"Blindsight" by Peter Watts had an awesome idea: what if alien life could evolve to build spaceships and spread across the cosmos without developing sentience? The aliens in that book breathed CO2, had a different kind of ATP that gave them short bursts of speed instead of continuous energy, and they could kind of mimic human speech but were not actually sentient.

For me its warrior cats, in fifth grade my friend really liked it and convinced me to read it. And even though some of the storyline plots can get repetitive (forbidden love, tigerstar, etc) Its still a very fun series and also surprisingly dark for a kids book

Ikr I love the series but it just drops off and gets boring for me once dovewing and ivypool get introduced. I know they are essential due to the prophecy thing, but it gets so boring for me. But the first series is incredible and then it gets revived with lionheart jayfeather and hollyleaf.

The final boss level against Robotnik (I refuse to call him eggman) in the first ever Sonic game. Sonic 2 came with my Sega. By the time I got the first Sonic game, I was so used to spin dash and save points that the OG game was a horrific slog to me. I only ever got to the final boss one time, and that level was so horribly difficult, and I had already slogged so hard for HOURS to get there in the first place, that when I lost I just gave up and never played that game again.

    - What was the first book you ever read that made you wanna read more?
    1) The Giver by Lois Lowry.
    2) The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. I remember trying to hide my face when reading "Stay Gold" cause my eyes wouldn't stop leaking.
Honestly, I don't remember which I read first. This was back in the mid-90s when I was 13 years old. But both books got me into reading more because I finally understood why authors go into details when it comes to world building and why it's crucial for them to put their readers into the minds of their character(s).

13:41 for me it was The Black Stallion. I loved horses as a kid and when I discovered it in the school library I was constantly checking it out. The next one was Nancy Drew and the Secret of Shadow Ranch. After those 2 books I could not get enough of reading. I'm currently 63 and I still love to read, with science fiction being my favorite genre. Dragonriders of Pern, Dune, The Foundation are all great series.
20:07 SUMMER!!! I HATE it when it's hot all the time and doesn't even cool down enough at night to be able to be comfortable enough to sleep. You're sweaty and stinky the minute you walk out the door, so you feel like the shower you took that morning was a waste of water. And don't get me started on how high the electric bill gets from having to run the air conditioning all the time! Even if you have it set over 78 like they advise you to so you save energy it's still like a kick in the teeth. Although the cold bothers me more now that I'm older I'd rather have it be winter. At least with winter you can bundle up to stay warm, but in summer there's only so much you can legally take off.
21:14. Foreigner with Kelly Hanson as the lead singer. I've loved them ever since they first came out and even felt the same about them when Mick Jones got Kelly to replace Lou. Yes Lou was good, but Kelly is good too.

Edit 1: okay yes Cartoon Network had like THE best shows and I would watch it constantly.

I’d say my top video games that changed me were:
    1. Skylanders Adventure when I was a weeee li’l lad. Even though buying the Skylanders is so dumb and a waste of money, it was so mesmerizing. I actually got my first Skylander ever, Drobot, before I even got the game. Got the game that Christmas, and it was so much fun playing with Drobot, since he was broken in the first two games. Anyways, this game really showed me what gaming can do, and I soon became a fan of the concept.
    2. Super Smash Bros For WiiU was a game I played sooooo much back before Ultimate. It really helped me be more social, as I could talk about a game that almost everyone played and really helped me get my first true set of friends, who I’m still friends with to this day. My favorite mode was SmashTour (Ik haha bad mode but I loved it), I just loved that anything could happen. This game really helped me be social to others around me.
    3. One of my favorite games of all time, despite it being so bad in recent years, is Five Nights At Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery. This game helped me conquer my fears of the franchise, and now I absolutely am a fan of it. I was introduced to a family friend around 2014. The showed me FnaF 1 on mobile and I was traumatized. Absolutely boycotted the entire franchise, and was horrified to go to any restaurant with that kind of thing like Chuck E. Cheese. About January 2020, my friend convinced me to give the game a try despite my many statements of not playing it. He eventually convinced me, and I was hooked. I LOVED THIS GAME, and still do! Even though it’s gone through some… things, and there hasn’t been an update in half a year, I’m still playing and completing my collection, as I still don’t have everything in the game. This is by far one of my favorites.
Honorable mentions include NSMB Wii and Mario Galaxy (1) for introducing me to Mario, A Hat In Time for showing me how to do a lot with a little and being a great platformer, Roblox Piggy for connecting me closer to people in the internet and overall being a great game, and finally, Brawl Stars. Brawl Stars is a unique one, so I’ll leave a reply detailing my thoughts about it because this is way too long. If you actually read this far, thanks for listening to me, and how these games changed me as a person.

Now Brawl Stars I joined REALLY late in the community for. I started playing around Season 6(The GoldArm Gang), which is about two years into its lifespan. I was really hooked with this game. I picked it up around the beginning of summer, and that was my whole summer. Playing season 6 and 7(Jurassic Splash), and unlocking Leon one day before his Dino Leon skin came out. I’ve been playing it since. I didn’t put it on the main list because it didn’t really teach me anything other than the fact that MOBAs are actually fun and strategy based. Anyways, thanks for listening to my TED Talk about my life, and “Stu” safe out there.

Video game that made me. Final Fantasy 7. Before this game all I’d ever seen were Mario and Sonics. FF7 opened me up to a whole realm of rpg’s. Chrono Trigger; Legend of Zelda(all); Xenogears; Legend of Dragoon; Legend of Legaia(damn lots of legends in this genre) and so many other games that have come and gone. Damn now I have to go home and dust off my copy of Chrono Trigger.
Edit to add: really dating myself here but. Video game sounds I can hear: NES Blades of Steel. The only words spoken on this old cartridge was the title of the game. But it sounded like a man with a mouth full of cotton balls and not moving their lips while doing it.

The first book series that I got hooked on when I was around 8 years old were Goosebumps and Baby-sitter's Club. Loved those series so much! I had a classmate who loved Deltora Quest. He was always raving about it and recommending it. My cousin as well. It's been on my To Read list for decades haha. One day I will give it a shot :)

When people ask what my favorite movie I clench my teeth and start sweating, fighting the urge to babble and scream about Yakuza Like a Dragon (2007), it is the best video game movie I've ever seen, I can talk about it for hours, especially fighting scenes between Majima and Kiryu.
But instead I try to look normal and say "oh it's like.. Hobbit... I think"

Funnily enough it is a toss up between Deltora Quest, I picked up the individual books at the library before I got the big book of the whole first series and subsequent world building books, and the Dragonology books, I had the big red one but also a novel which was about the guy who 'wrote' the dragonology book and two kids I read many times
I fell off from reading after primary school, I think the fixation on fantasy, especially dragons, pulled me into both and high school had the forced reading I despised, though I didn't mind Holes and read it a few times in my own time, Christopher Pike got me back in. There was no specific book that time, though The Last Vampire series is one I reread every now and then though the last two books I think got bad, his short novellas simply were easy to read and having a mix that were supernatural and some just human were good, employing different styles, such as the court set up for one because of what the plot revolved around, got me back in during my teenage years and started a years long horror special interest

The book series that really got me into reading was Warriors ( by Erin Hunter ). I read the books all the way until 2019- still haven't finished the 4th series yet lmfao. Though Percy Jackson comes in at a close second, and the Dragonbone Chair series ( my dad got me into this lol ).
