The problem with all of the Blair Witch games is that the developers always insisted upon shoehorning in out of place action segments into the gameplay mechanics. It's always seemed painfully obvious to me what kind of genre of game would suit The Blair Witch and that's a point & click adventure game. It's not a coincidence that the most effective moments of the games which do exist are the moments where the player is exploring, interacting with characters and solving puzzles. Having the player use a handgun to shoot at literal giant stick figure monsters chasing you through the woods, or using a flashlight to scare away ghostly monsters is such a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material (much like the 2016 movie sequel). That's never what made The Blair Witch Project such a masterclass in horror (and it's also completely out of step with the established lore). @@ritsuwins but it didn’t start a trend of horror walking sims either, all those three games mentioned before are all horror, all PT did was start the trend of it only taking place inside a house, like visage for example, PT didn’t start trends it followed them, what stuck and made it stand out was the repetition cycle of the halls and the names attached to it and the fact that it was a teaser for silent hill, remove the last two and the game wouldn’t be that memorable, it would’ve been just another spook house.
I remember when I bought a Blair Witch deluxe DVD set when it first released that came bundled with a necklace of the stick figure and bundled with the 3 pc game's. Lucky for me I had a gaming pc at the time so I could enjoy them. I completely forgot about them till I saw your video. Now I want them again.
I was a huge fuckn Blair witch fan when it came out, I was one of those people who fell for the whole found footage thing they were marketing I have the comics, the novels, all 3 movies, and I was really into the old school PC games, and I have the Blairwitch trading cards Hecaitomix is the real entity and Elly kedward was just the scapegoat
I only got to play the first two games. Good stuff. I found a bug at the end of the game where you have to carry a child. I reloaded a save while trying to beat the area and the main character started carrying the kid like a gun.
You're either desentitized or you've rushed through them. You didn't even mention getting to Rustin Parr in the first game, or the time travel sub-plot that shows the characters of the original movie.
Nocturne and Rustin Parr have some amazing tech in them. The lighting, cloth physics, character models and environmental design are great. I do know they were super demanding when they came out, though.
I picked up this trilogy in the year 2000, for $20. I finished them all; unfortunately, getting them to run on modern hardware is not an easy thing to do. If you approach them as a grindhouse time thing--they're good.
I know, right!?? I've been trying to get the games working for years now-- I just need to figure out the last one in the trilogy! It's so frustrating. All these nostalgic early 00's games are such a pain in the bum to install. And it's such a shame, because I've got dozens and dozens of them that I've collected over the years!! I should just try finding some old rotting PC with Windows 2000 installed. T~T This is why GOG etc. is useful, but even that can be a pain. Hate re-purchasing games. >:
I had no idea there were other games. And I'm one of the few that not only knows about the Blair Witch Files books but owns all of them. To further display my weirdness, I am one of those that was disappointed in the movie. Yes it was boring but that could have forgiven that if halfway through they gave us more lore and something more than literal stick figures. If anyone likes what little lore that was set up in the movie I suggest tracking down the Blair Witch File books The Witches Daughter and The Dark Room. Those two have the most connection to the movies as they explore Rustin Parr's involvement with the Blair Witch. The rest of the books are young adult supernatural themed X-Files type of stories. All of the books focuses on Cade, cousin of Heather, one of the victims from the movies. He is determined to uncover the Blair Witch mystery after Heather goes missing so he sets up a website called the Blair Witch Files and gets cases through it to investigate. They are short books and worth the read if you can get them cheap oR find pdfs of them. I may have to track down these games and give them a try. As disappointed as I was in the movie I like the lore of the IP. If they had focused on that in the first movie instead of trying (and failing) TO being creepy, it would have been great. I still think that if they had made The Blair Witch Files into a TV series back then instead of making the second movie the franchise would have been remembered well. 15:05 Yeah, definitely tracking these Raven Soft made my favorite Wolfenstein game and I loved the original Prey.
I love this game! This and BloodRayne, I played a lot back then. I always loved the og Blair Witch and even the 2016 movie despite being bad had a good lore. Back in 99 we fell so bad to that website haha and the game ties so good with the info found there. Idk how I found this video but I appreciate you going all the way you went to make this vid, take care!
Don't know why no one talks about them but I played Nocturne and all the other Blair Witch games made with the same engine back in the day. I love the atmosphere of the Nocturne Engine games, really gave me the creeps when I was young. Good times.
Hilariously enough, I got a 30 second video in my recommendations about a Twin Peaks Easter egg in a Blair Witch game, and I was like I’ve never heard of this, so here I am lol.
So that's where Call of Duty came up with their concept of Call of Duty Zombies regarding the spirits that constantly spawn causing you to play "Ring Around the Rosie" with them. 12:21 Basically the same concept as COD Zombies. I know that I'm comparing Apples to Oranges folks.

BRO, you unlocked memories for me tonight with these games. I remember thinking Doc Holliday was so cool as a kid, and when it cuts to the (ridiculous) cut scene of her sitting on the couch like that and tapping her toes, at 10:55, ten year old me thought she was soooo cool. Jesus, how cringe.
Yeah I remember I had that old Blair Witch game it was the Volume iii one and I lent it to my friend and I never got it back. I remember about it because I never passed it. I’m going to have to try and find all 3 now and start from vol i.
Can't lie, I loved _The Blair Witch Project: Rustin Parr._ It was one of the first PC games that I purchased for myself as a kiddo. The things that really got under my skin were the daemites in the very beginning. Mind you, I was only about eleven years old when I experienced it, and it scared me so badly that I couldn't muster the courage to play it for months afterwards. Even the installation loading screens spooked me, with those big ugly _Evil Dead_ monsters. Daemites legit gave me nightmares. Still! I persevered! The atmosphere was excellent, puzzles were satisfying, lore was _fascinating!_ And I really loved the fake-out murder segments. Except for that one chasing part where you have to bonk the d00d with a shovel-- that was terribly annoying with the game's wonky controls. And I remember feeling such a deep dread every time I saw that inverted loading screen in the woods. I hated being there, constantly lost, basically guessing where to go, wandering in circles. It was dreadful. The game definitely has its flaws, namely with its combat. But just the fun of a noir paranormal investigation was super cool. It made a big impact on me. Nev Ur Given!

The akward jacket floating and the spinning are fps related issues. The games are meant to run at 30 fps, so this is what happens when you run them at 60 or higher.
I thought the spade Doc was carrying around in that final boss encounter was a broom and I was wondering if she was about to go dusting the cobwebs off the farmhouse until the part where she swings it at the dude in dark clothing and you hear a loud metallic THWACK! resulting from his cranium meeting the spade head. 😏
played one of the games (the coffin rock one) around the time it was released. I found it pretty cool back than and, since I was younger, I got creeped out by that forest part with the crying or laughing babies. played through the game a few years ago and... it wasn't bad but not so good, imo. tryed to play one of the other games but never really got into them
I wonder you know the devs were "Thirsty" too... there's alot of hidden naughty easter eggs in all 3 games.... If I made horror game, I would Aim for Clive Barker's Undying gameplay and themes and the Blair Witch rustin parr settings, and the 'Witch Hunt' on steam gameplay.
So... I was truly disturbed watching the Blair Witch project in the theater the first time. It boss me now. I like the 2nd movie for re-watching the most.
I bought the old ones brand new for PC on release and still have them, never played. They were in a box set with the first two films on DVD, plus a necklace. I wonder if they even run on modern systems.
I remember getting this trilogy, probably around the time of release, but also around the time I realised the game store would refund me any game I'd purchased so I could buy new ones if I wasn't 100% sure I liked them
Keep going bro make more super obscure reviews like grimbeard. The closest I ever got to a Blair witch type game is probably devour it feels like you are out in the woods with your friends avoiding a super scary witch
I'm pretty sure Rustin Parr (and Nocturne, and Bloodrayne 1 that followed) were made in such way that some processes, like cloth physics and certain animations, run on CPU speed rather than real time. So running those on modern PCs break a lot. I don't remember it being that glitchy.
I actually really liked this 2019 blair witch game i never played any of the other blair witch games but after what i saw i know for a fact that i wouldn't like the older games nearly as much as i liked the 2019 blair witch game and i love the blair witch movies as well my favorite is blair witch book of shadows second i like the blair witch project original movie and 3rd i do like the newest blair witch movie but not nearly as much as the book of shadows and the original I know im in the minority of this opinion but I don't care i like what i like and if people agree with me that's fine and if they don't than f them lol just kidding if they don’t like what i like that's their own choice. I don't know why people get so upset just because people just so happened to like different things 😊
I completed "Blair Witch" & I would agree that it's not very exciting. However you do eventually get to the house from the original movie & it's a nice digital re-creation. It's been a while since I played it but I seem to recall a lot of running around in that house & it was a bit confusing. But I'd still say the game should be played if you're a gamer & a fan of the movies. As for new music, I recently discovered Kim Lightyear while playing "Arcade Paradise" & I'm currently hooked on the song "Night Runner".
I owned and played Vol1 on the PC when I was a teenager , I loved it but remember getting STUCK quite alot...with no Google or UA-cam to just find the solution! The way these games should be played tho imo.
This vid just popped up in my recommendations. I've owned the original BW games since they came out, back in the day, and it always bothered me when the newest game got labelled as "The first Blair Witch game" The originals were janky AF, but they had a lot more charm to them than Bloober's attempt.
I really liked the vr version, but I felt the final chapter overstayed it's welcome. On one hand it was cool to see the house, but on the other, it's a snoozefest by the 3rd time going through it.

@@cloudfoxdie Imo its a thin line, and really depends on who you ask about it, but I see your point.
Just wanted to point out that saying that walking sims started with PT is really odd
i never said pt was the first walking sim. i said it started a tread of horror walking sims. horror being the keyword. which it did.
I was a huge fuckn Blair witch fan when it came out, I was one of those people who fell for the whole found footage thing they were marketing
I have the comics, the novels, all 3 movies, and I was really into the old school PC games, and I have the Blairwitch trading cards
Hecaitomix is the real entity and Elly kedward was just the scapegoat
there were blair witch trading cards?!?!?! time to go on a google adventure!
@@ritsuwins
😂 I found it on Amazon, it’s kinda cool, I personally like them just because I’m a huge fan
I only got to play the first two games. Good stuff.
I found a bug at the end of the game where you have to carry a child. I reloaded a save while trying to beat the area and the main character started carrying the kid like a gun.
lmao i wish that happened to me instead
You're either desentitized or you've rushed through them. You didn't even mention getting to Rustin Parr in the first game, or the time travel sub-plot that shows the characters of the original movie.
Rustin Parr was AMAZING. I was hoping you were going to tell me about a sequel that I somehow hadn't heard of.
I talk about Nocturne and Rustin Parr all the time, they are on my list of games which could be good as remakes.
Nocturne and Rustin Parr have some amazing tech in them. The lighting, cloth physics, character models and environmental design are great. I do know they were super demanding when they came out, though.
That would be awesome I would love to see a blair witch remake
I love Rustin Parr so much. Fond memories
The fact you referenced the Great Mighty Poo boss fight earned you a sub.
Great videos, have no idea why I am barely now having you put in my recommended. You deserve way more subs and views!
I loved these games! I was happy when I saw Nocturne Characters in the first game, and when I saw Nocturne references in Bloodrayne.
I totally forgot about Bloodrayne.
My dick certainly hasn't...... that Gameinformer magazine is BURNT into my brain.
I didn’t even know it was a trilogy. Thanks for this!
Book of Shadows, best Blair Witch.
Old games like these had better soul and atmosphere.
FINALLY!! SOMEONE OTHER THEN ME IS TALKING ABOUT THIS. My dad got these back in the day when he bought blair witch 1&2
That's what I have with the pewter stickman necklace. 6 bucks at gamestop back then.
I don't remember when exactly (80's), but I bought all 3 games wrapped together for $10.00 at a Big Lot store in Michigan. I still have all 3 to this day 2022, but haven't played in some time as I've not used anything with a disk drive in years. But I remember having alot of fun playing this! Thanks for the memory.
That "Strength Talisman" was extra strong
The first Blair Witch game was great. Loved how we got a little more time to spend with the Spookhouse crew. That ending cameo with Stranger was awesome!
Ritual also made a wonderful game called “SiN” that game out in 1998.
I just blurt laughed at the end of the third game. Best bug ever.
Subbed immediately. Currently watching your Raw Danger review. Pre-1k whoo!
Your channel's definitely gonna grow. Your videos are very well made and thought/scripted out!
Saw my sister playing vol 1 in my young childhood. The zombies scared me cause the way they moved 😂 then we found the cheat codes and made things easy
I played the Blair Witch game on Xbox and was able to get all achievements, it is not has frustrating as you say and it is actually scary sometimes, the forest is very well done and great atmosphere, even having to replay it several times for the achievements I never got tired of it
im glad you enjoyed it more than i did :)
You were definitely dealing with A LOT of glitches from forcing it to run on your version of windows. The graphics when ti came out especially things like that glowing fabric were big deals back then. Ive also never personally had that many enemies just continually spawn for me
keep up the great work you have a fantastic channel and defiantly deserve a lot more subs.
"16:54" My dude, you're not playing a modern gen game, these games were really spooky back in the day. The whole PC trilogy. They were broken at times and we noticed it.but we never really cared because we were spooked out of our asses. Specially with the BW trilogy on PC. That shit was creepy, specially the Sound effects and overall atmosphere... You're being a bit harsh on these games.
Vol 1 and 3 are amazing but 2 is just ehh like he said in the video it’s kinda boring but the other 2 yeah he’s definitely not thinking of it’s time period hell they’re still fun to play to this day Imo
I got this in a collector set of both movies. Need to play it at some point.
To be fair, I’ve been a gamer since the late 90s, and I just learned that these games existed 2 weeks ago.
the best way to play that trilogy of games, is actually the reverse order from 3 to 1.
Dude! Nocturne was awesome and the Blair witch prequel was badass
I liked the 2nd movie better than the first one. Fight me.
😮
@@ritsuwins lol not you necessarily, just in general :)
i know lmao
Weird how people hate walking simulators so much but at the same time everybody loves P.T and all you do in that game is to walk around.
People say that walking simulators are not scary but at the same people say that P.T is one of the scariest games of all time.
Yung Junanji on the beat tell ‘em like it is. TRANSITION: killer. Yuh. Keep it up boyo, you Bussin these critics. RIGHT IN THA SKULL AROOOOOOO! CRANK EM HOGS
- MATTRIM SMOKES
I love the g4 game awards smt nocturne commercial reference
It threw me off at first until I remembered that skit LOL
Dont talk about yourself like that you're amazing and a great narrator/gamer. You have nailed both perfectly. However I will still give your friend a follow! Billob
I found it pretty cool back than and, since I was younger, I got creeped out by that forest part with the crying or laughing babies.
played through the game a few years ago and... it wasn't bad but not so good, imo.
tryed to play one of the other games but never really got into them
"she does this spinning thing" maybe that's just ritual before talking to strangers
"13 years old sense of humor" LOL XD just sub
maybe i should start spinning before i talk to people 🤔
I wonder you know the devs were "Thirsty" too...
there's alot of hidden naughty easter eggs in all 3 games....
If I made horror game, I would Aim for
Clive Barker's Undying gameplay and themes
and the Blair Witch rustin parr settings,
and the 'Witch Hunt' on steam gameplay.
I have the Nocturne PC game. It looks and plays a lot like this game. Looks like I probably would've liked this game too.
Good video. Dont know why this was recommended but I loved it
So... I was truly disturbed watching the Blair Witch project in the theater the first time. It boss me now. I like the 2nd movie for re-watching the most.
grimbeard talked about it. but i guess he'd be the first to say that he does constitute 'no one'
I bought the old ones brand new for PC on release and still have them, never played. They were in a box set with the first two films on DVD, plus a necklace. I wonder if they even run on modern systems.
Great reviews! You earned a subb! I remember playing V1 way back, I too got frustrated
802 subs? You deserve More ,Great vid
I still have the disk for Blair Witch 3.
im jelly! physical copies of all three would look splendid next to my probably too many copies of the blair witch project lmao
I definitely share the 13th year old humor with you. Awesome review!
It seems you have been blessed by the algorithm. Good! This was an enthralling watch. It's interesting to hear about things that predate me.
yep, seems like it’s in a blessing mood these last couple of days
I wish these games would be reformatted, I would love to play them.
I remember getting this trilogy, probably around the time of release, but also around the time I realised the game store would refund me any game I'd purchased so I could buy new ones if I wasn't 100% sure I liked them
I loved the Rustin Parr one. I played it through a few times.
WHERE WAS KINGDOM HEARTS DURING HURRICANE KATRINA??
god, I love that ad so much
THE GAME BREAKING GLITCH FUCKING KILLED ME KJFHOUIH
I loved the blair witch game where you played doc holliday that one is awesome
I completed "Blair Witch" & I would agree that it's not very exciting. However you do eventually get to the house from the original movie & it's a nice digital re-creation. It's been a while since I played it but I seem to recall a lot of running around in that house & it was a bit confusing. But I'd still say the game should be played if you're a gamer & a fan of the movies. As for new music, I recently discovered Kim Lightyear while playing "Arcade Paradise" & I'm currently hooked on the song "Night Runner".
That's how I feel about alone in the dark 4
the thumbnail Is adorable

You ever want to volunteer to write at the Grimoire of Horror, lemme know. I love these takes on old games!
I've had these 3 games since 04 maybe 05.
Never played them once 😂
I owned and played Vol1 on the PC when I was a teenager , I loved it but remember getting STUCK quite alot...with no Google or UA-cam to just find the solution! The way these games should be played tho imo.
LMAO the glitch at the end of volume 3
This vid just popped up in my recommendations.
I've owned the original BW games since they came out, back in the day, and it always bothered me when the newest game got labelled as "The first Blair Witch game"
The originals were janky AF, but they had a lot more charm to them than Bloober's attempt.
I really liked the vr version, but I felt the final chapter overstayed it's welcome. On one hand it was cool to see the house, but on the other, it's a snoozefest by the 3rd time going through it.
