  • A viral 31-second clip uploaded to TikTok Wednesday showed a person in a white Lexus pull up alongside a parked black vehicle, break its back window, pull items out of the back seat and then drive off: bit.ly/3KVL8Qu
The camera then pans to a San Francisco Police Department vehicle flashing its lights just a car length away.
The TikTok racked up more than 205,000 views by Thursday night and was reposted several times on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter. Thousands of comments accuse the officer of being distracted or ignoring the theft.
But in the longer, original version of the video, the police officer can be seen backing up his vehicle and turning down the street to chase after the white Lexus, according to the man who took the video, who requested to remain anonymous due to fears of being targeted.
In a Thursday statement, SFPD confirmed the break-in happened around 6:40 p.m. Monday night in Alamo Square Park. The sergeant sitting in the police car was in the area to conduct proactive patrols, according to the department, and was flagged down after the break-in started.
The officer immediately drove to the site of the theft, where the suspect was already out of the vehicle and attempting to flee. The suspect then dropped the stolen items and drove away, the department said.

SFPD literally prohibits officers from "using radio car to block, barricade, or channel" of suspect vehicles. Once the radio car was facing the wrong direction he could not, by policy, move to block the getaway vehicle. SFPD policy strictly prohibits vehicle pursuits of car burglars.

cop would’ve gotten punished if he dares to step out the car cause Citizens of SF think criminals deserve rights. so blame the citizens and the politicians that wanted this

SFPD keeps us safe. Their jobs are harder than any of us are willing to sacrifice - even for our own family, let alone strangers. Support our cops for safer neighborhoods, not the ones who attack them - they do nothing to keep us safe. Mere agitators.

Stolen car is a lot easier to find later. The idiot driving the car like a mad man is a lot bigger threat to the general population. They call in the break in then go after the immediate danger. It makes sense

Easier solution than this. Arm the citizens so the criminals fear their victims. Because they clearly don't fear the law or the system.

@@andrew1898 wouldn't that also be arming the criminals? That doesn't really make sense in the slightest

@@spiritual-lyrical-individual the criminals are already armed. So if the average joe is able to even the playing field there would be less victims and more pieces of 💩 meeting hot steel.

It's like the cop wasn't sure how to react. But they did lower their standards to hire a bunch of people out of desperation, lack of recruits. Police quality was bound to suffer if you make the profession so stigmatized. SF, you brought this upon yourself.
