As a GCSE student taking Edexcel Maths in 2023, I had no idea whatsoever how to solve it until you went through it. For me, it's just a matter of: understanding what is being asked; eliminating irrelevant information; and using your brain to figure out what to do. I feel Edexcel tries to put people off much more to separate the best of the best, as opposed to AQA in my experience. I am so happy I found this video. Subscribed.

The thing with breaking down is actually very good. I was completely lost in Geometry and I had a cycle and some angles inside the cycle and I thought very basic that the cycle is 360° and that was actually what I had to think about in order to solve the exercise. And at first I thought that it was complicated but they just made it seem like that.
I am trying my best to get 8/9 in all 7 subjects this may june session today is my maths b exam and I practiced a lot of past papers I hope I can do well thank you so much 💜.
@@Charlotte-hf5jz well I watched GCSE maths tutor and Maths genie videos of them going through a paper - that helped me with understanding the trickier questions. I find practice papers on single topics so that I can really get them right. Also asking my teacher for help with questions I don’t understand helps too, you can do it!!
I'm in year 9 and don't have a very good teacher. She skips a lot of steps because she thinks because we're in top set we know it. This is extremely helpful!
that question where u have to find c is actually so easy if u think about how squares all have equal sides. each side is just 8 so from 38,36 u go down 8 2 times and left 8 2 times, that leaves u with 22,20
Yup, that's basically what I said in the video! A lot of people found it hard though when the question first came out, even though it's quite simple when you think about it.
This question has nothing to do with equal sides it's all about 'amount' and paying close attention to those amounts ie, there are 4 sq, all with 8 line, there are 3 points of X pay attention to the (4/8/3) These three amounts/numbers can be used alone to answer the question as stated in my first reply IF you know how to chew on numbers 😁🤓
This was actually so helpful... I saw that question at the start of your video and I was like ?!?!?!?!? But then you said break it down and so when I saw that question again I understood what was going on; I feel like maths is a stigmatised subject in which if you don't get the question straight away you're just stupid and haven't revised enough. Plus I think wayyyy too much pressure is put on cramming answers to every type of question rather than actually trying to understand the technique of questions, so thank you!! God bless youuuu omds
These videos that you upload about getting grade 9s are extremely helpful so thank you so much because I am 2 months away from my mocks and watching your videos are actually helping me so thank you so so much. You don't know how much this is going to help.
Great video, Sola. Your comments and suggestions were all spot on and very useful. If I could add two tips, one pre-exam and another during the exam. Pre-exam- have a look at the Mark Scheme and Examiners' comments on the questions you struggled with. It will give you some insight as to where you may have gone wrong and the approach/es that they were expecting from candidates. The Examiners' report is sometimes quite revealing, as it is critical of what teachers haven't covered (very well). During the exam, especially in the later questions (grade 7-9 difficulty), don't despair. You can still score some 'method' marks or demonstrating the correct steps you've taken in tackling the question. So make sure you write out your steps clearly so that the marker (who's going through 100s of scripts) can credit your approach. Best of luck to your future career/s.
your channel is literally the best i cannot explain how much u have helped me you are an ICON and thank you. you literally deserve all happiness in life you absolute legend.

Practice is definitely one of the most important aspects of learning. Understanding fully is also important and understanding from first principles if you can.
Another tip is... Pick an area your uncomfortable with and only do that in small 10 mins blocks with 5 min breaks, don't do more than 5 blocks. Answer the questions and if weak at any, re-read just for those.
So stressful… I fear I’ve left this too late. I’ve been getting 4/5s and I need a 6 to get into and do my wanted A Level choices. I struggle with motivation yet I’ve been learning pretty well. Try to refocus your thoughts "I hate maths" is a good cop out, try changing it to a more positive message "I am not the best at maths but I try my best". Focus on the first half of the paper, try to get as many of these correct as you can - all if you can do it. Then ensure you show working so that you can pick up method marks as often as possible. Good luck
@@jonnybenitez1 I think you can still “hate maths” and be good at it and not loose your focus. Theirs nothing wrong with “not liking” something what’s bad is when you don’t like the subject so you completely ignore it and don’t even try and work hard for it.
My exam is literally in a month and I haven't begun revising yet, and I'm having so much anxiety about it because my family has really high expectations for me to score a level 9. I'm so screwed
For Maths especially, you have enough time. You really need to bang out past papers all the time and focus on your weakest points. Let all the stress and pressure go and just start, as hard as it sounds.
1. Figure out where you're losing marks and practice those areas. 2. Do as many practice questions as you can, everyday. (Corbettmaths) 3. Be familiar with all questions. 4. Use flashcards to practice weak topics, review formulae, etc. 5. Read the question twice to understand it. Underline keywords. 6. Double check your answers at each step of your work. 7. Triple check your answers at the end and ensure that they are realistic. 8. Skip difficult questions. Fold the paper and come back to the question(s) later, after answering the ones you can. 9. Try to answer all questions to maximise your marks. 10. Remember: you know how to solve the question. Try to remember the topic it cones from.
I’ve been getting a grade 2 for a while now, I just can’t wrap my head around maths and I don’t understand the subject. I’m in Year 13 now and this is my last examination, hopefully I’ll be able to do it.
@@roast.potatoes I am now second year of uni and never passed my exams, but my life didn’t stop because I couldn’t do maths. Sometimes it’s okay to fail, it makes you realise you’re better at other things, and sometimes those things make you happier

My teacher does not teach us shit in maths, I’m terrified for maths. Could you do a video on how to tackle the last few maths questions or a video on how to manage exam mind blank etc xxx
I have my Maths Mock tomorrow, I know it’s just a mock and not the real thing but I’m still stressing. My teacher has only covered around half of the content yet we’re still doing the higher test anyway, how are we supposed to get over a 5 if we haven’t covered the content. I’m going to try and use the tips you said and I hope I don’t forget them, good luck everyone who has mocks or any exams soon ❤💖
Hey! I love your videos so much! I wanted to ask if you could create a part 2 and go deeper into the exam technique for maths, revision websites and how often (how many hours per week) should one be doing maths revision to get a grade 9? Please could you use your grade before using this revision technique as some inspiration
Good video - I wished i know this before. When I was at school, I was in 2 minds weather to sit maths or not. In the end I did and got a U. I retook and got D / 3. Its still not a pass but its better than U
This was honestly so useful thank you so much! Is there anyway you could do science/language/history (if you took it) because you are so confident when it comes to exams and it’s so inspirational.
I’m predicted to have a high grade (7 - 9) but my teacher keeps saying to me that I make so many silly mistakes that keep me back from achieving the grade. So my general question is how do I prevent from making these silly mistakes, thanks for answering the question. :)
The only way you can get better at this is to keep doing as many questions as you can, then you will start to pick up on your mistakes and stop yourself from making them in the future. As well as this, always double check each step in your working out (especially if it's non-calculator) to see if everything is right.
concentrate on understanding the processes and the basics, try to get the first half of the papers fully correct and then get as many method marks as you can on the second half of the papers. Practice papers as often as you can between now and the exam date. Good luck

@@mygcsemaths i got a 6 in most recent mock, like two grades up from what I got before!!! :))) gcse maths tutor really helped
I love how you broke down that question- very well explained, thank you :)
girl youre a literal life saver 😭
You give me the hope thank you so much!!
Paper 3 TOMORROW! Im scared, but motivation is key... thanks Sola :)
You got this!
@@SmileWithSola You helped me so much! Thank you! I think I did great. As an America wanting to become an NBA Player (I'm in the UK currently though)
You're my UA-camr for Revision 🙏🙏
Never give up people. U can do this. Good luck for your GCSES and A levels
i cant thank you enough, you're literally amazing. Thank you so much!
Thank you for showing us including people 🎉👏🏻
Amazing video Sola!!
OMG the question you showed at the start of the video was LITERALLY the same question I did in a scholarship exam I took last week… I didn’t know it at the time…
its from a 2018 paper edexcel i think (know ive seen it before a few times)
this was so useful! thank you so much
Omg you’re literally a lifesaver thank you so much i hate maths and this was so helpful💗💗💗💗💗
@@gem832 Isn't that what I said?
My exam is literally in a month and I haven't begun revising yet, and I'm having so much anxiety about it because my family has really high expectations for me to score a level 9. I'm so screwed
For Maths especially, you have enough time. You really need to bang out past papers all the time and focus on your weakest points. Let all the stress and pressure go and just start, as hard as it sounds.
I just came from the guy who openly exposed how he cheated on his GCSE’S. love love love you
This video was just what I needed tysm!
This is very helpful.my teachers put me towards the higher paper and I don't have the confidence to do it but this really helps
thank god that i found your video on my recommendation tysmm u are helping me a lot
Great vid as usual!
Watching her vids just encouraged me,and watching oxford uni vids make me want to study harder although it gave some pressure lol
1. Figure out where you're losing marks and practice those areas.
2. Do as many practice questions as you can, everyday. (Corbettmaths)
You've got such good explaining skills
I’ve been getting a grade 2 for a while now, I just can’t wrap my head around maths and I don’t understand the subject. I’m in Year 13 now and this is my last examination, hopefully I’ll be able to do it.
Best of luck!
MY EXAM IS IN 6 DAYS 😭😭😭
@@pirate8535 how did it go?
@@roast.potatoes I am now second year of uni and never passed my exams, but my life didn’t stop because I couldn’t do maths. Sometimes it’s okay to fail, it makes you realise you’re better at other things, and sometimes those things make you happier
God bless you😭💙💙 im new to the british school system and i thought i was bad at maths untill i realised my problem was dealing with the question itself, not the math itself
Keep working hard even after writing exams.
I started GCSEs recently and whenever I don’t understand something in class, I teach it to myself through maths watch
absolutely brilliant video, thankyou.
Great breakdown! 👌🏾. Well done!
I saw my math teacher with a piece of graph paper yesterday. I think he must be plotting something.
LOL
Hey i just picked what im doing for GCSEs on friday and i have been spamming your videos your so helpful ❤❤❤❤
Hope it went well! Good luck with the revision ahead of your exams & feel free to let me know if you have any revision questions.
Gl to my fellow yr 11’s for tmrw, we will all do amazing
Its still not a pass but its better than U
practice everyday yeah cool my exam is tomorrow
Sola ur eyes are so pretty omg💖
Aww thank you!!
@@SmileWithSola Omg ofc bestie your videos help me so much and motivate me compared to other videos on UA-cam im so excited to watch yours💖
Hi, sola, can you just do a vid that talks about how to seperate your subjects like time plan on what subjects you want to do each day
This was honestly so useful thank you so much! Is there anyway you could do science/language/history (if you took it) because you are so confident when it comes to exams and it’s so inspirational.
Just uploaded one on science: ua-cam.com/video/NL7u7vZ4mnM/v-deo.html and history is coming soon!
@@SmileWithSola thank you soo much! About to check it out!!
Thank you so much for the tips!! ❤❤
I'm terrible at maths but I really want to pass but I'm below expected. Is there any tips to improve it
If you follow the tips in this video, you will definitely see an improvement!
concentrate on understanding the processes and the basics, try to get the first half of the papers fully correct and then get as many method marks as you can on the second half of the papers. Practice papers as often as you can between now and the exam date. Good luck
