Love the whisky shopping videos. I missed a BUNCH of these Islay/Campbeltown vids when they were new. I love that they are just here waiting for me whenever I'm ready to watch/listen. Cheers!
Here in Japan, prices of Scotch whisky have really risen recently. Presumably, this reflects the depreciation of the yen against the pound. Retails outlets are asking some 5,000 yen for a 12-year Bowmore. At 173 yen to the pound, that's around 29 pounds. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit
I absolutely love these videos and am looking forward to your adventures in Scotland. US liquor laws must vary by state regarding trying spirit samples in liquor stores as I’ve been to a few states that allow this practice.
Nice shop, always like seeing those independent bottlings and the casks look fun. That Balblair 00 is $73 at the whisky exchange and a really nice one to compare to the 99 with the sherry vs the bourbon of the 99 they are different but similar if that makes sense. Cheers
Prices were a little all over the place, Bunna 12 for £47 but GlenDronach 15 for £62? Decent selection though, there's a cool place in Chester near me that I feel you guys might like to visit 😉
@@WhiskyMystery It's got a weird name, Turmeaus I think. They're part of a group who do whisky & cigars, covered by the website cgarsltd.co.uk It's a bit unique anyway as it's tucked away under the rows in Chester. Good selection 👍 interesting prices 😉
The Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malts Festival 2019 bottling was hiding in plain sight between the 15 and the 18. (The peated one finished in rum casks that Ralfy reviewed.)
I enjoy this, browsing along watching you shopping videos. :-) I liked the 2018 edition so much, that I blindly bought the 2019 edition this year. And I don’t regret it at all ;-). Further intelligence: check out the Whisky Wednesday reviews. He reviewed both 2018 and 2019 editions.
When we take our trip to Scotland we are going to visit as many bottle shops as possible, too! I would love to find some deals but it seems that we have it really good here in the States. Where you may find real bargains are with the independent bottlers. I bet they are much cheaper over there compared to here.
We will find out. Some higher end bottles like Springbank 21 are much cheaper especially if you can get the tax back as a tourist. I am looking forward to a Cadenheads shop visit soon.
Got a The Whisky Shop near me at Lakeside in Essex. I find it a little pricy and more aimed at the gift and occasional buyer. You can join their club, annual membership, and get discounts which makes it more worth while.
I am VERY curious about the whisky marmalades and mustards. I've been trying to think of a way of making a peated scented candle so I can make my house smell like Ardbeg or Laphroaig.
Here in Connecticut, tastings are permissible, but not often available. And the tastings tend to feature major brands, rather than more obscure whiskies--the ones we'd like to try! I've never seen samples offered other than in an actual tasting, though. That may not be legal--or maybe shop owners just don't want to store open bottles.
Looks a bit expensive shop i heard that the prices depend a lot on location and stuff in the uk. In cambeltown You can get some decent stuff i heard. Are You going to cambeltown?
UK market is too expensive. Bunnahabhain 12 is 33 euros and in this store is 47 pounds. Seriously? Think about the price of a 25 YO Highland Park or Springbank .... Not a chance...

Oh nice. I feel like going back over them myself it has been such a long time.
that is a nice store - thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jason

Whisky prices hav e risen globally in the last few years.
Their flagship store in the Strand in London is impressive. If you visit London, drop into the Whisky Exchange.
I am guessing prices reflect that location
@@WhiskyMystery the prices aren't much different than their online store

Craigellachie Independent Bottling’s! Nice! I’d of spent a small fortune in there

Thanks Tim. I think I am starting to get whisky overload and we are not even drinking AND still haven’t got to Islay. All in a fun way.

The good thing about these videos is how everyone can spot some thing. Is it a good bottle?

Just burn an old tire. Not enough whisky in the ones we have.

Ah good to know. Seems much more up tight in CA.The UK was very casual...and much better.
I was thinking of doing something similar to this and getting a little chat with the shop owners. Great video guys :)
yes I have had a few interview/shop visits.
@@WhiskyMystery Are you in Scotland at the moment?

Don’t over look the Japanese whisky looks like they got some unicorns in the UK that are hard to find in the USA.
I never know which Japanese whisky are really Japanese
@@WhiskyMystery True. You can start with the distilleries Nikka and Suntory. Those two are official.

I have had whisky samples in shops before, might be a Cali thing. It's not a USA thing though.
Ah good to know thanks. Must be CA
Very nice shop, but there's only *ONE* Canadian whisky! I feel grossly under-represented, especially with all those Ka Va Lans on those shelves...
😀
Can anybody tell me How much need to open a liquor shop like this and average profit After all expenses.
Think of $100 per bottle average! yikes.
Where abouts is The Whisky Shop
