Good vid and thanks for the shoutout 🫡. RE: EGO, IMO top players use their ego to help them get over losses / ranked anxiety. If you truly believe you are better than your rank or you have potential to be one of the best, then it’s extra motivation to keep playing to show results / your true rank
Definitely a good point as an inverse to damaging your ego, use it as a motivating factor… don’t know how I didn’t realize to mention that considering the blue lock in the video lmaooo
If you make the goal to get better instead of winning/ranking up, losses are not only much easier to handle they become a vital opportunity to check where you can improve. If the goal is to increase skill, ranking up will happen organically over time. I always remind myself, “you’re not good at this game, but you’re getting better”. It works for me.
2:20: this is why I gave up on SFV. I was ONLY having 'fun' (in ranked) when I won. And by 'fun' it was just this wave of RELIEF. If I win it's ok, if I lose I hate everything. Not a good way to play video games.

I'm a returning fighting game player(2003 was the last time I was active in the genre), got hooked with SF6 2 months ago and trained using classic controls and getting beat up by Modern ctrl at Plat 2 players really really tilts me a lot (It's the game telling me I suck at decision making, defense and RPS). You are good at this, keep it up. You're right about ego, it's embarrassing sometimes how I act after I do something dumb and get smoked. So this is all good advice, thanks man.
Playing casuals until you’ve beaten a number of different ranks, such as master, diamond, platinum, or even gold can motivate you enough to play ranked. Just knowing that you’ve beaten these different ranks in casual consecutively, is enough to start my rank journey. That was one way that helped me. Although they may play a little different in rank compared to classic, just having that consistent win toward the same rank is more than enough to know. And i listen to music through my headphones while I’m playing ranked to get over that anxiety lol.
One advice that I'm currently using that helps me is "when I fight someone, I'm playing their game, not mine". Whenever I practice anything for a while like "delay throw tech", when I fight someone, I only use throw tech when I know it will be useful. So If my only opponent shimmy or jump on my wake up a lot, I should probably not use delay throw tech. Even though it sucks that I can't use what I practice. Learning WHEN to use what I practiced is just as important as LEARNING the tech/strategy itself. This really applies a lot for my climb with cammy from silver to diamond 3 atm. I still remember beating a gold cammy with just anti-airs cause that cammy only kept jumping at me
Yes this actually helps so much, I realized I delay tech a lot and then a lot of people will jump me, and once I realized that they like to do that… I just wait for their jump and anti air. Super useful to see the when/why
Brother, that playing with goals one is so real. As someone with friends who are INCREDIBLE at fighting games and were known in their respective communities online, I had to go from sucking ass and not knowing how to consistently do specials to being an above average MK11 (my first fighting game) player within a couple months. And then going from MK to Tekken, I had to completely relearn movement from scratch and retrain my juggle muscle memory since the gravity’s different in Tekken. And THEN transitioning from that to SF6, I had to learn how to consistently do supers, and I told myself “Your goal is to complete X combo trial” “Your goal is to consistently cancel this special into super” “Your goal is to hit this BnB consistently” because hitting supers is hard, man. (Off topic but if you’re new to street fighter, don’t beat yourself up about struggling with super inputs, they are actually pretty hard lol) But with those goals in mind, I hopped into games with my friend and started to get a feel for hitting those combos online and the dopamine hit when you actually hit it to kill is UNMATCHED.
Lots of great advice here. Focus on skill improvement and the wins will come. The other thing I’d like to add it you really need to tune a lot of the fgc out, it’s not like they’re doing it on purpose but you will see comments all the time like “bro the game doesn’t even start until you hit 4K MR ultra legend” If you are in a lower rank or have a lower MR you can start to feel discouraged that you’re not good and you never will be. Ignore stuff like this. It’s just humble bragging and the people saying it never say it about a rank they aren’t at. It felt like I couldnt apply anything that I'd been working on, and I would get tilted. So with those people, instead of trying to land that combo I'd been practicing, I'd focus on defense and anti airs, and they will eventually overcommit and you can punish. The matches wont always look pretty, but that's what you gotta do sometimes in a game as volatile as SF6. And then if the person is down to actually play the game, that's when the knowledge comes in. Just pick top tier....
Lots of great advice here. Focus on skill improvement and the wins will come.
The other thing I’d like to add it you really need to tune a lot of the fgc out, it’s not like they’re doing it on purpose but you will see comments all the time like “bro the game doesn’t even start until you hit 4K MR ultra legend”
If you are in a lower rank or have a lower MR you can start to feel discouraged that you’re not good and you never will be.
Ignore stuff like this. It’s just humble bragging and the people saying it never say it about a rank they aren’t at.
Focus on yourself, when people say ranked doesn’t matter they mean it, it’s meaningless, some top players barely play ranked. There was a compilation of Mena rand he’s diamond 1 because he doesn’t play ranked and the monkey brained comments were all “how tf Mena diamond 1”. Like that doesn’t mean he’s not one of the best in the world.
I actually had a video about that as well, talking about mastering Aki. It is true how like the “game outside the game” can affect you as well. Also lol at the menard part… ppl aren’t real lol
