  • Today I'm going to show you 5 different acrylic cloud painting techniques! Let's do something fun, constructive, and social with our time of social distancing and self-isolation. Just because we're apart, doesn't mean we're alone 💛
Just grab an old canvas or a sheet of paper, a couple of brushes, a palette knife, and a couple tubes of paint, and let's do this thing!

Thank you! I've been working 12 hour shifts and 6 days this week. I'm tired, stressed, and unnerved. I had several canvas boards ready for two weeks to practice clouds for a painting. My plan at the end of this long week was to shut out the world and paint on my day off. When I crawled into bed last night with my phone, look what showed up on my youtube!!! I fell asleep watching and listening to you paint. Every time I woke up,( sleep is scattered with crazy dreams) I started the video where I nodded off 🤗 Finished it this morning. Now it's almost 7am. I hear birds, coffee is brewing. Time to paint. ❤
You are soothing for my soul.

First comment ever! #1 I dig the color you chose for your living room walls, #2 dog snores are the best comforting noise ever and #3 Thank you for being so generous with your time and talent! It is so appreciated.

Don't worry so much about us! We can't hear noises in the background. Those who love to paint just want to watch you and hear you explain. Camera angles aren't so important to us at this point. We're just thankful for the time you're taking to do this for us. AND...your voice is sooo soothing. I've had to give us brush painting because I have a lung condition and the meds make me shake really badly. So, I've taken up acrylic pouring. Having fun with it, but it's not my first love. I'm living vicariously through you. :)

And stop apologizing luv, we do what we can with the situation we are in! :) 💜 and I think it´s VERY important that we can escape for a while and create, get our minds off of everything. And watching you, whatever setting you have, is peaceful and calm, it makes you forget everything else but the moment you are in! :) you kinda brings us mindfulness in every video you make (not kinda, you ARE)
I´m all out on ideas, but whatever you post, I´ll be here watching and liking :) 💜

Oh wow this was great Jane. So helpful and encouraging and relaxing. You are so positive. I’ve been looking at a lot of the Old Masters paintings, making various observations. One of the things I’ve noticed is some painters just make little cotton ball puffs repeatedly across their skies in a single painting. Then that becomes the style in ALL of their paintings. I’ve also been noticing clouds outside on my back porch at various times of day. I’ve learned that unless you’re making cottonball or worm clouds- you really can’t make a wrong cloud. ⛅️

That was so great, Jane. I appreciate you doing this. I have anxiety but it's even more challenging right now so this gave me something to focus on besides all of the fear and uncertainty in the world right now.
Some ideas for you to consider: waves (with calm and stormy, tree bark using different brushes, palette knife flowers (peonies, gerbera daisies, hydrangeas etc), how to create fabric folds with light and shadow, how to paint metal (rusted iron, bronze with patina, brass, copper etc) and a challenge for you..... Finger paint a full landscape with lots of color! Let the shenanigans begin! Lol!

I love your beautiful bold colors in your house too! While we are stuck at home that's something that would be fun to do too.. Maybe I'll paint the whole house! Lol Sending lots of love dear friend!!! 🙏🏽♥️🤗🎨And thank you for sharing!! 😘

I've created my own technique for clouds. I cut the top of a stiff, low quality tapered round brush straight across and I use it by dabbing it in black or any other dark color and then in white(not mixing it) and then I dab it on the canvas in a random(as random as I possibly can) pattern

Hi Jane, thanks for this video, perfect timing Asimov have my PWJ cloud brushes so I am going to go for it.
It’s great you’re still doing these videos for us and for yourself during this time when things are pretty muddled and a little scary so thank you for that.
One thing I struggle with is making a mountain look like rock once the background is done. Adding highlights and low lights and mid tones and all of it looking like rock never seems to happen, so maybe that’s an idea for another of these short specific tutorials.
Stay safe, keep smiling and we all love you 🙏

Great tutorial, Jane. Thanks!! I would have loved to see the finger technique of painting clouds, the one you did on the stormy sky painting, which is one of my favorite tutorials. That finger painting technique of painting clouds is a revelation!!! Anyways, another idea for a technique video would be painting rocks or mountains. I always struggle with those...

Hi, could you try making clouds with a makeup sponge and ither sponges plus using a fan brush. Thanks. Love yourcstirmy cloud paintings. I made 2 different with flowers. I love doing these and fields and meadows.
Clouds are tough . Dome turned out great others were a pure disaster. I find if youve not been painting for a few months you can lose your ability to create as well as before. I have done some nice and some ive gotten very frustrated on since i hate making mistakes. Made many of your paintings. I love the stormy sky paintings, made several ive changed sky colors etc. I love fields and meadow paintings too. And your fall paintings. The onecwith orange sky and purple was very hard to see . Id love to do this again but because i cant see some places i cant do it as desjred. Could you do it again abit different.
Much thanks jane. God bless you for your time in these great tutorials. Looking forward to seeing more all the time. Cathy jan johnson kennewick, washington
