Sounds about right. Going to my second PJ in Sept for Philly - I grabbed two tickets for the one PJ show for myself and my sister. I got into the Pre-Sale queue and watching really expensive pit tickets get snatched up in a flash. I got lucky with the seats and happy to not be in the ceiling. But I was fighting for my life in that queue lol.
For my sisters birthday in 2022, we drove up to Canada to see PJ because it was honestly cheaper to see them in Canada rather than New Jersey. Great show too.
Also, fuck Ticketmaster.
i think i've reached the end of my enjoyment of going to large rock shows. the ticket prices, the claustrophobic crowds, it's just not natural. support your local bands, everyone. it's way cheaper and you'll probably have a lot more fun.

Beyond his mastery at audio engineering, Steve Albini just seemed like a cool, down-to-earth guy. He wouldn't take royalties for record he produced and he charged the same day rate for all bands no matter how popular the were. It's been really cool and touching seeing all the personal stories from people who had met him. A truly sad loss
fun fact: if I wanted to see red vox live (say, this next TooManyGames) it would be way, way more expensive than that.

crazy how tickets used to be like 5$ in the 70s, how did we go so wrong???? It's the huge benefit to seeing smaller indie artists, still makes me sad tho when I have to miss out on a big band that I'd love to see
CBC did a really good exposé on a convention Ticketmaster was holding in Vegas exclusively for it's scalpers. They have a whole secret program.

I got very lucky and managed to see some concerts that I really wanted to, for what we felt were reasonable enough prices to buy them, for decent enough seats to be worth it. I saw Queen+Adam Lambert twice (Queen is my #1 favorite band) for $125 ticket, on the floor close enough to see their faces when they came out on the catwalk. I saw The Rolling Stones in 2019 (final tour with Charlie before his passing) for the same price, down in the field all the way in the back section but we could at least see something. Then we saw The Who in 2022 for $100 tickets down by the mixing board. The thing is though, I had to go on ahead of time and wait in the queue to look for tickets the MOMENT they went live. They sold very quickly and then got to the crazy prices of course. So I got very lucky and I HAD to be ready to get them RIGHT AWAY. And of course Ticketmaster charges extra "convenience" fees, simply for existing and forcing you to use them because there's not really any other good option. So yeah, Ticketmaster absolutely SUCKS and I've seen the concerts I most wanted to see, I'm done for the foreseeable future.
And rock photography is a big interest of mine (I have photo books from Mick Rock, Lynn Goldsmith, Neal Preston, etc.) so these concerts gave me the chance to take some rock star pics of my own. My camera does not have an interchangeable lens, so it fit the venue rules and I was able to bring it in! Since it has 40x optical zoom, I managed to get some really cool shots that I am really proud of! My favorite is one that I got of Mick Jagger out on the catwalk where the focus and lighting somehow just worked perfectly and I love how it looks

Steve was involved with so many bands it's crazy- Nirvana, Pixies, Slint, Jesus Lizard, Brainiac, even Peter Sotos for some reason. His own bands were also awesome. He will be greatly missed.

I love nirvana, pixies, shellac and jesus lizard but if you guys didnt know steve was a pedo, he was a friend of peter sotos (which is also a pedo) which made pure magazine, a "cheese pizza" magazine if you know what i mean, which is the thing that got him locked up, and in this magazine steve was interviewed and he said that he like the contents of the magazine.

Also Peter Sotos never went to jail. Whether or not you agree with what he’s doing with his music and his books - trying to explore the depths of human depravity - neither you or I have any idea about his actual inclinations.

also a mans death as sad as it may be does not make criticism invalid or erases his past actions, bringing those to light its not disgusting, now if you want to separate the artist from the art i get you, i still will listen to nirvana, shellac, jesus lizard and pixies and his work is still amazing

I was never big on Albini's style of music as either a player or a producer, nor was I fond of the anti-digital audio drum that he beat throughout his career, but from what I've read on the guy, he definitely knew how to get the best out of the people that he worked with and genuinely cared about protecting the personal and artistic integrity of musicians (which is especially important considering how predatory and unregulated the music industry is, moreso than other forms of media).

Man I'm so glad that i don't like concerts, never did and never will. That amount of money is 3 months of minimum wage. Absolutely insane what people pay to feel part of something.
Ticket Master using actual scalpers for resell is insane, like they have chat groups to coordinate the sales before official release dates.
