This makes it easy to cut a straight line around a round barrel such as a 55 gallon drum or water heater I use a small plasma cutter to do the cutting with

Beautiful job!!!
Dude very nice. Im making my own as well and I've always wondered if steel weight plates would work as flywheels. But i stupidly let a guy on youtube talk me out of it. Mine will ve a good bit more redneck but i ended up using the rear axle off a four wheeler. I put 2 identical sprockets side by side. The flywheels are car wheels with tires on and some rotors welded extra. I made the rack out of 1 1/4 x 3" channel and welded some 3/8 round bar welded on that fit perfect in the dips of the sprockets.
Man, you split your firewood small. I figure you must have a small woodstove. Or it's kindling.
You running the tractor off your gasifier? That’d be the ticket.
Some safety shields over those spinning wheels, could lose a foot
That, those, this? My gosh dude, sounds like my girlfriend trying to explain something mechanical.
Do you have specs or a source for the rack and pinion gear?
What did you use for the cutting drum on your chunker?
make a self feeding chunker table. put a stop inside the drum for desired length. keep hands away and save your back. otherwise a nice machine. i like it.
what did the flywheels come from?
I so wish I had something like this... I have about 8 million 2-3" trees to chunk and it takes an eternity with a saw.
Have you tried a bandsaw? I use mine for all my limbs that fall. Makes short work of it.
@@jiggity9572 I'm pretty far off the grid and the best I could probably manage is a battery powered miter saw, which definitely works but won't take me far with the immense volume of wood I have. A chipper or chunker that can make quick work (and a useful byproduct) is the only way. 🙂
Now, show me how to make those cuts straight lengthwise...
Easy piece of angle iron layed on the barrel, lays true to the barrel and guides the plasma cutter, that's how I did it during my gassifier build
Good job, how about safety guards please?
Nice unit but it would have been nice to more of the machine, seeing as it is called "My Project"
Супер!!!
That is an old style fire wood splitter. We had one when I was a boy eighty years ago only it was powered by a water wheel.
Q
You looking away with your hand still near the cutter was heart stopping, you are already too comfortable with that thing. You are also getting your hand WAY too close, you shaking your hand after letting a piece go tells you that as well. Put a trough up to the cutter, then use a "pusher" to get the pieces in. Better the pusher be chewed than your hand lopped off. You were driven enough to build it this far, go another step or two and keep your hand. Those things don't grow back... My fingertips never did after a catastrophic event....
are you burning that in a wood stove or making charcoal?
you should never lean through the stroke area of the cylinder, that valve can fail, or have debris caught in the seat, not good practice.
good thing to cut your hand off !
cool.....
That contraption works really well, but you *desperately* need a loading tube to keep your fingers away from that progressive slicer!
Best designed log splitter I've ever seen. Faster than any hydraulic. I'm very impressed with the rack & pinion actuation and return system. Looks like this can easily be adapted to run with a standalone gas engine.
Cool! Could the flywheel be hand cranked?
if you can generate about 25 horsepower it probably can be.
machine très dangereuse ne pas laisser dans les mains de n'importe qui
Man that is really dangerous. Don't try this at home folks lol.
I'm no fan of OSHA rules, but that machine is a serious ACCIDENT just waiting to happen.
interesting idea, if ad a 2' shoot out of 4x4 or 6x6 steel pipe it'll probably help keep your hand safer, less stress on your back also you'll push one piece with the other, if install in a 45 degree angle and 36-42" long it can probably feed itself for a few minutes while you reach for the bottle of water.
Good setup.
Redknecks don't need guards but bending over constantly to feed the chunker is just madness. My back's sore just watching. Can't you raise it a bit?
Lol dude I will have to dislike because of the lack of safety.
Une après midi de travail, avec cette machine et tu peux t'acheter de nouveau doigts !
Weld some angle on that tray so the logs won't roll off, and you can keep your hands out the way.
Brilliant Idea! I learned something here. TYVM
exactly what I was thinking of building without the cutter but direct drive from tractor. Have given me additional ideas. thanks for posting.
bye bye fingers
всеже лучше брать клещами
great splitter , I hope you finished the job and installed safety guards and keep that baby away from machinery like this.
does this mechanism have safety unlock if the log wouldn't be cracked?
Great Build! How did you do the rack and pinion engagement lever? IF you have anything that you could share it would be great. The fly wheels? Was that off an old square baler?
Never mind... I went and looked at your other videos...If you have any drawings of the lever mechanism, that would be helpful as well.
nice
how much for you to build me one lol
Obvious errors: 1.It is necessary to weld the 1/4 pipe on a bed cleaver 2.Turned 45 or 90 degrees to a shredder insert branches from top to bottom. Otherwise, all is well! :-))
Nice machine! munch munch munch munch munch munch...
Is the differential locked on the axle or does just the mass on each side keep both axles turning when shearing or splitting? Thanks
That's a DR Power log splitter.
+Kyle Bittle DR stole the design from SuperSplit
what is the reason for chunking the wood in Mn we just split it and burn it unless you are using it for a wood gsifier I sapose.
Hi' Love this splitter nice workmanship on the finished job. You said that you got the rack & pinion from super splett do they have a web site or number that they can be reached at.Thanks for any information you can provide. Chris
