Yeah, my general reason and favourtism of PE2 over PE1 is generally the same. In spite of PE2 having flaws, it covers a lot of niches and ticks that makes it enjoyable, enough that I completed all of the NG+ modes at least twice around (including Nightmare Mode).
Parasite Eve 2 is one of my fav old school survival horror games, I have alot of fond memories of PE2, alot of creepy fun. I just wish it got a proper 3rd game instead of the silliness of 3rd Birthday.
Great review! I just finished Parasite Eve 2 and I absolutely loved it. The gameplay, even though the game is 22 years old, is unique and the difficulty was there to keep it interesting. That's a good thing since the game is pretty long.
Yeah, it is kinda long for a survival horror game (with most sitting around 5hrs), but it doesn’t feel that long at all when you’re playing. I had such a great time with it :)
@@ritsuwins did you know that The first parasite Eve game takes place after the Parasite Eve Novels and Also Parasite Eve 2 wasn't supposed be a main game at all
Frankly speaking, while I DO like Parasite Eve's combat system over 2! Mostly cause it STILL felt like a RPG! I always felt Parasite Eve 2' combat system BETTER embodied the Horror RPG concept by being abit more action with elements of RPG and Horror! (It's funny since now a Days the "Action with elements of RPG" is a mixed bag in the BAD direction! Too many feel tacked on that you struggle to call them "RPG" at all or anymore! Quite sad since the idea when done in OLDER games like PE2 showed the potential of them being good) For one I liked how you had to PREPARE for combat beforehand! compared to Parasite Eve 1 where you DID have limited inventory, but you could still have alot and it DID get annoying dealing with it! Where in PE2, you don't have COMPLETELY LIMITED inventory anymore OUTSIDE of combat! In combat if you didn't ready up your slots! Well sucks to be you! I had FUN with the combat! SOME of the Golems REALLY sucked and I will agree, hated with how CAMERA was set that you were getting AMBUSHED before you had a chance to SEE the enemy (to the point I ALWAYS ready the moment I entered a room just to see where the enemy was to me! And annoying when you got ENTRAPED! And of course the Invisible Golems SUCKED since it felt you HAD to let them sneak up and neck lift you for a JUMPSCARE just to start combat!) also to add I liked how they took the FFT/Vagrent Story approach to Armor and HP, namely you're HP is tied to your selected armor and well since before I 100% PE2, I was replaying the ENTIRE RE trilogy (and Zero/Cv) the moment I got my PS3 and downloaded the PS1 RPG I missed (I was a scaredy Cat as I'll admit till RE4 came out and I gave it a GO to see if I can CONQUER my fear of horror at 22 when it came out on the Wii, suffice to say I LOVED it, STILL a scardey cat but that just maes Horror even MORE exciting to me and played as many RE as I could) that Tank Controls and how to dodge became an ART to me (not 100% able to Dodge, but I know how to manuever and helps I know how to use the PE powers! I swear a good amount of the "Complainers" dismiss the system completely without even TRYING too hard! I do enjoy the reviewers who DID try to understand the systems! I've seen this alot, those pushing Hatedom's trying their BEST to downplay the systems when it's clear they tried to play the game WITHOUT! Not refering to THIS game 100%, but I've noticed it in MANY other reviews of games that some nobody wants to be "well known for hating" while not being ORIGINAL! That doesn't mean bun original for the SAKE OF IT! But goddamn don't 50% or more copy someone BETTER at it's concpets! Copying and being inspired isn't wrong unless it enters the point of "UTTER Plagiarism 1010" hate that because it feels like a game is being MISINFORMED all for the sake of making it look bad for clicks and Subs, which can backfire when the HATEDOM or "LOVEDOM" the exact opposite backfire HARD) I'm happy that I saw an Indy USING Parasite Eve 1 combat system which I'm sad has become FORGOTTEN as Legend of Legaia combat system (Legend of Dragoons system was frankly similar to Mario RPG OG SNES which used the interactive Attack where you button pressed to deal more damage at the right time! It's more unique in LoD, but frankly the system which was QTE done RIGHT CONTINUES to be used everywhere! Even Xenoblade Series has it) is thankfully getting utilized and evolved! Saw it on Boulder Punch's "Resident Evil Clone" listing he's done RECENT! But I hope someone utilizes PE2 system as well! In a funny way! PE2 reminded me ALOT of RE4 later down the road with how many guns and stuff you can get, attachments, ETC and the NG+! One thing I loved AND disliked about PE1 system was there was NO POINT in having different type of guns! Those existed to be NEAR USELESS compared to the Pistol and Assault Rifle, and just to JUNK to make a MONSTER Gun! Fun to do in the MAIN GAME but I ain't doing the Chrysler Building! I hated how it felt OUT THERE even for plot and just ACCEPT the "FAKE" ending as real! I mean PE2 did the same (Sucks it had to NEAR COMPLETELY drop EVERYONE from the first game SANS Aya to push a NEW CAST that went ALMOST NO WHERE! Other then Kyle and Eve Jr.! The only character I remember the most is ole Douglass and his dog and Number 9 (though he sucked as a villain and was more an instigating annoyance) I did love how PATHETIC Eve herself ended up! Saw her Final Boss form as the HEIGHT of how pathetic she's been reduced after her "Failed rebellion" where even the SHADOW GOVERNMENT made SURE she would be USED, but be deprived of ANYTHING unique about her sans her power, so she's just a consuming LOSER with no will! It's like what happens when you have a Returning villain pop up just to show that their the FINAL THREAT the hero must face again, but the BAD GUYS really did a number on them) But when it comes to the Guns! At least I remember each gun and thier UNIQUE feel like in Resident Evil 4 and had fun SELECTING what I needed! I will say I HATED how fucking VAGUE everything was to getting the ENDINGS! I get it's TYPICAL of Survival Horror games around this time to make it complicated, but the HUGE hoops you had to go through just. And it still felt abit RUSHED at places! Like MIST is treated like you'll keep coming back there for a while! But after the Building, once you head to Dryfield you never come back EVER! Feels like the game REALLY should have just had MORE then the Building at the start before heading to Dryfield (which felt like it was the MID-POINT! Seeing how SHORT it can be doesn't help) but at least replayablity was good! And once you get USE to the damn. I know SOME hated Ark because they were more HUMAN compared to Eve! But I do like how they ! Hated how they had no REAL representative really as a Story Villain! Your "Boss" doesn't really COUNT as anything but a double agent SPY! Kyle is more the ADA WONG IF SHE WAS LEON and Number 9 is a big bad wannabe to the EXTREME! But I did like how there WAS a reaction of the WORST KIND to Eve's actions in PE1 and the Book/Movie where she only INSPIRED a group of humans to do what she wanted to do, but with THEM in charge! The ANMC were interesting and it was a good design showing the difference between "Artificial" (what they made) and "Natural/Unnatural" (What Eve caused). I'll admit that I played PE2 BEFORE I played PE1! I saw others play PE1 but never got to play PE 1 till Ironically the Playstation 3 where I bought it and EVER RPG I missed on the PS1 as I kind of joined the RPG crazy LATE (FF7-FF9! Even though Pokemon R & B and Dragon Quest 3 on Game Boy Color were my "Firsts) so I only BARELY rented PE2 and HALF beat it before losing sight of it till the PS3 where I beat ALL of the PS1 RPG I always wanted to play! I play Parasite Eve 1 on occasion! But I play Parasite Eve 2 ALOT MORE as I prefer IT'S Style! The Fixed Camera CAN be bad at times (said by one who LOVED playing RE2 and 3 OG which I ALSO have on my PlayStation 3, that damn thing is INVINCIBLE! I can't play PS3 game on it anymore, but it's a FANCY PS1-2 emulator at least! Got it beat up two years before the PS4 came out! Had it for like FOREVER and it never dies! My PS4 which I got the 1TB standard when it first came out DIED on me in 2020, but the PS3, STILL great even after my niece when she was 5 and her brother my nephew 3 destroyed the CD driver by putting PENNIES in it when I wasn't watching them! Also I liked the story structure but then I prefer Conspiracy stuff like this and Front Mission 3 and 4 were then how PE1 followed WAY to close to the books and I enjoyed Eve Jr. An interesting twist of the Conspiracy getting Ada DNA and cloning a young her WITH her powers intact to make an "EVE" they can control better! It's sad that Third Birthday came out as it did! I was hoping it would be a combination of the first AND second games systems! But it became what RE5 was to me! Great video! It's funny, I love watching Parasite Eve videos but have never actually played the games. I hope you start getting more traction on UA-cam because this was great!
PE1 give a disgust feeling when PE2 give a classic horror feeling. I wouldn't call PE1 a jrpg really, i mean 15h is not what a jrpg takes, it's more a mix, a interesting one, and i'm curious as what were the reviews at the time, because that kind of game was never tried after, as far as i know. A notable thing is that each game get some good replayability, PE1 give you a very hard and grindy alternative ending, when PE2 give you multiple diffictulties to unlock, scoring and 2 path. As for me i would be in the PE2 team, way more simple and enjoyable, i must have done like 3 or 4 run in my life, while PE1 gave me so much discomfort, i felt relieved when i finished it as i was free at last from a dreading sensation following me through the game.. Even if some may say, it is the best compliment you could make to an horror game.
I agree with you! For all the HYPE I got about PE1 and HATE towards PE2 (I grew UP on PE2, PE1 I missed it) I do SEE the issues with PE2, but then again, it inspired me to play RE4 (my first Resident Evil game) and Dead Space which had the similar feel (especially NG+) and I did enjoy the replayablity (and I HATED how the ENDINGS for PE1 worked, I only did the BUILDING ONCE in PE1 to get to the ending and SAY I 100% But the Guns in this entry felt like they had their own Identities if you will! Each one I feel I could only use only that one the whole game and beat it! Where in PE1 the guns were not so UNIQUE and you find you HAVE NO CHOICE but to JUNK and combine them all into a PISTOL OR RIFLE MONSTER! I will say I did enjoy the combat system of PE1 of course and all my NG+ runs of PE1 ALWAYS go down the Standard route as the "True Ending" makes no sense and even PE2 goes off of the WEIRD standard ending which I take as the START of Aya's suspicion towards her powers and cells as hinted in PE2 for why she's "Depowered" in PE2 intro and has to get her powers "back" I mean after seeing THAT ending! I don't see it as everyone MIND CONTROLLED and more her fear she was turning into Eve! The entire GAME of PE2 felt like she was still DEALING with PTSD! Funny how that is how RE4 Remake also did! The story largely being Leon trying to make PEACE with his PTSD from the events of Resident evil 2 which I liked about RE4 Remake as a fan of the OG RE4 which was my FIRST Resident evil game) and I will agree with someone else! Characters in PE1 were FAR more rememberable (where in PE2, you only have Kyle and Eve Jr. That's about IT No 9 is too forgettable and half the time I had to REMEMBER everyone else! The black guy I couldn't forget being a BLUNT clone of Daniel, but after the INTRO building, he disappears for a good while and I forget him abit! Douglass the old man I remember alot. But yeah not that many memorable character in PE2!) Still doesn't change I like and prefer PE2 over PE1
Do you have some upscale filter on on here? Looks a lot better in the footage than what I would expect from a PS1 game. In other notes, not sure how your channel hasn't gotten popular yet, all your videos have a lot of research and production value, hopefully one day the algorithm will be kind.
Yeah, I upscaled it a bit in retroarch. I couldnt do much about the pre rendered stuff, but I think I got all the character models to look pretty darn great.
Woah! Let's leave the Ramen out of it! Its a fricken delicacy, yo! Besides, the brine in the Oceans low tide will suffice, not quite as salty but adequate! That said, good PE2 vid dive, for a OS great game! d>_0b
This is easily my least favorite of the three. It was a lot like Resident Evil that's the problem. Sure the Resident Evil games were fun but if they made a Resident Evil game with combat similar to Parasite Eve I in the PS1 era it would easily be my favorite pre 4 Resident Evil game
Definitely gave me more of a respect for PE2 but there’s just something about PE1’s unique combat and cast of characters like Daniel and Maeda that I resonate with more. (Not 3rd Birthday Maeda🤢)

PE2 gets unnecessary hate just because it feels like playing RE. Yeah and? Lol the game was still great! Love the story, characters, and gameplay.
I've only ever played through PE1 twice, but I've played through PE2 probably like 50 times trying to max out that in game shop lol
Yeah, the magic of PE2 lies in its replayability, especially bounty and nightmare modes are super fun
Omg I had the same experience as well. I replayed it so many times just to get the unique items & higher bounty points.
Great video! It's funny, I love watching Parasite Eve videos but have never actually played the games. I hope you start getting more traction on UA-cam because this was great!
thanks, i appreciate it
Dude it's free on your phone/PC right now go play them
Also the movie is free on UA-cam but it's a loose prequel to PE1

just found this video. Good stuff man. PE1 is overrated af
Definitely much more difficult than the first one, had my ass handed to me many times xD I feel ya on the turning being slow. *flirty kyle noises*
I could never even beat it it was so hard. Kyle seemed mainly just to be in the game for eye candy too. I found this version of Aya to be fairly ugly.
@@joemusashi7774 I found Aya from the first game to look way worse.

Can you do one on 3rd birthday ! Parasite eve 3 !
it’s definitely on my to-do list
The game was awful though. It took a survival horror franchine and turned it into an action game. Graphics were the only good thing about it
@@c.h.7580It was not "awful". People really need to stop using hyperbolic language unnecessarily...

PE 2 has a better gameplay,, but PE1 has better story and music
