PE2 is a story of a biological hazard outbreak that, If unchecked, may lead to chaos and initiate a dystopia. When I played this game in 2002, I knew I would specialize in genetics, and I did. Nicely detailed review! Keep up the amazing work!
Combine parsite eve 2 with resident evil 3 and set it in the lovecraftian universe of the 1920’s. Parasite powers are replaced by lore books boosting your magic abilities. Nemesis is replaced by a dimensional shambler or star spawn or something. Set the story in Arkham during the period of the short story “nyarlathotep” (read it). Eventually you can introduce resident evil online elements with team-based puzzles. Maybe even get fantasy flight games to use their arkham files-verse. Endless dlc for additional investigators. Replay mode switches out standard enemies with dlc ones. Different playthroughs as different characters changes the end game. M rated, well-acted, overarching stories with the boardgames and books. This was all i wanted from the world of nerdy entertainment. But for some reason 99% of the creators of “lovecraftian” entertainment either miss the mark completely, or hone in on one aspect but lack the budget to make it effective. The closest thing we have is bloodborne.
I enjoyed many things about this game, the details in this game, like the bishop golem turning invisible is based on Thermal Optics and theoretically possible. The notion of Controlled Evolution gone wrong, is great. I especially enjoy the good ending at the musaem with the model of the Triple Helix DNA.
This was a legitimately great game. PE1 was more of a tech demo, but this really was impressive. I really like RPGs that take place in the "real" world.
The second game is very much better, but the game does well in the way it definitely couldn't exist if it wasn't for the first game. It took ideas from the first game and built on them in a much more elaborate and artful way.
@@100Servings Mirror's edge is on the unreal engine, hardly a tech demo ad the engine was heavily documented and used then (even the cloth simulation on PC). Rage and doom 3 are full games in their own rights, with cutting edge tech for sure , but hardly tech demos. Half life 2 and hl alyx are tech demos, hl2 even inferior to stuff done before better. Crysis is borderline a tech demo, far cry and far cry 2 are tech demos. A "tech demo" game is a game with minimal content and structure only showing off a specific technology or set of technologies. That does not describe in any way parasite eve. While it was on new tech (the engine is the same that was used in ff7 and probably ff8/9), it is filled to the brim with content and gameplay structure. I mean, quake is on a new software, and is not a tech demo by itself (but it was an example of what the whole medium was going to be).
Excellent choice for a Halloween RECAPitation, and I'm glad that this one has finally hit the channel, as it is another unfinished game from my past. Refreshing myself with a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup and a cold, delicious Coca Cola, I salute your choice of RECAP, a worthy one to declare myself fully caught up on with this channel. Okay, fine. I noticed this one and it was too hard-hitting not to point it out. "Complete global saturation." Resident Evil 5. I'm now fully caught up, and hopefully I won't have to stumble again on the releases of future RECAPitations. I'll meet you on the next battlefield.
So many references to so many games. I loved it. I wish I knew how to get some of the endings. My favorite PE and I've played it a billion times and I STILL don't know how to get Jodi to show up or have Flint run around and rescue everyone.

The shock made Eve's power reawaken and she gains the ability to transfer herself into others. Her own body died when she transfered to Aya and she remained in Aya, but Aya herself died.
It definitely helped. I played it and never saw Pierce or the dog helping me in the missions. Also Baldwin being the model wasn't shown nor the ending with Kyle. Thanks for showing it all
PE2 is one of the best games of all time. Nostalgia, storytelling and atmosphere all in one package. I don’t care about the first game. PE2 did the right thing by mirroring RE.
I liked the 4-element "magic" system of PE2 better. The inventory system of 2 took a bit of getting used to, but for what it was, I liked it. I just wish they could have kept some of the weapon customization elements of 1. Maybe strictly have Jodie do it instead of just using Tools in the field (tweak the plot to bring her to Dryfield sooner), but the notion of rechambering something like a MAC-10 to use .410 shot shells hits the right mix of fantastical and plausibly realistic (even if not practical nor possible), and a fun weapon with useful attributes.
Nothing better to recover some MP than a can of ice cold Coca-Cola™. Also, nothing better to recover some game memories than with one of Oni's RECAPitations. ;)
You mentioned that golems other than No. 9 are at the Akropolis Tower, but they don't show up here on the first run. Is the nightmare run considered canon?
it is called 3rd birthday, only on the psp. i bought the psp just for that game back in the day. it further explores what happens to Aya and Eve in the future.
I realy love the mix of final fantasy rpg and the resident evil horror survial mixed with the retroperspective animation and the artstyle from late 90s.
Another game series that deserves a reboot. I remember never beating the game because of poor inventory management and having to completely restart. But i loved the whole "real time but pause to select spells" mechanic it had. I believe it was the first but i could be wrong. Def a 4/5 game imo
On my first playthrough, I got all the way to the final boss, and just couldn't manage movement in the provided arena. Tried again years later and made it. Reading some walkthrus online (which hadn't existed when first played, I have the Brady guide) helped.

This was a VERY fun game. I grabbed it and bought it because it was one of the few worthwhile new games on the shelves during 2000. At first it was a grand disappointment but I gave it a chance and it became a great game. Aya is ready for some SERIOUS CQ conflict, she's packin a Beretta 90 series model 93R!
I'm so glad I just recently played this. I'm not sure why but I never liked PE 2 but I LOVE PE 1. Playing it again as an adult landed MUCH better with me and so I can personally put these games on the top shelf. As always Oni, great work!
With the golems showing up before you entered Neo Ark, you must have been playing New Game Plus on one of the hard modes...that's not what I would consider the canonical storyline, first playthrough is.
Oh there is a third installment, but it has an absolutely bonkers storyline with no relation to the two previous games aside for the returning characters.

Honest truth: Though this PE installment was disappointing, there some good thingz I will say about it, the game's look is so PlayStation, the 2D art design is fantastic, the monster creatures look okay, and the story keeping it linked to the original was genius. 👍🏻

The golems are an element added in the new game + hard mode, they don't appear during the until the very end

I loved 1st PE and beated it about 5+ times but I never managed to beat PE2, I did not liked it for some reason, but your recap was a great watch =)
