Rider AE I'm amazed that some people diss this movie as a kiddie version of King Kong. In some cases it is, but people can't see it as it own thing like I have as a kid.
The look on Joe's face at 00:06 is always so heartbreaking. He understands a scared child when he sees one, especially since the boy probably reminded him of Jill's child-self.
Yeah, and at 1:55 he is scared because he knows he's risking his own life doing this, but he doesn't give up because he has courage and the boy needs him.
According to Bill Paxton, this was the toughest scene in the movie to film. Plus, the Ferris Wheel was full-scale, so they only had one chance of getting it right.
I loved how people first thought he was a monster but when he saw that little boy trapped on the burning Ferris wheel and saved him later on people appreciated him as a hero
This was a heart pounding moment for this movie. I cried my eyes out every time when I see the ferris wheel getting ready to collapse. It was hooray moment when he saves Jason and sad at the same time because he risked his life to save him so he wouldn't die. I got a little emotional after this because this movie was part of my childhood and it just hit me.

I loved how people first thought he was a monster but when he saw that little boy trapped on the burning Ferris wheel and saved him later on people appreciated him as a hero
This scene of Joe rescuing Jason is a reference to the 1949 Mighty Joe Young original, of the Burning Orphanage where he rescues a little girl from the burning orphanage, this movie actually stayed to true the classic movie. I love this movie along with King Kong 😊🦍
The effects still hold up. The expressions on Joe’s face. As kids we never saw him as anything less than a real animal, and I still don’t. I think it’s a good remake.
This scene showed Joe is much more than just an animal. Risking his life to save a little boy he doesn’t know. This is the moment that showed the world that Joe was not a monster they first believed him to be. He didn’t even just grab the kid, he placed his hand and waited for Jason to trust him before he can help him.
When I was a kid I couldn't stop to cry, now I'm 18 years old and I can't resist to cry again 😭😭😭😭 Edit: As the more time passes, I’m getting older than 18 years old.

Superb music composition coupled with class animatronics and a heartwrenching scene. What really gets me is the eyes. They were so realistic, they say the eyes are the window to the soul and they managed to capture that and show a genuine care in Joe's eyes. The look of a kind soul recognising a young boy in danger as he once was and a need to help and save an innocent from a purely unselfish preposition. This was truely a beautiful scene.
I saw this movie when I was a little kid. I watch it now with my kids. I'm 32 and This scene still makes me cry like a baby. I know it's just a movie but a baby crying for his mommy breaks my heart! I know I'm just a sentimental nerd!
It's criminal how underrated this film is. It also goes to show that Charlize Theron can make a powerful performance without violence shown. Can anyone imagine a horror or action film being made today without blood? Have we degraded ourselves into being savages?
I haven't seen this whole movie since I was a little kid. I remember I used to have it on VHS and would watch it all the time. This brought back alot of good memories!
When the ferris wheel tips over and both it and Joe hit the ground, I was screaming and wailing so loudly and hysterically and end up in tears at the same time! That is the most horrific site I have ever seen! Both Joe and the boy could've died!
For some reason, after I was a little little kid and watched Mighty Joe Young for the first time, this is the one scene that kept popping in my head once in a while. FINALLY I FOUND OUT WHICH MOVIE IT CAME FROM

I havent seen this movie in so long. I remember being 5 and bawling at this part AND when they locked Joe away. But this scene is just too much for my little heart.
I watched that movie when I was a boy, not more than 4-5. and because of this scene I was always afraid of the Wheel, but I reassured myself saying that if it turns bad Joe will be there
This was aired on HBO and Star Movies when I was a kid, back before 2008's, one of my fav. movies. Man that decade was so nostaglic, sitting in front of TV and watching all these movies! George of the Jungle, Jingle all the way, The Mummy, The Mummy returns, Dunston checks in, Ace Ventura pet detective, Liar liar and so many more!

In the original movie, joe saves a orphan baby girl when her orphanage catches fire, saving her from the flames but also when the building wall collapses, shielding her from the falling debris

I always tear up when Joe risked his life to save little Jason. I'm almost 30 & this scene still reduces me to tears.
Even though it’s revealed that Joe survived as well.

Nothing wrong with that

He killed a monster, and saved an innocent life, you can’t get more heroic than that.
I always tear up when jo starts asking Joe to wake up
Yes well the poacher with the single finger is at last deceased 😂

The look on Joe's face at 00:06 is always so heartbreaking. He understands a scared child when he sees one, especially since the boy probably reminded him of Jill's child-self.
+ Regular Invader
Yes, it does. It also reminds him of himself the night he (Joe) lost his mother to Strasser and his gang of poachers.
Regular Invader at first I though he was gonna hurt that kid
Yeah, and at 1:55 he is scared because he knows he's risking his own life doing this, but he doesn't give up because he has courage and the boy needs him.
Sure goes to show us that animals have feelings, even for others not the same species

No matter how many times I watch this movie I still cry so hard in this scene. Joe is my hero!
I love how the news crews got this scene on TV, so everyone sees Joe for the hero he is as he risks his life to save the boy.
This scene of Joe rescuing Jason is a reference to the 1949 Mighty Joe Young original, of the Burning Orphanage where he rescues a little girl from the burning orphanage, this movie actually stayed to true the classic movie. I love this movie along with King Kong 😊🦍
Such a classic 💙
This scene is great and very emotional, though I think the thing about him saving a girl from a burning orphanage does sound more poetic.
They both are equally !
Rest In Peace, Bill Paxton.
Joe risked his life to save Jason. I was so happy that both Jason & Joe were alright at the end
Yeah, I think seeing Jason in danger, wanting his mother, reminded Joe of himself on the night his mother was killed.
The effects still hold up. The expressions on Joe’s face. As kids we never saw him as anything less than a real animal, and I still don’t. I think it’s a good remake.
This scene gives me shivers and tears in my eyes every time especially when Joe protects the child during the fall
This is without a doubt a scenario filmed with perfection combined with a great music score that stirs up the emotions.
Seeing the poor boy alone and about to die reminded Joe of his past, that may be the reason why he saved Jason from imminent death.
not 2 mention he also gave all those cops a perfectly strong excuse 2 hold fire, what if da kid accidentally got shot instead of Joe.
Yes, but it was the only option to climb,
Joe was really sweet rescuing Jason 216 his eye brows moved up " come on buddy I got you "

Joe’s thoughts: He’s the boy from the Van who waved at me. I got to go help him down.
