    I think it's worth noting that supposedly the higher trim levels that is Touring and Elite offer acoustic glass all around which will obviously contribute to a quieter ride inside the cabin.

    • @ak4939
      @ak4939 2 роки тому +3

      I was all set to buy the EX-L version, when I went through the specs in detail, which made me switch to the touring model. Yes, acoustic glass all around, full LED headlights (and not just the low-beams as in the EX-L), Roof Rails, Navigation system (not a big deal, since I use Apple Carplay/Google maps), larger wheels (8.5" wide) and larger tires (265/45/20), hands-free access rear-tailgate, front/rear parking sensors, front and rear heated seats (EX-L only has front heated). premium 10-speaker audio system, wi-fi hotspot capability, a few additional interior lighting knick-knacks over the EX-L etc. I am however disappointed that not a single passport model offers a panoramic sunroof like the Pilot, or the beige interior.

      @juliusq75 Рік тому +1

      Not supposedly higher trim level- the remote start and upgraded sound system alone is worth the Touring for me. Didn’t know about the acoustic glass, that’s awesome. Thanks for the heads up!

      @@ak4939 Think about it though, the sunroof needs to be cleaned once every so often. And it can even flood. My mother has this car, she is so happy without the sunroof.

      @@madness0169 people have personal preferences, but I have had cars equipped with sunroofs for over 20+ years, and never had an adverse event happen. I have owned cars with panoramic Sunroofs for around 6+ years (including my current 2022 Mercedes E450 Wagon and a 2021 Acura RDX), and other than the wide, open, airy feel in a car with a panoramic roof, there were absolutely no disadvantages that I experienced. I love my 2020 touring awd! It drives amazing and i love the cargo space. You really dont need more back seats, it just makes it cluttered. Thanks for your review. I went to buy a Ridgeline and loved it. It drives and feels super, then, I look behind and saw an empty bed and thought twice (not being a truck guy). Then, they gave gave me a Pilot to drive and I loved it, but then, I look behind and saw too many seats (being an empty nester already), and no room for my bicycle. Then, I tried the 2021 Passport Touring AWD and felt in love. I ended up buying the last one. Thanks for your review, it was very complete. I certainly love my Passport Touring. My first SUV was an Isuzu Rodeo in 2003 and had it for 10 years. I certainly like this passport. I do recommend to anyone. I tried the Toyota 4Runner and all their comparables and did not find the comfort as the Passport. Go Honda.

    I recently traded in my 2021 Acura RDX (SH-AWD + Technology) after 3 months of ownership, for a 2021 Honda Passport Touring. The reason being the shallow hatch height of 30” in the Acura, which prevented me from putting in a full-size dog crate that’s 31” tall, and could not fit even my medium-sized mountain bike within the hatch area. These are just regular use cases and Acura’s design team need to be fired for not considering these. The 2022 MDX, a much larger vehicle, also has the same 30” hatch height problem.
    For comparison, the Honda CRV’s hatch is 36” tall (a sheer marvel in packaging) and the Honda Pilot and Honda Passport have 33-34” of hatch height. My new 2021 Honda Passport Touring meets all of my utility vehicle needs……can easily fit the dog crate, can easily swallow up the mountain bike.
    Having said that, Acura is not the only culprit here…….the Subaru Ascent, the Subaru Forester, the Subaru Crosstrek, the Toyota RAV4 are all in the unusably shallow hatch height category and it is a shame to call these utility vehicles, if they cannot cater to such mundane use cases

    I test drove this and might buy it, but it does have a couple of negatives:
    1. No 360 degree camera. Scary in a big SUV. And you don’t get parking sensors until the Touring trim, so the EX-L he was driving doesn’t have it.
    2. Big turning radius. Along with the lack of 360 degree camera and usual lack of parking sensors, worries me about parking dings.
    3. The foot-activated parking brake is too close to my left ankle and shin. I was constantly aware of it while driving and it also made me wonder if it could break and pin my left leg in an accident. I prefer hand brakes or electronic parking brakes for these reasons.
    4. Disliked the button gear selector. I prefer the old style gear selectors.
    Loved the spacious and airy feeling, and that cargo hold is gigantic. And loved the engine.

      AH Benjamin - Yes, Honda’s AWD system can transmit up to 70% of engine torque to the rear wheels and up to 100% of that to either left or right rear wheel via true active torque vectoring (with clutch pack). This is much the same as Acura’s SH-AWD system.
      The Subaru Forester with CVT transmission can only transfer up to 50% of engine torque to the rear wheels and does not have active torque vectoring

    Be aware that there are a number of safety features that you may want to turn off or minimize. We have a 2020 model and there are 2 things that make us hate driving our Passport. 1) The lane keep assist system (LKAS) creates a "wobble" in the steering wheel when you get close to another lane (or anything that looks like a lane marker). We turn this OFF as the vibration in the steering wheel is strong enough that it can startle the driver to a point of either letting loose or over compensating our steering. We have had our Passport in multiple times to address this safety issue occurring while driving straight in a lane. Seems the sensor may detect objects like temporary lanes, seams in the road, etc. as lane markers. Honda says this is normal. 2) The driver assist system is setup where if you get too close to an obstacle, a "WARNING" message is displayed across the dash. If the object is too close, the car will apply the brake.. We have learned to turn this off by holding the CMBS button; and we change the vehicle settings to reduce the distance it registers obstacles to "short". Again, we have had Honda look at this safety feature as we not only get the "BRAKE" message but the car will actually apply brakes with nothing in front of us. Although we get this to happen just about every other time we go out, Honda is unable to reproduce the problem. My two cents? Be a driver and find a car that doesn't have so many "safety" features.

    If anyone in Honda USA management or the design team is reading this: Can you bring back the Honda 1st generation pilot as the next new Honda Passport? The exterior and interior design of the 1st generation pilot were awesome and suitable for a lot of people's needs and comfort. I believe its wheel base was similar or even slightly smaller than the new passport. The differences I would like to see are a hybrid or plug in hybrid option, standard 4X4, electronic emergency brake, gear shift like the honda crv instead of that bar hanging out of the steering wheel area, back up camera, apple car play and side mirrors with blind spot warning. Also a D shaped steering wheel. If you were to come out with a 1st generation pilot refresh with these features I wouldn't hesitate buying . You had a winning design inside and out with the 1st generation pilot. Make my automotive dream come true!

    I keep hearing complaints about the fussy electronics on the vehicle like erratic cruise control, infotainment works spotty, etc. I have a ford escape and it will at times have similar problems. You have to understand that technology is not 100% guaranteed to work all the time. You have to measure the amount of usefuless you get from it. If you feel your car slowing just step on the accelerator and overide or reset it. Everything has a fluke once in a while, computers, lights, people, etc. I think in the uder $40,000 range the passport is a good option. Its mechanic friendly, does not use turbos, has lots of room, has large towing capacity, and lots of standard safety features in the price range. If someone finds a car that last forever and works perfect all the time let me know because I want one. I never hear of long-term owners complaing of losing money trying to fix a honda problem which mechanics never solve, like I do with other brands BMW,AUDI, MINI COOPER, MERCEDES, LEXUS, ETC. The worst cars for the average income income person are the german cars.

    Why Honda doesn't include their low speed follow (Stop n' go) in the adaptive cruise control on this model. But the bigger Pilot has it is beyond me. And the reason I wouldn't look at the Passport.

    I hope they fixed the Honda interface problem. They probably didn’t. Because the 2019 one was absolutely terrible. Recalls after recall, that annoying popping sound coming from the speakers is horrible, and I still can’t use my Bluetooth to talk it constantly dropsCalls all the time and the interface freezes up every single time. And this is not just mine they had to recall all 2019’s for the same problem some got fixed with the recall, some wouldn’t. I would LOVE to purchase again when my lease is up but I’m DREADING having the same problem with the interface.

Lots of storage and comfortable driving. Thanks for the review. We added the mud flaps, 3M window treatment and wish we would of also added running boards. It sets up pretty high.

    The publications on the cargo space is confusing. There are a lot of web posts that indicate 100 ft3 behind the first row of seats. I'm looking for a vehicle for my son to drive to college and needs the space. The CRV has 76 cubic feet with the seats folded. I was set on CRV until I read many reviews that indicate 100 cubic feet behind the first row on the Passport. This video says 77.9 cubic feet....Edmunds shows 100. The underfloor space is not the difference.

    • @DriversOnly

      Just go look at it in person and decide what's best. The passport's cargo room is much wider and deeper than the CRV.

    I love my 2020 but wish I would have known about the 'big and spacious' interior. As I am tired of being the chauffeur there was no reason to get the Pilot with the extra row of seating. The Passport has a lot of headroom front and back. No floor hump in the back seat which some cars have. As I am 6ft the front seat has enough legroom but not sure if you are taller. I would have chosen the Mazda CX9 but for one problem, the CX9 you can't spread your legs (mansplain?) when driving. I would not have chosen the VW Atlas because of 2 bad/money pit VWs I have had and reading the reviews of mechanics with respect to VW nowadays. The Passport was easily better quality than anything by KIA/Dodge/Ford/Hyundai/Jeep. After test driving the Passport you simply sit in most other SUVs and notice the difference. Have a CRV which is more fun to drive but a lot smaller. My big Passport problem is the back/luggage space. I have to carry the odd fridge/tv/drywall and it is not big enough. I measured the opening at the back and thought it would be big enough but did not realize the interior wheel well and the interior roof. You can almost put a tv/fridge inside but when you push it inside it hits the roof fairly quickly. The height at the very back is more than the height mid car when you fold the seats. This would be okay if they had some latch outside that you could use to tie down the open trunk to the bottom of the car so you could carry more. This would probably help a lot of people that shop IKEA with small cars and so on. I had to carry 4x8 sheets of drywall but they don't fit inside due to the wheel wells. As I already had the car I installed a hitch in the back to pull a trailer which lets me carry these things for $16/day U-Haul rental. Make sure you get roof rails which I have used a fair bit for drywall and the odd couch. You have to get used to parking it and it makes me miss my old Honda Civic which could park anywhere. Another thing people may find interesting. A Toyota salesman told me Honda quality has really dropped since most of their cars are made in Mexico. I googled and this is true. I mentioned this to the Honda dealer and he agreed but said the Passport is still made in the USA (Kentucky I think) so it still has the quality. It sort of has the lane assist/self driving but you have to really keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel as it lets you wander into the next lane. They wife's Acura RDX is ten times more fun to drive and it drives itself but it is not a work horse and costs a lot more.

    Wow a rating of 99. I am a huge Honda fan and i have owned 9 Honda’s now. But I see several cons in rating this vehicle, for one the price it’s almost the same as the pilot and the major different you lose 3 seats and its 6 inches shorter. Two the interior has some plastic finishes in some areas that make it look very cheap in quality. The rear end looks like a Ford Explorer or Ford Edge from a few years ago its already looks outdated. For a vehicle that holds 5 passengers its doesn’t have the greatest mpg but i guess if you occasionally towing something then maybe you could justify needing the extra hp/torque. The rear only has one row of seats and you can’t adjust as in slide the seats back and forward for added room ? Last the rear door wheel well corners are now sharp edges, not only does this look cheap but for anyone that has smaller kids they don’t always think when they hop out and that would be a nightmare for other Honda’s in the driveway. When i first heard Honda was bringing back the passport i thought that would be a nice fit between the CRV and the Pilot , after seeing pricing i asked myself why would anyone buy this over a pilot. Honda can do better, I don’t agree with a rating of 99, IMO probably mid 80s. Honda use to be a hidden gem , as in you would get a lot of bang for your buck, today some Models are more buck then the bang.

    • @chrism3731
      @chrism3731 3 роки тому

      Hopefully an eventual redesign fixes some of these hiccups. The interior does feel a bit cheap for the price, the gloss black plastic was a questionable choice. The infotainment system is below average, I'd purchased in 2019 and sold a few months ago and I had to purchase a USB keyboard to reboot the infotainment screen when it froze. Blame first year issues. but I just saw they issued a recall to fix the intrument cluster.

      It's going after a different market. Many consumers were complaining that they don't need a 3rd row, something that can be more agile for off roading, and be slightly cheaper. Many 2 rows suv are smaller in size, so Honda is trying to capture this group of consumers.

    Just bought a 2021 ex-l The negatives as I see them are , the ride is bumpy in the rear, it will rattle your teeth over pot holes. Not even close to the 2011 muarno we traded. CVT in murano made me seek alternative vehicles. Captain chair arm rests may be ok for thin people but us wider variety.... not so much. The engine shuts off at lights and while you can disable the feature, each time you shut the car off and restart it, the damned thing defaults back to enabled. There is a company called idlestopper with an $80 module that can switch the default to disabled. Just what I want to do now, spend more on this car. The pluses are many, I hope I can improve ride quality... and I'm not buying 18"wheels and tires. Maybe shocks and maybe even springs. A little disappointed but still better than most other choices IMO.
