Wait, so is sonic canon just people's opinion? Nothing is confirmed? I actually like that better then a definitive canon so everyone doesn't get butthurt.
I have a theory on Sonic '06. Is the game canon? the answer to that is yes and no. While yes, the STORY of the game was erased from the timeline (and for the better of the franchise) and never mentioned or brought up again, not EVERYTHING was forgotten. Crisis City is just a remnant of what Sonic remembers from the events of '06. Meanwhile, NOT EVERY character forgot the events of '06, and Blaze seems to be the only character who remembers all of the events VERY well. Why she never brings them up? My guess is she WANTS to forget, she NEVER wants to think about those events, but they haunt her like a nightmare that never ends... even when you wake up.
I remember hearing a statement that says something like: only a few select people remember that '06 happened, more or less. They listed Eggman and Sonic, but I also think it's safe to say Shadow and Blaze remember too. And in Colors DS, Silver gets a feeling that he's worked with Blaze before.
Also, speaking of Generations, missed chance with the Rival battle set up against Silver. I thought of this last night and how I'd have it set up (Since I care about a good story in a Sonic game) : Sonic and Tails are looking over Crisis City and Sonic says to Tails that "This feels like a distant memory that I remember coming to." Tails says some dialog that he doesn't even remember being here at all (based on the list of characters Gaming Sensei said) after some talk, Tails sees Silver flying at high speeds towards them, alerts Sonic and they both get out of the way of Silver's psychokinesis attack (cue slow motion dodge because we ). Silver looks over at Sonic and says "Is that you, Sonic? Or are you nothing more than a clone?" Sonic tries to snap Silver out of whatever the heck he's babbling on about when Silver sends him into a wall. Sonic gets back up and goes on the run with Silver in pursuit and THEN cue the battle set up. I also had a set up for Shadow where they make a whole bunch of SA2 references leading up to his fight.
I personally think that silver sonic is more a prototype of mecha sonic than he is with metal sonic because mecha sonic expands on silver sonics' abilities unlike metal sonic who is completely different in terms of move set, but I could be wrong. nice vid btw.
Sonic 06 is a continuity reboot meaning it eliminates all previous continuity so Sonic 1,2,3&Knuckles,Sonic Adventure ,Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes and Shadow the hedgehog have nothing to do with Sonic 06.

Thanks. I hate how Sega is treating Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic as different Sonics I believe that The Phantom Ruby (despite how Mediocre Sonic Forces was) helped unified the timeline. I believe that Classic Sonic would grow up to become Modern Sonic and that's where Sonic Pocket Adventure comes in. From what I read on the Sonic Wiki Sonic Pocket Adventure's plot was Dr. Eggman is a asshole stop Him but I believe that Eggman Returned to Westside Island (with Sonic and Tails in presuit) to find the stone tablet that predicts Perfect Chaos Eggman manged to find it and baits Sonic by stealing the Chaos Emerald from Knuckles and lures him to His space station to distract Him. After Chaotic Space Eggman crash lands on Angel Island again and waits for night to fall to shatter the Master Emerald and awaken Chaos
When it comes to Metal Sonic, the way I see it is this: Metal Sonic: Built for Speed (hence why you don't fight him, but race him. This would also make sense given how Sonic CD introduced the Super Peel-Out, a move designed to give you a great deal of speed) Silver Sonic: Built for Battle (hence why he's slow, heavily armored, and can spin-dash, something Sonic, and Metal Sonic, couldn't do in Sonic CD) Mecha Sonic: Built for Both (He's light enough to be fast, but armored enough to hold his own in a fight and also spindash. There's also the fact that he can pilot Eggman's mobile)
This has been bugging me for a while now. I could never get down with how convoluted and odd the Sonic canon/continuity is. From what I've heard, people have said Iizuka has confirmed that Sonic travels through two worlds: his world (no pun intended) where mostly anthropomorphic animals inhabit, and the human world. At NO point in the games does _anyone_ bring mention to this in any way, shape, or form. Apparently, this reason is why no humans have showed up from Colors onward, even if they had more than enough reason to in games like Forces. (On a side note, they could've just said that Eggman beat G.U.N. and other forces similar to them so badly to the point where whoever was in charge put their trust in Sonic's friends to take care of Eggman while the human's defended themselves in small groups all around the planet, help out individuals who are unable or too afraid to fight, making weapons, etc.) It feels like whoever is making these things up is just making up whatever without explaining it or having it make sense. I can buy the moon being on the good side, some of the spin offs having a part in canon, and even 06 being (technically) erased from canon, but the two worlds thing?
See, saying that you're making things more consistent by saying Sonic Mania/Forces Sonic is the same Classic Sonic from Generations is not true. Being from another Dimension is accurate now that the timelines are separate. It's an alternate dimension. Not only that but IN-GAME they show that they know this Classic Sonic despite being the ones to claim he's from another dimension. That means they know him from Generations. Such as Sonic's obvious pun "I haven't seen you for generations." Not that it's all perfect or flawless or like there's never plot holes, but a LOT of the time, people just get confused easily when it comes to time travel. You just need to be on board with whatever fictional logic of time travel they're going with as long as that logic makes sense. And usually it does even if not realistic. (How can there be a good AND a bad future? There's many possible futures but only one actual future: The future that represents would WILL happen. If you go to the bad future, that bad future is made by your actions from the present included those made by you knowing of the bad future. That's why there's no escaping it. To be able to go TO the bad future, then back to the present and. turn it into the Good Future realistically makes no sense. But we all understand the game's logic which makes sense enough to follow.)

The Japanese manual calls Metal Sonic, *Mecha Sonic*. So applying the same logic to the robot in Sonic in Sonic 2 (We'll just call it Silver Sonic cause that was it's name in the 8-bit game and the comics) and Mecha Sonic from S3&K would be pointless.
+Silver Sonic 1992 I have no Idea were you get that one from I just to be sure did double check it and no if you translate Metal Sonic's Character profile in the Japanese CD manual does it still say Metal Sonic. I thing you got that one mixed up with the Archie comics were there called Metal Sonic when he first appeared in Issue 25 wrongly Mecha Sonic. So again Metal and Mecha Sonic's are 2 different lines of Robot Sonic's with the mecha line having the Sonic And Tails, the Sonic 2, the sonic and knuckles and the Sonic Poked adventure unites under its name while the Metal Sonic line encompasses the Original Metal Sonic the Knuckles Chaodix rebuild and the 3 copies Eggman Nega created through out the Rival games.

This is how I see it, there is 2 timeline The modern where it goes from Sonic 1 to Sonic Forces The Classic timeline where it goes to Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Generations, 3&K, mania, Forces, Mania plus.
Here's how I see the beginning of the Sonic Timeline -or at least an abridged version of it- Sonic 1 SegaSonic Sonic CD Sonic 2 Sonic 3 & K Sonic & Knuckles -Knuckles's story- Knuckles Chaotix Sonic the Fighters And then Sonic Generations causes a timeline split. One timeline leads to Sonic 4 and the Adventure and Modern Eras and the other leads to Mania

Sonic 4 was removed from the timeline altogether. It can't be included. Also, the ages of the characters are inconsistent, whereas previously, the first few Classic games actually had character ages written in the manuals! Almost no one ever reads the manuals, so no one knew! But Sonic is actually 16 by S3&K! Meaning that Sonic Unleashed, where he is fifteen, could only have happened before Sonic 3. The only way it can be canon, however, is if there is a time gap between 2 and 3, where Eggman tried to do something else, before going after the Master Emerald. Since Knuckles and all Modern era-only characters are absent, this actually works out. However, after the failure of the Dark Gaia plot, he discovered Angel Island, weighed down by the wreckage of the Death Egg. He tricks Knuckles into helping him rebuild it, and after some time, the energy reading becomes visible to Tails' sensors. By then, it's nearly finished, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles takes place. From there, the continuity splits, into a gigantic mess. 1 branch leads to Sonic 4 (discontinued), one leads to Mania, and one leads to Sonic Adventure series (Modern Timeline begins). This is the closest to a solid timeline that Sonic has ever had.

No, Yuji Naka was. He created Sonic. Iizuka is his successor, his replacement. Doing a terrible job of maintaining continuity, isn't he? GG4A is correct about him: he will invent something on the spot, without bothering to research the actual data required to justify his words. For example, the Super Emeralds are still canon in the Classic Timeline, but not the Modern one. This is because S3&K happened in the Classic Timeline, while the two games were separated in the Modern Timeline. Because of this, Hyper form only appears in the Classic Timeline. It would be in the Modern one, too, if they would just alter the design slightly, and remove the Hyper Flash Attack. Then Hyper form would be perfectly safe for dumb kids who sit too close to the TV for their own good.
ShadowBladeX I'll stop giving Iizuka flack when I see genuine passion, enthusiasm, and investment in the franchise he's running. Seriously, how often do you see Iizuka smile. I know the great things he's done for the franchise, but that doesn't mean he just automatically deserves a pass for his performance going forwards forever. And just like Premydaremy says, getting blamed for everything wrong with the franchise is just part of the responsibility of his job, and at the end of the day, he is the head of Sonic Team, and runs the whole franchise, so it's just easier to blame him for our complaints, instead of getting really specific, and blaming specific people for specific things.

The canon became worse now thanks to classic and modern being a completely different character, it feels like what happened to megaman were every new idea it capcom just add a new megaman main character, it worked for classic, X, and Legends then started throwing other s*** just because they want to milk the series.

I'm tired of people saying "No one cares about Sonic's story/canon/lore/consistency". I've ALWAYS cared about that. The story was always consistent from Sonic 1 to Shth. 06 never happened, because it was reset, but it's still canon. Generations was the true game that screwed consistency, think about it. And for everyone that plays Sonic just for the gameplay, you don't have to criticize people like me who care about the story in these games, or act like nobody cares about story in the first place. 06 is one of my favorite Sonic games just for the story alone, not to mention the soundtrack.
Sonic stories, to me, are the best when they are EXTREMELY cheesy. Like, I want to make fun of sonic for its cheesy ness, not the gameplay. That’s why I like hero’s. I love the cheesy cutscenes, characters, and main theme. I really want another cheesy sonic game-

For me, everything excluding sonic boom is conon. I don't care what Izuka says without any real evidence. And the sonic boom games is established to be a alternate universe.
I also want to say here while I got it on my mind. GamerGuyd, I love your theories and they're really interesting, but you really love including Ix and the Nocturnus Clan, and I don't think Sonic Chronicles is Canon due to the legal issues and never-to-be-answered cliffhanger at the end. I heard from someone that Iizuka said at one point that Chronicles isn't canon, but barely anyone knows that, and I cannot confirm if this is even true. If he did say this, he probably said it during the Dark Age before Twitter and before we were all paying attention to the Sonic Twitter and all the interviews.

Another good example would be his Silver's parents theory were he ignores Shadow's game but counts the Archie comics and takes relationship shards from the Knight counterparts ignoring that by that Logic Blaze and Jet would also be related. (Should you wonder I was the one that made the comment that he mentioned at the start of the video)
The Sonic canon does make sense. Fans just keep on misunderstanding it. Genesis game: Anthro animals mainly reside in forests, Islands, ect. Cities, temples can be seen which foreshadows humans in Sonic. Not to mention, Eggman is human as well so this proves that humans have always existed. Genesis games talk about the Knuckles clans origins. Characters are the same Adventure game: Humans are seen to reside in places like cities. Islands is where Sonic's friends mainly live, as seen in Sonic Adventure. With better technology, the Adventure games could explain the story better. Adventure elaborates on the Knuckles Clan. Characters are the same Dark age games: Same as the Adventure games. Characters are almost the same Modern era: Animals are now seen to live in small, unrealistic looking cities. Humans are nowhere to be seen. The chaos emeralds in the past few games haven't been mentioned in the plot, as if they're nonexistent in the story Character's personality and character development from pass games is gone. In conclusion, the Adventure games, Genesis, Dark age games are consistent with story, setting, tone ect. The modern era is when things drastically change so much.
The reason is obvious. Sonic Team stopped giving a shit. 06 was very much the stopping point in terms of continuity. I personally find that there is a mildly consistent and sensible timeline/canon from Sonic 1 up to 06. The stories in between those games lead to the next game consecutively so there is a sense of continuity. It's with Unleashed where Sonic Team chose to start from scratch with the story as means of removing ties to 06 and the previous games. It went on from there with Colors, Generations, Lost World and Forces, all of which don't have a place in my personal canon since they're far removed from the previous games. Those games just happen in their own universe as far as I'm concerned.
Even though Unleashed's story had little to no connection with 06 and the previous games, I still think the story is good and I don't think it shouldn't be canon just for trying something different because they tried to take risks and it still worked out in the end unlike almost every game in the meta era where the writing is almost never good. If I had to say which mainline games are canon after 06, it's Unleashed, Colors DS, Runners (a mobile game tied to Lost World) & Frontiers along with IDW Comics [not all of it].
Well actually when you think about it, if both Blaze and Crisis City were in the same game Generations. Then that means Eggman's Time Eater might be able to bring back pieces of time that were erased because, I mean come on-it the Time Eater, it can basically do whatever it wants with time but having it destroyed means that Generations never happened in the first place meaning Eggman's still in space from Colors having his robots transition to lost world or something. As for Blaze she was already visiting Sonic's dimension since Sonic Colors DS and stuck around for his birthday party at the beginning of Generations. No wait, Generations didn't occur until the Time Eater showed up so his birthday is definitely canon. 06 and Generations are hardly different when you think about it. I hate how Sega changed that AGAINST how it was supposed to be and instead made little Sonic appear in forces and modern Sonic ACTUALLY RECOGNIZES him when Generations was SUPPOSED to be erased from history along with 06. This franchise goes against every piece of logic there is an existence. Not to mention Time Travel is literally impossible in the real world and you can't change anything that has happened nor change what is to come unless you DON'T KNOW what is going to happen.

There is the possibility that the 8th Emerald is in fact the Master Emerald because it was obtained by Knuckles. Also, note that early Japanese manuals identified the Master Emerald as an eighth, larger Chaos Emerald.
I always took it as the 7th chaos emerald hadn't been discovered yet. It takes 7 to go super and stuff like that, hence why you couldn't in Sonic 1, but the 7th is just off elsewhere inaccessible in Sonic 1.
The fact is that there was a fair amount of attention to canon from Sonic 1-Sonic 06. The problem is that Sega didn't want to constructively improve on what Sonic 06 established, instead they just scrapped everything and forgot about canon, because apparently basic things like consistency and character don't matter. I get why you think that the inconsistency is fun, but many people liked it when it felt like there was growth as opposed to just one-off adventures, even if that growth was mostly superficial. You are right that as far as theories though, people can't say what is canon and not canon as far as Sega is concerned.
Your reason is right, the Sonic timeline changes, but SEGA and Sonic Team not forget the Sonic games and the team with work in a official Sonic game, sometimes, confused the information in the Sonic timeline. In Sonic Generations, all the music came past Sonic games with Sonic Spinball (not canon), Sonic 3D Blast (canon) and Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1(canon). I made the Sonic timeline in: the principal series(with the spin-offs) and the 8-bits series.
I always considered the beginning of the timeline like this: Classic Era (Sonic leaves Christmas Island to go to South Island to see new sights, He meets Dr. Eggman who begins his quest for the 6 Chaos Emeralds) Sonic 1 (Eggman captures Sonic and other people like Sonic on an island full of traps, and then kidnaps Sonic again in a Labyrinth so he can get data for his “Special Project”) Sega-Sonic Sonic Labyrinth (Amy Rose hears of Sonic’s adventures from the news and the tarot cards tell her to go to Never Lake, Sonic wants to take a vacation to Never Lake to see the Miracle Planet, and Eggman’s special project comes into the fray.) Sonic CD Blank Point: Sonic meets Miles Prower (Tails is kidnapped on South Island and Sonic goes to rescue him) Sonic 2 for the Game Gear (The 7th Emerald has been found, and Eggman beings to initiate his plan for the death egg) Sonic Chaos (Eggman goes to Westside Island to get everything ready for the Death Egg’s Launch, Sonic and Tails follow him on the Tornado) Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Sonic and Tails find an ancient ring that tells of the legend of The Floating Island, being curious they discover Angel Island. This is coming from someone who grew up loving the characters and the story, I don't care anymore (at least not much) Reasons being Sega/Sonic Team doesn't care anymore which honestly kind of angers. All they care about is money,Classic Sonic and trying to bring in new fans and little kids. They think all of the early 2000s games were bad so they ignore those in my opinion underrated games (excluding 06, sorry Prem.) The plots were cared for in the early 2000s by writers like Mr. Shiro Meakawa (probably said his name wrong) but now that HE'S gone (and I heard he wants to come back) we've got Pontacc and Graff. Iizuka hired them because stupid, FREAKING critics that don't mean crap said that the old 2000 games were bad. So Iizuka wanted to make the Sonic stories super child friendly and stupid, something the series was NOT meant to be, even back in the FREAKING Classic days Sonic was and was supposed to be more story oriented and more mature and action packed than Mario was but look now, in terms of story, Mario's getting better at story, the Paper Mario games along with the Mario &/Luigi plots aren't exactly works of art but at least they tried and they did great and added more to Mario usually wacky world, sometimes actually being dark, and I know Super Mario Odyssey isn't exactly a story filled game but it was well detailed, the Tour guide papers informing you of the locations Mario visits, plus, adding more to Mario's World. Why is Sonic like this now, he was a lot better than this and I don't care what anyone says about Sonic 06's, Black Knight's or Shadow the Hedgehog's story, they were kinda great and fun. At least the writer(s) tried and actually WANTED to make good Sonic stories unlike what we've got now. I miss the REAL Sonic, 1991/1999-2009, the Sonic that was cool and did awesome and amazing things.
Agreed completely Izuki 101. The critics who bashed Sonic Adventure & the early 2000s games must have been braindead. Both the Dreamcast & 4kids eras were known for having great storytelling. 2010 started the worst decade of Sonic's career & 3 consecutive Sonic 06 games would have hurt the series less than Pontac & Graff who turned it into a complete joke. Shadow's story may have been hard to follow, although it was awesome. 06 & Black Knight had great stories, it sucks we can't have that again.
Tre Massicotte If Sega wants Sonic to be profitable again, then that version of Sonic will have to come back. Mania and Forces just barely scraped past the million mark in sales, while games like Heroes and Unleashed were multi-million sellers. Telling fans to deal with it is basically asking for customers to spend their money elsewhere, which is what they started doing since Lost World.
Izuki 101 I hear you. Its tough watching your favorite series become a shell of its former self, but I don't think you should give up on Sonic just yet. Wait and see what the next mainline Sonic game will be like. Sonic Team put more emphasis on the story in Forces. If they combine that with better gameplay and a longer game, then we could be in for something good. Is is likely? Eh...probably not. But I would at least hold out until the next game.
Um. Yuji Naka wasn’t involved in the development of Sonic CD. That game was led by Ohshima, who remained in Japan after Sonic 1. Naka and Yasuhara went to work for STI afterwards, both for different reasons. Even though CD was treated as a follow-up to the original game by the people making it, it was never meant to be called Sonic 2.
There is no canon with these new games. They break continuity just as much as they call back to it. Therefore the canon isn't changing because none of the new games are canon.

Black Knight still fit into the continuity, although it was more of Sonic's last hurrah before the series went & screwed over everything. Unleashed though was probably the Climax for the series.
My Sonic head canon SEGASONIC, Eggman’s first attempt at capturing animals SONIC CD, Eggman tries to get the time stones and erase Sonic from existence, he didn’t know about the Choas Emeralds yet SONIC 1, Eggman enslaves more animals, and Sonic tries to stop him, Metal Sonic was also destroyed after CD so Eggman had to make a new one from the ground up he also begins to make the the death egg and (in my mind at least) he gets the emeralds SONIC 2, Sonic finds an two tailed fox who rescues him from falling and the two become good friends (of course this is Tails) the two fly up with Sonic’s biplane to the Death Egg which Eggman powered with the last emerald from West Side Island then they beat Eggman with Sonic using the Emeralds to become super and the death egg falls. (Note the Metal Sonic fought is an early version of Metal Mkll) SONIC GENERATIONS: Classic doesn’t recognize modern Amy and doesn’t know the rest of them S3&K, The Death Egg Falls onto Angel Island and Eggman convinces Knuckles that sonic stole the emeralds so he knocks the emeralds out of Sonic and takes them to the super emerald shrine. Meanwhile Eggman stole the Master Emerald used it to power the death egg and Angel island fell SLOWLY later in his adventure Sonic finds the super emerald shrine and takes them with him, Eggman then destroys the shrine thinking the emeralds were there Later while Knuckles is fighting with Mecha Sonic (Metal Mk11 0.2) this rendition has added features after the horrible failure of Metal Mkll 0.1 Sonic and Tails come and help Knuckles, then the echidna realizes his mistake, he stays at the shrine while Tails and Sonic fly up to defeat Eggman. Iizuka has no idea what to do with the characters/universe. Honestly, he shouldn't be in charge of that shit. Get someone else to do it. Iizuka seperated Classic Sonic just so they can keep using him as a crutch, which wouldn't be needed if they just made a good fucking game! The franchise has been pretty consistent up until Forces (I think that's when Iizuka started the whole "two worlds" canon BS... before that they had established a continuity and universe. There was no "two worlds" canon, no Mobius, look at all the previous games and you'll notice that all the games are somewhat connected. Forces is the most disconnected because it ignores all things that were previously established. Where are the humans? Where's G.U.N? Why is Green Hill part of a landmass instead of being on an island? First they can't be consistent with gameplay, now they can't be consistent with the fucking canon!
To me, the Sonic canon only includes games that were made for and released on Sega hardware. Once Sega started making Sonic games for Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft consoles, that's where the canon ended for me. So my timeline is "Sonic the Hedgehog", "SegaSonic the Hedgehog", "Sonic CD", "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", "Sonic the Hedgehog 3", "Sonic and Knuckles", "Knuckles Chaotix", "Sonic Adventure", and "Sonic Adventure 2". I'd also consider adding some of the spinoffs (3D Blast, Spinball, Fighters, etc) and Master System/Game Gear games ("Sonic the Hedgehog" on Master System, "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" on Master System, "Sonic Chaos", "Triple Trouble", etc) to the timeline as well, but just not sure where I'd put them right now. However, for me, nothing that was originally created for non-Sega hardware will ever be canon in my mind.

Personally, I belive that Sonic 4 is canon in the first timeline. After Generations and stuff, the Sonic from the 2nd timeline experiences Sonic Mania, instead of Sonic 4. And as a bit of personal headcanon, the Phantom Ruby was only created because of the mess in the timelines Generations made, since it brought back erased timelines (06), erased humans from the planet (I mean, besides Eggman, no other human has been seen or mentioned after Generations, even though they existed consistently throughout the dreamcast era, and up to Unleashed), split the main timeline in 2, fused timelines that didn't belong in the same world (seen as Blaze, who is supposedly from another dimension, remembers her time in the future of Sonic's timeline, or how Sonic remembers the events of Secret Rings, which is a spinoff), amongst other things (like erasing Cream from space and time... just think about it). So, after the Time Eater wrecked up the timeline, the Phantom Ruby was created in a similar fashion to the Chaos Emeralds, however, instead of helping Light Gaia stop Dark Gaia, the Phantom Ruby's purpose is to keep the timeline intact, hence why it has its many reality-altering skills, like teleportation (as seen throughout all of Sonic Mania), ability to travel between 2 separate timelines, create and erase things (like in the Sonic Forces comic about Infinite's origin), create a void in the spacetime continuum (Null Space) so it can discard the things that weren't supposed to exist, and most important of all, the power of retconning. I mean, it makes sense. The Ruby never existed pre-generations, AKA the game that messes up the timeline most. Additionally, its power over the universe, like shown in Sonic Mania Plus, is perfect for retconning, essentially erasing timelines that don't add up together. So... I guess the Sonic timeline's inconsistency makes a bit more sense now. It IS inconsistent. It broke itself so much that the universe sent a new mcguffin to alter reality until it was right again, and if nothing worked, erase that timeline and start over.
The cannon followed through from the start all the way to Shadow the Hedgehog + Sonic Chronicles, but now everything, including the characters, is shit, and nowhere near as good as before.
There are some problems with the way you do this video. You say you never really thought of Knuckles Chaotix as canon before, even though the characters from that game appear in other games, yet as soon as Mania Plus came out, you considered SegaSonic as canon because it introduced Mighty and Ray. Only THEN, do you consider Knuckles Chaotix to be canon. And when it comes to a game selling well to be canon, you say Sonic 4 can't be canon due to how poorly it did, but that brings me back to the two previous games, which both didn't exactly do well AND you consider Sonic The Fighters to be canon. If you want to have theories consistent with each other, try making what you say in your videos more consistent.

Honestly, the only reason i believe CD takes place before sonic 2 is because ever since Sonic 2, Sonic & Tails have became best friends and always go on adventures together all the time and Tails is always in the games (The main series ones at least). But tails wasn't in CD, making me believe CD IS before Sonic 2.
I believe Sonic 4 happens after Generations (from Modern's perspective). It fixes the entire timeline except for the fact it exploded before in Fighters, which makes sense because time is screwed on Little Planet.
I suspect: Multiverse. Hardly any two games take place in exactly the same universe, and each show has its own universe. Characters may remember events from other games, because variations of these events may have happened within their universe. Also time-travel fun making its own branch universes, ... Kind of a cop-out, but meh. ( Likewise, Forces may exist in a timeline where the events of 2006 played out differently, so the ending events never happened, but other parts did. )

I seen why people might disagree with sega changing the statement of " classic sonic from a different time", to " from a different dimension", since that sonic in forces references generation, but I got a little theory that could suggest why sega isn't wrong. I believe in generations classic sonic was either in or after the events of sonic 3 and knuckles meaning after the stage sky sanctuary and the death egg robot boss, everything classic sonic is experiencing is new as he's seeing his "old future" as so is classic eggman. So when classic sonic,tails and eggman were sent back to their present time, classic eggman must of reflected on his future failures and so decided to change his plans to cause the event of mania and not adventure dx ,and since that sonic forces modern sonic has never experienced mania, that could mean that they are then 2 separate people because of their 2 separate timelines that you can also call "dimensions". Also to back up my statement, you suggest that sonic likes to "borrow" a lot of things from dragon ball z , so if I were to put my statement into super with trunks, it would make 100% sense shown in episode 60 where future trunks tells present trunks how time travel really works in their universe. That's my theory of why classic sonic in forces is from another dimension, and I hop you enjoyed it.
IF Metal Sonic from Knuckles Chaotix is a another Metal Sonic (not of the Sonic CD one), so Sonic 4 can be canon (in timeline one). Because, Knuckles Chaotix will happen, Sonic The Fighters, and so, Sonic 4 Episode 1. In Episode 2, Eggman will bring back Metal Sonic (from Sonic CD), using the time stones (because, the true ending of Sonic CD, is with Sonic destroying that things that i forget the name, in the past, and not collecting the time stones).
Simple reason, SEGA don't care anymore, like ok up to 06 timeline did make sense but after that, they just didn't care anymore, most of the games feel like soft reboot of universe, completely new story that doesn't take an account of events from past entries, then came Generations and made everything even worse with timeline split even further into classic and modern cannon, at this point making a one whole thing out of these shattered pieces of cannon would demand some crazy ass lore behind it all, something SEGA definitely don't care enough about to really bother, so with every new game the problem will keep growing, like seriously to fix this they would need really solid story writer, or maybe even team os such and good idea how to sum up everything into something that makes sense, what seems unlikely considering how low budget tea was behind the last instalment into franchise :P Anyways as long as shifting cannon might be fun to mess around with it's actually bad if you want to build lore on it, cuz then without a solidly set timeline, you can set events well in it, it's like trying to build a house on sand, it gonna fell apart cuz the foundation isn't really strong enough to support it

for a theory for why silver sonic exists in the canon of sonic 2 despite eggman having created metal sonic (while ignoring sonic 4 in this lore) is that eggman simpley didnt have the time to recreate a second metal sonic "Properly" between the events of sonic CD's ending and the point in Sonic 2 where the player reaches sky fortress - forcing Eggman to fall back on using a un-tested model (or an older prototype build he just left collecting dust on the shelf when he got bored and moved onto the next version, the one that was used in CD,.) because who's to say that he didnt start building one version and then changed his plans up for the more advance version back when he still had access to the time stones to help him "speed up the process" when he made the one seen in sonic CD? thats one thing folks dont even take into consideration, the time travel aspects of Sonic CD go Both ways here. yes sonic beats eggman, we get to move on from CD to sonic 2, but, how long would it have taken eggman to make; literally, his best creation ever? - Eggman's literal "magnum opus" a robot equal to Sonic in speed and abilities? It's literally the only bot he's made that's ever stood any form of a chance against sonic, could keep up with him, and in some cases even surpass Sonic when the circumstances are correct. Seems to me like something that obviously would take a lot of time and effort to create, and might have even been impossible to do in such a short amount of time if he hadn't had access to the time stones on the Little Planet. Of course we know how "sonic went back in time using the last time stone, to go back further in time and collect all the other time stones and finally undue eggman's progress on the little planet, ect ect ect. So, Silver Sonic can still be a prototype for Metal Sonic, despite being part of sonic 2 and lore wise, seen after Metal Sonic. The main issue people have with the canon constantly changing is that there is no true canon. It's bad enough when Aaron comes out with his "everything is canon" statement. I know he's trying to make light of it but it doesn't change the fact that the Sonic franchise as a whole is a huge mess. When they (Iizuka) keep changing stuff around to fit their own personal headcanon it causes massive issues and plotholes going forward. Not only that, but it adds onto the idea that Sonic has an identity crisis. It gets worse with each entry and shows no sign of getting better. Constantly changing canon isn't a good thing, it just proves the series has no central identity anymore. Like the "two worlds" thing, it contradicts many of the previous games dating back from Sonic 1 all the way to Zero Gravity. It was a recent concept that was added into the lore half hazardly post-Unleashed. Since then the games have taken place on two seperate planets according to Iizuka. Which is a completely idiotic thing to do. Now they are mix-mashing locations that aren't even on said planet. (Dusty Desert is on Sonic's world despite being in Sonic 06) The way it's explained is that Sonic and co. travel between planets through a "magical gate connected by a magical bridge that only they can access". We aren't supposed to know about this or it's existence, the only way we do is through leaks within SEGA itself. How am I supposed to know or care about what's going on if I don't even know what planet the game is set on? This isn't the first time they unnecessarily retconned things either. Back in the day, it was explained that why we no longer see Tails and Knuckles go super anymore is because only male hedgehogs can go super apparently. But obviously this isn't true since the classic games, Mania and Adventure 2 contradict that. There's a line about Knuckles wanting to turn super during the final battle or something. But since that's the dumbest excuse anyone has ever heard, they copped it out for an EVEN dumber excuse. It's now stated that Tails and Knuckles have super forms but have lost the ability to use them. That's no even an excuse that's just fucking lazy writing on their part. The continuity is just a fucking mess. At this point the only way I can see them fixing it is if they retcon aspects of certain games, or trying to pull another soft reboot.
Shrug. Whatever gets a callback and whatever clearly makes sense it's canon. Also the moon thing, while stupid, makes sense since if the moon is blown in half, all of it's rotation, gravitational pull, etc. Would be changed. Whether or not it sounds smart doesn't really matter since it's a probability. The moon rotates anyways, we don't know if losing half the moon would make it rotate faster.
I think that sonic adventure 2 ins´t canon, because it seems that sonic games are happening in other universes, in sA2 there are a lot of people, but in sonic forces there are only anthropomorphic animals, except eggman of course, which made us to believer that sonic games are constantly changing between universes. can you make a video about my thought? by the way, I agree with you,
They all live in Sonic Land, one side of the world where South Island is thats where anipromphic animals live, in another side thats where the places like Station Square is where the humans are. Simple as that.
Here's how I think the early portion of the timeline works: 1) Sonic 1 - introduce Sonic, Eggman, the Chaos Emeralds 2) Sonic 2 - introduce Tails, establish the seventh emerald and super transformations 3) Sonic CD - introduce Amy and Metal Sonic, teach Sonic how he can impact the world by showing him a possible dark future if he ever becomes careless or apathetic. This builds him up to be even more heroic. Also, imo, Tails isn't present since he was using the emeralds to build his radar that'll be used right before 3&K starts. 4) Sonic 3 & Knuckles - introduce Knuckles, the Master Emerald, and Super Emeralds. 5) Knuckles' Chaotix - introduce Espio, Vector, Charmy, and Mighty. Have Knuckles be more outgoing by traveling to Carnival Island (possibly some inspiration he got from Sonic's personality). And establish that Metal Sonic can transform. As for Sonic 4, Segasonic, and Mania Plus, I'm comfortable with them being in a separate universe alongside the other 2010's games that don't work as an overall narrative; especially with continuity errors like Blaze remembering Sonic 06 and the same Classic Sonic being BOTH from the past and a different universe. The writers admitted in interviews that they don't know much of the franchise. I'd rather have everything, at this point, released after Sonic and the Black Knight to be in an alternate timeline. If there's going to be a new full 3D game that's faithful to something along the lines of Adventure 1, 2, and Unleashed, then I can't take it that seriously if it's in the same continuity as a mess like Forces.

I have a theory on Sonic '06. Is the game canon? the answer to that is yes and no. While yes, the STORY of the game was erased from the timeline (and for the better of the franchise) and never mentioned or brought up again, not EVERYTHING was forgotten. Crisis City is just a remnant of what Sonic remembers from the events of '06. Meanwhile, NOT EVERY character forgot the events of '06, and Blaze seems to be the only character who remembers all of the events VERY well. Why she never brings them up? My guess is she WANTS to forget, she NEVER wants to think about those events, but they haunt her like a nightmare that never ends... even when you wake up.
I remember hearing a statement that says something like: only a few select people remember that '06 happened, more or less. They listed Eggman and Sonic, but I also think it's safe to say Shadow and Blaze remember too. And in Colors DS, Silver gets a feeling that he's worked with Blaze before.
Also, speaking of Generations, missed chance with the Rival battle set up against Silver. I thought of this last night and how I'd have it set up (Since I care about a good story in a Sonic game) : Sonic and Tails are looking over Crisis City and Sonic says to Tails that "This feels like a distant memory that I remember coming to." Tails says some dialog that he doesn't even remember being here at all (based on the list of characters Gaming Sensei said) after some talk, Tails sees Silver flying at high speeds towards them, alerts Sonic and they both get out of the way of Silver's psychokinesis attack (cue slow motion dodge because we ). Silver looks over at Sonic and says "Is that you, Sonic? Or are you nothing more than a clone?" Sonic tries to snap Silver out of whatever the heck he's babbling on about when Silver sends him into a wall. Sonic gets back up and goes on the run with Silver in pursuit and THEN cue the battle set up. I also had a set up for Shadow where they make a whole bunch of SA2 references leading up to his fight.
When 06 timelines deleted it reset the timeline into one canon timeline then the time eater changed it then the original timeline

I personally think that silver sonic is more a prototype of mecha sonic than he is with metal sonic because mecha sonic expands on silver sonics' abilities unlike metal sonic who is completely different in terms of move set, but I could be wrong. nice vid btw.

I believe that Classic Sonic would grow up to become Modern Sonic and that's where Sonic Pocket Adventure comes in. From what I read on the Sonic Wiki Sonic Pocket Adventure's plot was Dr. Eggman is a asshole stop Him but I believe that Eggman Returned to Westside Island (with Sonic and Tails in presuit) to find the stone tablet that predicts Perfect Chaos Eggman manged to find it and baits Sonic by stealing the Chaos Emerald from Knuckles and lures him to His space station to distract Him. After Chaotic Space Eggman crash lands on Angel Island again and waits for night to fall to shatter the Master Emerald and awaken Chaos
When it comes to Metal Sonic, the way I see it is this:
Metal Sonic: Built for Speed (hence why you don't fight him, but race him. This would also make sense given how Sonic CD introduced the Super Peel-Out, a move designed to give you a great deal of speed)
Silver Sonic: Built for Battle (hence why he's slow, heavily armored, and can spin-dash, something Sonic, and Metal Sonic, couldn't do in Sonic CD)
Mecha Sonic: Built for Both (He's light enough to be fast, but armored enough to hold his own in a fight and also spindash. There's also the fact that he can pilot Eggman's mobile)

This has been bugging me for a while now. I could never get down with how convoluted and odd the Sonic canon/continuity is. From what I've heard, people have said Iizuka has confirmed that Sonic travels through two worlds: his world (no pun intended) where mostly anthropomorphic animals inhabit, and the human world. At NO point in the games does _anyone_ bring mention to this in any way, shape, or form. Apparently, this reason is why no humans have showed up from Colors onward, even if they had more than enough reason to in games like Forces. (On a side note, they could've just said that Eggman beat G.U.N. and other forces similar to them so badly to the point where whoever was in charge put their trust in Sonic's friends to take care of Eggman while the human's defended themselves in small groups all around the planet, help out individuals who are unable or too afraid to fight, making weapons, etc.) It feels like whoever is making these things up is just making up whatever without explaining it or having it make sense. I can buy the moon being on the good side, some of the spin offs having a part in canon, and even 06 being (technically) erased from canon, but the two worlds thing?

See, saying that you're making things more consistent by saying Sonic Mania/Forces Sonic is the same Classic Sonic from Generations is not true. Being from another Dimension is accurate now that the timelines are separate. It's an alternate dimension. Not only that but IN-GAME they show that they know this Classic Sonic despite being the ones to claim he's from another dimension. That means they know him from Generations. Such as Sonic's obvious pun "I haven't seen you for generations."
Not that it's all perfect or flawless or like there's never plot holes, but a LOT of the time, people just get confused easily when it comes to time travel. You just need to be on board with whatever fictional logic of time travel they're going with as long as that logic makes sense. And usually it does even if not realistic. (How can there be a good AND a bad future? There's many possible futures but only one actual future: The future that represents would WILL happen. If you go to the bad future, that bad future is made by your actions from the present included those made by you knowing of the bad future. That's why there's no escaping it. To be able to go TO the bad future, then back to the present and. turn it into the Good Future realistically makes no sense. But we all understand the game's logic which makes sense enough to follow.)

The Japanese manual calls Metal Sonic, *Mecha Sonic*. So applying the same logic to the robot in Sonic in Sonic 2 (We'll just call it Silver Sonic cause that was it's name in the 8-bit game and the comics) and Mecha Sonic from S3&K would be pointless.

I thing you got that one mixed up with the Archie comics were there called Metal Sonic when he first appeared in Issue 25 wrongly Mecha Sonic.
So again Metal and Mecha Sonic's are 2 different lines of Robot Sonic's with the mecha line having the Sonic And Tails, the Sonic 2, the sonic and knuckles and the Sonic Poked adventure unites under its name while the Metal Sonic line encompasses the Original Metal Sonic the Knuckles Chaodix rebuild and the 3 copies Eggman Nega created through out the Rival games.

In his world, Gens doesn't happen until after Colors.
In the second timeline, Gens happens when Sonic is still a kid, overwriting Sonic 4 with it and Mania
Sonic 4 was removed from the timeline altogether. It can't be included. Also, the ages of the characters are inconsistent, whereas previously, the first few Classic games actually had character ages written in the manuals! Almost no one ever reads the manuals, so no one knew! But Sonic is actually 16 by S3&K! Meaning that Sonic Unleashed, where he is fifteen, could only have happened before Sonic 3. The only way it can be canon, however, is if there is a time gap between 2 and 3, where Eggman tried to do something else, before going after the Master Emerald. Since Knuckles and all Modern era-only characters are absent, this actually works out. However, after the failure of the Dark Gaia plot, he discovered Angel Island, weighed down by the wreckage of the Death Egg. He tricks Knuckles into helping him rebuild it, and after some time, the energy reading becomes visible to Tails' sensors. By then, it's nearly finished, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles takes place. From there, the continuity splits, into a gigantic mess. 1 branch leads to Sonic 4 (discontinued), one leads to Mania, and one leads to Sonic Adventure series (Modern Timeline begins). This is the closest to a solid timeline that Sonic has ever had.

No, Yuji Naka was. He created Sonic. Iizuka is his successor, his replacement. Doing a terrible job of maintaining continuity, isn't he? GG4A is correct about him: he will invent something on the spot, without bothering to research the actual data required to justify his words. For example, the Super Emeralds are still canon in the Classic Timeline, but not the Modern one. This is because S3&K happened in the Classic Timeline, while the two games were separated in the Modern Timeline. Because of this, Hyper form only appears in the Classic Timeline. It would be in the Modern one, too, if they would just alter the design slightly, and remove the Hyper Flash Attack. Then Hyper form would be perfectly safe for dumb kids who sit too close to the TV for their own good.

I know the great things he's done for the franchise, but that doesn't mean he just automatically deserves a pass for his performance going forwards forever. And just like Premydaremy says, getting blamed for everything wrong with the franchise is just part of the responsibility of his job, and at the end of the day, he is the head of Sonic Team, and runs the whole franchise, so it's just easier to blame him for our complaints, instead of getting really specific, and blaming specific people for specific things.

I'm tired of people saying "No one cares about Sonic's story/canon/lore/consistency". I've ALWAYS cared about that. The story was always consistent from Sonic 1 to Shth. 06 never happened, because it was reset, but it's still canon. Generations was the true game that screwed consistency, think about it. And for everyone that plays Sonic just for the gameplay, you don't have to criticize people like me who care about the story in these games, or act like nobody cares about story in the first place. 06 is one of my favorite Sonic games just for the story alone, not to mention the soundtrack.
Sonic stories, to me, are the best when they are EXTREMELY cheesy.

GamerGuyd, I love your theories and they're really interesting, but you really love including Ix and the Nocturnus Clan, and I don't think Sonic Chronicles is Canon due to the legal issues and never-to-be-answered cliffhanger at the end. I heard from someone that Iizuka said at one point that Chronicles isn't canon, but barely anyone knows that, and I cannot confirm if this is even true. If he did say this, he probably said it during the Dark Age before Twitter and before we were all paying attention to the Sonic Twitter and all the interviews.

Genesis game: Anthro animals mainly reside in forests, Islands, ect. Cities, temples can be seen which foreshadows humans in Sonic. Not to mention, Eggman is human as well so this proves that humans have always existed. Genesis games talk about the Knuckles clans origins. Characters are the same
Adventure game: Humans are seen to reside in places like cities. Islands is where Sonic's friends mainly live, as seen in Sonic Adventure. With better technology, the Adventure games could explain the story better. Adventure elaborates on the Knuckles Clan. Characters are the same
Dark age games: Same as the Adventure games. Characters are almost the same
Modern era: Animals are now seen to live in small, unrealistic looking cities. Humans are nowhere to be seen. The chaos emeralds in the past few games haven't been mentioned in the plot, as if they're nonexistent in the story Character's personality and character development from pass games is gone.
In conclusion, the Adventure games, Genesis, Dark age games are consistent with story, setting, tone ect. The modern era is when things drastically change so much.
The reason is obvious. Sonic Team stopped giving a shit. 06 was very much the stopping point in terms of continuity. I personally find that there is a mildly consistent and sensible timeline/canon from Sonic 1 up to 06. The stories in between those games lead to the next game consecutively so there is a sense of continuity. It's with Unleashed where Sonic Team chose to start from scratch with the story as means of removing ties to 06 and the previous games. It went on from there with Colors, Generations, Lost World and Forces, all of which don't have a place in my personal canon since they're far removed from the previous games. Those games just happen in their own universe as far as I'm concerned.
Even though Unleashed's story had little to no connection with 06 and the previous games, I still think the story is good and I don't think it shouldn't be canon just for trying something different because they tried to take risks and it still worked out in the end unlike almost every game in the meta era where the writing is almost never good. If I had to say which mainline games are canon after 06, it's Unleashed, Colors DS, Runners (a mobile game tied to Lost World) & Frontiers along with IDW Comics [not all of it].
Well actually when you think about it, if both Blaze and Crisis City were in the same game Generations. Then that means Eggman's Time Eater might be able to bring back pieces of time that were erased because, I mean come on-it the Time Eater, it can basically do whatever it wants with time but having it destroyed means that Generations never happened in the first place meaning Eggman's still in space from Colors having his robots transition to lost world or something. As for Blaze she was already visiting Sonic's dimension since Sonic Colors DS and stuck around for his birthday party at the beginning of Generations. No wait, Generations didn't occur until the Time Eater showed up so his birthday is definitely canon. 06 and Generations are hardly different when you think about it. I hate how Sega changed that AGAINST how it was supposed to be and instead made little Sonic appear in forces and modern Sonic ACTUALLY RECOGNIZES him when Generations was SUPPOSED to be erased from history along with 06. This franchise goes against every piece of logic there is an existence. Not to mention Time Travel is literally impossible in the real world and you can't change anything that has happened nor change what is to come unless you DON'T KNOW what is going to happen.

There is the possibility that the 8th Emerald is in fact the Master Emerald because it was obtained by Knuckles. Also, note that early Japanese manuals identified the Master Emerald as an eighth, larger Chaos Emerald.
I always took it as the 7th chaos emerald hadn't been discovered yet. It takes 7 to go super and stuff like that, hence why you couldn't in Sonic 1, but the 7th is just off elsewhere inaccessible in Sonic 1.
The fact is that there was a fair amount of attention to canon from Sonic 1-Sonic 06. The problem is that Sega didn't want to constructively improve on what Sonic 06 established, instead they just scrapped everything and forgot about canon, because apparently basic things like consistency and character don't matter. I get why you think that the inconsistency is fun, but many people liked it when it felt like there was growth as opposed to just one-off adventures, even if that growth was mostly superficial. You are right that as far as theories though, people can't say what is canon and not canon as far as Sega is concerned.
Your reason is right, the Sonic timeline changes, but SEGA and Sonic Team not forget the Sonic games and the team with work in a official Sonic game, sometimes, confused the information in the Sonic timeline.
In Sonic Generations, all the music came past Sonic games with Sonic Spinball (not canon), Sonic 3D Blast (canon) and Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1(canon).
I made the Sonic timeline in: the principal series(with the spin-offs) and the 8-bits series.
I always considered the beginning of the timeline like this:

(Tails is kidnapped on South Island and Sonic goes to rescue him)

This is coming from someone who grew up loving the characters and the story, I don't care anymore (at least not much) Reasons being Sega/Sonic Team doesn't care anymore which honestly kind of angers. All they care about is money,Classic Sonic and trying to bring in new fans and little kids. They think all of the early 2000s games were bad so they ignore those in my opinion underrated games (excluding 06, sorry Prem.)
The plots were cared for in the early 2000s by writers like Mr. Shiro Meakawa (probably said his name wrong) but now that HE'S gone (and I heard he wants to come back) we've got Pontacc and Graff. Iizuka hired them because stupid, FREAKING critics that don't mean crap said that the old 2000 games were bad. So Iizuka wanted to make the Sonic stories super child friendly and stupid, something the series was NOT meant to be, even back in the FREAKING Classic days Sonic was and was supposed to be more story oriented and more mature and action packed than Mario was but look now, in terms of story, Mario's getting better at story, the Paper Mario games along with the Mario &/Luigi plots aren't exactly works of art but at least they tried and they did great and added more to Mario usually wacky world, sometimes actually being dark, and I know Super Mario Odyssey isn't exactly a story filled game but it was well detailed, the Tour guide papers informing you of the locations Mario visits, plus, adding more to Mario's World.
Why is Sonic like this now, he was a lot better than this and I don't care what anyone says about Sonic 06's, Black Knight's or Shadow the Hedgehog's story, they were kinda great and fun. At least the writer(s) tried and actually WANTED to make good Sonic stories unlike what we've got now.
I miss the REAL Sonic, 1991/1999-2009, the Sonic that was cool and did awesome and amazing things.

Agreed completely Izuki 101. The critics who bashed Sonic Adventure & the early 2000s games must have been braindead. Both the Dreamcast & 4kids eras were known for having great storytelling. 2010 started the worst decade of Sonic's career & 3 consecutive Sonic 06 games would have hurt the series less than Pontac & Graff who turned it into a complete joke. Shadow's story may have been hard to follow, although it was awesome. 06 & Black Knight had great stories, it sucks we can't have that again.

Tre Massicotte If Sega wants Sonic to be profitable again, then that version of Sonic will have to come back. Mania and Forces just barely scraped past the million mark in sales, while games like Heroes and Unleashed were multi-million sellers. Telling fans to deal with it is basically asking for customers to spend their money elsewhere, which is what they started doing since Lost World.
Izuki 101 I hear you. Its tough watching your favorite series become a shell of its former self, but I don't think you should give up on Sonic just yet. Wait and see what the next mainline Sonic game will be like. Sonic Team put more emphasis on the story in Forces. If they combine that with better gameplay and a longer game, then we could be in for something good. Is is likely? Eh...probably not. But I would at least hold out until the next game.
Um. Yuji Naka wasn’t involved in the development of Sonic CD. That game was led by Ohshima, who remained in Japan after Sonic 1. Naka and Yasuhara went to work for STI afterwards, both for different reasons. Even though CD was treated as a follow-up to the original game by the people making it, it was never meant to be called Sonic 2.
There is no canon with these new games. They break continuity just as much as they call back to it. Therefore the canon isn't changing because none of the new games are canon.

Black Knight still fit into the continuity, although it was more of Sonic's last hurrah before the series went & screwed over everything. Unleashed though was probably the Climax for the series.

SEGASONIC, Eggman’s first attempt at capturing animals
SONIC CD, Eggman tries to get the time stones and erase Sonic from existence, he didn’t know about the Choas Emeralds yet
SONIC 1, Eggman enslaves more animals, and Sonic tries to stop him, Metal Sonic was also destroyed after CD so Eggman had to make a new one from the ground up he also begins to make the the death egg and (in my mind at least) he gets the emeralds
SONIC 2, Sonic finds an two tailed fox who rescues him from falling and the two become good friends (of course this is Tails) the two fly up with Sonic’s biplane to the Death Egg which Eggman powered with the last emerald from West Side Island then they beat Eggman with Sonic using the Emeralds to become super and the death egg falls. (Note the Metal Sonic fought is an early version of Metal Mkll)
SONIC GENERATIONS: Classic doesn’t recognize modern Amy and doesn’t know the rest of them
S3&K, The Death Egg Falls onto Angel Island and Eggman convinces Knuckles that sonic stole the emeralds so he knocks the emeralds out of Sonic and takes them to the super emerald shrine. Meanwhile Eggman stole the Master Emerald used it to power the death egg and Angel island fell SLOWLY later in his adventure Sonic finds the super emerald shrine and takes them with him, Eggman then destroys the shrine thinking the emeralds were there Later while Knuckles is fighting with Mecha Sonic (Metal Mk11 0.2) this rendition has added features after the horrible failure of Metal Mkll 0.1 Sonic and Tails come and help Knuckles, then the echidna realizes his mistake, he stays at the shrine while Tails and Sonic fly up to defeat Eggman. They’re about to break from the atmosphere so Sonic goes Super but instead goes Hyper he beats Eggman, then after the Super Emeralds revert back to Chaos Emeralds which is why we don’t see Hyper Sonic again cause the shrine was destroyed
KNUCKLES CHAOTIX, Same events as the game though at the end Mighty leaves to find his friend Ray, Knuckles leaves and does Knuckles stuff, and the CHAOTIX goes broke and becomes a detective agency
Sonic The Fighters and R: same events but without Knuckles and Metal as CHAOTIX is going on and Metal is at Eggman’s Angel island base otherwise, Sonic is challenged by Eggman to a fight, where he hires Bean Bark and Fang, Sonic meets Honey on the way and then she leaves, after Sonic wins with Tails and Amy in tow Eggman Challenges them to a race to get the emeralds, Sonic, Amy, and Tails win easy
Sonic Mania, Same events as the game though at the end Eggman keeps the phantom ruby waiting for a person to be a host for the weapon, but for now he uses it to erase Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Ray, and Mighty’s minds of the events of Sonic Mania, then captures Mighty and Ray and robotizes them into Orbot and Cubot (Think about it)
SONIC ADVENTURE, Sonic, Tails, Amy, & Knuckles go on an adventure (ha, ha see what I did) to Central City, the rests plays out as it does in SA1

SONIC 06: Same story but didn’t Solaris the candle due to Elsie’s whining which is why Silver’s world is still a trash hole and the festival of the sun happens in the last cutscene

Sonic Forces: Same events except the OC is Honey the Cat and Classic is transported to his dimension ready to travel the world with his friends seeing Modern’s world, their first stop is station city. Knuckles calls Honey rookie cause he never met her before.

Iizuka has no idea what to do with the characters/universe. Honestly, he shouldn't be in charge of that shit. Get someone else to do it. Iizuka seperated Classic Sonic just so they can keep using him as a crutch, which wouldn't be needed if they just made a good fucking game! The franchise has been pretty consistent up until Forces (I think that's when Iizuka started the whole "two worlds" canon BS... before that they had established a continuity and universe. There was no "two worlds" canon, no Mobius, look at all the previous games and you'll notice that all the games are somewhat connected. Forces is the most disconnected because it ignores all things that were previously established. Where are the humans? Where's G.U.N? Why is Green Hill part of a landmass instead of being on an island? First they can't be consistent with gameplay, now they can't be consistent with the fucking canon!
To me, the Sonic canon only includes games that were made for and released on Sega hardware. Once Sega started making Sonic games for Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft consoles, that's where the canon ended for me. So my timeline is "Sonic the Hedgehog", "SegaSonic the Hedgehog", "Sonic CD", "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", "Sonic the Hedgehog 3", "Sonic and Knuckles", "Knuckles Chaotix", "Sonic Adventure", and "Sonic Adventure 2". I'd also consider adding some of the spinoffs (3D Blast, Spinball, Fighters, etc) and Master System/Game Gear games ("Sonic the Hedgehog" on Master System, "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" on Master System, "Sonic Chaos", "Triple Trouble", etc) to the timeline as well, but just not sure where I'd put them right now. However, for me, nothing that was originally created for non-Sega hardware will ever be canon in my mind.

I've always been a fan of mecha sonic he's always looked so cool and menacing( of course super mario bros Z also contributed)
Personally, I belive that Sonic 4 is canon in the first timeline. After Generations and stuff, the Sonic from the 2nd timeline experiences Sonic Mania, instead of Sonic 4.
And as a bit of personal headcanon, the Phantom Ruby was only created because of the mess in the timelines Generations made, since it brought back erased timelines (06), erased humans from the planet (I mean, besides Eggman, no other human has been seen or mentioned after Generations, even though they existed consistently throughout the dreamcast era, and up to Unleashed), split the main timeline in 2, fused timelines that didn't belong in the same world (seen as Blaze, who is supposedly from another dimension, remembers her time in the future of Sonic's timeline, or how Sonic remembers the events of Secret Rings, which is a spinoff), amongst other things (like erasing Cream from space and time... just think about it).
So, after the Time Eater wrecked up the timeline, the Phantom Ruby was created in a similar fashion to the Chaos Emeralds, however, instead of helping Light Gaia stop Dark Gaia, the Phantom Ruby's purpose is to keep the timeline intact, hence why it has its many reality-altering skills, like teleportation (as seen throughout all of Sonic Mania), ability to travel between 2 separate timelines, create and erase things (like in the Sonic Forces comic about Infinite's origin), create a void in the spacetime continuum (Null Space) so it can discard the things that weren't supposed to exist, and most important of all, the power of retconning.
I mean, it makes sense. The Ruby never existed pre-generations, AKA the game that messes up the timeline most. Additionally, its power over the universe, like shown in Sonic Mania Plus, is perfect for retconning, essentially erasing timelines that don't add up together. So... I guess the Sonic timeline's inconsistency makes a bit more sense now. It IS inconsistent. It broke itself so much that the universe sent a new mcguffin to alter reality until it was right again, and if nothing worked, erase that timeline and start over.
The cannon followed through from the start all the way to Shadow the Hedgehog + Sonic Chronicles, but now everything, including the characters, is shit, and nowhere near as good as before.

There are some problems with the way you do this video. You say you never really thought of Knuckles Chaotix as canon before, even though the characters from that game appear in other games, yet as soon as Mania Plus came out, you considered SegaSonic as canon because it introduced Mighty and Ray. Only THEN, do you consider Knuckles Chaotix to be canon. And when it comes to a game selling well to be canon, you say Sonic 4 can't be canon due to how poorly it did, but that brings me back to the two previous games, which both didn't exactly do well AND you consider Sonic The Fighters to be canon. If you want to have theories consistent with each other, try making what you say in your videos more consistent.

Honestly, the only reason i believe CD takes place before sonic 2 is because ever since Sonic 2, Sonic & Tails have became best friends and always go on adventures together all the time and Tails is always in the games (The main series ones at least). But tails wasn't in CD, making me believe CD IS before Sonic 2.
I believe Sonic 4 happens after Generations (from Modern's perspective). It fixes the entire timeline except for the fact it exploded before in Fighters, which makes sense because time is screwed on Little Planet.

I suspect: Multiverse. Hardly any two games take place in exactly the same universe, and each show has its own universe. Characters may remember events from other games, because variations of these events may have happened within their universe. Also time-travel fun making its own branch universes, ... Kind of a cop-out, but meh. ( Likewise, Forces may exist in a timeline where the events of 2006 played out differently, so the ending events never happened, but other parts did. )

I seen why people might disagree with sega changing the statement of " classic sonic from a different time", to " from a different dimension", since that sonic in forces references generation, but I got a little theory that could suggest why sega isn't wrong.
I believe in generations classic sonic was either in or after the events of sonic 3 and knuckles meaning after the stage sky sanctuary and the death egg robot boss, everything classic sonic is experiencing is new as he's seeing his "old future" as so is classic eggman. So when classic sonic,tails and eggman were sent back to their present time, classic eggman must of reflected on his future failures and so decided to change his plans to cause the event of mania and not adventure dx ,and since that sonic forces modern sonic has never experienced mania, that could mean that they are then 2 separate people because of their 2 separate timelines that you can also call "dimensions". Also to back up my statement, you suggest that sonic likes to "borrow" a lot of things from dragon ball z , so if I were to put my statement into super with trunks, it would make 100% sense shown in episode 60 where future trunks tells present trunks how time travel really works in their universe. That's my theory of why classic sonic in forces is from another dimension, and I hop you enjoyed it.
IF Metal Sonic from Knuckles Chaotix is a another Metal Sonic (not of the Sonic CD one), so Sonic 4 can be canon (in timeline one). Because, Knuckles Chaotix will happen, Sonic The Fighters, and so, Sonic 4 Episode 1. In Episode 2, Eggman will bring back Metal Sonic (from Sonic CD), using the time stones (because, the true ending of Sonic CD, is with Sonic destroying that things that i forget the name, in the past, and not collecting the time stones).
Simple reason, SEGA don't care anymore, like ok up to 06 timeline did make sense but after that, they just didn't care anymore, most of the games feel like soft reboot of universe, completely new story that doesn't take an account of events from past entries, then came Generations and made everything even worse with timeline split even further into classic and modern cannon, at this point making a one whole thing out of these shattered pieces of cannon would demand some crazy ass lore behind it all, something SEGA definitely don't care enough about to really bother, so with every new game the problem will keep growing, like seriously to fix this they would need really solid story writer, or maybe even team os such and good idea how to sum up everything into something that makes sense, what seems unlikely considering how low budget tea was behind the last instalment into franchise :P
Anyways as long as shifting cannon might be fun to mess around with it's actually bad if you want to build lore on it, cuz then without a solidly set timeline, you can set events well in it, it's like trying to build a house on sand, it gonna fell apart cuz the foundation isn't really strong enough to support it

for a theory for why silver sonic exists in the canon of sonic 2 despite eggman having created metal sonic (while ignoring sonic 4 in this lore) is that eggman simpley didnt have the time to recreate a second metal sonic "Properly" between the events of sonic CD's ending and the point in Sonic 2 where the player reaches sky fortress - forcing Eggman to fall back on using a un-tested model (or an older prototype build he just left collecting dust on the shelf when he got bored and moved onto the next version, the one that was used in CD,.)
because who's to say that he didnt start building one version and then changed his plans up for the more advance version back when he still had access to the time stones to help him "speed up the process" when he made the one seen in sonic CD?
thats one thing folks dont even take into consideration, the time travel aspects of Sonic CD go Both ways here. yes sonic beats eggman, we get to move on from CD to sonic 2, but, how long would it have taken eggman to make; literally, his best creation ever? - Eggman's literal "magnum opus" a robot equal to Sonic in speed and abilities? It's literally the only bot he's made that's ever stood any form of a chance against sonic, could keep up with him, and in some cases even surpass Sonic when the circumstances are correct.
Seems to me like something that obviously would take a lot of time and effort to create, and might have even been impossible to do in such a short amount of time if he hadn't had access to the time stones on the Little Planet. Of course we know how "sonic went back in time using the last time stone, to go back further in time and collect all the other time stones and finally undue eggman's progress on the little planet, ect ect ect.
So, Silver Sonic can still be a prototype for Metal Sonic, despite being part of sonic 2 and lore wise, seen after Metal Sonic. Ya know though, I haven't heard anyone even consider as much on the matter. But how about your thoughts on the matter in the here and now; years later?

The main issue people have with the canon constantly changing is that there is no true canon. It's bad enough when Aaron comes out with his "everything is canon" statement. I know he's trying to make light of it but it doesn't change the fact that the Sonic franchise as a whole is a huge mess. When they (Iizuka) keep changing stuff around to fit their own personal headcanon it causes massive issues and plotholes going forward. Not only that, but it adds onto the idea that Sonic has an identity crisis. It gets worse with each entry and shows no sign of getting better. Constantly changing canon isn't a good thing, it just proves the series has no central identity anymore. Like the "two worlds" thing, it contradicts many of the previous games dating back from Sonic 1 all the way to Zero Gravity. It was a recent concept that was added into the lore half hazardly post-Unleashed. Since then the games have taken place on two seperate planets according to Iizuka. Which is a completely idiotic thing to do. Now they are mix-mashing locations that aren't even on said planet. (Dusty Desert is on Sonic's world despite being in Sonic 06) The way it's explained is that Sonic and co. travel between planets through a "magical gate connected by a magical bridge that only they can access". We aren't supposed to know about this or it's existence, the only way we do is through leaks within SEGA itself. How am I supposed to know or care about what's going on if I don't even know what planet the game is set on? This isn't the first time they unnecessarily retconned things either. Back in the day, it was explained that why we no longer see Tails and Knuckles go super anymore is because only male hedgehogs can go super apparently. But obviously this isn't true since the classic games, Mania and Adventure 2 contradict that. There's a line about Knuckles wanting to turn super during the final battle or something. But since that's the dumbest excuse anyone has ever heard, they copped it out for an EVEN dumber excuse. It's now stated that Tails and Knuckles have super forms but have lost the ability to use them. That's no even an excuse that's just fucking lazy writing on their part. The continuity is just a fucking mess. At this point the only way I can see them fixing it is if they retcon aspects of certain games, or trying to pull another soft reboot.
Shrug. Whatever gets a callback and whatever clearly makes sense it's canon. Also the moon thing, while stupid, makes sense since if the moon is blown in half, all of it's rotation, gravitational pull, etc. Would be changed. Whether or not it sounds smart doesn't really matter since it's a probability. The moon rotates anyways, we don't know if losing half the moon would make it rotate faster.
I think that sonic adventure 2 ins´t canon, because it seems that sonic games are happening in other universes, in sA2 there are a lot of people, but in sonic forces there are only anthropomorphic animals, except eggman of course, which made us to believer that sonic games are constantly changing between universes. can you make a video about my thought? by the way, I agree with you,
They all live in Sonic Land, one side of the world where South Island is thats where anipromphic animals live, in another side thats where the places like Station Square is where the humans are. Simple as that.
Here's how I think the early portion of the timeline works:
1) Sonic 1 - introduce Sonic, Eggman, the Chaos Emeralds
2) Sonic 2 - introduce Tails, establish the seventh emerald and super transformations
3) Sonic CD - introduce Amy and Metal Sonic, teach Sonic how he can impact the world by showing him a possible dark future if he ever becomes careless or apathetic. This builds him up to be even more heroic. Also, imo, Tails isn't present since he was using the emeralds to build his radar that'll be used right before 3&K starts.
4) Sonic 3 & Knuckles - introduce Knuckles, the Master Emerald, and Super Emeralds.
5) Knuckles' Chaotix - introduce Espio, Vector, Charmy, and Mighty. Have Knuckles be more outgoing by traveling to Carnival Island (possibly some inspiration he got from Sonic's personality). And establish that Metal Sonic can transform.
As for Sonic 4, Segasonic, and Mania Plus, I'm comfortable with them being in a separate universe alongside the other 2010's games that don't work as an overall narrative; especially with continuity errors like Blaze remembering Sonic 06 and the same Classic Sonic being BOTH from the past and a different universe. The writers admitted in interviews that they don't know much of the franchise. I'd rather have everything, at this point, released after Sonic and the Black Knight to be in an alternate timeline. If there's going to be a new full 3D game that's faithful to something along the lines of Adventure 1, 2, and Unleashed, then I can't take it that seriously if it's in the same continuity as a mess like Forces.
