I love how chat was complaining about how poor the combat is. 1. If they ever played the original SH2, they'd know what REAL poor combat is. So either these kids are 15 and never played OGSH2 or they're just trying to be critical edgelords who just want to look cool. 2. Clearly the shooting is piss poor because the person playing isn't allowing the aiming reticles to close, so the shooting is really inaccurate. Given that James is no Leon Kennedy, it makes sense that he can't shoot for shit unless he takes time to aim. It's a lore friendly game system. So, either chat is full of 15 year old edgelords, or they are just trying to suck up to Bawk and look cool. I'd say it's probably a combination of both. Thankfully Bawk is mature and intelligent enough to ignore 90% of chat.

The thing that I love about Silent Hill 2 OG is the grimy look. You can't see anything clearly, at least on the PS2 version. It makes the horror of it much more raw/dirty. It has never been replicated and probably never will be. Pyramid head looks too "clean" here. About the combat, yeah, original was barebones, but it worked! The protagonists aren't supposed to be great at shooting, melee and dodging... I think it makes the game more engaging... But I get it, people get frustrated with "bad controls" nowadays. Now let's be honest, no one can replicate the original, shock value is just gone... I'm all for the remakes. I like them but I just don't love them like I love the originals...
well you also got to factor that the PS2 was quite limiting on the hardware, even the OG Xbox and Nintendo Game Cube surpassed PS2 when it came to graphics. ie texture quality, resolution and clarity. Yes there's something almost film-like about the original Silent Hill 2 but it was a product of its time. Even Shadows of Colossus was absolutely beautiful on the PS2 however it looks even better on modern hardware
please do remember masahiro ito was the one who wanted the cleaner pyramid head. he was the monster designer and shit he himself literally said he was the one that visualized the combat design of the game , and i trust him a lot since he worked with most members of team silent

Angie! Her and Beneviento are my favourite parts of RE8, and Angie's lines are so great in this game. Her speed though, that's a little rough. And the bad luck of no heals is also super rough
I think my gripe is that the combat animations are all too quick. Like would a human realistically attack like this? I feel like if you add a little more deliberation to the swings you'd have a more "silent hill" feel to them. Right now they still feel a bit too jarring.
Because of what happened with the HD Collection, and the things Troy Baker said about Guy Cihi's concerns at the time, its hard for me to be excited that Troy is voicing James AGAIN. However, at least his performance is less jarring because he isnt dubbing on top of scenes that were made with Guy Cihi's mocap/acting. He has a blank canvas to do his thing on and, for a new interpretation of James, it isnt horrible. I do agree with what you said about some characters looking older than they are in the OG. With Maria i dont think she looked older, but her gimmick was that she had Mary's face over a different skull shape so there was a weirdness. With Angela i think her appearance is dramatic in how old she looks, but at least it isn't unheard of for a trauma victim to go through that. I will say tho that this is a trash introduction to the red pyramid thing. Too tame. Not disturbing at all without the creepy sex acts that make our mind wander.
Nah man, Troy Baker isn’t voicing James in this. The one that voices James is the mocap actor, Luke Roberts. There’s an interview with him and the lady that does Mary/Maria. Ngl, but Imma miss the OG voices. It’ll take a few hours to get used to the new ones.

Seriously? I rather play this than the polish re2 remake. Idc about the quality of the fights, combat or other things. Things that got me in the original are in this remake, the ambience, sound, story. Everything is there. Cant wait to play it
It looks good but i feel like maria's speech is so bland. I feel no emotion, no emphasis just straight up reading. If you go back to OG speech in the cell you will see what i mean. Everything else looks and sounds cool so far.
None of that game is hyper realistic. Infact, it is really remarkably unpolished. And rather jarring for such a series mainstay let alone a genre defining mainstay. Knowing the relevance of this games material is really in stark contrast to how poorly the execution seems to be.

i hate how all the remakes everyone's pretty! the old games have a certain charm about them because the characters aren't Hollywood stars, they were more or less normal (even ugly) looking people.
This game genuinely looks worse than the original in every way. They also made it too videogamey. It's supposed to be a cinematic experience. The PH boss is extra bad. You fight him in a big room and overpower him. In the original he's in a tiny room, it's dark and he's basically invincible until the siren saves you. They're turning this game into Resident Evil and I don't like it.
What was so weird about it? Pretty sure he was saying he expected them to completely change the character to someone that looks more conventionally attractive. Not sure what part of that you're not okay with.

Combat in this game is meant to represent an average individual with minimal/ average skills not a professional fighter
