I play drums in a band. I ride my motorcycle across the countryside. I swim lengths at the local pool. My dog insists on a walk every night after dinner through the woods, I complain at his persistence, but I am grateful for the time in nature, watching a big dog enjoy the highlight of his day. My advice for anyone feeling a little forlorn is always, get a hobby
I knit EVERY DAY. For 50+ years. I have a job, I and my hub raised 3 beautiful daughters each of whom have beautiful wool garments with fiber that passed through my hands.
That is so cool! I too love knitting and crocheting but I haven't done it for many, many years now. I used to spin my own wool too. Still, it's something I consider a survival skill, and I'm grateful to know it.
Having a wildlife photography as a hobby is really the best. You get to be in nature, you get tired after hours of walking in the woods and you learn animal, bird behavior... Wonderful!
I've got several hobbies, one of which is salvaging and restoring vintage Norwegian bicycles, classics that people often dispose of in recycling stations, i fish them out of the dumpster, bring them home, some end up as parts bikes. One of my main motivations for doing this is that they represent an important part of Norwegian industrial and cultural history that needs protecting.
Glad to hear that you live outside of CANZUK & CUNA where you'd be required to have the appropriate licences as either a mechanic or as a mechanical engineer in order to do that.
what do you do in a hospital? my brother is in hospitall for 2 weeks and he has no indoor hobbies he can do in the evenings, he doesn't like reading, crafts or puzzles
For me it has been a wonderfully slippery slope. I made dandelion wine for my elderly neighbour this Spring and am now completely unable to walk past anything without whipping out a demijohn....even the green tomatoes fell victim to my obsession. I think I am addicted, and don't even drink often. I do wish I'd picked up this hobby far earlier in life!
My hobbies are sewing, knitting, embroidery, tapestry, cooking, gardening, card making, bobbin lace making, stuffed toys, pyrography. I make all my own jams, marmalade, cook from scratch every day, make all my curtains and cushion covers, clothes and I even knit my own dishcloths. My Husband and I have just decorated our kitchen and he's 77 and I'm 80 in January. Mind you this will be the last time... too old now🤣😂
You're my hero! I long for the day I don't have to work & can actually get back to my hobbies. 🥰 I enjoy many of the same things you do. I think we were far better off when we cooked our food from scratch & made many of our own things. 🥣🧵🪡
I can't help but notice how beautiful your suroundings are. The water is absolutley still, the trees casting a mirror image on the river. To me , that, is paradise my brother.
Great video. I totally agree with you. I think a lot of people (here in the States) don't have a lot going on in thier lives, and have found some sort of feeling of importance by latching on to a group to complain about what the current thing to complain about is.
I've always had hobbies, and have always been relatively content. That said, moving to the woods and being outside every single day in real nature has changed my entire life AND perspective. Now instead of just being content I'm fulfilled.
I live in the Netherlands and have a lot of hobby's, mountainbiking, fishing and be in nature every day.I dont have social media for all my 38 years in live. You are so right about this! Stay free!
How I long to live back in Norway again Bjorn. The mountains, the fjords, the nature and the people I knew. I will always remember with fondness, my time spent living there. With old age creeping on, my walks are not so long and adventurous anymore, but I still explore my local woods when I can. Fond memories are always with me, and as an Englishman, there will always be a little piece of Norway in my soul.
I have my books, chickens, walks in nature and fire watching as hobbies. To name a few. I can't do anything about the leadership of this world, but I can control me and thats it . I control my happiness to the best of my abilities. Stay healthy and happy
I work fulltime and I have a hobby...crocheting. my hands are busy and my mind is focused on what I am making. It relaxes me. I am also getting back into camping. Sitting by the fire in the am with that first cup of coffee listening to the woods wake up is soothing to the soul.
I agree on having hobbies. I have several....backyard chickens, sewing, knitting, crocheting, tapping trees and making maple syrup, woodworking, and beekeeping(which I really enjoy plus it does provide a little extra income). I've made 90% of my bee equipment and I'm a 73 y/o grandma😉. And "no" I'm not freaking out about the election. I've been smiling constantly since Nov. 5!
Hello kindred spirit 👋 I also keep chickens and knit and crochet, I don't have a motorcycle or bees though😂 ...just a bicycle and I have a lot of 'pet' slugs in my veggie garden 🙄🙃😂🤣😂 Greetings from Wales UK 🏴

Well said. One needs a hobby to rest mind and spirit. Freaking out over politics seems to indicate a stagnant mental state. The refreshment of natural world relieves conflicting negativity..Thank you for sharing. My hobby is my garden...herbs, flowers and unusual foliage...
When the pandemic hit, we all hunkered down and like many of us, I went stir crazy. I grew up riding motorcycles, some off-road but mostly on-road riding. This time around, I decided to pursue the vintage two-stroke motorcycle hobby. I've owned up to seven, but now I have five of them. The sound, smell and power keeps me coming back. Sharing this hobby with others has been a natural way of staying connected and sane. But don't tell Greta.
Recently retired and just turned 63. Bikepacking, cycling, Fitness, composing original music and recording. I do enjoy watching sports and music documentaries. I also have an aspiring youtube channel, recently monetized and a long ways to go on that. Thank you Bjorn, you are an inspiration.
I thought that the Norwegians were a bit more sensible than that. It's remarkable how crazy so many people have become simply because of the American election. Your advice with regards to hobbies and being outdoors is on the mark.
I live in Norway, I work in a grocery store so I see the newspapers every day. It's insane how much reporting there is on the US election. You can easily forget that you're in Norway, and not in a Norwegian-speaking American colony. The newspapers all year and last year were all Trump Kamala Putin Trump Trump Putin Trump Kamala Putin (and of course Biden before he hopped off). I've lived here for five years and seriously don't know any Norwegian politician and have no clue what's happening in Norway. It's all about the US and Ukraine/Russia.
@@Aethuviel I live in the central United States, and was hoping for Kamala and Tim, so I am worried about what Trump's insanity and that of his minions will do, but I am not locked on to news and I know we'll all be better off if we look for ways, like hobbies, to keep us personally happy. We should worry only about things we can do something about. Not much a 77 year old like me can do about our warped, misguided government!🙂
I enjoy everything concerning nature. I love being out in nature. I go hiking in the woods with my dog. I love watching and feeding birds. I like to crochet, it is very relaxing. Social media can be addictive, but I do like watching certain youtubers and feel like they are my friends. Where you are at is beautiful! 😊
People spend too much time living their lives vacariously. Who cares who won? It is what it is. LIVE your LIFE. I garden year round (nice to see things bloom in the dead of winter), I dye my own yarn, make my own soap & knit. I love to be out in nature- it's what inspires me. Thanks for this, Bjorn!
Lol it matters greatly who won. It decides what direction your country and the world will go in. If your life will be easier or harder going forward. These people make the rules of the game you play everyday. Would hope the last 5 years would've taught people that. Trump, or whoever the american president is could literally prevent ww3, or a nuclear war. But yes people, me included get a little too into it, as once its done, it is what it is. As always the middle way is the right way.
@CommoditySC That's what I mean. In the end, the outcome is the outcome &, we live with it. There's not much we can do. So, I trust that the Universe will lead us down the right path...we really ARE the most dangerous species on this earth. I pray nightly that calmer, cooler heads prevail & that we have people that lead us all down the right path, which would one day result in Universal love & peace for all.
@@kimerickson1353 Unfortunately, we are the most dangerous species on the planet, and that sole fact is why we are at the top. The universe, and earth, (nature) relies on conflict and death to evolve. Universal love and peace isnt in the cards in this plane of existence. Every animal, every plant is competing through the success cycle of evolution. Trees, shading out competing plants to gain survival, animals killing over territory, bacteria invading other animals to feed off their existence. Its the way of the world.
The desire or drive for a certain hobby/interest certainly waxes and wanes. When sorrow intervenes it demands attention. This does not mean the hobbie is less. It's just that we then dwell on sorrow for as long as we need to. I lost a loved one nearly three years ago in a very tragic situation. I don't think I will ever get fully over it. But at first I thought I couldn't go on. This doesn't mean I was suicidal. It's just that purpose in life vanished in the devastation and in the attempt to grapple with what had happened. It can take years. Whatever it takes to reemerge, changed as we become.
my brother is in hospital for 2 weeks, a heallth rehab thing, and he has no indoor hobbies, not even reading or puzzles. I don't know how he will cope with nothing to do
I think for men it's valuable to have a hobby which creates something as a result. Like woodworking, welding, videography, photography, painting, sewing, cooking or even knitting. Especially if you do not create anything valuable at work (or you do not value the products of your work).
I got my Ham licence 9 years ago, it is a wonderfull hobby, I speak to fellow Ham's around the world. I even take my radio with me when I go camping in the mountains.
Picking up art as a hobby has honestly been the best thing I could’ve done for myself. I feel so much happier learning and practicing something I love.
Totally agree, Bjorn. If this gets that much under your skin, you need to find a life. At 61, i work full time and cooking is relaxing for me. Also things i can do with my hands like basket making.
Being a prepper helps. Remind yourself, all you can do is pray for the best but prepare for the worst. And always take time to escape the artificial life of technology, just be one with nature...it's a sure path to happiness, thanks BJORN....⚔👣
I weave baskets and rugs. Been making market baskets for 30 years. From strapping from freight. And I love cutting and stacking wood. Keeping this old woman moving. I have said for decades I don't care what a person does for a living. I do care how they spend their free time...
As a Swiss person, I can say: Please preserve your natural environment. ❤ We have stunning nature here, but far too many people-it often feels like one big suburb.
Yes, I just came in from outdoors…. Getting some air and sun. I purposely pursue hobbies to save my sanity. 😂 I paint landscape, crochet, puzzle, draw, read….to name a few. In the summer months I’m outside gardening, and everything outside…because I love being out.
My problem is : I have too many hobbies that I don't have enough time to do all of them. Fishing, rowing, swimming, badminton, playing guitar, sewing, knitting, quilting, crocheting, reading, learning languages, hiking, biking, cooking, making soap and candles.....the list goes on. I think having this many hobbies can become overwhelming and stressful
I have 3 rescue horses and just purchased a registered Paint Horse colt. My horses and dogs and work take my time and energy. Love my animals so very much!
Exactly this! thank you Bjorn for the wisdom you share here! A lot of people are too focused on the things which they cannot change anyway and they stress too much about it amd it consumes them until exhaustion. One of the top prioroties for me is cultivating my hobbies. It makes me happy and then I can make others happy and live in harmony and peace. It also brings me so much needed mental rest. Hobbies are like meditation, you only focus on that and stay in the present moment. It is like breathing, very essential for us to thrive and feel alive. I try to live in harmony with nature and spread love and care about my family and friends. And I really believe, and hope, that by following these values of mine, I make the world a better place, no matter what happens out there. My hobbies are shoemaking and leathercraft, knitting (thisnone is quite new, so I am learning), reading fantasy novels...I hope people will get inspired by your video and start to do more things they love and less doomscrolling ❤
Thanks for the very enjoyable video Bjorn. Sailing, playing with the dogs, heavy duty sewing, working on my old trucks, playing with the dogs, scuba diving, flying for fun got too expensive but it’s fun to share stories about it, playing with the dogs, going to the beach…
but you need indoor hobbies too, my brother is in hospital for 2 whole weeks he he has no indoor hobbies and his room is very basic. he will go mad with no hobbies in the evenings after he he has done his health rehab
I personally think one of the greatest things about living in this day and age is the vast amount of topics to learn about, activities to try, and places to explore.
Very inspiring. My hobbies include praying, meditating, reading out loud, exercising split up between going to the gym on some days and other days doing my boxing workout at home, baking, cooking, public speaking, improv classes, video games, going for bike rides and car rides, progressing in bjj, tv and internet browsing ect. So productive hobbies mixed in with less productive ones, haha. But all of it together does make me happy. And I plan on taking up new hobbies and developing new skills.
I love taking care of horses. It’s the healthiest lifestyle I’ve had in 65 years.. mentally, physically and spiritually. Living in class B van eight years. “ nothing evolves in a comfort zone“
Same here. You can probably tell from my username what my latest project is/was. Through this hobby I have bought and learned to use machine tools, sheet metalwork, engine tuning among many other things. It's a great relief from depression too
Vegetable gardening, reading, making wooden furniture, fishing, canning, fermenting, organizing my home inventory, candle making, rendering beef tallow. I’m a licensed therapist and I CONSTANTLY tell my patients they have to create action that is fulfilling to help their mental health. There is no magic pill that will get you there.
Thank you for this. I took up learning traditional Irish music on the tin whistle and get together with other musicians 1-2 a week to play. Such an awesome sense of camaraderie and music itself transcends this world.
Sketching and then some more sketching! And learning Norwegian!!! If I’m bored ever, it’s usually because I’m unwell (mercifully rarely). Hobbies are happy diversions from the day’s troubles and strifes. Thank you for your down to earth, calm chats. ❤
EVERYTHING you said about hobbies in your video is spot on! My hobbies got me through my late wife's battle with and eventual death from renal disease. My hobbies got me through COVID especially the lockdown here in my state of [......]. I just turned off the TV and went to work on my collections. When I go to stamp conventions, I practice my other hobby, photography. When my wife was alive, she said, affectionately, that I had too many hobbies and even called the stamp collecting a disease! But, she always knew where to find me, in my room, working on a collection. Thanks for this video. I hope people learn from it. Again, your advice is spot on! Cheers.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be here if not for my rediscovered hobby. I was in a pretty dark place when I picked up mountaing biking and it changed my life.

Gardening, herbal remedies, canning & other food preservation, cooking & baking from scratch, reading, learning new things, lake life…too many to list!
I migrated to Norway in 2012. I had a few hobbies, running, games, and collecting. During the pandemic, those hobbies stopped, and those few years were dark. Depression started and literally on the edge. Recently hopped on my hobbies and i felt better.
In Northern Ireland my hobbies are woodworking, motorcycling and looking after the animals on my smallholding , I’m 61 years young but feel having a active life will keep me alive 😉👍
Greetings from Northumberland! Couldn't agree more. Practicing martial arts and being in the outdoors are definitely hobbies that keep me grounded. I have never cared much about politics or social media. I see many friends, family and colleagues who appear online constantly and always say they're too busy to get together or go exploring. It's a real shame.
Metal detecting is one of my hobbies. Spending the day in the beautiful Engish countryside with friends on a quest, makes me very happy. Playing guitar and composing music and playing DnD with old friends once a week is also a joy for the soul.
Gardening, reading, cooking/baking, and choir. Our small choir is evenly divided, politically. We never discuss politics. We are great friends and love each other. I've been there 30 years.
Agreed.......I am so grateful I grew up in the 60's when we only had one tv and less than a dozen channels. With 3 siblings I didn't get much time to sit and stare at a screen, I was always busy playing with toys and friends, mostly outside. I have a very hard time sitting and watching a screen for any length of time with something to occupy my hands, usually knitting. I love yarn and knitting, crochet, cooking, sewing and nature, long walks. It saddens me that we have gotten to a point in society that we all sit on our own screens and there is very little communication, Friday movie night where we walked to the video store and chose a movie and watched it all together is long gone. I know many younger people who rarely leave their homes and are on screens when they aren't working or at school. So many can't carry on a conversation......Enjoy that grilled cheese!
I work as a pharmacist and I hate it, after being ripped off by a motorcycle mechanic I decided to do my own motorcycle maintenance, so fixing motorcycles is now my hobby. The funny thing is that I started to love my job as a pharmacist after that.

Sad to say, my fathers hobby was drinking. Me? I have too many hobbies. Used to be like you as a younger man. Then, I became old and have disabilities. So these are my hobbies now. Garden, small orchard, chickens, rabbits, greenhouse. Plus cooking, preserving food, meats, making wine, ciders, and more. In fact, I will be installing (myself) a solar generator for the well. Can't be in the woods anymore, but I'm happier than a pig in mud right now.

I read that as drinking 2 gallons of hard cider 😂
How hard is it?
@@HomemakerDaze it is a great hobby 😂
About 7.57 L 😮.
Mind you this will be the last time... too old now🤣😂
Excellent! I mistakenly read your first line as Sexting!
❤❤
You're my hero! I long for the day I don't have to work & can actually get back to my hobbies. 🥰 I enjoy many of the same things you do.
I think we were far better off when we cooked our food from scratch & made many of our own things. 🥣🧵🪡
This is the best thing I have ever heard in reasent years! Congrats you crazy lads!
That's not a hobby.
@mudshrooze Exactly
Stay free!
I just found out I'm 3% from the Netherlands through a ancestry test hehe love outdoor hobbies!
I must ask, how are you mountain biking in Holland? 😃

Fishing, walking, reading, watercolor painting , bird watching , gardening
I have my books, chickens, walks in nature and fire watching as hobbies. To name a few. I can't do anything about the leadership of this world, but I can control me and thats it . I control my happiness to the best of my abilities. Stay healthy and happy
I work fulltime and I have a hobby...crocheting. my hands are busy and my mind is focused on what I am making. It relaxes me. I am also getting back into camping. Sitting by the fire in the am with that first cup of coffee listening to the woods wake up is soothing to the soul.
Busy hands are happy hands.
I forgot-riding my motorcycle😜
@jeanirwin9539 That’s all awesome! I'm smiling, too! My horses are my hobby. I still work full time and my job takes alot of my time, also.
Hello kindred spirit 👋
I also keep chickens and knit and crochet, I don't have a motorcycle or bees though😂
...just a bicycle and I have a lot of 'pet' slugs in my veggie garden 🙄🙃😂🤣😂

But don't tell Greta.
a lot of men don't have any indoor hobbies, my brother is in hospital for 2 weeks and the room is very basic. He has no hobbies.
Let's not worry and be happy
Exactly.
Wise words Bjorn. As usual, many thanks.
I’m walking round the coast of Britain. It’s my hobby and I love it. ❤
@@Aethuviel Same in Japan! It's nuts and deeply weird
@@Aethuviel sadly, similar in Denmark. I blame social media as well as the mainstream media.
I have a friend that dyes her own yarn and makes she sells at a local craft show.
Sound was fine. So was the advice.
My hobby used to be playing the piano. After much sorrow, I lost the desire. Enjoy your hobbies Bjorn.
I would think playing the piano would ease sorrow.a
@rashone2879 if only you knew everything that has happened. 🤲🕊️
I so love playing the Piano and lose my self completely
Express and Integrate your sorrow through your piano
Gardening, walking, chickens, anything and everything that gets me outside.
my brother is in hospital for 2 weeks, a heallth rehab thing, and he has no indoor hobbies, not even reading or puzzles. I don't know how he will cope with nothing to do
I’ve already said this, hobbies save lives,👌🔥🌲👏
I think for men it's valuable to have a hobby which creates something as a result. Like woodworking, welding, videography, photography, painting, sewing, cooking or even knitting.
Especially if you do not create anything valuable at work (or you do not value the products of your work).
I got my Ham licence 9 years ago, it is a wonderfull hobby, I speak to fellow Ham's around the world. I even take my radio with me when I go camping in the mountains.
Totally agree. 73
The sound was clear and crisp Bjorn, no worries. 😊
Picking up art as a hobby has honestly been the best thing I could’ve done for myself. I feel so much happier learning and practicing something I love.
brilliant
Totally agree, Bjorn. If this gets that much under your skin, you need to find a life. At 61, i work full time and cooking is relaxing for me. Also things i can do with my hands like basket making.
Both are excellent activities.
Well my advice is to start with the dishes
I have the same problem, I'm trying to reduce some of them so I can spend more quality time on the others.
haha you sound like me, I have adhd but I love the variety of hobbies
You just gotta pick one and see a project through, then swap

Sailing, playing with the dogs, heavy duty sewing, working on my old trucks, playing with the dogs, scuba diving, flying for fun got too expensive but it’s fun to share stories about it, playing with the dogs, going to the beach…
Yes, I absolutely agree! I live in the USA and my hobby is my horses. My horses don't worry about any politics, at all. It's wonderful! 🤗🐴❤️
but you need indoor hobbies too, my brother is in hospital for 2 whole weeks he he has no indoor hobbies and his room is very basic. he will go mad with no hobbies in the evenings after he he has done his health rehab

Cheers.

Yes Sir, we need balance with being indoors and outdoors, It's important to mental health
