I have tried many, many times to do something with the front side of the screen but was never able to do anything with it. The backside worked because it is fairly flat and doesn't cause collision issues. The existing structure below the apartments could be used for additional living space too. Thank you - glad you like it!
@@cryingcube2 I wanted a guard house there, with guards on top, and bunks in the room, but the guards all stand on the restrooms on the front of the pavement. I have a stupid set of npcs.
The NPCs are known to have pathing issues in this game and they might not be able to walk in the storage room by the street? However, I like your design idea for that area!
@@cryingcube2 Thank you. Yep, the apartments were next to the drivein, and faced the screen where I shot off fireworks.ha Pathing is an issue for sure.
I've been with this game since day one. Ive got thousands of hours in; and never really tooled around with the scaffolding. Thought i was finally done with this game and now i gotta boot it back up. I blame you. Great job.
o m g! 😱😵💫 that is awesome! i think thats my next project! 😂 ive always wondered how to do that and tbh never tried as i thought it wouldnt work... im glad you proved me wrong! you could have added a floor above the roof and all round for security (although that would ruin the feel i think!) either way, excellent! 😁 also im now a fan of scaffolding as i rarely ever use it!
Thank you! I hope that you will give it a try! I really like your idea of adding another floor - not sure if there is a way to line it up with the balcony on top but that would make an excellent security post! Glad that the video has inspired you for your Starlight build ☺️
Wow. What a wonderful idea to build on the backside. I never thought of it. Congrats. I was able to replicate your method to the letter, except for a few aesthetic changes to customize my new apartments. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you! It took me countless failures trying to do something similar on the other side before I got the idea to build on the back side. I'm glad that you gave it a try and happy that you customized it to your liking. One tip that I discovered after I built this - if you used the scaffolding stairs and your settlers won't use them - swap them out for the long shack stairs (the one without the platform attached). They should use those stairs.
Again. Well done and inspiring. I feel bad for copying your design but it looks so cool. I’ve been playing for years and nice to see newer stuff, thanks.
Thank you! Please - copy anything that you want. As you experiment with it in your settlement, you can put your own touches on it, change it to meet your needs, or use similar design concepts in other settlements. I think it is fun to change things up and see how a settlement can evolve over time.
Well thought out and explained. Excellent use of the supplied parts and no mods or glitches. It has been years since I have played unmodded and though I am not sorry to have switched to mods I am nostalgic for building with just the basics. Great job. I look forward to watching more of your videos :)
Thank you! Until very recently, I only played the game modded. Over the years, I've been amazed at some of the settlements that I've seen that have been done without mods. So - I thought I'd give it a try. It's definitely challenging but I'm really enjoying it!
Nice build idea. Well done. I've built on the front of the screen on the past, never thought to build apartments on the back side. On the front, in a recent playthrough, I used scaffolding but instead of building up I used rows of train car pieces to make the apartments, all with those train car sliding doors, and walkways in between. Ended up looking like a cool junky "city" of multi-leveled train cars. Hard to build up on that side because of the curve and the wrecked bits sticking out. In another playthrough from years back I actually built myself a player mansion right on top of the screen. Fun build, but in the end it would have probably gotten blown off in a high wind. lol For the existing rooms on the back side I've often just stuck the generator into the long storage room. Now I think it would serve nicely to power the apartments as well.
Thank you and thanks for sharing your ideas - I love your ideas for the screen side! The train car idea is particularly relevant to Starlight because of the rail tracks that run nearby. I never thought about a player home on the top of the screen but that is a good idea - I don't know if the NPCs can path to the top of the screen so you would have the place all to yourself. I got frustrated with the screen side because of the curve and all of the bent metal that caused collision issues so that is why I tried the other side. With this character, I made the existing center room into a manager office/apartment and the side room into a bathroom, but I like the idea of using it for a mechanical room too.
Thanks! The tips on getting the stairs/rails etc. to snap in are gold. I might to this, but using Warehouse instead of Barn because I like all the window options. Great work!
Thank you! The build order to get everything to snap together is frustrating in this game - glad that tip helped. I agree with you on the window options with the warehouse set - as an alternative you could also use the 1/2 barn or warehouse wall on the bottom with the 1/2 greenhouse glass wall on the top.
Sorry to hear that! Over the past few weeks, I've spent a fair amount of time in Starlight Drive-in and made a few observations that might help. After building, make sure that you fast travel or travel a very far distance from Starlight a few times to allow the cell to reset. This can sometimes help settlers find their beds. I have noticed that it takes most of my settlers until around 4 am to finally walk to the apartments (although a few make it much earlier). The can path to the back of the screen but it seems to take a long time for them to get there. If you find that the settlers are all gathered at the bottom to the steps on the front (right side facing the apartments), replace the scaffolding stairs with the wide wood shack stairs from the vanilla shack building tiles. I found that the settlers will easily use the shack stairs but seem to get stuck on the scaffolding stairs. I don't know why - I generally find that settlers like the scaffolding stairs and that is why I like to use them. Sorry for the frustration - hope one of these ideas help!
You've peaked my interest. Subbed. Id really like a few fully finished and decorated tours. Never built on the back. Didn't think there was enough room. Id be interested in your full use of the settlement. And commentary behind your reasoning. Keep it up.
Thank you and welcome! I've had a few requests for decorated tours of Starlight. I'm currently finishing it with my no mods character and plan to do a decorated tour soon. Thanks for the suggestions on the tour too - it is helpful to gauge what viewers want to see.
Have just build a giant glass mega-structure on the other-side but was forced to build a wee alley way against the front. Was worried building so close to boundary but looks fantastic and has definitely inspired me to use more barn tiles in my builds.
Oh wow! Thank you, glad this worked for your settlement. To be honest, I don't like the red color of the barn tiles (a more neutral brown color would work better IMO) but they work well for some builds. This whole structure could be built with the warehouse instead of the barn tiles but it looks better with the barn tiles.
An original use of an area that is awesome often overlooked, a building style that seems to mostly fit in with the setting... Very well done. The only suggestion that I would make, in order to better blend in with the Commonwealth, would be to try alternating different walls & fences
Thank you! Great suggestion too - it would be easy enough to swap out some of the solid barn walls with wall with holes or even add some warehouse walls. There is a variety of railings that could be used instead using the same railing. That would give it a scrappier Commonwealth look.
Thank you! I also appreciate your feedback on the music - although the You Tube audio library has a lot of choices - it's difficult to find something for this type of video.
