      None. None of these women were Indonesian, were they? They used words like "belacan" and "gula melaka," which are Malaysian Malay terms, and no Indonesian would put shrimp paste and sweet soy sauce in a _rendang_ and we wouldn't make that kind of wet and sloppy _rendang_ either because we take traditions seriously.

      @@KilanEatsandDrinks no Malaysian would put belacan in rendang .... That is not rendang. And I would agree most of the rendangs do not look like rendangs. Find Malaysians and Indonesians who can cook rendang. Come on, the Brits colonised Malaysia for so long, there are Malaysians in the UK who can cook a proper rendang. Please do us justice!

      @@shahesfelazi8549 well that lady Jenny did indeed put shrimp paste in her so-called “rendang” and she was the one who said "belacan" and "gula melaka" so she is obviously Malaysian. Considering this is Buzzfeed UK, it actually makes sense that it is easier to find Malaysians there than Indonesians.

      She was the one that said that having lemongrass was a good thing, but then she also criticised the dish for having too much lemongrass. She criticized the dish for having a gravy and then said she likes the idea of having sauce with it and it makes it not as dry, which I think is funny. She confuses me. Also, she doesn't seem to be able to correctly pronounce the name of the dish, which is rendang. She says Run Dang. That's just very British of her. 😂

      My mother had taught me to make original rendang which is cooked on high heat until cooked, then left for 8 hours straight on very small heat while occasionally lift-stirring to avoid burning. The rendang should look lil bit dry not much water coz you should drying it to make it last longer.. And we not used pressure cooker to make it.. It should mix it with slow cooker techinque for almost 6-8 hours until it dry

      Rendang have 2 kind of spices, softened spices (with blender/food processor)
      (garlic, shallot, turmeric, galangal, ginger, curly chili, large red chili, white pepper)
      and whole spices
      (bay leaf, lemongrass, galangal, galangal leaves, cinnamon, clove, lime leaves)
      The steps:
      Saute the softened spices until fragrant, then add whole spices until the unpleasant odor is gone, add beef (use topside) stir well and cook until the outer part of the beef turns brown and greasy. Add coconut milk and stir well. Add sugar, salt, msg, then simmer it in low heat until dry (need 7-8 hours and stirred over time)
      There is 2 version of rendang:
      true Rendang have dark brown color and dry texture.
      Kalio, rendang that cooked faster so the coconut milk isn't evaporate wholly, the color is brown and have thick sauce

But again, why would you put shrimp paste in a _rendang_ people? 😵‍💫
    I can imagine all the Minangkabau cooks shaking with anger watching this. Also, we wouldn’t describe _rendang_ as a curry because we have a distinction when it comes to the two. Nah, mom's the best. 'Nuff said, fragrant, berlemak, manis and comforting because it tastes like home.
    I don't usually see much dried spice in rendang, cinnamon at most but usually fresh aromatics like galangal, daun kencur, daun limau, ginger, shallots.
    Shafali's rendang recipe seems interesting, not my go to, but interesting, she also has a misunderstanding of what rendang is, there's multiple ways to approach rendang and can be either basah or kering, not necessarily dry dry. Typically it's cooked dry because it's meant to be keep for longer in days past but there are wetter versions of rendang based on where the recipe has travelled to within the Indo-Malay region, but not wet like Jenny's, never seen a rendang that wet either.
    Also, no fresh grated coconut! Only caramelised desiccated coconut, aka kerisik! You want your rendang to spoil fast you put your grated coconut, otherwise, no.

    Rin-Dung aka Rendang Is meant to be ‘dry’ with no sauce as such! Man, this is a tad bit shameful for Indonesians far and wide tbh. It was actually cringe worthy 🫣😖 plus ladies… where is the rice!? 😭😢 how sad and disappointing, I’ve always wanted an Indonesian episode. Btw, Rendang does not have Star anise, cinnamon nor soy sauce as a flavour profile!? What is wrong with this video 😩 I highly doubt that what any of them made was Rendang!? Have they actually tasted authentic Indonesian food?

    These ladies might be able to fool the brits.... but not real minang people. Rendang is supposed to be dry, because it is a method of preservation.. What Jenny and Hazze serve is not rendang, but Hazze served Kalio, perhaps.... Jenny's looks like it is still at the gulai stage... If it's wet like that, it won't keep.

    Tasting show for Indonesian rendang but using shrimp paste for rendang.... Indonesian rendang doesn't even use that ingredient 😢 the last rendang looks more like Kalio or Gulai than Rendang.
    What do you mean with overcooked? Rendang is an overcooked dish obviously.

      “Bahasa” means “Language“. It doesn’t mean Indonesian .
      English = Bahasa Inggris
      Japanese = Bahasa Jepang
      Italian = Bahasa Italia
      Vietnamese = Bahasa Vietnam
      Indonesian = Bahasa Indonesia
      and so on.
      Every single “language” on the whole multiverse is literally “bahasa”. Even ones spoken by aliens or animals.
