The Waza Tube Amp Expander has been an invaluable tool for me and I remember saying at the time a smaller, studio essentials versions would be a fantastic addition down the line - as the full fat version has a lot of live performance features that may not be necessary to those wishing to use it exclusively as a studio tool. This is exactly what I was envisioning, glad to see it now being offered as an option.
No doubt something like this could very well use a bit of extra explaining and would be well served with a review/demo from Colin. Right in his bailiwick.

@@bassyey It’s more than that. I have the original. It has a power amp so that low power lunch boxes can be played louder. But if it’s like the original it’s also a multi-effects unit and an audio interface.
My favorite time of year, when my feed is just full of people all giving the same demo of them basically soloing for 10 minutes for the same product using the same phrasing and all talking about how great it is.
Can’t wait to try one out. I was on the fence between the Suhr Reactive Load IR and captor X. The TAE seems to check all the boxes. Form factor is awesome too. It looks like it would fit nicely on top of my Hot Rod DeVille. I can’t wait to check one out!
Looks and sounds promising. Unless there turns out to be some serious issues with the unit, I will be dusting off the old Marshall and picking one up. 🤟
This has my full attention! Been on the fence between a Suhr RLiR and/or Captor X. The form factor and options of this are exactly what i am looking for. Will be patiently awaiting it's release! Thanks Boss!
Section “seemless attenuation” at 2:08 isn’t quite clear: - Is the attenuation continuous from 0db down to maximum attenuation, or in steps? - If steps, what are they in db? - What is the maximum attenuation value in db?
The reason why I went back to solid state was becuase I was frustrated with micing limitations for true tube amps. Some have options though not having a line or XLR out, small amps sounding "small" on stage - it was a deal breaker. I'm thinking about getting another tube amp, some little Blues Junior sized thing and having this problem solver.
hopefully this is updated from the tube amp expander big brother. I had that and sold it preferring my freyette power station. The boss computer interface seemed really wonky, the headphone out sounded crappy and I always felt it colored my tone when I wanted to just use it as a straight forward attenuator. this seems to rectify some of those hopefully
If I have an amp without an effects loop, this will give it an effects loop. If I have an amp that has an effects loop, I can use the amp's loop OR the Tube Expander's, correct? And I assume any effects added by the unit itself would be after the amp, correct? This thing solves a lot of problems.... Attenuation, effects loop, IRs, definitely worth a look.
@ youre absolutely right, but my rig and PC are in different rooms and my main practise tube amp just died, and im lazy…so i want to have this TAEC for my pc and my revv can be in the practise room with my actual cabs. Its a good point youre making, you really wouldnt want to use this with that, they probably wouldnt work together bc the Revv has a speaker sensor in the 4/8ohm output jack
I sometimes push a 16 ohm cab and sometimes a 8 ohm cab.. so on this would I just leave my amp on 8 ohm and just plug the output into either cabinet? And the tae just adapts?
Can you imagine if the Boss Waza Core had also power amp emulations so I could use my tube preamps like ADA MP-1 or Marshall JMP-1 preamp and go USB out for recording or to PA for live gig... ADA MP-1 + Power Amp emulation(s) + IRs + built in effects => USB or XLR(s) to the FOH.
Hello, thanks for the video, i got a quite dumb question but what means the fact that it's "only" 30 watts output ? i am thinking to switch from torpedo X to that, but 30w may be not enough for concert or reharsle ? Or am i mistaken ? i connect the Torpedo to the mix table that is connected to the FOH. Thanks a lot :)

strange. But if you are not running full throttle it should work normally I guess.. maybe there is something with resonance curve or so...I wound like to know more from Boss why..
I went to the manual to answer some more questions I had that were not immediately obvious from this video in case anyone is interested. The attenuator requires an 8 Ohm tap on your amp and can take a 100 Watts. You can run it without a cabinet if you want. The power amp is 30 Watts and will power any cab 4 Ohms and up. It looks like there is a desktop editor so that you don't need to buy the Bluetooth dongle but you need to install a USB driver. The unit is powered by a wall wart. Here is the part I'm not sure of. It seems like the amp is always fully loaded down and then re-amplified by the power amp in the unit which seems perfect for the studio but if you want to play live with a 100 Watt head at full power and just send an IR to front of house or to a laptop you are better off with another device.
You are correct, the Core model is focused more on Studio use and situations you don't need a loud stage speaker level. Its still pretty loud, but if you need to push big volume out of your cab, we recommend the original Waza Tube Amp Expander.
What is the logic behind that? A small unit would be perfect for live use - less options but smaller and lighter, so easier to transport, and a big unit would be better suited for studio use. You made it the other way around.
The Suhr is a brilliant device. Hard to beat and there is information in the web to be found that Bosses approach to a reactive load may do harm to your amp.
I always wondered if you could switch between cabs with different impedance ratings by using a cab switch after the TAE, since it uses a class D power amp. 🤔 All it says is "min. 4 ohms". That would be extremely useful. Also: feel free to implement a built-in cab switch to the next TAE generation. 🙂
Generally SS amps don't care about impedance so you can run the load at say 8 OHMs and into a 16 ohms cab, etc. I've already done this with the regular TAE with zero problems. I don't see why a switch would be necessary.
Can Boss publish guides on how to match the box to all amps? The guide in the box itself is extremely limited. For example what are the settings for a Mesa MarkV combo?
I own some loadbox, OX, boss Waza tube expander 100 w, the fryette, the reload by 2notes, a rivera and a Koch. The problem with these loadbox is, they are to big to heavy to transport. This one may be the one to travel with.
Have a Ironman II 100-watt attenuator (use with Hi-Watt DR-103) & UA SOLO/610 in recording studio. Can you tell me the pros & cons. With the WAZA Tube Amp Expander Core. Thanks!
The loop is particularly meant as an addition for vintage amps without any effects loop. Otherwise you would use the effects loop of the amp itself - which is also mono.
I know Boss can't make anything bigger than an SD-1 without getting a computer involved but there's a paradox here. The traditionalist, who would rather die than use a solid state amp (I'm sure Roland, who is reading this, would agree some solid state amps are exceptional), is being asked to mess with software. Now I just gotta swing by the music store and see if they have any plectrums.
