I began my keyboard-drenched existence around Christmas 1982. I was in the local music store, shopping for bass guitar strings... when I noticed a little keyboard. I was 19, and had always wanted to play keyboards; however it looked like money would prevent this. However when I saw that little keyboard, I ran home and got the necessary cash. The keyboard was a Casio MT-40; the Sleng-Teng theng! You can probably find one now at a garage sale, for $7 or so... but I paid $160 for it, and this was the start... a couple months later I bought an MT-70... about 3 years later I bought my first Hammond (an M-102; a few months after that, a Leslie 760). These days I often think about that Casio MT-40... then, look at the CTx5000. Wow, has there ever been some evolution! I play a Hammond XK5 and various synths - and that Casio started me off...!
That's great and it brings back memories. The first portable keyboard I bought was a Casio MT-6?, can't remember the exact model. Next up was a Casio CZ-101. I used to play Guitar and Bass, but I always loved playing the piano more, then the keyboards came out, were more affordable, then MIDI was added, and I went straight back to keys again. I still have all those keyboards, even the Casio MT is in storage. Looking at what we had to play back in the early days, and look how far the keyboards have evolved!
I just bought mine last week. Or should I say two weeks ago. I can’t wait until my sister brings that keyboard over. The instruments on the keyboard is phenomenal.
@@johnsmithkeysareme well, I’m no Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, or even Liberace. I can play a little bit by ear. And plus, I had music lessons when I was going to school. And yes, I will be enjoying playing my keyboard. I’m planning to get the CTX 3000 eventually. Maybe before Christmas this year. But that one is really popular because it takes batteries and they always sell out.
