 Words can't express my gratitude brother yea that Lexus AC works good as hell a little too good lol
Exhaust Sports Auto Lol now that’s a fact bro I love it 👍🏾👍🏾
A Honda SUV that does not us a CVT. I'm in!
Haha yea I mainly love the V6
@@MeynMotorGroup I sat in that ride at the dealership. I never knew about the hp until today. It's not the sexiest SUV but it is powerful.
Yea it will def haul for sure nice little ride
I'm a sedan man, so no I wouldn't.
You're a rare breed nowadays
@@MeynMotorGroup Yeah I know. But CUV's are just the soccer mom minivans of today, so no thanks.
This is true but over 7 million people who are not car enthusiasts are the ones dictating the market and over 7 million is the cumulative amount of SUVs sold in the United States annually. Car manufacturers would be out of business if they listened to us 😆
@@MeynMotorGroup Yeah I don't disagree, thankfully theres still plenty of good sedans being made today.
I'm glad certain auto makers still care despite profits
I’d rather get a Kia Telluride personally
Yea I love the Telluride just hate how they are marking up the fully loaded trims
How do you like the KIA being stolen through a simple process AND big insurance companies not insuring that particular vehicle for that particular reason?
/rhetorical ?
@@CC_Marauder I have a Kia and I’ve never had it stolen once

The interior is so ugly tho
Hondas aren't known for their interiors. I would get a Mazda if the interior is important
👍✔
Thanks again sir!
Would rather get a Kia Telluride, and you get more seats.
Telluride is amazing
The Flying Brompton
No kidding! Fire starters and also beyond horrific resale value. Not so with a Honda.
