    Fresh blades are always worth the price and effort. Cleaner cuts = faster regrowth, less diesel burnt, less strain on machinery.

    Tom I replace the knives every cutting. I run John Deere mowers and the knives cost $2.68 each. So fourteen knives equals $37.52 for mowing 150 acres. So that is $.25 per acre. I read a research paper that the Iowa university did and dull knives require 14% more horse power. So I would think that the cost of the knives would be paid by using less fuel . Plus less strain on the equipment.

    I’ll be honest Tom the farm shop and milkshake machine is ace especially the raspberry and white chocolate flavour ❤
    However it’s a shame there isn’t more to do as once you’ve been on the little path outside you have to come away then whereas it would be lovely to be able to buy a nice coffee for the family and sit and admire the animals can’t you create something like that Tom for your fans and farm shop visitors 🙏

    That’s some mighty fine looking grass for 3rd cut…it is 3rd cut, it’s it? Does this mean we’ve a chopping video soon. Love me a chopping/clamp video. And with the maize being harvested, there’ll (hopefully) be a clamping vid there too. Lots of good stuff to come.

    Docks, bracken fern, plantago and knotweed thrive on acidic soil. So I'd say you need to add cal to the fields with docks to raise the PH.

    The mowing when stalling out might be due to 2nd growth and the grass folding over so like a carpet. I found this on a few late hay fields. I had to cut low to get underneath and go slow or it would loose revs and die out.
    Iv done my last lot of mowing today. Glad to get it done as 2023 been a pain with weather and constant breakdowns. But that’s part of farming. We love it for some mad reason 😂. Keep the good vids going and your normal crazy self 😂.

    Thanks for the video Tom. The Farm Shop is really neat we have nothing like it where I live. When I was a kid we had a place called “Living History Farms” it was several hundred acres of land divided up by time. Meaning you started the toor on a farm from the 1500’s went to one in the 1700’s 1800’s all the way up to the Farm of the Future. Great fun as a kid to see the animals and see how the people lived on all the different farms. And…YES make the farm shop bigger and make it a place the schools bring city kids. I was in high school and my friend didn’t know how big a cow was cause he’d never seen one that wasn’t on a milk carton. He guessed they where the size of a small dog. Gonna milk a dog? Hhahahaha BeWell and StaySafe on the Farm!! ✌️💚🖖

    Don't worry Tom ... trying to cut the grass too fast just choked the mower .. In the 1980's I had a set of blades made out of stainless steel in a local sheet metal works. At the time it cost a small fortune, 20 years later we were still using the same blades.

    I haven't seen the full video yet so i don't know if anything is said about it but if the field is'nt dry, tedding doesn't help that much to dry the grass because everything that touches the ground stays wet so it would probably dry more if you dont ted it, as long as the field itself is wet anyways. But as i said, in the video i am still in the mowing part so i don't know yet what you do🙈

    Hi Tom great video as ever.
    Mower problems! Obviously heavy crop and due to mower on the outside when you turn the corner it’s speed is a lot faster than the forward speed you set the tractor at. Due to being wet and heavy this is why the mower struggled. Change down on the corner coupe gears. Keep up the good work 👍🏻💪🏻

    Docks is a signal theat the ph of the soil is no longer good. and can be remedied by sprinkling lime. so that the pH settles down and the docks will come back less or not at all

    • @Roosmarijn035
      @Roosmarijn035 7 місяців тому

      Yes, you can tell many things of the soil condition by weeds that grow. Here we don't have many docks, thankfully (they thrive on acid soil), but we do have bracken fern so I am working on adding cal to raise the ph. The internet doesn't give many solutions for combatting them, except for herbicides. Glyphosate destroys them but so it does everything else.

    Love this channel ! I must admit however, that although as an American, I speak English, I still have a hard time understanding what is being said! Nonetheless, I get 80% of it and keep coming back for more! It’s actually quite exciting to see a young man working hard and improving an old generational farmstead! Keep it going Tom! My only advice is to consider the pitfalls of the cost of easy credit based on projected earnings, to acquire the best equipment. In my teenage years, a local farmer went all in for a barn full of state of the art equipment, and just a year or so later it was all sold off in auction as well as the farm. Don’t know the whole story, but you can be sure that purchase had a part in it!
