My instructor started showing the class how to factor quadratics, when she came across this method she was practically flailing, she was so happy. You explained it very good. The only difference between my instructor and yourself is that she put the second term (xx) ,(this one) under the box instead of ontop of it and she also put the side term first and the bottom term second. However, following Associative property, the swapping around the brackets shouldn't make a difference. Thanks again!
I am so glad that I found this video. Thank you so much for uploading this video. You made it very simple, and you are very good at explaining it!! I have finals tomorrow keep repeating it so that I could remember it!!!!!
hahah remind me that comercial said: what?! Still looking for the video from 2008, are those really help? Me: hack yea, better than my teacher hahahahah.
Well you did post this a year ago so maybe you changed your mind in that time period, but not all questions will be this easy, sometimes the numbers will be very large and other times it won't even be 3 terms but 6 terms instead, so its not really pointless.
Ya I would like to know how to do reverse foil because my teacher said I should do it cuz I’m good with doing math in my head but she didn’t teach us it could u make a vid
@Swordsmen The 2nd term is the addition of two numbers that give the value 2 and the 3rd therm is the multiplication of the same two numbers you used for the the 2nd term and give the value 24. Example: x^2 - 9x + 20 = (x - 4) (x - 5)
This is the same exact thing as guessing - as another user already pointed out. Only difference is that instead of writing the terms next to each other they are written around a box. This is fine for small numbers, especially when the coefficient for a=1. However, when you get a coefficient for a>1 and a*c goes into the hundreds or thousands this method starts to look silly. You also have scenarios where there is a coefficient outside of the parenthesis of the factored equation for which I do not see a place in this box method. So far, the best method I have seen for factoring is by using primes (for larger numbers where a*c is in the hundreds or higher). Then writing the formula properly with all the terms next to each other and factor by grouping. Again, a coefficient of 1 in place of "a" is fine but for pre-cal and above I don't see the box method holding up. Either way, good intro video for beginners doing simple factoring problems.
Yeah this is not a guess and check at all... and you can very easily does this with a leading coefficient by multiplying the first and last term together and then finding the factors of that which add/subtract to the middle term. In all reality if you need to factor a polynomial with a large leading coefficient you would be using a computer program to help you such as wolframalpha..
My class has been doing a method that was dumb, and it made me sad. i didn't understand diamond problems because i was stupid and dumb, and probably ugly. thanks to this video, i'm smart, handsome, and basically the jesus of my class. thank you tube4horst.
Where did the coefficient x for -4 and 6 come from? Ive read other materials and tutorials regarding this method and no one seems to explain where these coefficients are coming from.
If the last number does not have any factors it shouldn't be a problem, as you are multiplying by the firsts coefficient to get the number you are factoring. The reason the last number (-24) was used in this video was because the coefficient of the first term was 1 (x). However, if the product of those two numbers is prime, than use Keith P's method.
i hate algebra
Who doesn’t
That awkward Bean Algebra isn’t that bad lmao it’s really fun when you know what you’re doing

You have honestly just taught me much better than my teacher. Thank you.
Thanks, I’ve been struggling with this all year you simplified it so easily👍👍👍
I am so glad that I found this video. Thank you so much for uploading this video. You made it very simple, and you are very good at explaining it!! I have finals tomorrow keep repeating it so that I could remember it!!!!!
Taught me in a hour and When my teacher better explained the box method. Thanks you
Hate algebra love this video
This was really helpful!
This method is much better for people like me who are visual learners. thank you
hahah remind me that comercial said: what?! Still looking for the video from 2008, are those really help?

So many of these videos are great, but I can't in good conscience show them on Virtual days because of the raunchy ads beforehand.
What about 3@8 2@12 1@24 can any these numbers work better to perform factorisation
This lady is Lowkey keeping me from failing math class right now
tf kind of box method is this? why did you put the first and second term in th-
you know what never mind...
thanks
My teacher sucks at teaching
Some teachers are full of knowledge but cannot transmit it.
Bahahaha!!! It works!!! Have a final in 2 hours! Thank you!
Ya I would like to know how to do reverse foil because my teacher said I should do it cuz I’m good with doing math in my head but she didn’t teach us it could u make a vid
Swordsmen the video is 9 years old...
@Swordsmen The 2nd term is the addition of two numbers that give the value 2 and the 3rd therm is the multiplication of the same two numbers you used for the the 2nd term and give the value 24. Example: x^2 - 9x + 20 = (x - 4) (x - 5)
The fist box is how ever many x-squares there are the last box has the number without any variables
24=6x4 and 6-4=2. Hence factors are(x+6)(x-4)=0. So x= 4 and - 6.
goat
Will these work with a polynomial with exponent of 3
Does it matter which factors you put in the box?
THANK YOU SO MUCH MY TEACHER SUCKS AND U TAUGHT ME MORE IN 3 MINUTES THAN SHE HAS IN 4 WEEKS I LOVE U
Thank you so much! This really cleared things up for me!

I don't understand how this is guessing though

In all reality if you need to factor a polynomial with a large leading coefficient you would be using a computer program to help you such as wolframalpha..
I use this every day in the precalculus class I teach specifically for factoring polynomials with a leading coefficient.
I hate the box method but being forced to learn it
Why am I the only one that doesn’t understand?
Stop looking at the comments and study
My class has been doing a method that was dumb, and it made me sad. i didn't understand diamond problems because i was stupid and dumb, and probably ugly. thanks to this video, i'm smart, handsome, and basically the jesus of my class. thank you tube4horst.
Mr.oof is taking no L’s TODAY
does anyone know what to do if b is being minused
@ruggeroization For real. People need math shortcuts??
i am in COMPLETE CONFUSION.
fuck algebra its giving me literal depression and anxiety
Doom 'em me too
Okay but what is a coefficient
damn u better than my teacher thanks b
better than my trig teacher lol
Yeah I still don’t get it 😢
That is the same thing as guessing...
Wht is the solution of this
X^2+2X-24=2X^^2-24
(X-4)(X+6)=
I hate maf. (angery)
Factors of 24 to give difference 2 are 6x4. Hence ans. is (x+6)(x-4). PSD.
Thanks for this video it really helped me alot. Thanks for explaining it properly because I cant understand my teacher. Thx again
very easy to learn tks
Thanks. My super genius Korean teacher thinks we learn these things from writing it down.
What if there are three different exponents ex. 4p 5p squared & 8p cubed
Totally gonna ace that test tomorrow!!!
Sorry, I don't. But I do remember it helping me immensely
Do you still have that test?
People must know
My teacher explained this method to us in Honors Algebra 2 at my high school. We barely heard of this in algebra 1 two years ago as a 7th grader
Thank you for making this 10 times easier because my math teacher explains it weird
omg thank you so much I didn’t understand this at all and this 3 minute video just saved me
THIS ISNT EVEN HAED WTF
Thanks I actually got the same equation on my homework, so free answer
Thank you so much ! This video taught me exactly what to do in only 3 minutes, thank you so much !
What grade level would this be for? I just showed it to my 10 year old and she got it right off - thank you for the lesson!
Box method trash
Thank you so much, I finally understand it!!
CORONATIME
Thanks for easy method👍👍👌👌👏👏
how tf is this bs
Thank you so much. 💗 definitely going to ace this test :)
this helped so much! Thank you!
But what happened to the queen’s golden Wii?
Thanks so much! Super helpful even in college! 😊
Excellent.
That was so simple. My teacher makes it complicated
Where did the coefficient x for -4 and 6 come from? Ive read other materials and tutorials regarding this method and no one seems to explain where these coefficients are coming from.
People usually leave it because it is really -4x and 6x but to find if it multiples to c and adds to b
*BOWS DOWN*
i love you.
School is prison. Need to get rid of "common core"
What if the last number is a number that that doesn't have any factors. Ex 11
You said "negative 2x" at the end when you needed to say positive 2x 3:07
@SeismicRock I didn't. I clicked a link on a webpage.
how does -4x6 = 2 i’m so confused
add -4 and 6 not multiply
-4+6=2
I didnt understand🤷🏻♂️💔
Good explanation thank u sir
thankyou now i think i finally freaking understand it
Best math video for box method
Its undefined and that would be your answer.
thank you! finally i’m taught
Best teacher ever 🤗 thanks for the help
👍👍👍👍👍
👏🏼👏🏼
thank you my dear love you you are the great
Thank you, very clear.
Do u have to use c to choose the factors and sum or can u use b as well?
gerald santos It has to be B.
thank you, thank you, thank you ladyyyyy!!!!!
thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Thanks I needed that recap
