Best of Eleanor - Gone in 60 Seconds

- Although the stock 1971 Ford Mustang (Eleanor) in the original 1974 Gone in 60 Seconds H.B. Halicki film was certainly not as unique or sexy as the custom 1967 GT500 Mustang in the 2000 remake, it was still nothing to scoff at and could still haul ass as well as absorb serious abuse! Not to mention, the original film portrayed a far more brutal and destructive car chase that totaled over 125 vehicles!
Prepare yourself for one hell of a rough ride as this is the best of the original Eleanor!

People always talk about the Cage Gone in 60 Seconds, but this is the REAL deal. It's so hard to believe the original Eleanor still runs to this day, even after all the abuse it took in that very long chase.
How many cars did they use and destroy to film. At least 10
@@nookam 93.
@@Tiffany.1970 Yes. It is actually a 1971 Sportsroof merely dressed to look like a '73 Mach 1, though the hood stripe is unique.
@@nookam one stunt car. Two hero cars!
Best police chase ever filmed! Toby grew up near me at a junkyard and did his own stunts including the big jump at the end. I was an extra in part 2 driving a police chase car about 2 weeks before Toby was killed. It was never completed. He was a common type, wore a dirty t-shirt during filming and would have a beer with anyone. Nice guy, sadly missed. Thanks for posting this classic!!
Seems cap idk man maybe not

Like many I thought the Cage film was a one off until I saw this by mistaking it for the Cage film on TV one night. This instantly became my favourite car film and the story behind its production is just amazing. Such a shame H.B. Halicki died before his time but this film ensures he will never be forgotten in car circles because that chase is the best in film history in my opinion.
Totally. Better than bullet
Best chase scene ever and no CGI to make it happen everything is real.
Better than bullet
Remember back in the 70's how everyone had a muscle car, even the police?
REAL muscle cars, not the pseudo-muscle produced now (barf). Mopar forever!
Best and most realistic car movie in history I've got it on blue-ray and DVD this 1970s car movie kicks every modern day car chase movies ass big time.
Agreed
0:10 That purr makes me drool everytime.... 😍
Most people don't know this is the original gone in 60 seconds
and the best
I seen it for the first time last night it was a lot of fun to watch
The better movie the only scene in part 2 that's worth watching is when they beat Michael Rapaport to death rest of sux
WoW it is the best, I remember hiring this on a worn out VHS video tape...!
It wasn't available anywhere for over a decade, Happy Days watching this...
It's a three way battle between this, Bullitt and Vanishing Point as the best car movies of all time. The fact this this was effectivley an amateur movie with almost no script, Toby Halicki did all his own stunts, financed, wrote, directed.....its an extraordinary achievement. And kids, it's all real. No CGI, no special effects.
The Italian Job (The Original 1969 film) is another note worthy example too amongst those 3.
@@Benratbag1997 Agreed, the top four. And not a bit of CGI or other special effects in sight.
BestCar chase in film History. The Original and the BEST. 🇮🇲👍🇮🇲
Take a drink every time he trades paint.
I personally prefer the looks of the 1973 Sportsroof Mustang over the 1967 Fastback...looking for a friend
Best car chase ever!
The respect to halicki for driving elearor like that and a hell of a lot od spinal compression
I also hate the cop that smashed into her
That’s how you drive sir
I grew up with the remake and never saw any of the original until just now. I always assumed Eleanor in the original was also a '67 Shelby GT500
I absolutely love the original and the remake but I love the original for its creativity you can’t remake a movie scene like this nowadays with using a classic car because what’s the odds of you finding another classic car the exact one you need back then you could run into these cars almost every other block so it was really easy for him to swap Mustang’s
That was the beauty of any of the old movies. I recall in the 80s when mild 60s/70s muscle cars could be had for about $1500. The more sought out big-block cars were in the $3-4K range (i.e. '69 Charger with the 440). Now, these prices were in the L.A. area, so there were probably $1500 deals on the big-block cars elsewhere. The unique thing about '68, '69 and '70 Chargers in the L.A. area were how they were essentially all scooped up to be used in 'Dukes of Hazard' which helped drive up prices on the Chargers. Hemis were already collector cars, and were fetching $10K or higher, but that was if they were found. I think the last era where they could have made equivalent low-grade car chase movies would have been in the 90s, maybe into the early 2000s when the 80s and 90s Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, as well as sedans from Ford and Chevy (used as cop cars) could still be had relatively cheaply and were probably as easy to work on as the 60s and 70s cars used in the old movies featuring car chases like 'Gone in...'
well for movies like this, at least in our time now, they use replica cars.. for example the Need for Speed movie in 2014 had hypercar crashes, all replicas but still amazing onboards oh and they also have 60-70's muscle cars in the first race.
my all time favourite
🤪 5 SECOND WARNING . . . 1:39 Another Eleanor Will Appear Parked On The Right Side Of The Street In 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 💥👀 BAM ! ( 1:44 ) 🤪
Too bad it's not the original soundtrack. No original music, no genuine engine sounds or sound effects either.
....And they didn't have to water down the streets for the action shots .
Hey gimme this now
It's sad that such a good piece of independent filming was marred by the director's widow trying to bilk money out of Eleanor owners and builders, by lying to the Courts about copyright claims. It really put a damper on the memory this film, all for her greed.
At 1:46 is that a "HERO ELEANOR" parked on the right??
Anyone who damages or destroys a real us car should be placed in a quarentine cq fema camp
As much as I love the vanishing point challenger this is a way better chase
All those Mazda’s in the dealership 😭
You mean to tell me those cop cars were keeping up with that car ..come on
Lol...those cop cars are fucking fast too.
What ever happened to the other Eleanor?
Crushed, sadly.
@@LITTLE1994 He never did explain why. Makes me wonder if it ever really was. At least we know one of them survived for sure.
@@franklinthefox4306 NOPE! It's still alive and it still runs. It's owned by his horrible widow though, who has taken other people's mustangs they name Eleanor for copyright reasons. It's true, look it up.

NOW THAT's a CAR RACE mean CHASE! DAMN Best EVER... No cars killed in the making of this film... now DESTROYED?... that's debatable Actually no it's not it's a given lots lots lots of cars
一台の黄色いムスタングを追って史上空前93 台が激突する!40分にも及ぶカーチェイスは見もの。CG無しのカーアクション。エレノアの凹み方がカッコ良過ぎる。芸術的。
He was not gone within 60 seconds 0/10 false advertisement
Wow. He destroyed that car from the start. Good chase but I like Nick cage chase better
