Yeah, SE has insane standards for FF sales expectations. Budget probably was mismanaged too, IIRC.
The problem is that people don't own PS5s. it took like 3 years into its lifespan until anyone could get one and at that point nobody cared anymore.
FFXVI, whose producer is Yoshi P, is also the project lead of FFXIV and the guy who saved that MMO.
So with the majority of his fanbase playing on PC, why did Square Enix think it was a good idea to make FFXVI a PS5 exclusive? FFXVI should've been multiplatform day one or at least a PC release same day.
Sony and possibly SE knew for a long time that FF is their golden goose when it came to main number titles, despite the evidence that it is no longer the case anymore. They simply wanted more PS5s off the shelves.
Well, as someone who has been paying attention to the social economic landscape, it's not realistic for people to think even these games to convince us to dump half a grand for ps5s when many are struggling. Not to mention that Square's unrealistic sales expectations is quite self-destructive.

It's called an exclusivity deal.
Console companies are still in denial.
Exclusivity deals are a pain for publishers, so console manufacturers help by paying them for exclusivity and also sometimes helping them out with stuff like dev work and marketing.
Doesn't always work well as Street Fighter V was PS4 only for consoles (was also on PC, but Xbox was deliberately ditched) and was viewed as being garbage when compared to other SF games. SFV's sales figures were considered top 10 of all time for Capcom, but that's due to the fact that they count different versions of the same game as separate games (SF2 is different from SSF2, for example) while SFV just sold one version and had their later "versions" be the base version + code voucher with all DLC at the time. You could also claim that exclusivity hurt Soulcalibur a ton as the series never had a single game sell as many copies as Soulcalibur II (4m+) once Soulcalibur III was made as a PS2 exclusive.
I think Square Enix made the right move with ditching exclusivity, however. Capcom started doing a TON better when they exited their Sony exclusivity deals with their games. Exclusivity only really works well for 1st party titles (hence why Nintendo sells gangbusters for consoles as their games aren't found anywhere else legally).
I just commented the other day on another extra sauce video that I would like to see Vinny play FFX, hope this news on Square is a step into that. (But I'm not gonna get my hopes up too much)

I think this is the best move more Square, more platforms, more players, it's a win-win. And I'd rather have them blaming the exclusivity deals than blaming the developers behind the Remake project.

There is a secret music video in Nier Automata that disables the recording/share function on PS4. If I find a way to record it I wonder if Square Enix will send an assassin death squad to my house.
You could do a capture card. If HDCP is an issue and you can't disable it, you COULD get an HDMI splitter that strips it (assuming video still works after, however).
I hope that if there really was a FF9 remake in the works like the rumours suggest, that they didn’t scrap it because of all this

@@at0micl0bster oh c’mon man. Bait used to be believable. But in case you’re not baiting, FF7 remake did great with the character moments above all else, and since FF9 is driven by its characters more than any other FF (in my opinion) I think they could do it justice
@@captainpep3Character moments in Remake and Rebirth were good, but the whole timeline/multiverse/Whisper shenanigans did turn off a bunch of people. Some people think that if another game got remade, then the chosen game would have extra unnecessary stuff added to them. For example, say they remade FF9 but then added the twists that Garnet was actually Garland's long lost daughter the whole time and Vivi actually houses the light half of Emperor Mateus' soul after it got defeated in Dawn of Souls as a means of purifying it (or something stupid like that).
I liked the new FF7 titles, but I can see why people can be wary of the new games as they probably just expected them to be in-depth remakes of the original game with 1:1 story beats. Nobody expected the Whispers back in 2020.
@@theonewhowrotethis5681 to be fair, I doubt they’d go in that direction with 9 just because of the kind of game 9 is as a whole regardless, even though I don’t love the plot ghost stuff in remake/rebirth, those are only in specific moments in those games (especially at the end) where the main stuff is done mostly really well, with a few gripes I and many others have. Even if they did something weird with 9’s story to “surprise” players, I imagine they’d do the main important stuff well
Narrow-sighted? Vinny, exclusivity is never a good thing for the customer. Remember that.

last I checked, every time a game went epic exclusive, it ends up failing, even if it was a good game. PS5 exclusives eventually just come to PC now, and xbox fans never get to play them which is a net negative. Xbox exclusives are going to be a thing of the past now, at least, and most of them are trash if im being honest, so competition did nothing there for us getting good games, unless you count starfield lmao. Nintendo's exclusivity does absolutely nothing for anyone, other than lock good games on a console that is weaker than a new iPhone. Its literally considered ethically correct to pirate Nintendo games. How is that beneficial to Nintendo or the consumer.

Am I reading him wrong, or did Vinny seem a tiny bit salty over the Square Enix news? I was expecting him to be like, "Yeah, it's great that more people will get to experience these games at the same time," but instead, I hear him say how's it's "narrow sighted" and "annoying" because you buy a PS5 to play them earlier. And "we'll see if its a successful pivot", like of course releasing their games simultaneously will no doubt work for them, right??? PS5 only is not cutting it anymore.

I play on PC and know their exclusives are no longer a thing, so I can wait a year, but some people don't want to risk seeing spoilers that long.
Final Fantasy 1 to Final Fantasy 10 is the real Final Fantasy to me.
Yeah, hasn't been a great one since 10. 12 was okay, but it didn't leave a huge impression on me. 13-16 have been a dumpster fire, and it's clearly just a revolving door of people in management who don't understand why the franchise was ever popular. It's crazy that the same company made Dragon Quest 11, but makes a confusing mess out of their flagship IP. Even the 7 remake games don't appeal to me at all, they feel totally off and I hate a lot of the decisions they made with them, not even getting into the story. I don't know what they think their strategy is, but the most they've managed to do is alienate a lot of old fans, and make mediocre, divisive games.
ff11 has some of the best stories in the franchise and it's only competition is ff14... and many will never find out cause EW mmo or EW old mmo (11 is pretty jank tho)
@@at0micl0bsterI imagine they're great games, but I don't do subscriptions. I'd rather pay once and be done for games (besides an occasional DLC). I'll definitely play the snot out of offline versions of both (and DQ 10) if they're ever made for US audiences, however.
