Best designed log splitter I've ever seen. Faster than any hydraulic. I'm very impressed with the rack & pinion actuation and return system. Looks like this can easily be adapted to run with a standalone gas engine.
This video was made when I was still in the process of building this log splitter, now it has guards on many of the areas that someone could get hurt on also has tables on it that help to keep you away from the from sticking your fingers in the wrong place
Hi' Love this splitter nice workmanship on the finished job. You said that you got the rack & pinion from super splett do they have a web site or number that they can be reached at.Thanks for any information you can provide. Chris
Great Build! How did you do the rack and pinion engagement lever? IF you have anything that you could share it would be great. The fly wheels? Was that off an old square baler?
The rack and Pinion was bought from the company super Splett I believe the guys name was Paul and he was more than willing to sell me any parts I wanted for this wood splitter but he would not warranty them so I bought the rack and pinion gear and also to bearings from him everything else I made myself
The hardest wood I've split his locus but the biggest stuff I don't know maybe 20 inches in diameter I know it would split bigger I just don't have anything bigger

Nice video and wood splitter. Where did you get your rack and pinion? I looked online awhile ago for them. Do you have video about building it?
all log splitters should be made like this, well done!

Good job, how about safety guards please?

Never mind... I went and looked at your other videos...If you have any drawings of the lever mechanism, that would be helpful as well.
great splitter , I hope you finished the job and installed safety guards and keep that baby away from machinery like this.
Do you recall how much the rack and pinion set cost?
Cool! Could the flywheel be hand cranked?
if you can generate about 25 horsepower it probably can be.
Nice job. I'd throw a plywood guard on it though. Thanks for sharing.
Man, you split your firewood small. I figure you must have a small woodstove. Or it's kindling.

would like to see some sketch of it!
Some safety shields over those spinning wheels, could lose a foot
that's not bad. whats the thickest thing you've split with it.

Nice, but watch out don't lose a finger, or a foot
