I know nothing about the Dresden Files. So when I read this, and heard John say Voldemort got chased by some fae creature the entire way, I was imagining Toot-Toot as some sort of lumbering quadrupedal beast with a huge mouth, lots of teeth, and kinda dumb but extremely loyal.
I just realised that Harry Dresden is also protected by his Witch mother's love, and that she not only died for her children but made his original magic amulet focus. No wonder Dresden could shake it off. His mother was much more powerful then Lily Potter ( no disrespect to Lily, Dresden's Mom had decades of experience on her)
And noone will find another scar on the body of Dresden unusual. "Harry you got a scar there from a very powerfull curse" "Jep collect them like candy"
No. Voldy cant harm potter cos lily offer her life for potter n voldy killed her. So, its kinda like Lily; dont kill my baby, kill me instead. Voldy; kill lily. Thus, due to her death (n sacrifice) voldy n only voldy cant harm hp. Lily offer her life so her son could live. Margaret didnt die to protect hd. She got killed. Shes raith's target. And before she died, she cast her death curse against raith. Thus, in this vid, voldy cant harm hd isnt because of margaret, but simply because the passive defense spell of the duster is strong enough to ward off the killing curse.

Dresden made me feel, as an adult, the same stakes and laughs that Percy Jackson did for me as a kid so I'd give a big recommendation. They're incredibly well written
The first... idk dozen plus books I read of it are among the few that I could never part with because even picky old me finds them so good I could genuinely see myself rereading all of them at some point. And have, in some cases! Often I get picky about writing quality in pro fiction and even if I enjoy a book once, I might not be able to reread it when I know what's coming. But both story and writing are so great in DF that they're an exception to that rule. Jim Butcher's web site has the reading order for the books and short stories (important since they eventually stopped mentioning the numbers on the covers!), but off the top of my head I believe the first three are: - Storm Front - Fool Moon - Grave Peril I think? - I know the fourth book starts getting more into the Faerie Courts but I can't quite recall the title as it's been a few years. In my opinion though everything from book 4 onward is definitely something I would recommend to read in publishing order, because the ongoing plots get increasingly built up, esp with regards to the Faerie and Vampire Courts, and the changes in his personal and professional relationships. So if you can't find the first or second book, or even the third, I wouldnt stress too much? But the further into the series you get the more it's preferable to read in order. That said, he generally seems to make the books pretty accessible. So you could start with a somewhat later book, like Dead Beat (iirc that's the necromancers one, featuring a ZOMBIE T REX at one point. It's awesome, one of my favorites - which is really saying something in a series I can already happily re-read!), and be fine. But there's nuances and such you pick up easier reading it in order. 😊
@@studioyokai well, i have already started reading them (up to book 3 so far) so im enjoying the build up so far. Im enjoying the well defined characters and especially Murphy's absolute agency. @@ProfessorYana shield bracelet has to be activated. The defensive spell on the duster does act automatically... Duster kinda act like bullet proof vest while bracelet act like heavy riot shield.
Thinking about it, I think a Fuego infused with Soulfire might actually be quite the deadly threat to Dementors. Dementors attack the soul, they deal with things on that level. Using an attack powered by Soulfire probably would make it able to harm Dementors in quite the unique way.
It's also been stated in the DF that one of the main reasons Harry likes using fire is it's wide range of effectiveness. Since it's not just physically destructive, but also a symbolic force of purification, it tends to affect spiritual beings just as well if not better than physical ones.
@@AnarchyShogun This is compounded by the fact that magic is influenced by your belief and emotions in the dresdenverse. Quite literally willing your intentions to life.
@Skyfighter64 by that logic it shouldn't harm vampires, but it certainly did. Think of it this way, soulfire acts as a resistance bypass when used against tainted entities
Fun fact. While Harry Potter came out before Dresden, they were both written at the same time. Butcher wrote Stormfront in school for a teacher, and it got rejected many times before finally getting published. So no, Harry Dresden is not named after Harry Potter.
I read Harry Potter first... watched the Dresden files... and have inherited my Dad's entire collection of Books on Harry Dresden... Harry Dresden with his hockey stick and drumstick wands (tv series) definitely more interesting as an adult.

One thing no one else has mentioned here is experience. Voldemort and the dementors are used to fighting wizards who essentially just parry attacks, sometimes with counterspells sometimes literally swiping them out of the air. They have no prepared defenses or wards to deal with and actual magical items are extremely rare, so most wizards never learn to fight with them or against them (asside from wanda). Meanwhile Dresden has been raised and trained for decades to fight other mages and entities that far outclass them. He haa layered defenses, contingency spells, wards, amulets, and magical items. He's literally a walking arsenal of magic, and non-magic, wrapons. Dresden tries to live up to the codes of magic in his universe, but if he needs to nuke and enemy to defeat them, he will. And has. Many, many times. Voldemort comes from a universe with literally 1 killing spell, which he has mastered. He's not used to that spell not working, let alone being countetered. His list of spells and curses are laughably small when compared to what Dresden has at his disposal, even very early in his series. And no one in the Potterverse is prepared to have 6ft of oak staff bounced off their head, not to mention having "Smith & Wesson" cast at them. In any fight, with any version of Dresden vs any version of Voldemort or Potter, Dresden no-diffs this 100% of the time.
Kind off. Unless for some reason HP Magic wouldnt interact that well with Dresdens Magic defenses, there would be quite a limited aray of things he could do to him, even If you go by spells as descibes instead of as intended. Mind bending the entire non protected existances against him would just piss him Off since pretty much anyone dangerous enough to matter wont be unprotected. Arguably His best shot would probably be the more liberal side of Transmutation and reading up on some of that muggle physics. Creating Antimatter should get through most defensives and Not be warded off that well
@pendotxl822 Very true, but Voldemort was lost in proving the superiority of magic vs the real world. Its almost a side plot in the Potter stories, but Voldemort was on the verge or piercing the veil, so to speak, and intent on conquering the human world with his magic. I think he would consider normal science and magic beneath him. But if he did swallow his pride and brush up on his physics and defensive magic, I'd still give it to Harry. Dresden is always punching higher than his weight class, and is used to fighting beings and wizards much stronger than himself. Not to mention that when pressed into a corner, he can pull off some amazing applications of even simple spells, like the earth magic gravity manipulation that turned a few black court vampires into greasy smears on the floor. Not to mention that Voldemort is 110% a classic villain, where he will monolog and gloat about his plans and what he will do to Dresdin, and Harry loves an enemy that just won't shut up. He would use that time to come up with something, and thats usually the time he at his most dangerous. And if we give Harry His full powers-- SPOILER ALERT!- As the Winter Knight he has almost unlimited power at his disposal not mention his ties to the island/loci, and all of his grandfather's spell books, which he still has not fully explored. I love the Potterverse as much as the next guy (Ravenclaws FTW!) but in any situation other than Harry outright surrendering for plot reasons, Dresden takes this fight every time. And even then, Voldemort would have to contend with all of Dresdens allies, enemies, and even few supernatural entities Harry holds contracts/favors with, all of whome have a vested interest in keeping Harry alive, compared to Voldemort who's every ally is only following him because they are too scared not to follow him. If given a chance to see Voldemort dead, for real, they would turn on him in an instant.
@@Scudboy17 oh for sure. unless portkey or fidelius scammery for some reason work no way he can contest. Both of which have little reason to be able to affect anyone "important" in dresden, aswell as taking the spells quite to their edges only based upon no explicit borders being drawn. (portkeys not really having known limitations on state, size, condition and range, fidelius not being exempt from working on people, or what kind of information at all, it can conceal, or the theoretical logik argument that you could force assumptions in peoples head by hiding true information) But considering we havent heard of people portkeying their target to alpha centauri and voldemort not just putting up a fidelius on the existance of deatheaters, or simply that muggle are also humans with feelings forcing his pov on everyone else, those are ofc fun but only theorycraft nonsense. Although there are quite some worlds in fiction that could win that encounter, hp really isnt on that list. If we count indirect winning conditions hp does have the edge in transportation options and a wizard could do quite the damage to the average citizens, but unless we consider the above theorycrafts to work i dont think he could get enough pull to force a surrender without prior knowledge about the world. Ofc not even talking about how off character it would be

I have no idea what series Harry Dresden is from, but as a chilldhood HP fan, the idea of Voldemort charging after a guy he can't kill is extremely amusing
It is a book series called The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Harry Dresden is the main character. Great books which are a sort of cross between magic (vampires, fae, etc), and detective stories (noir ish).
Dresden files by Jim butcher set in modern day Chicago. Harry is a detective pi that openly proclaims to be a wizard in a world just like ours. Where people don't really believe in magic. There is council of wizard's. The fey Titania Maeve. Vampires werewolf demons etc
It’s a hardboiled detective series based in modern day Chicago called the Dresden Files. Book 1 is called “Storm Front” but my favorite is “Dead Beat” which is the 7th book.

I’m totally watching more of your stuff now.
My favorite moment of Dresden vs Evil Mages was when a small time, like Tiny time cult showed up. They branched their wands and what have you. He pulls out a 357 magnum.
First time this got suggested and I love it! Voldemort is outclassed by Dresden. Dresdens duster is intended to protect against physical threats. Knives, bullets, claws, stuff like that. Now I didn't read every comment but I can think of a few things that were not mentioned. Dresden, like other wizards from his reality, can sense when someone is magically talented and feel when they gather energy for a spell. The fact that Voldemort uses a wand would also be a giveaway that he was being attacked. Harry has always worn a shield bracelet which he has greatly improved over the years to negate, reflect, or absorb magical attacks (as well as physical) and help focus his shield when summoned. In a quick face-to-face encounter Harry might not have time to raise his hand to focus an actual shield he could easily send power to his shield bracelet with a thought to activate it. Dealing with a one shot kill spell from a single sorcerer is actually easier than, say, an entropy curse sent from a distance which are much stronger and recurring until it is broken or kills the target. With his shield bracelet active it will blunt the death curse to some degree at least. An even larger degree if it is Dresdens most recent upgrade. With the goal of the curse being a pure absolute, death, and Harry's shield bracelet blocking, reflecting, or nullifying a portion of the curse it effectively renders the whole curse inert. An all or nothing curse like that needs the necessary magic to complete it's goal. Taking any power away, however it's done, would simply leave less than enough energy/power. You are either alive or dead. Such a specific curse without the full amount of energy would be nothing. It's like if you forgot the smallest amount of ingredient for an instant death potion. You would not have the full potion, therefore you have NO potion. Same applies to energy requirements. I think Dresden examined his duster because nothing purely magical had happened to him so he wanted to know if a magically summoned physical force had possibly affected it. Another thing that came to mind was the curse being negated by someones love for you and/or willingness to die for you. I'm not clear on the specifics for the protection. Whatever they are I believe they are more than met by several of the people in the Dresden world. I'll just go to what I think would be the top few. His mother, who did many things before she died (if she IS dead, hehe) to help protect Harry who wears a pentacle talisman on a chain around his neck. This is also a gift from his mother meant for many different things including protection and a symbol of her love. His brother Thomas, who was looking out for Harry before they actually even met, has shown fierce loyalty and love for Dresden, having demonstrated several times his willingness to die for Harry. Karrin Murphy his main love interest who has also shown a willingness to die for Harry. There are a few others but I'm going to throw a trump card out: Michael Carpenter. Michael is a man who would willingly sacrifice himself to save a stranger from harm. He is a man of absolute faith in God to the point that he was called upon to battle evil in His name using only that faith and a holy sword. Michael named one of his children after Harry. He also has trusted Harry specifically with the fate of his daughter Molly, rescuing members of his family on seperate occasions , and generally with the safety oif his entire family on more than one occasion. They have fought side by side many times and he even trusted Dresden knowing he had the shadow of a freaking fallen angel tempting him constantly for a few years. So if this man chosen by God would lay his life down for a complete stranger I think he would do it even more so for Harry who is not only personally loved by Michael for who he is and all the good he has done but for the sacrifices Harry has made to keep Michaels own family from harm. Beyond fighting fallen angels and black magic Harry has become a part of the Carpenter family, seen as an uncle to the many Carpenter children and a brother to Michael himself. If someone like that doesn't meet whatever standard of love and sacrifice required to neutralize a HP world death curse I don't think anyone could.......except perhaps for divine intervention. It has been shown that Harry is recognized as a force for good by not only an archangel but God himself. Even to the point where Harry was specifically drawn into a situation by one or both of them to physically save Michaels daughter Alicia and spiritually save Michael himself. You could go as far as to say specific love from Heaven was with Harry and there is no magic that can even scratch that. One last thing: Yes, I absolutely am a huge Dresden fan. Beyond huge. Every book, hardcover. Including the short story compilations, anything Butcher has contributed a Dresden story to (unless it is in a compilation of course), graphic novels, you name it. I have bought two copies of the last 3 books and will be getting new copies of the rest. Why, you ask? With the time between new releases I have re-read them all so many times that the first 8 are falling apart (Storm Front and Fool Moon have pages taped back in) and the rest are well on the way to the same. I need one set for reading and another for collecting. When I found out Marsters was doing the audiobooks I got them too. I am also losing my mind waiting for a 'Twelve Months' release date because my Dresden withdrawal symptoms get worse every time I check and no date is set. Knowing another one is definitly coming at some point after doesn't help either since I'm already waiting for that one too, lol!

I just realised that Harry Dresden is also protected by his Witch mother's love, and that she not only died for her children but made his original magic amulet focus. Ive never heard a better reason to start reading the dresden files than these shorts.
It's my favorite book series. Reread them constantly. So much fun.
Jim Butcher's web site has the reading order for the books and short stories (important since they eventually stopped mentioning the numbers on the covers!), but off the top of my head I believe the first three are:
- Storm Front
- Fool Moon
- Grave Peril I think?

@@AnarchyShogun In the Dresden universe it does not matter if a thing is matter, or energy, spiritual, or physical fire burns PERIOD!
I think Hellfire would be more likely to kill a dementor, as Soulfire is described as a force of creation, rather than destruction.
@Skyfighter64 by that logic it shouldn't harm vampires, but it certainly did. Think of it this way, soulfire acts as a resistance bypass when used against tainted entities
I mean that's why Harry focuses on fire, it's one of the few kinds of magic that takes out spirits as well

And if we give Harry His full powers-- SPOILER ALERT!-
As the Winter Knight he has almost unlimited power at his disposal not mention his ties to the island/loci, and all of his grandfather's spell books, which he still has not fully explored.

"The Dementors were on Fire...but yeah, this time it was My Fault"
Harry got taller, and so did his wand. 😂

@@jman5949i mean, he is the Winter Knight.
@@travisbishop782 "If Dresden cannot handle a rogue wizard and his underlings, clearly he is not fit to be my Knight."
My only issue with this is that he staff doesn't use fire spells, his blasting rod uses fire spells.
The staff can cast many spells but is not concealable, the blasting rod is less capable but most mortals don't think of it as a weapon.
He uses his staff in pretty much any spell he wants to, including fire
Each tool has different strengths. The blasting rod is built for blasting things with fire. And it's way better than a staff. He can still use the staff to do so however.
The blasting rod(whilst he was using it) was...better? Iirc for fire spells, but his staff was perfectly capable
His staff did transfer the power of a freaking thunder bolt once, fire spell is easy peasy lol 🤣
This video Is what brought his books to my attention I'm on book 7 now and let's just say they are amazing books and can't recommend them enough
Thank you for introducing me to Harry Dresden, I think the next 16 books are going to be a pretty good read.
I see the title and had to laugh. I've though of this a few times. So glad to see a joke about Harry Potter and Harry dresden in an actual skit. I'm dead xD
I can just hear John saying, "Tom he has a gun, and will use it on you. Run now!".
