    I watch a lot of van conversion videos and I can say with confidence that you guys have some of the cleanest and intentional vans I've ever seen, full stop. I don't think I will ever want to buy a van to live in full time but if I ever do, I would look into hiring you guys!

    I love the design of your van builds. The key difference I see is that you build them to be a home, which shows in the details (Finished doors, window frames, etc.) My biggest pet peeve is when I see a beautiful designed van with some bare metal doors!

    Your last question reminded me of the time I lived on a sailboat. Being built of wood I was able to make some modifications in the interior that improved the quality of living, and the ideas came to me organically after living on it for a while.

    Your work clearly demonstrates that minimalist does not have to be cold, sterile and boring. Clean, uncluttered, functional, attractive and comfortable... far more so than many... most... conventional residences.
    Your goal to aquire a small piece of property is definitely the way to go. Having a set base to operate from while maintaining your flexibility with a small wheeled residence. Having land provides you with the ability to have a degree of self sufficiency... continuing to take advantage of modern technology without being a slave to a misdirected system.
    Best wishes and thoughts to you..
    Well done.

    Love the "can you live in a van if you're not an influencer?" Question haha made me chuckle. I'd say once you have a van setup (which does often need a lot of saving to be fair) you can get by in a van comfortably for like $500/month and upwards. All in. It can be an incredibly cheap way of living... That was the point of it back in the day 😅

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  10 місяців тому +2

      We would totally agree! It can be a bit of an investment up front but we also really believe that you can build your own van without it being super expensive and there are other options like financing the van itself as well to keep that initial investment a bit lower. It’s a little unfortunate how expensive everything has become.

    • @TomBedlammusic
      @TomBedlammusic 10 місяців тому

      @@scarletandseth yeah it's a little more crazy nowadays. My first van cost less than 4k all in and I lived in that for 3 years. Not sure I could do it that cheap now but it doesn't have to be expensive. Anyways great work as always guys, love your content!

  • @NKBobcat
    @NKBobcat 10 місяців тому +2

    You are the most professional builders I watch on YT and I wish you could have come up with a profitable business model. Selfishly, I enjoy watching you both build vans/homes. Don't give up the dream and perhaps one day you can realize your potential. Stick to a model, perfect the building techniques,, and find a way to do it in a more profitable way without sacrificing the art and quality of your builds. Maybe you can find an investor with the same vision as you? I will follow as long as you are here because you are very good producers of content.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  10 місяців тому +2

      Thank you so much! Unfortunately, something like and investor would ultimately lead to us making even less on our own work since they would receive some of the profits as well. The materials cost and appliances have skyrocketed in price over the last few years. This has brought our return on investment down to 8%-10% of what we put into each build which is simply not worth the risk of investing that much anymore. We have looked into custom builds where the client provides the van and have actually spoken to a few potential clients about doing their vans. However we always walk away from those conversations feeling that the finished van would not meet the same artistic level as our other builds (which is what ultimately fulfills us creatively). There are profitable ways to build camper vans sure. But the real struggle has been to create something unique, artistic, high quality, functional etc. AND to make money without totally overcharging the person on the receiving end of that van. It’s the classic dilemma of fulfilling yourself creatively OR being able to pay your bills and make some money. Unfortunately we have not found a way to make both work at this time. Our own passion for the lifestyle and our creative vision for our vans has gotten in the way of creating a successful business model. We will continue to live in a van for the foreseeable future. Hopefully we can bring some of that same creativity to the content we produce and to future endeavors such as a tiny home or off grid property! Thanks a lot for sticking with us ❤️

    I can completely relate to the trials of van building as a business.. after my build was done, my wife and I considered it and ALMOST pulled the trigger on renting a shop for it, BUT then we realized the cost of that shop was going to eat up our winter travel budget, so we opted to stay a nomad electrician with minimal overhead.
    No regrets.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  7 місяців тому

      Yeah, our expenses pretty much ate our entire profit margin!

    • @Kmax3000
      @Kmax3000 7 місяців тому

      @@scarletandseth ya, such an awful position to be in! And vans are so much work too! I always say, 500unique parts going into every van, customers 1 have high expectations for the money they are putting out & 2 become a liability who are going to call you whenever something goes wrong (even if it’s their misuse). We like the marketability of making good vans..we even thought about making some for students in Toronto - call the model “the dormitory” - everything they need to make it through school without dorm rental costs, but the risk is just too high. It’s so much easier to just bill out per hour as an electrician vs RV shop mechanic-designer-supplier-plumber-carpenter-electrician-&-life-coach!
      But it’s too bad..I would have loved to design and build different models of vans, including “The Apocalypse”!

      The best place to reach out to schedule something with us is on Instagram! Right now we are primarily doing 1/2 hour ($75) or 1 hour ($125) consultation video calls. We usually ask people to send over any ideas they have before hand so we can take a look before the call and answer questions/flush out some ideas. We are also thinking about opening up something a little more in depth like a design program where we actually help DIYers source finishes and put together a vision board for their projects. Or a complete 3D model of the space that will help you stay on track with measurements while you build. We are very familiar with the promaster platform and the 159 offers a lot of opportunities for some creative and functional design choices! Thanks for watching our videos and being a part of our community here ☺️❤️

    Van life is a bit of streesed , if a person is living total life in van that would be a much much stressful , i think van life for a tourist bussiness is good . not for a person who seem's like a homeless or anybody who just wanna experince van life .
    it's a hard life to live in a van , sometimes a person can sick and then what would you do ? a bit more stressful .
    for a less less time van is perfect , like a week or 2 week thats it , and it can only happen if you rent a van to a tourist . then's it gonna be nice passive income but also a van will have some issues over the periods of years , and half of the profit had to bee spend in resolving issues . also i think it's better for the country who has more tourist who just wanna see a nice mountains and lakes and stuff like camping .
    this is what i think , also it's more better for older people then a younger , a younger can even live in a etc car or anything , but it's challenging for a older ones , oldercouples . becauze older get sick more and need comfortable place and the van is perfect for them also they wanna live freely after the retiremnt so it's better for them .
