    LYRICS:
How could this family afford this facility?
Have you seen the cost of real estate? It's insanity!
A kitchen? Are you kidding me?
Who let them paint that door?
    Did someone bribe a commissioner?
The loudest peeps that you've ever seen
    And compliance costs balloon
But if you stop supply as demand rises
    It's no wonder very soon
Everywhere you look, there's a tarp
A sheet to hold on to
Everywhere you look, there's a space
Look, some condos could go there
    Everywhere you look
Changing our town's character is what I bemoan
There's a guy taking a crap outside a Cold Stone
    And red tape
    Everywhere you look

Brooke King That is a foolish statement. Ma and Pa in a single family home are not displacing anyone. Just because rich young techies want to live in the same neighborhood does not give them the right to destroy it.

    • @brookeking8559
      @brookeking8559 4 роки тому +24

Save Marinwood, I agree Ma and Pa in a single-family residence don’t displace anyone and never stated anything to the contrary.
What I did was merely state an obvious economic effect: If housing supply is artificially restricted, only people with connections will build or redevelop and only the wealthy will be able to pay the high rents or high purchase prices that necessarily result from restricted supply in a desirable place.
I know people who grew up in SF and cannot afford to live there while their parents remain in SF. I also know people who grew up in SF and necessarily moved out of SF when they left home and who’s parents passed. Instead of moving back from where they’ve made their and their children’s lives, they rent out their parent’s homes for what are amazing, sky-high rents because they can because of the distorted market. Ma and Pa didn’t displace anyone, but unreasonable policies mean Ma and Pa’s children have a very strong incentive to rent to the only people who can afford the space: Rich techies.
Believe me, “rich techies” love SF or they would not live there while working on the Peninsula or in the South Bay. Unfortunately, current policies mean rich techies displace some of San Francisco’s wonderful, diverse cultural flavors.
Your statement added no information to refute my statement that you called foolish without any supporting facts or logic. Instead you said it was foolish and asserted that rich techies destroy neighborhoods. If you meant rich techies decrease a neighborhood’s diversity and flavor, I say look to city hall and SF voters for why that happens, for why SF is more than twice the size, has less than half the residents, and has far, far less than the daytime population of heavily regulated Manhattan, yet has more expensive housing. I don’t want SF to be Manhattan, and it never will be, but the ridiculous level of regulations distort the market even more than in Manhattan - quite a feat - consequently favoring the affluent and disfavoring the bulk of the population.

@@samgeer3583 Apartment rental companies pay contractors to build the apartments.
Tenants pay rent, which will eventually cover the building cost of the aparments, after which the company will go with profit.
The rent would go down if the supply of apartments would drastically increase.
A lower rent would mean that it would take longer for the rental companies to go into the green after their initial investment.
As such, the rental companies are incentivised to keep the construction of new apartments lower then the demand.
The goverments role in this is mainly to make sure that the rental companies and the building contractors aren't cutting corners in order to profit at the expense of the future tenant.
This is not something artifical, regulations are there to uphold a safe standard of living. If you take away the regulations it won't take long before the city becomes known for its unsafe housing. Which in turn may cause people to move to another city or not move there in the first place. This can also have similar effects on companies.
If anything, a way to solve this would be for more goverment involvment, by subsidising part of the construction costs. This would make rental companies agree to lower their renting prices, as their initial investment will be much smaller.

If you want to experience the ridiculousness of SF regulations, try getting a permit to replace a street facing window on a home that is 50+ years old. The city requires wood clad aluminum windows to preserve the character. Those things are 3x the cost of even an aluminum frame window!

    • @poodlescone9700

@Friedrich No it is not. It creates an unnecessary hindrance to fixing broken windows or updating to double or triple panes to improve energy efficiency. People would rather paint over existing window sills than go through the expense and hassles. This is why so many homes here are still using the original single pane counterweight windows at the front while the side and back windows are brand new. The rest of us simply forgo the permit and replace the front facing windows ourselves discretely. Nobody gives a shit. That means the law is superfluous and bureaucratic while serving no purpose.

Naw. You missed an episode or two. The cousins thing was just what they told the kids.
Danny Tanner had a coke addiction. ua-cam.com/video/LEberTUvrsE/v-deo.html
It was the 80s and he was on tv and what not. Just habbit til his wife's death then he went off the rails tooting a ball a day. That's why he was always cleaning shit that didn't need to be cleaned.
Being out his mind 24/7 naturally affected his ability to focus freed all inhibitions.
Often saying random or inappropriate statements on air. In order to suppress suspicions
And protect his public image. He filed to operate a sober living home. Which to the general public can be presented as a self sacrificing charitable effort and moral character, but in reality is more often a manner in which to legally operate a flop house charging premium rent to people on whatever conditional terms you wish and can legally evict them with just 24 hours notice just by saying they were using or not meeting conditional terms. Danny was so high though he never bothered to worry about the sobriety of his tenets. Jesse was hooked on heroin and his parents paid his rent to fell good about themselves and get him out their hair. He ended up getting clean on his on to marry that fine ass Becky. Sadly it turned out he was actually quite lame sober and started packing on a gut quick like. Joey was just an all round junky and little bit of a boozer. Though he was very fond of mdma, mushrooms , and from time to time Lsd or mesclun, but smoked Weed habitually. He and danny had known each other as kids, but joey got way into drugs in college and dropped out, way out. His parents tried committing him and eventually disowned him. The state diagnosed him as mentally disabled and paid him a monthly welfare payment. Danny let him slide from time to time
As long as he changed diapers and dealt with those bratty kids so they didn't blow Danny's high or he was just to f'd up till deal with them. After a few years Danny's tolerance got so high and likely blown all his saratonian receptors that he wasn't even able to get off anymore so chilled back to reality. But was full blown addicted and had to use daily to function. Often would still ocd spaz out with a mop or vacuums, but long gone were the days cleaning the whole house while cheezing or getting a hard on when michelle dropped cookie crumbs. His jaded demeanor eventually soured his on air appeal. Jesse family's money stopped after he moved out. Joey had held a resentment Against danny the whole time and totally got off on the fact danny was facing financial troubles and joey had actually become financially secure. Having pretty much raised michelle and stephanie. He offered to support them and assume guardianship on condition danny got out of their lives completely till he was sober and clean. Took a couple years but danny finaly hit his bottom and started going to meetings and working steps program. After a while the girls forgave him enough to let him around their kids from time to time.

Those people aren't San Franciscans priced out of the market; they've flocked to SF from all over the country because the weather's nicer in SF and they know they can do whatever they want in SF and get away with it.

No amount of housing supply would have met demand in San Francisco with the rate at which the city was growing. Ironically, that was caused by artificially low taxes for tech companies. Cute song tho.

  • @robertmiller6444
    @robertmiller6444 4 роки тому +3

Um, yeah, except that space is finite and demand vastly outstrips the physical carrying capacity. People act like "if you would just build enough housing..." as if space in SF were infinite. Except that it is not and it is physically impossible to build enough capacity in SF to satisfy demand.

    • @bigredog100

No there actually is, its that the people who create these "restrictions" is the problem. There are literally vacant buildings that can easily house a multitude of people, but "restrictions" don't allow for any changes. The very reason housing is so expensive is because there is a LACK of housing.
