my favorite fuel for the Kris X Berdly ship is the statue interaction dialogue. from "what part are they looking at?" to "it's a work of art. this statue seems to suck bad.", it just perfectly captures the dynamic between them.

i’m actually really interested in people’s takes on asgore and toriel, and specifically why people think their relationship never works. i personally see toriel as being just as at fault as asgore is, and honestly she could be more so in deltarune, we don’t know yet. toriel doesn’t seem to be able to handle people who express negative emotions/trauma/etc. in a way that she doesn’t know how to “fix”, and/or that are less socially acceptable. even if we just look at how she treats kris, with her seeing the way that they’re acting after being possessed by the player as a good thing when everyone else seems to notice that something is horribly wrong, because they’re acting more “normal” now. this could maybe be a stretch, but i wouldn’t be surprised if she handled asgore’s firing and specifically how he may have reacted to it poorly, just as much as he did. and even in undertale, you could definitely argue that they’re both at fault (which i do). i think there’s a lot more nuance to their relationship than toriel being Good Perfect Goat Mum which i really don’t think she is. like asgore, she’s a pretty grey character, which i hope gets explored more in canon. that aside, great video! very fun, i’m unfortunately totally with you on catty and bratty lmao.
I love this take actually because it seems that, at least in the past, Toriel has always gotten treated as sweet, lovable goat mom while Asgore got dragged for his understandably bad actions, but Toriel definitely deserves to get a good amount of pushback in both Undertale and Deltarune, and I hope this would get addressed in maybe the next chapter! (Also I think Dorked made a very good video about this as well as the Growthspurt comic in general)
Asgore and Toriel relationship is indeed interesting to analyse as there is also some mystery to it. In some way, we have information about their motives to separate but there is so much details missing about what each party did in Undertale (although Deltarune might explain more about their breaking point). I agree with you, and I think their relationship is that kind that its good, the one to endure until death pull them apart, but it require one bad incident for everything to break and for one partner to lose all faith in the other. Perhaps proper comunications of their worries and feelings could have help out their marrige, but since they didnt have it and Asgore seem to be sort of impulsive to his emotions while Toriel is more pragmatic...well, the marrige didnt work for them (specially Toriel).

Susie to me feels like she does have a crush on Noelle, but has no idea what a crush is because she's never even gotten close enough to a friend before. with her instantly "sparing" Noelle because she did something nice to her on their first day of school, Susie making the comment about the snow ring that it "smells like Noelle" and being too flustered to ask Noelle to hang out in real life sometime, she's totally feeling something for her.
I think that is kinda sad like she not feel aprecieted for nobody that she couldn't think that people could like her. Chapter 1 exposes this very well when Lancer finds her cool.
I get similar vibes with Susie and Ralsei. The way she bolted to be alone and hang out the carnival with Ralsei, and immediately went quiet when she saw him without his glasses. I think she's a little into both Ralsei and Noelle, and doesn't want to pick, hence the question at the end of the chapter 2. Just like "Yo dude, pick one of these for me so I can date the other one." Also, if the "Dess is Kris" thing is true, it has hilarious implications for that question, especially if the "Kris is crushing on Susie" theory is also canon. No wonder Kris was so confused by those answers: They just told their crush they were romantically interested in their not-brother or not-sister!

Kris x Noelle is SO JUICY though, especially if you bring the Player into it? Close childhood friends who drifted apart because of a Unspecified Tragic Accident, but they still consider each other the single person who ever understood who they are as a person? Noelle still being happy to see Kris even at the start of the game, and then Kris playing little jokes on her during Chapter 2 because they seem to want to be friends again? How Noelle scolds them playfully for the pranks and then calls them weird so fondly, and then plays along with some of them? Their shared mysterious past involving Dess? The pain of having both their families torn apart? That little story about the piano and Kris, the shared history there, how both of them feel melancholy and fondness for each other but they can’t seem to be friends again until Deltarune starts. Their bond is to the point that Noelle teases Kris about their closeness to Susie! She’s not jealous of them at all! And Kris fires back with trying to help Noelle and Susie get closer! And then Snowgrave. Dang. You have the Player as a third entity hurting Noelle and making Kris a witness and accomplice. And you know what? Noelle is the FIRST person who notices that it’s not Kris. Other people notice something’s off. But she realizes that it’s not them because as she says in the game, Kris is one of the only people who she’s not afraid to say no to… and this thing inside Kris’ body keeps making her say yes. She wants to investigate them, setting up a situation where *she’s* the one that’s going to save Kris. The dynamic is so fucking amazing.
As much as I love the dynamics I can't go with the ship because I'm pretty confident Noelle is lesbian. Like, I thought that was canon. But nobody is saying it so now I'm really just confused
@@forg0ttenmemory Her preferences have never been explicitly stated. She likes Susie, but that could make her lesbian, bisexual, or even straight with the one exception of liking Susie. So, as far as "hard canon" is concerned, romance has never been officially brought up. Only hinted at. And more importantly, this is about shipping, not about canon. People can (and frequently do) fall in love with ships that never end up being canon. I hope that clarifies the situation. x)

And the sheer depravity of the idea of a tranced-out Noelle and a puppeted Kris making out after defeating the knight/titans/final boss is also far too juicy to ignore. A situation so far removed from reality making the term "weird route" deserving of the name.
I think Queen x Spamton is the best Deltarune ship. Not in the sense that I think that they were dating/they will date, just that the concept of it is so STUPID its amazing. Like, just imagine this tall, hot robot lady dating a tiny little trash man. It gives me HUGE Jessica and Roger Rabbit vibes, its SO GOOD!

Kris x Berdly is absolutely my favorite because it's just so damn funny. Rivals who are also lovers is a great dynamic. Kris liking Berdly won't stop them from absolutely DESTROYING him in Smash Bros. It doesn't stop Berdly from being extremely annoying about having better grades than Kris. Berdly is the perfect Cring Fail boyfriend. But also, yeah, the DRAMA. Imagie being forced to watch your boyfriend get frozen to death. Imagine having to fight your partner to get them to stop bullying your best friend, only to watch said friend FREEZE YOU TO DEATH. The DRAMA.
Not that it matters, but Kris/Berdley are actually an MBTI golden couple (INTP/ENTJ). I guess that might explain why some people ship them. As characters, I don't think they have too much potential for an actual functional relationship, but of course, they do have a lot of potential for juicy drama.

Also yeah, I can't see Kerdly getting serious as a relationship, but I've never shipped for the sake of functional romance. The main reason for Jevmarxio (Jevil x Marx x Dimentio) is most likely the fact they are considered the "Chaos Trio" in minor parts of all 3 Fandoms. To the point where a massive Chanel even made a lyrical theme for them(the ultimate world spun ft. Marx). Another fun thing, is that this ship got me into Deltarune, because Dimentio is one of my favorite characters of all time.

Kris x Susie is probably one of my favourites just UGH I love their dynamic so much Susie only uses that super soft smile sprite with Kris, and they've went from (probably one-sided) hatred pre-game to being actual besties in TWO DAYS If they don't have romance going on then they'll at least be inseperable friends by chapter 7
I definitely prefer them just being best friends over romantic interests. They're just chill bros with each other and Kris really appreciates Susie for helping them and making them smile
I absolutely hope they become a thing, they just seem to really fit like a glove with each other. Two chaotic teens with broken families, I love it so much because Kris is the only person who actually knows and understands Susie. They like to mess with her head as much as they like to just joke around together, and they seem to really only like Susie over everyone else. Something that irked me about Noelle, it's that even though she saw first hand the awful things Susie said to Kris in their first talk, she still had a crush on Susie, in a kinda "I can fix her" kind of way. While Kris always seems unbothered, and even messes with Susie even then. Their crush seems to stem from actually knowing Susie, instead of just crushing on a fantasy/preconception of who Susie is. Preconception that Susie dislikes, because it leads her to being alone all the time.

Great explanation, and even if the game doesn’t confirm an actual relationship with Susie or Kris, I’d like to see Kris having an alone moment with Susie (possibly at the festival) at the end where they’re just chillin. Like on of those “game lets you decide if they get together or not” type of ending. Either way, it’d be nice to get something akin to this because Kris obviously prefers Susie over just about anyone and seems to be at the epicenter of their motivation. There’s also obvious implications that Susie started to warm up to Kris and wanted to be closer to them during the events of when she teamed with Lancer in chapter 1. We’ll see what happens tho, but definitely the most interesting character dynamic for me personally.

Kris stares intently at Susie while drinking it, and B. That they really like it. And when Susie asks about who they'd bring to the festival, Kris sounds confused about taking anyone but Susie.
Interesting way of viewing ships, personally what i think a good ship is is one where the characters are happy and its the least toxic relationship possible, i'm a very big fan of vanilla ships cause i don't want to see the characters suffer.

Yes, Rouxls would betray him in a heartbeat, but not in the angsty, tragic way, but over the slightest of things and that would be hilarious to watch. 54:19 about this one: I like the ideia of Kris and Noelle having a little friendly competion over Susie while she's unaware of it, and the best is that there's text lines to back it up if you twist it enough, like how Kris is the Susie Expert and you can badmouth Susie to Noelle in maybe a attempt of getting them away from each other(not friendly in the slightest or the best example but those dialogue lines don't make sense after the adventure they had after all). Summing up: _me likey._ Not the 3 of them together but this slice of life drama bs I like directly injected in my veins.
When you think about it... almost all main character could be quetly competing over Susie, while she's completely unaware of it. You could definitely add Berdly to that mix too. Ralsei tho... eeeh? i dunno, maybe??? I remember seeing this one short comic where Kris created "Susie fanclub" and it was just so good.
About it, Kris normally doesn't cooperate in certain player choices, but Kris happily says to Susie that they want to go with her, when he looks confused if you pick Noelle or Ralsei. Also, he can tell Noelle that they were doing stuff in the closet, and he only receives the max healing from her.

As someone who is both polyamorous and involved in a lot of polyam circles, Kris/Noelle/Susie is literally such a common relationship dynamic polyam circles. Two childhood friends who may have had tension but no one made any moves until a new person comes into their lives that they both have interest in, and that interest also brings them together. Also very surprised you mentioned the drama of Kris/Berdley but didn't mention the potential drama of Kris/Noelle. Also the fact that Kris likely had zero control over Snowgrave would mean that any unhealthy elements of that pairing can be waved away
I think that the Noelle and Berdly one would work in a particular context, if Susie gets interested in someone else and they do a fake relationship to try to make her jealous.

My defense for Kris x Catti is that they actually have some history together as friends, as judged by Catti's dialogue when talking to her in QC's Diner in Chapter 2, and just seem to be pretty chill towards each other, and I'm just not entirely seeing how them being together would be bad for both of them.

I remember finding Kris and Ralsei’s dynamic real cute back when only chapter one was out, with so many possible cute interactions (like Ralsei being the only one blushing when Kris stands near him, or the choice to keep hugging the dummy, or the choice to equip Ralsei with the ribbon you find instead of yourself and him cutely reacting to it). Chapter two also has similar interactions (Hugging Ralsei on the boat ride, which can lead to him hugging Kris back after the fight with Spamton, trying to equip him with the snowring where he asks you if you’re proposing), but it made me realise that Kris might not really reciprocate Ralsei’s feelings, wether they’re romantic or platonic. When Kris drinks the Ralsei tea it heals them significantly less that the Susie and Noelle tea, with Susie’s tea healing the most. It creates a rather questionable dynamic, with Ralsei trying his best to get Kris to like him while Kris is seemingly unimpressed. Also, after the fight with Spamton, Ralsei seems to invalidate Kris’ distress, saying they should just “not think about what happened too much” and “ think about something that makes them happy” while Susie demonstrates how one should react, by actually being worried about her friend. That’s why he thing, Ralsei doesn’t even seem worried about Kris. He only starts PRETENDING TO after he sees Susie caring a whole lot. So in the end we have a fluffy boy who tries his best to please Kris, but doesn’t actually care when they’re in distress. Two-faced. This actually sounds similar to how Rouxls bootlicks his leaders while always ready to turn on them, but is ultimately worse. Ultimately scarier. Also so much is yet unknown about Ralsei, about his true motives. Personally I find him VERY suspicious. Both in chapter one and especially in chapter two. ALSO what in the HECK did Ralsei say to Kris in both chapters while we “imagined” what Susie did. Certainly hope it wasn’t any threats. So yeah, personally for me the ship is in stomach pain category.
I agree that Kris definitely is at least uncomfortable with Ralsei's forwardness, I wouldn't say that Ralsei doesn't care for Kris' distress. More like he's not sure how to comfort them. You said it yourself, depending on how the boat ride goes, Ralsei will either try to distract Kris, or hug them, with Kris preferring Susie every time.
I always like to think that Deltarune is an animated romcome where its just the characters doing random crap. Kris being the silent protagonist who is wondering what is going on anymore, Susie being the friend who does crazy stuff with Kris, Ralsei being the supportive friend, and Noelle and Berdly being the secondary characters who are the fan favorites.
no way I didn't know about asgore demonitizes himself ending. Thanks Jaru for bringing up new lore basically every time I watch you, even if it's for the game from yee olden days.
There's actually two ways to get that ending. 1. Beat Photoshop Flowey with at least 1 kill but without having triggered genocide dialogue. Flowey promises he won't kill Asgore next time. Do a reset, get zero kills (but don't enter True Lab) then spare Asgore. 2. Kill Flowey after Photoshop Flowey fight (doesn't matter if you have kills and/or triggered/aborted geno). Then reload your save and spare Asgore. In either scenario, Asgore will now always off himself if spared in that file unless you do a true reset (or entered True Lab and are thus on Pacifist route in which case you don't technically "spare" him.)
I think mike x spamton is very much based on superstition and headcanons, mike is kind of the perfect mold to make an oc and ship him with spamton, in the sweepstakes made me very interested in their relationship though, maybe it was/is canon? Eh, I like the potential
For the Dess and Asriel ship, I completely agree. It sounds incredibly boring and I feel like what's more important to me is their relationship as friends/family. I also feel it kinda gives Mari and Hero vibes from Omori but with literally none of the emotional weight as we don't know anything about either.
You mentioning the parallels between Asgore and King, as well as Toriel and Queen has actually got me thinking. I wonder if these parallels are intentional or not? and if this will apply to main villains in future chapters. Asgore and King are both fatherly kings who take on terrible actions due to their trauma, and anger from being locked away, the difference being that Asgore is a benevolent ruler to his people who commits his actions reluctantly, and King has become a full on monster who doesn’t feel a shred of guilt for attacking you. | As for Toriel and Queen, they’re both coddling motherly figures who are known for being controlling, and who generally mean well but don’t exactly manifest their need to help in the best of ways. Their are a lot of ways that can be seen in which King and Queen either take attributes of Toriel and King to the extreme, or run counter to them entirely (Examples of the latter include Queen being a futuristic and energetic robot, while Toriel is a calm and worldly/ancient figure, and how King is a cruel and malevolent ruler to his people while Asgore is a kind and beloved one.) I do think that it’s very possible that Toby wrote these in intentionally, since it would fit the whole theme of Deltarune being a warped parallel to Undertale In fact, I think it’s possible that each main chapter villain in deltarune could parallel Undertale in some way. I think this mostly because of chapter 3’s obvious tv theming. It wouldn’t be a stretch to think that Mike (or whatever the villain will be called) will be a parallel to Mettaton in some way. Honestly, I hope the pattern of the antagonists in Deltarune being an exaggerated version of one of the Undertale antagonists is continued. I think it’s a cool idea to sort of twist and “flanderize” their traits for the Deltarune villains.
I have a massive Mike x Spamton brain rot 😔. I got way too happy when I saw that the page Mike was mentioned on the Spamton sweepstakes was the WEDDING RING page LMAO. There's also the thorn ring's wedding ring parallel, and that one of Spamton's attacks is literally a heart on a chain. Oh yeah, and the two chairs in Toriel's living room possibly represented thrones, one of which still being used (Mike/Toriel's) and the other possibly not being used at all (Asgore/Spamton's). And that the 2 sofa's in the Green Room parallel this. AND the general notion that chapter 3 might have something to do with relationships. Basically: HUGE divorce vibes It's pretty nice seeing it not ranked in F tier for once lol. Miketon is a very interesting ship, as it depends on what you think Mike is like, which varies from person to person

@@JaruJaruJ Yesss! I do love how you went into details for each ship and why some would and why others wouldn't work. While I love the idea of Asgore with Rudy or the fan portrayal of Asgore and Gaster, I think Asgore first would need to work on himself in order for a relationship to work properly (same for Toriel actually), they're very loving people, but have a fair share of stuff they need to work through first. I also think they need to take a good look at how they treat each other because I can imagine that the way they go about it right now would affect their kids.
@@JaruJaruJ Also for Rouxls and Diamond King, that pairing actually started as a fun little joke between Huecycles and me. ;) Diamond King doesn't have many lines but from what we get of him he has a similar silly personality. And Rouxls... Loves long dungeon walks. And what's in the dungeons? Well as far as we know only prisoners, so he'd likely love to talk to them. It became a pretty developed thing in our Metropolis AU, but outside of that it may be very confusing haha!

Susie having Noelle's smell memorized and blushing at pretty much half of their dialogue together has me highly doubting they won't be canon. You don't give an entire heart themed ferris wheel cutscene to just any two characters.
There's two big problems with their dynamic. The first of which is that it's literally Alphys and Undyne 2.0. Shy nerd x slightly dim battle hungry warrior Yada Yada Yada. I have too much respect for Toby as a writer than to believe he'd do the same exact thing twice, with the original ones still in the very same game. The second is the problem of Noelle. Her obsession with Susie easily creeps up to certain lines that shouldn't be crossed, and even does in a few places. The biggest of which being when Berdly now has a crush on Susie and she physically assaults him, leading to their swift capture by queen. And, depending on your run, Berdly losing the use of his arm. That is legitimate Yandere behavior. The writing I see on the wall is that Noelle's feelings about Susie will be revealed to be not quite as wholesome as they appear at a glance.
@@Kjf365 I feel like what you’re describing is a bit of an exaggeration. for one, The joke about Noelle attacking Berdly is never mentioned beyond that point, Berdly isn’t hurt and there seems to be no hard feelings between the two. Sure, Noelle had an overreaction, but it was a clearly harmless overreaction that was pretty much just meant to be a joke from a writing standpoint. (Also, it’s a common misconception that Noelle was strangling Berdly in that scene, when she actually just shaking him around by his torso.) Secondly, I don’t even remember if there’s anything that suggested that Queen found Berdly and Noelle specifically because of their interaction. The only dialogue about that from Queen just states that she intercepted them during their escape which could’ve been at any point between their interaction and when The Lancer Fan Club(tm) make it to the fountain. And even in the Berdly interaction I’d hesitate to call it obsessive and yandere-esque, and more-so just somewhat overzealous. (And none of this is even mentioning the fact that Noelle thinks she’s dreaming at this point) Other than that one point though, I completely agree that Toby seems to be setting up their relationship for failure. Just from how much the game seems to be pushing it, to it’s similarities to Alphys and Undyne. (A major part of Deltarune seems to be shattering the expectations that Undertale builds up, so it’s a definite possibility)
I like the teaser for Dess being Kris. I have been thinking the same since watching a video by D Muted. The video expresses the idea that the other person controlling Kris is most likely a female that sings Don’t Forget at the end of chapter 1. The theory that Kris has 2 forces that control/affect them from time to time makes a lot of sense, and if Dess’s soul somehow became connected to Kris, that could lead to some interesting plot points. This could also lead to the idea that if a lightner dies in the dark world, their soul is separated from their body and connects to something / someone nearby. In the weird route, maybe Berdly’s soul attaches to Noelle, which could also explain her attitude when she plays the video game with Rudy. Just a thought, really excited for your video Jaru!
The Kris/Susie/Noel poly ship is one I probably never would've thought of, but the moment I saw it it just made sense to me. I think I like that one the most out of any of the poly ships

I will say on Sans and Toriel, that one of Toriel’s flaws is how uptight and slightly controlling she is for “your own good” Sans being so relaxed in that regard definitely balances her out, similar to how Asgore may have, except Sans has better control of his emotions (as you mentioned)
No nonono Jaru, "unhinged" when describing Undyne is the correct term. As someone who relates to Undyne a lot primarily because my friends would always say "yeah, you're basically the same", I am not only fine with the "unhinged" title, I strongly encourage it.
I think you kinda glossed over the dramatic potential of a Normal Route Kris & Noelle. Kris and Noelle were friends as children, but started drifting apart likely due to Kris’s struggling family, and Dess going missing. They are both *flooded* with trauma. And what’s more, when the two start talking to eachother again, in chapter 2, *It Isn’t Kris causing it, it’s the Player.* There’s a lot to be played with there. Imagine Noelle finding out that a person she thought she was finally rekindling something with was actually possessed the whole time. And what of Kris, what do they think? Do they still want to be friends with Noelle? Do they just want to close off all relationships? Edit: Also, maybe this is just my personal bias + the fanon I’ve been exposed to, but Asriel and Dess could be really cute if you look at is in a similar way to Ellie and Karl from Up (Ellie is an adventurous, fun loving girl, and Karl is a bit on the shyer side.) Again, this may be partially due to the fanon I’ve been exposed to, but Dess loved Horror Movies, and carried around a whiffle bat (so much that Noelle calls it *her* Whiffle Bat) and Asriel is a shyer type kid, going off of Undertale, and using exclusively Deltarune, has been mentioned to cry about Kris being Mean to Yoshi.
I personally think Asgore and Alphys could work in a timeline where the two actually worked through their issues before dating but still having a few bumps in the road even while dating; They’re just better equipped to deal with them. My favorite ship based on canon material is definitely Soriel but that one is a hypothetical ship I love personally. That said, I have a bit of an odd pairing mixed with a little theory of mine. Catty (OG Catty, not her younger sister Catti) and Burgerpants. (Or I guess Pizzapants in Deltarune) Burgerpants has a ‘hot girlfriend’ in this timeline and honestly, I think it’d be both hilarious and kind of adorable if Catty was actually catfishing him as a prank but found herself slowly catching genuine feelings for the poor guy. She’d just be in too deep at that point. lol It wouldn’t enhance the overall narrative or anything, I mostly think it would be a funny and kind of cute aside you’d find during the Hometown visits at the end of each chapter.
This was really fun! I like seeing what people think of "crack" ships because of their absurdity alongside plausible ones. I'm not really a shipper, and only care when the characters have good chemistry canonically. For that reason, I really like the idea of Kris/Susie, Ralsei/Susie, and Toriel/Sans.
QC and Toriel is an unexpected but really cute idea... but I am admittedly biased in favor of sapphic stuff and like both of these characters a lot. I think Ralsei would remind Kris too much of their brother for them to be comfortable with it regardless of what Ralsei's origin ends up being. Kris doesn't get Berdley killed - YOU do. The player does. Not Kris.

Jevil x Seam is still my favorite Deltarune ship, there’s this beautiful tragedy to it, with of course knowing the fate of Jevil and Seam having to lock his partner up, it’s cute to imagine their past together but sad when you know how it all ends

My main issue with Jevil x Marx x Dimentio is that, IIRC, Dimentio is still a villain by the end of Super Paper Mario. Marx is shown to have been reformed because of Kirby's kindness, hence why he's playable in Star Allies, and Jevil is, quite frankly, mentally insane, but he still chooses to help the heroes after his defeat. Dimentio was the twist villain who managed to corrupt Mario's own brother in his plot to destroy the world, stealing the spotlight from Count Bleck (who became a villain to spend time with his beloved Timpani/Tippi again).

I have no clue why (maybe I was brainwashed by the fanart), but Pink and Spamton make me happy. Because I've had spamton attached to my brain stem for a while now and because of how tragic a character he is, having a person that he can lean on and he has history with (the extent of the history might not be well known, but they were at least friends before spamtons downfall) tickles my brain and just makes me feel better. Weirdly enough I find Alphys & Asgore's potential relationship interesting because how similar they are. Admittedly I don't actively ship them, I usually don't ship characters in general unless there's heavy hints of potential romantic feelings in the narrative. Regardless I find that relationship fascinating. Also on Alphys more of an Undertale Ship, but I also think their potential history with W.D Gaster is interesting. Admittedly Dr. Gaster is an enigma of character, though because of their shared interest in science, I think it is interesting to ponder. At the very least it gives Gaster a canon personality to bounce off of outside of Sans & Papyrus. I would imagine the way Alphys views W.D Gaster is similar to that of Asgore with a similar amount of hero worship due to DR. Gaster's accomplishment, yet there's an actual basis on what the two can talk about.

The reason that Kris x Ralsei is weird is that Kris very clearly does NOT like Ralsei, or at least doesn't want this Kind of intimacy with him. All of the cute ineractions between the two are controlled by the player, while the few actual reactions of Kris (like f.e. the tea) show that they aren't too fond of him.

i’m actually really interested in people’s takes on asgore and toriel, and specifically why people think their relationship never works. i personally see toriel as being just as at fault as asgore is, and honestly she could be more so in deltarune, we don’t know yet.
toriel doesn’t seem to be able to handle people who express negative emotions/trauma/etc. in a way that she doesn’t know how to “fix”, and/or that are less socially acceptable. even if we just look at how she treats kris, with her seeing the way that they’re acting after being possessed by the player as a good thing when everyone else seems to notice that something is horribly wrong, because they’re acting more “normal” now. this could maybe be a stretch, but i wouldn’t be surprised if she handled asgore’s firing and specifically how he may have reacted to it poorly, just as much as he did. and even in undertale, you could definitely argue that they’re both at fault (which i do). i think there’s a lot more nuance to their relationship than toriel being Good Perfect Goat Mum which i really don’t think she is. like asgore, she’s a pretty grey character, which i hope gets explored more in canon.

I love this take actually because it seems that, at least in the past, Toriel has always gotten treated as sweet, lovable goat mom while Asgore got dragged for his understandably bad actions, but Toriel definitely deserves to get a good amount of pushback in both Undertale and Deltarune, and I hope this would get addressed in maybe the next chapter!

Asgore and Toriel relationship is indeed interesting to analyse as there is also some mystery to it. In some way, we have information about their motives to separate but there is so much details missing about what each party did in Undertale (although Deltarune might explain more about their breaking point).
I agree with you, and I think their relationship is that kind that its good, the one to endure until death pull them apart, but it require one bad incident for everything to break and for one partner to lose all faith in the other. Perhaps proper comunications of their worries and feelings could have help out their marrige, but since they didnt have it and Asgore seem to be sort of impulsive to his emotions while Toriel is more pragmatic...well, the marrige didnt work for them (specially Toriel).

I get similar vibes with Susie and Ralsei. The way she bolted to be alone and hang out the carnival with Ralsei, and immediately went quiet when she saw him without his glasses. I think she's a little into both Ralsei and Noelle, and doesn't want to pick, hence the question at the end of the chapter 2. Just like "Yo dude, pick one of these for me so I can date the other one."
Also, if the "Dess is Kris" thing is true, it has hilarious implications for that question, especially if the "Kris is crushing on Susie" theory is also canon. No wonder Kris was so confused by those answers: They just told their crush they were romantically interested in their not-brother or not-sister!

Kris x Noelle is SO JUICY though, especially if you bring the Player into it? Close childhood friends who drifted apart because of a Unspecified Tragic Accident, but they still consider each other the single person who ever understood who they are as a person? Noelle still being happy to see Kris even at the start of the game, and then Kris playing little jokes on her during Chapter 2 because they seem to want to be friends again? How Noelle scolds them playfully for the pranks and then calls them weird so fondly, and then plays along with some of them? Their shared mysterious past involving Dess? The pain of having both their families torn apart? That little story about the piano and Kris, the shared history there, how both of them feel melancholy and fondness for each other but they can’t seem to be friends again until Deltarune starts.
Their bond is to the point that Noelle teases Kris about their closeness to Susie! She’s not jealous of them at all! And Kris fires back with trying to help Noelle and Susie get closer!
And then Snowgrave. Dang. You have the Player as a third entity hurting Noelle and making Kris a witness and accomplice. And you know what? Noelle is the FIRST person who notices that it’s not Kris. Other people notice something’s off. But she realizes that it’s not them because as she says in the game, Kris is one of the only people who she’s not afraid to say no to… and this thing inside Kris’ body keeps making her say yes. She wants to investigate them, setting up a situation where *she’s* the one that’s going to save Kris. The dynamic is so fucking amazing.

I think Queen x Spamton is the best Deltarune ship. Not in the sense that I think that they were dating/they will date, just that the concept of it is so STUPID its amazing. Kris x Berdly is absolutely my favorite because it's just so damn funny. Rivals who are also lovers is a great dynamic. Kris liking Berdly won't stop them from absolutely DESTROYING him in Smash Bros. It doesn't stop Berdly from being extremely annoying about having better grades than Kris. Berdly is the perfect Cring Fail boyfriend.
But also, yeah, the DRAMA. Imagie being forced to watch your boyfriend get frozen to death. Imagine having to fight your partner to get them to stop bullying your best friend, only to watch said friend FREEZE YOU TO DEATH. The DRAMA.

The main reason for Jevmarxio (Jevil x Marx x Dimentio) is most likely the fact they are considered the "Chaos Trio" in minor parts of all 3 Fandoms. Another fun thing, is that this ship got me into Deltarune, because Dimentio is one of my favorite characters of all time.

Something that irked me about Noelle, it's that even though she saw first hand the awful things Susie said to Kris in their first talk, she still had a crush on Susie, in a kinda "I can fix her" kind of way. While Kris always seems unbothered, and even messes with Susie even then. Their crush seems to stem from actually knowing Susie, instead of just crushing on a fantasy/preconception of who Susie is.

Like on of those “game lets you decide if they get together or not” type of ending. Either way, it’d be nice to get something akin to this because Kris obviously prefers Susie over just about anyone and seems to be at the epicenter of their motivation. There’s also obvious implications that Susie started to warm up to Kris and wanted to be closer to them during the events of when she teamed with Lancer in chapter 1.
We’ll see what happens tho, but definitely the most interesting character dynamic for me personally.

As someone who is both polyamorous and involved in a lot of polyam circles, Kris/Noelle/Susie is literally such a common relationship dynamic polyam circles. Two childhood friends who may have had tension but no one made any moves until a new person comes into their lives that they both have interest in, and that interest also brings them together.
Also very surprised you mentioned the drama of Kris/Berdley but didn't mention the potential drama of Kris/Noelle. Also the fact that Kris likely had zero control over Snowgrave would mean that any unhealthy elements of that pairing can be waved away
I think that the Noelle and Berdly one would work in a particular context, if Susie gets interested in someone else and they do a fake relationship to try to make her jealous.

My defense for Kris x Catti is that they actually have some history together as friends, as judged by Catti's dialogue when talking to her in QC's Diner in Chapter 2, and just seem to be pretty chill towards each other, and I'm just not entirely seeing how them being together would be bad for both of them.

time for undertale to start
I remember finding Kris and Ralsei’s dynamic real cute back when only chapter one was out, with so many possible cute interactions (like Ralsei being the only one blushing when Kris stands near him, or the choice to keep hugging the dummy, or the choice to equip Ralsei with the ribbon you find instead of yourself and him cutely reacting to it). Chapter two also has similar interactions (Hugging Ralsei on the boat ride, which can lead to him hugging Kris back after the fight with Spamton, trying to equip him with the snowring where he asks you if you’re proposing), but it made me realise that Kris might not really reciprocate Ralsei’s feelings, wether they’re romantic or platonic. When Kris drinks the Ralsei tea it heals them significantly less that the Susie and Noelle tea, with Susie’s tea healing the most. It creates a rather questionable dynamic, with Ralsei trying his best to get Kris to like him while Kris is seemingly unimpressed. Also, after the fight with Spamton, Ralsei seems to invalidate Kris’ distress, saying they should just “not think about what happened too much” and “ think about something that makes them happy” while Susie demonstrates how one should react, by actually being worried about her friend. That’s why he thing, Ralsei doesn’t even seem worried about Kris. He only starts PRETENDING TO after he sees Susie caring a whole lot.
So in the end we have a fluffy boy who tries his best to please Kris, but doesn’t actually care when they’re in distress. Two-faced. This actually sounds similar to how Rouxls bootlicks his leaders while always ready to turn on them, but is ultimately worse. Ultimately scarier.
Also so much is yet unknown about Ralsei, about his true motives. Personally I find him VERY suspicious. Both in chapter one and especially in chapter two.
ALSO what in the HECK did Ralsei say to Kris in both chapters while we “imagined” what Susie did. Certainly hope it wasn’t any threats.
So yeah, personally for me the ship is in stomach pain category.
I agree that Kris definitely is at least uncomfortable with Ralsei's forwardness, I wouldn't say that Ralsei doesn't care for Kris' distress. More like he's not sure how to comfort them. You said it yourself, depending on how the boat ride goes, Ralsei will either try to distract Kris, or hug them, with Kris preferring Susie every time.
I think is because of the duality of kris and the player. Kris dont like ralsei as much the player like.

I always like to think that Deltarune is an animated romcome where its just the characters doing random crap. Kris being the silent protagonist who is wondering what is going on anymore, Susie being the friend who does crazy stuff with Kris, Ralsei being the supportive friend, and Noelle and Berdly being the secondary characters who are the fan favorites.

There's actually two ways to get that ending.
1. Beat Photoshop Flowey with at least 1 kill but without having triggered genocide dialogue. Flowey promises he won't kill Asgore next time. Do a reset, get zero kills (but don't enter True Lab) then spare Asgore.
2. Kill Flowey after Photoshop Flowey fight (doesn't matter if you have kills and/or triggered/aborted geno). Then reload your save and spare Asgore.
In either scenario, Asgore will now always off himself if spared in that file unless you do a true reset (or entered True Lab and are thus on Pacifist route in which case you don't technically "spare" him.)
I think mike x spamton is very much based on superstition and headcanons, mike is kind of the perfect mold to make an oc and ship him with spamton, in the sweepstakes made me very interested in their relationship though, maybe it was/is canon? Eh, I like the potential

For the Dess and Asriel ship, I completely agree. It sounds incredibly boring and I feel like what's more important to me is their relationship as friends/family. I also feel it kinda gives Mari and Hero vibes from Omori but with literally none of the emotional weight as we don't know anything about either.
You mentioning the parallels between Asgore and King, as well as Toriel and Queen has actually got me thinking. I wonder if these parallels are intentional or not? and if this will apply to main villains in future chapters.
Asgore and King are both fatherly kings who take on terrible actions due to their trauma, and anger from being locked away, the difference being that Asgore is a benevolent ruler to his people who commits his actions reluctantly, and King has become a full on monster who doesn’t feel a shred of guilt for attacking you. | As for Toriel and Queen, they’re both coddling motherly figures who are known for being controlling, and who generally mean well but don’t exactly manifest their need to help in the best of ways.
Their are a lot of ways that can be seen in which King and Queen either take attributes of Toriel and King to the extreme, or run counter to them entirely (Examples of the latter include Queen being a futuristic and energetic robot, while Toriel is a calm and worldly/ancient figure, and how King is a cruel and malevolent ruler to his people while Asgore is a kind and beloved one.)
I do think that it’s very possible that Toby wrote these in intentionally, since it would fit the whole theme of Deltarune being a warped parallel to Undertale
In fact, I think it’s possible that each main chapter villain in deltarune could parallel Undertale in some way. I think this mostly because of chapter 3’s obvious tv theming. It wouldn’t be a stretch to think that Mike (or whatever the villain will be called) will be a parallel to Mettaton in some way.
Honestly, I hope the pattern of the antagonists in Deltarune being an exaggerated version of one of the Undertale antagonists is continued. I think it’s a cool idea to sort of twist and “flanderize” their traits for the Deltarune villains.

There's also the thorn ring's wedding ring parallel, and that one of Spamton's attacks is literally a heart on a chain. Oh yeah, and the two chairs in Toriel's living room possibly represented thrones, one of which still being used (Mike/Toriel's) and the other possibly not being used at all (Asgore/Spamton's). And that the 2 sofa's in the Green Room parallel this. AND the general notion that chapter 3 might have something to do with relationships. Basically: HUGE divorce vibes

While I love the idea of Asgore with Rudy or the fan portrayal of Asgore and Gaster, I think Asgore first would need to work on himself in order for a relationship to work properly (same for Toriel actually), they're very loving people, but have a fair share of stuff they need to work through first. I also think they need to take a good look at how they treat each other because I can imagine that the way they go about it right now would affect their kids.

It became a pretty developed thing in our Metropolis AU, but outside of that it may be very confusing haha!

Susie having Noelle's smell memorized and blushing at pretty much half of their dialogue together has me highly doubting they won't be canon. You don't give an entire heart themed ferris wheel cutscene to just any two characters.
There's two big problems with their dynamic. The first of which is that it's literally Alphys and Undyne 2.0. Shy nerd x slightly dim battle hungry warrior Yada Yada Yada. I have too much respect for Toby as a writer than to believe he'd do the same exact thing twice, with the original ones still in the very same game.
The second is the problem of Noelle. Her obsession with Susie easily creeps up to certain lines that shouldn't be crossed, and even does in a few places. The biggest of which being when Berdly now has a crush on Susie and she physically assaults him, leading to their swift capture by queen. And, depending on your run, Berdly losing the use of his arm. That is legitimate Yandere behavior. The writing I see on the wall is that Noelle's feelings about Susie will be revealed to be not quite as wholesome as they appear at a glance.
@@Kjf365 I feel like what you’re describing is a bit of an exaggeration. for one, The joke about Noelle attacking Berdly is never mentioned beyond that point, Berdly isn’t hurt and there seems to be no hard feelings between the two. Sure, Noelle had an overreaction, but it was a clearly harmless overreaction that was pretty much just meant to be a joke from a writing standpoint. (Also, it’s a common misconception that Noelle was strangling Berdly in that scene, when she actually just shaking him around by his torso.)
Secondly, I don’t even remember if there’s anything that suggested that Queen found Berdly and Noelle specifically because of their interaction. The only dialogue about that from Queen just states that she intercepted them during their escape which could’ve been at any point between their interaction and when The Lancer Fan Club(tm) make it to the fountain. (Also even if Noelle did accidentally alert their presence to Queen in that moment, Berdly frying his arm in the Queen battle is completely unrelated to Noelle and only happens due to Berdly’s overconfidence in removing the wire)
And other than that one gag, there’s nothing to suggest an obsession other than Noelle just generally thinking about Susie a lot, which isn’t too abnormal of teen crushes. And even in the Berdly interaction I’d hesitate to call it obsessive and yandere-esque, and more-so just somewhat overzealous. (And none of this is even mentioning the fact that Noelle thinks she’s dreaming at this point)
Other than that one point though, I completely agree that Toby seems to be setting up their relationship for failure. Just from how much the game seems to be pushing it, to it’s similarities to Alphys and Undyne. (A major part of Deltarune seems to be shattering the expectations that Undertale builds up, so it’s a definite possibility)

I like the teaser for Dess being Kris. I have been thinking the same since watching a video by D Muted. The video expresses the idea that the other person controlling Kris is most likely a female that sings Don’t Forget at the end of chapter 1. The theory that Kris has 2 forces that control/affect them from time to time makes a lot of sense, and if Dess’s soul somehow became connected to Kris, that could lead to some interesting plot points.
This could also lead to the idea that if a lightner dies in the dark world, their soul is separated from their body and connects to something / someone nearby. Honestly I was rather wary coming into this, as I am a prolific shipper who's *well* aware that shipping doesn't really have a good reputation.

I will say on Sans and Toriel, that one of Toriel’s flaws is how uptight and slightly controlling she is for “your own good” Sans being so relaxed in that regard definitely balances her out, similar to how Asgore may have, except Sans has better control of his emotions (as you mentioned)
No nonono Jaru, "unhinged" when describing Undyne is the correct term. As someone who relates to Undyne a lot primarily because my friends would always say "yeah, you're basically the same", I am not only fine with the "unhinged" title, I strongly encourage it.

I think you kinda glossed over the dramatic potential of a Normal Route Kris & Noelle.
Kris and Noelle were friends as children, but started drifting apart likely due to Kris’s struggling family, and Dess going missing. They are both *flooded* with trauma.
And what’s more, when the two start talking to eachother again, in chapter 2, *It Isn’t Kris causing it, it’s the Player.*
There’s a lot to be played with there. Imagine Noelle finding out that a person she thought she was finally rekindling something with was actually possessed the whole time. And what of Kris, what do they think? Do they still want to be friends with Noelle? Do they just want to close off all relationships?
Edit: Also, maybe this is just my personal bias + the fanon I’ve been exposed to, but Asriel and Dess could be really cute if you look at is in a similar way to Ellie and Karl from Up (Ellie is an adventurous, fun loving girl, and Karl is a bit on the shyer side.)
Again, this may be partially due to the fanon I’ve been exposed to, but Dess loved Horror Movies, and carried around a whiffle bat (so much that Noelle calls it *her* Whiffle Bat) and Asriel is a shyer type kid, going off of Undertale, and using exclusively Deltarune, has been mentioned to cry about Kris being Mean to Yoshi.

I personally think Asgore and Alphys could work in a timeline where the two actually worked through their issues before dating but still having a few bumps in the road even while dating; They’re just better equipped to deal with them. My favorite ship based on canon material is definitely Soriel but that one is a hypothetical ship I love personally.
That said, I have a bit of an odd pairing mixed with a little theory of mine. Catty (OG Catty, not her younger sister Catti) and Burgerpants. (Or I guess Pizzapants in Deltarune) Burgerpants has a ‘hot girlfriend’ in this timeline and honestly, I think it’d be both hilarious and kind of adorable if Catty was actually catfishing him as a prank but found herself slowly catching genuine feelings for the poor guy. She’d just be in too deep at that point. lol
It wouldn’t enhance the overall narrative or anything, I mostly think it would be a funny and kind of cute aside you’d find during the Hometown visits at the end of each chapter.
This was really fun! I like seeing what people think of "crack" ships because of their absurdity alongside plausible ones. I'm not really a shipper, and only care when the characters have good chemistry canonically. For that reason, I really like the idea of Kris/Susie, Ralsei/Susie, and Toriel/Sans.

QC and Toriel is an unexpected but really cute idea... but I am admittedly biased in favor of sapphic stuff and like both of these characters a lot.
I think Ralsei would remind Kris too much of their brother for them to be comfortable with it regardless of what Ralsei's origin ends up being.

Jevil x Seam is still my favorite Deltarune ship, there’s this beautiful tragedy to it, with of course knowing the fate of Jevil and Seam having to lock his partner up, it’s cute to imagine their past together but sad when you know how it all ends

My main issue with Jevil x Marx x Dimentio is that, IIRC, Dimentio is still a villain by the end of Super Paper Mario. Marx is shown to have been reformed because of Kirby's kindness, hence why he's playable in Star Allies, and Jevil is, quite frankly, mentally insane, but he still chooses to help the heroes after his defeat. Dimentio was the twist villain who managed to corrupt Mario's own brother in his plot to destroy the world, stealing the spotlight from Count Bleck (who became a villain to spend time with his beloved Timpani/Tippi again).
@Luca Ganz Dimentio's idea of a "perfect" new world was one where he was a tyrannical self-centered ruler who controlled everything.

I feel like it rewards toriel far too much as well as hurting asgore, when they were both partially at fault for the divorce. They both need to work on themselves and having sans in the middle of two divorced people seems like a punishment to him and asgore.
I think that King and Queen could work, mostly because I imagined them ruling together and Queen has a spray bottle for when King does something evil.
I have no clue why (maybe I was brainwashed by the fanart), but Pink and Spamton make me happy. Because I've had spamton attached to my brain stem for a while now and because of how tragic a character he is, having a person that he can lean on and he has history with (the extent of the history might not be well known, but they were at least friends before spamtons downfall) tickles my brain and just makes me feel better. I don't know why the pink Addison was the one that most people latched onto, me included (maybe it's cause he looks the most fruity lmao), but I just like it. Completely understandable for you to be neutral about it, this is just my reasoning. In general, this video was a wild ride lmao

Weirdly enough I find Alphys & Asgore's potential relationship interesting because how similar they are. Admittedly I don't actively ship them, I usually don't ship characters in general unless there's heavy hints of potential romantic feelings in the narrative. Regardless I find that relationship fascinating.
Also on Alphys more of an Undertale Ship, but I also think their potential history with W.D Gaster is interesting. Admittedly Dr. Gaster is an enigma of character, though because of their shared interest in science, I think it is interesting to ponder. At the very least it gives Gaster a canon personality to bounce off of outside of Sans & Papyrus. I would imagine the way Alphys views W.D Gaster is similar to that of Asgore with a similar amount of hero worship due to DR. Gaster's accomplishment, yet there's an actual basis on what the two can talk about.

When they got to QC x Toriel I legit went "who?" but once I realized who QC was and started thinking about it...I kinda ship it ngl. Didn't the Dreemurrs go to the diner all the time in Deltarune? Since they were regulars...Toriel and QC probably interacted a lot...and I doubt Toriel stopped going all together after the divorce, even if it were less frequent...
I'm not invested in Spamton and Jevil as a couple, but I am extremely invested in them as being divorced from each other. It never ceases to amuse me.

The reason that Kris x Ralsei is weird is that Kris very clearly does NOT like Ralsei, or at least doesn't want this Kind of intimacy with him. All of the cute ineractions between the two are controlled by the player, while the few actual reactions of Kris (like f.e. the tea) show that they aren't too fond of him.
There’s also the fact that Ralsei is uncomfortably similar looking to Asriel (not to mention Ralsei is an anagram for Asriel) who is Kris’s brother, like bro it would be a bit concerning if they were interested in someone who looked like their sibling
