Boss is killing it. The ES-8 and ES-5 switchers are amazing value. And now this! This stuff is allowing me to ditch my Line 6 Helix and go back to analog pedals and tube amp! Yay!
Brian Chaze Boss dosent have to come out with anything new and they would still be killing it.
Paul Raudenbush Jr TRUE!
Not a patch on Helix...
In tel aviv 2000 US dollar 😮
Boss's take on the UA Ox. Looks good.
nitemunky76 and the two notes torpedo live.
@@ThornWithin True.
Once again, BOSS releasing something amazing only to be overshadowed by the awesome room setting they showcase it in...
You are right, there is quite a bit more to the eye that dictates what you are really hearing.
I love BOSS!!! this is absolutely fantastic!
I need that so I can expand my tiny terror lunch box amp .
Great product! Would love to see a reactive "only" version of this, to make it more affordable for those of us who just need a great reactive load to tame the volume of our amps. Cheers
Yes!
Really cool idea, and having Tom demo it is a bonus.
Tom,now doing product intro for Boss? This is really great! No one can do product like YOU. Your explanations of the products are spot on!! Thank you!!
I didn't even know I needed this!!
TQ always produces the finest videos!!
Phenomenal just phenomenal boss did it again
" the experience of your *CHOOB AMP* "
hahahahahahah
TOOOOOOOB
Does he mean Chinese tube amp??
Can't stop noticing it now. He says 'tune ' fine however. 🤔
I'll take that very cool looking pad he is demoing in!
This guy is an amazing guitar player. This is a piece of equipment for studio musicians etc. The everyday guitarist wont get much from this gear.
As soon as I heard interface I was sold.
It's so strange seeing Tom not using laney in a video, this looks so amazing 🤘🤘🤘🤘
This is perfect for those already with high end amps.
Post power amp efx loop is very cool!
Just here for Tom
Whoa. This could be a very useful unit for gigging guys who can't blast their amps. Here in NY, I see a lot of tube heads on Craigslist, as frustrated guitarists give up on trying to make their beloved amps work in a club setting. This could reverse that trend.
A smaller, slimmed down Waza Tube Amp Expander Mini around 400$ could be really interesting.
instaBlaster...
Yep, this is the goods. Was about to pull the trigger on an ox box, will be waiting for this instead. I want it now tho!
I have the ox. Its really good, i did not expect as much from it and had a huge surprise. The ox is not based on IR and it should be better but the selection is very limited tough i did get to the sound i wanted to. I would really recommend waiting for tone comparison video before buying but with the ox, in my opinion, you cant go wrong.
Adir Iakya Thanks mate, will wait for the reviews before I grab one or the other. I like the idea of the loop, power amp and auto volume EQing on this, but it all comes down to sound in the end. I like that the OX is simple to use, this stuff always comes down to simple is best once you get over your tweaking phase. Plus, nothing is transparent. Was pre ordering, but will wait and see. Cheers.
In 30 seconds or less, we just created new tube amp attenuator/cab simulator, it's Boss so it's awesome buy it.
This thing is incredible!
Could you do a demo vid where we can actually hear the gear please? This one was someone talking constantly.
Does this thing adjust impedance? It would be so cool if I could plug in my 8 ohm head into my 16 ohm cabinet using this thing.
I still like non-reactive loads. That is what we use when biasing. Right?
I still do. BTW if one wants more manageable volumes from tube amps, use a lower wattage amp. I used an old stereo tape recorder with one 7591 per side, so 3.5watts clean. Plenty of headroom somehow. For front end I used a Ibanez UE-300. That's a compressor a Tube Screamer plus stereo chorus all in one. Best classic rock setup I ever had. Ran one side into a 2-12 Basmman cab, the other through a [NotMarshall] 4-12.
Good Times
Thank you BOSS for using a real amplifier and non of the shitty ones you make.
Pretty amazing piece of gear.
Can I run my 2 ohm Super Reverb through it?
Also I just wish the computer interface was a little more sexy instead of like a cold, engineering/computer programming screen. That's my only negative from what I have seen. Badass Boss! I was just getting ready to pull the trigger on an Ox. Now i have to wait for a side by side comparison
The Tube Amp Expander is better. I've played both side by side in person.
Minimum 4 ohm input.
Looks and sounds great.
Good. I hope it will wake up UA ... the ox (which is really awesome) did not update for quite a long time with new features. We need more cabs....
Very cool product
Just bought an Ox Box lol. This seems like a cool product but I’m happy with the Ox
Me too.
This is way more than a OX Box, beyond the load box and attenuation, speaker IR, this adds a power amp to boost low watt amps, an effect loop for any amp (that is not affected by amp gain) and effects built in as well. Foot switch and midi controllable features. This thing is tempting.
so take a example , if i have vintage amp like, marshall slp 1959 or laney la30bl , can i use tube amp expander plug into these amp for get the tone that i want to use?
Is the fx loop routing 100% analog for series or parallel when using external fx? Also, what is the effect on power tube tone with fx loop engaged, given that the series or parallel loop is being inserted post power amp as opposed to post preamp on amps that have a built in fx loop?
Like it, but have a Gx 100 your Sneakers are Killer! Which Brand ?
Boss. Putting guitar players in dept since we figured out that you will spend more than you have and justify it without logic. But this looks like a logical purchase because reasons.
Edit - Dammit... Bought it... I guess i can take out a loan for my divorce attorney...
Tom does a great job at explaining it. Going down a gear hole isnt for me. I have a Runt 20, FenderBB15, YamTHR10X, Katana50,Fly3 . W editors,DAW, Quality varied guitars. Im already overwhelmed Haha. I have tone. Its enough if not too much. :)
Just got my TAE last weekend and really impressed with it as a whole. The only issue I’m having is if I get anywhere near the unit with a guitar it starts squealing and feeding back. I’m not running a high gain rig, Fender DRRI, pedalboard with various medium gain overdrives. I have the unit away from my amp on my desk for convenience of recording so I’m not sure what’s causing this issue??
*video starts* TOM QUAYLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *smiles*
What s nice is that it has the built in USB interface so straight into the Computer !! I wonder if you can input your accompanying audio in at the same time ? ie External input ??
I wish the next version will have stereo fx loop
is reverb stereo? manual does not show this. delay options have stereo but stereo into mono reverb not making any sense. Im getting one so would like to find out.
I get the feeling that box is more expensive than that Friedman.....
£1200 for the Boss. It's an amazing bit of kit but it does seem like they've done too much in one box.
JGSR ....unless you compare to the UA OX.
I doubt that...have you priced a Friedman lately?
Are you nuts?
Don't know if Boss will see this, and it definitely may come off wrong, BUT, are there any plans regarding a smaller version of this? Slightly less features, but with similar ability. This looks like what I've been looking for, but a simpler model for less would be very interesting. Either way, this looks and sounds amazing! Thanks! Also, came here because of @rabeamassad
Boss OX!
If I do a factory reset will I lose the software update?
I wonder how good is it as an attenuator.
It’s awesome as an attenuator. And does so much more …
Can I play with youtube videos for when I want to just put my amp through headphones? Like both the music and my amp in the headphones at the same time?
Which Ibanez model is that he's playing? Anyone? I dig it.....
Can I Run My Katana 50 into it Because it Don't Have an Effects Loop , and Also Doesn't Have The Ability to Use That GF Foot Switcher !! Can it Be Used Only With Tube Amps or Can it Be Used With Any Type of Amp , Tube or Solid-state ??
Nice.. When is it out in the marked?
Price: £1,143.00 at Andertons...
I bet this is better than the OX. ;)
Can I use this for Power amp? (Connected after preamp pedal or rackmount preamp and before cab)
Probably is a stupid question but, would it work on bass aplifier? Usually bass amp (especially solid state) have 300 W or even 500, am I risking to burn this tube expander?
Can I still use my pedals with it or only boss pedals
do I need to have a send and return on my amp cauz I have a marshall bluesbreaker.
Interesting to see how this'll compare to the Ox and the Two Notes stuff. I'm sure a certain afro-ed up dude will be shooting them out on his channel. :-)
If the transparency of the attenuator was as good as the Fryette PS100 I would buy this today
looks a very interesting device
Loving the tech available now but it tires me out coming up with ways to try and buy it all lol.
I wish some one would be an affordable load box for 150watt heads. I could see where the cab sim out could be of use, but not an effects loop.
guitarguts666 effects loop is handy if you have a super vintage amp without one, same with the reverb. Something like an AC30 or a plexi etc
Has anyone tried one of these boxes with an vintage amp? I want to make sure everything will be good for my Fender 1962 Bandmaster. Thanks!
I've got an '82 2203 JCM800 I run into the Boss and it's great. Highly recommend
So you're saying that the Midi control on this will switch channels on a Mesa Triple Rectifier head? Plus, apply from this device a Load Box basically to keep the volume level from blowing people's heads off? yet I can still crank the amp and switches its channels from your pedal board selector?
Is there a rack mount kit for it? And how much is it?
guitarguts666 yep, pretty much, plus a shit ton more for about $13-1400
Is this campatabel wit h the JVM410HJS? Asking 4 a bud.
Off-topic but any fans of The Mentalist out here? This filming location looks a lot like the old CBI office what with the brick wall, Jane's couch on the left side and a catwalk on the top! :D
Now all you need is a personal engineer available at a moments notice to assist with the usage of this device and then everything is groovy again.
I would like to know if my waza-tae is multi-voltage, so i can use it overseas without a transformer? Can it take 220v as ac IN?
Nope !Internal transformer seems not not to allow this. ( Saw this in a video that opened the unit)
I realize that this is NOT economically priced, but im curious...does it HAVE to be a tube amp?
Question: when Tom says "analog power stage", does he mean TUBE power stage? I didn't get that part
José Gabriel D'Windt solid state
Yeah the power amp inside the tube amp expander is solid state. This is actually better for preserving the tone of the tube amp connected to it as it's just going to transparently pass through your signal, adding or subtracting volume, without coloring it.
You may have answered this in the video, but my tube amp does not have a amp head with it. GA30-RVS, would this product still work with my amp?
Wils Dale - your amp has external speaker out with jacks for left & right but no way to connect back into the in built speakers.
You would have to mod your amp by wiring a speaker lead from the speaker spade terminal figure 8 cable to the Boss and then another speaker cable from the boss unit and connect them to the spade terminals on the speakers.
I have one like yours and a super goldtone - it has a speaker jack because they made them as a head as well as combo.
Great amps but the 15W stereo class A is like an ice pick to the head when cranked!!.
With so many features I’m going to assume it’ll teach me how to play too?
For people who want to show off their vintage tube amp but don’t like vintage tube amps.
How does the build-in poweramp work with the actual tube-poweramp? Which one drives the cab?
Pretty sure it does what most do and what my torpedo reload with Reac tive load does..takes your signal and pushes it through an analog component path and then out to your speaker. So what you are getting is your power tubes run through another power section with the most suitable response curve for the cab it is going into. That allows you to manage volume. Unless you have a tube power section like the fryette does, you are always going to be getting a " copy" of how your tubes react. Still sounds good though!
@@Polentaccio hahaha thanks you just made me pat myself on the back for buying a fryette. :) nothing like a round of self-congratulation on an expensive purchase! (Valvulator GP/DI) this boss thing would be good for people with multiple amps already but I just wanted one flexible one for recording.
Ok is time for my 1986' JCM800 2210 to pick up from garage to apartament.
So, it's like the Two-Notes Torpedo reload, without the effects.
What makes this better?
colaboytje , it has much more options, like the build in effects (you already mentioned that) midi capability so you can switch presets together with other midi connected devices, the important resonance feature, a real poweramp section, and not a simulation. And some more you can find out youreself.
WAZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!
BTW, I'm laughing at all the people who can't quite understand what this is and what it does, even though the guy in the video REPEATEDLY and EXPLICITLY explains it. The internet is way too much for some, it seems.
Yeah whether the price is right just depends... do you need one good tube amp for quiet recording? Get a Fryette Valvulator GP/DI. Do you already have a few amps? This product will make them ALL quiet record & PA capable with just one device instead of buying a bunch of different things to try to fill the gaps. Don't have the money for either? Stick to in the box amp sims no shame we aren't all made of money eh. But this product DEFINITELY fills a niche in a good way.
@NoiseFeedMusic well, now that we've all gotten over amp emulators and vst sims, we're all trying to get back to tubes somehow - the difference between an attenuator and a load box, the useful APPLICATION of these tools needs to become more common knowledge for guitarists. Haha A little light hazing combined with some sincere help and we'll get there.
I can see where you're coming from. For me, I've only played acoustic instruments and so anything more complicated than a Dirty Shirley amp is lost on me. Some people are completely incapable of taking a decent photograph which is pretty shocking considering everybody has a more than capable camera on their phone. Other people play sharp all the fucking time or the damn singer is always flat. Can't they hear that? My point is I have absolutely no experience with sophisticated electronic equipment so it's not something that just comes to me.
My GAS for amps is suddenly flaring back up
Chube or tube amp expander?
Wait for the Fractal LB-1, it will be this plus thousands of IR slots with effects to rival Eventide, probably at a similar price point to this thingy
Most of the tube amps have vents on top and in the manuals it generally says you should not put anything directly on the amp. But i guess making it be bigger to fit below most heads would be nonsensical.. BTW this is awesome piece of geat, and as always Tom Q. is awesome :)
What a load of crap directed at young impressionable guitarists. The only people to gain out of this is BOSS. Do we think the audience takes a lot of notice of the tone after we have spent thousands of £s on the so called tone. NO. just play through a MARSHALL, FENDER, HIWATT, with no bloody pedals sucking the tone away out of your guitar.
"Most of the tube amps have vents on top"
Well, I think it's maybe 50% or less. I have a Bogner XTC and a Cornford MK50 head.. None of these have vents on top.
My Brunetti Mercury head has a vent on the top left side.
Sold a Mesa Mark IV last year - no vent
Rivera M100, Carvin Legacy - no vent
But some of the other amps i had that had a vent:
The Mesa Boogie Road King II (had a vent, i think)
Peavey JSX
JCM 800
So it's a good point to check your amp first, but you could always put something like this somewhere else though.
@@johanaavit i guess You have a more experience with amps sir, thank You for clearing thing out :)
@@lucaszembrzuski All cool. But you still have a point :)
@@johanaavit i play H&K Tubemeister 18 30'th anniversary head and it says in the manual to not put anything on top of it (also it's super hot when it works, ~45 celcius), and im looking to get Egnater Tweaker 15 head or Ibanez TSA15 head and they both have vents on top :)
Looks good but too many bell and whistles for simple running an amp via reactive load to DAW like I do. I think I will end up getting a Two Notes Captor, because it would not be paying for features I do not need. Plus I am still wary of Boss after I fell for getting a GT-10 years ago and it gave every patch a hint of of 80s Casio keyboard tone (I am still nostalgic about the analog chorus pedal I bought in 1986 though, so always have a soft spot for Boss. My first pedal. You never forget the first one).
Currently for me it's a Laney IRT Studio running silent recording mode via XLR to my interface and then adding plugins in DAW for IR, plate reverb and high pass EQ etc. It sounds really good for a quite wide range of lead tones especially, but the downside is the silent mode is restricted to 1 watt instead of the full 15 watts. That messes when the clean channel's headroom. That's why I am thinking Torpedo Captor. This new Boss unit got my attention because it is a reactive load, but also an interface and I am thinking of upgrading mine. Like I say though, lots of bells and whistles I would not use. A stripped down version that is just a reactive load and maybe/maybe not an interface with really good AD/DA and ASIO drivers would probably get me having a second look.
p.s. NZRS Matt H that now works on stuff for Boss product development. I see your paw prints all over this new device. It's an evolution of the stuff you did for a while with your Plexi and EVH rig obsession and told us about on the local NZ forum. If I am right about my hunch, then nice one mate. Randy was better btw ;)
Aquila Rossa I have the captor and it’s really great value for the money, perfect for homerecording. It would be even better if it had maybe two or three settings for the attenuation instead of one fixed, but that’s a minor thing. All in all it offers a lot for what, 250 bucks?
I also had the ITT studio for testing, it was pretty good, but as I prefer clean or mildly crunchy sounds, it wasn’t for me, I think it shines at distortion. It had like one (good) clean sound at level 5 or so...still a clever product.
I passed on the captor because of the attenuation limitations.
Wazhapped' To My Bank Account?_ 😶
Right, I want to buy The Friedman JJ Junior-20Watt-2 channel. It sounds versatile enough for me with my floor pedals- I can go direct or mic it. The Friedman is cheap(When it comes to a quality tube amp, with 2 channels. ) Now this at $1,300- That is about what the head costs. I get the need for a compressor etc. When does it end?-I feel, in all reality (Having worked in the concert biz for over 30 years, National and international artists) that it really boils down to composing songs people can relate to and sell. When we promoted the G3) maybe it was (G-4), there were 3-4 guitar Gods. None of them sold that many solo records or got much if any airplay, (When solo)-(Steve Vai, Al DeMeolia, Ingwaye? Malsteam? -I forget his name-He toured with a Throne to sit in for the meet and greets, to sign stuff-That is all I recall about him-What ever he called himself.) The venues we rented were Theatres which had about 4,000 seats. These shows sold O.K.- Steve Vai told me he was bothered most of his income was promoting Carvin and other gear manufactures. He was not making the kind of money, when he was hired gun playing Arenas.. These "Gods" were not selling any Merch-which is a critical source of income to any touring show. I managed the Sesame Street Live Tours- The merchandise is what made our income soar through the roof as well as fantastic ticket sales. We always went into percentage with the promoter. This is want dictates, if you are making money or NOT. These guys received the MINIMUM If I recall, the purchase price we paid them-These shows never went into bonus mode- to include, Talent, road crew, sound & lights etc was somewhere in the neighborhood of $30,000 -This was in the 90s, 3,000 tickets at 25.00= $75.000- This is the amount we needed to break even. The 30.000 Deposit(Band) PLUS expenses. Stagehands, facility rental, security, advertising -The list of expenses goes on forever.. Each show. Lets face facts Neil Young is not the best singer or guitar player in world and does not spend a fortune in wardrobe. He sells out arenas. Have you ever seen a Rig Run Down on Neil Young, or for any member of Crazy Horse? I have not. It does not mean they have lousy gear, nobody cares how he gets his "Tone")-I think I have said to much. Lets write some great music, people want to listen to, pay to see and hear on the radio. Then the gear comes FREE.
comes off as an ad filled w/ jargon. It seems like an attenuator, but this is so indirect I can't actually tell. Give a legitimate breakdown of what it does.
So basically this will turn my $4000 tube combo into a Modelling amp.. That makes sense. The OX box or a Rivera Rock Crusher are cheaper and have a proven track record. Hard to see this one replacing either of them.
People seem confused. As far it seems to me, this is Boss’ answer to the Ox box. I’m saving my money for the new Suhr PT15IR,,,that looks like the perfect solution
The ONE thing that has me thinking about this (or the Ox) is the room mic feature. Otherwise I have no use for most of these bells and whistles.
Attenuator? MV works better.
Audio interface? Already got one duh!
Effects? That's what my effects processor is for.
SS power amp? I don't bother with 15W patty cake amps LOL.
MIDI? Again, effects processor covers it.
The selectable impedance curves are a cool feature for sure, but this thing will probably retail for $1300-$1400. The new Suhr Reactive Load IR is a great example of a stripped down, high quality recording tool with the basics covered, and way less $. If you have the money, sure, but I think this will be a hard sell for even seasoned guitar players.
I'll bet you this is gonna make getting output tube distortion easier on the ears than your mastervolume. Also it's clever to add effects after your distorting output stage.
Yeah after watching the Andertons NAMM video, this is looking more appealing. Still, the tones I go for don't need a ton of power tube distortion, but a bit more couldn't hurt :)
Tom, I’m also uncertain exactly what this product does, but am sure I need one.
BOSS, for price why not provide support for a stereo amp or wet/dry output? Things that make me go hummmm?
wow!
Waza = expensive
God is speaking! Waaaazaaaaaaaaap
$20 PHASE INVERTER MASTER VOLUME and P L A Y E R T O U C H have made the most beautiful f'cking music you will EVER HEAR! SAVE YOUR $1,300!
But can I plug in my frontman 10g and melt someones face?
£1143! F*cking hell Boss, get your f*cking nut down! Great idea but at this price I guess this is going to be as popular as those over priced Waza craft amps!
Are the 16 reactive load options for matching cab when attenuating or for matching IR's?
UA OX killer ?
So if you have a stereo tube rig ....you need two of those... that's a lot of money !!!!
It might simpler to just buy a good tube preamp rack or stomp N hook it up with your A/I + a IR plugn
Hi Boss, why a mono fx loop? To me is just a no sense. Many of your best fx are stereo. So why you didn't give us the chance to use'em when we play without a cab? OK inside your software you have stereo fx but somebody, like me, has based its own sound on some particular stereo fx. Good product but lacks stereo fx loop.
