3x4=12=1x12. Hence 1/3(3x-12)(3x+1)=(x-4)(3x+ 1)=0. Hence x=4 and x= - 1/3.

How does the box method work out 2x(squared) - 8x + 5. 5*2=10 and the factors of 10 are 1,10; 2,5 which when we add or minus in no way gives us -8.

I have a question I have a problem 2n^2 + 3n - 9? In the box I'm getting 2 and -3 which cant factor each other does that mean I did something wrong?
