I listened to Old Stories on a loop for months after I first heard it. I love it so much that I'm literally crafting a large chunk of my years-long DnD campaign so that I can justify using the song for a specific story beat. In other words, I've made a deal with myself that I can't use it (or any track from Abyss) without truly earning it.
I didn’t listen to it that much (I did listen to it a good bit), but I also thought a DnD campaign set in this world would be dope. I never actually got around to attempting it, but someday I hope to make a good campaign inspired by the setting. I know there’s a book online with a lot of details already done for DnD.
I felt this way about half of the season 2 ost lol. I can't possibly count how many times I have heard Gravity, VOH or Old Stories because I think thats all I listened to for months
This might seem a bit dramatic, but Old Stories is one of my top or maybe even most favorite pieces of music of all time.I listen to it primarily but also the MiA OST at least once a week.
"What I discovered in the darkness of despair was not light, but another darkness. But why is this darkness so warm? You won't miss it, my own little darkness.."
16:12 Pretty ironic that you are telling about the brightness of the song, and I agree with you, but the character in the center of the plot of that season, who is very young (and I associate the voice in the song with her) is being called "My warm darkness" by other character
At 12:20 you mentioned how the reverb makes it sound as if the song is sung in a secluded cave environment and that is dead on. The character meant to be singing this is very isolated indeed.
Definitely one of my favorite tracks from any OST in recent times. Listened to it a ton last year, like once or a few times every week for a quarter of the year. The song evokes so much emotion through the music and vocals. Makes me cry quite often but it is really beautiful.
Absolutely loved your reaction and analysis! Would love to see you react to my two favorites from Made in Abyss: “Transcendence & Hanezeve” and “Belaf’s Lullaby”. KP’s scores for Abyss are simply put my favorite scores for anything I’ve ever heard.
It's impossible for me not to get emotional listening to this song. Every listen I notice some new feeling that I think Kevin was trying to illicit from me. Incredibly talented individual
First video I watched from you, and man I love how you pause and go back to the part you just listened, it makes a kind of build up for the next part. I love it. And it's my most favourite OST of all time, very glad you enjoyed it ^^
Feels like the song and the vocals are a plead to go back to better times and it gets progressively more desperate until it becomes a whimpering resignation
it is tho isnt it? EVERY young adventurer, or rather, diver, is youthfully intense enough to delve into this beautiful hell of a world, for the sake of curiosity alone, the abyss. and ill tell you this, kevin penkin thought out all of this(source- his interviews like trash taste), the room size, the cast size, choice of instruments , everything to accurately capture the essence of the divers and the abyss, the voice is definitely the innocent youth, in the abyss, the orchestra, perfect representation, the anime itself.. is beautiful, probably my favourite, cuz its so unique and beautiful, when it concludes man... if you have a brain, and can think, youll know its gonna be smth else.... where do the wierd things in the abyss come from? where do the relics come from? reg? lyza? 7th layer? then theres hints to what the answer could be, 2000 years, the philosophy of the show, its not sci fi, isnt really real world logic ... its almost religious, its perfect
The first time I listened to this I didn’t actually like it that much. But then I put on headphones and turned up the volume 😂 what I would give to hear this live in performance. Really like the MIA reactions! Would love to see more. My personal recommendations out of the ones you haven’t heard: (More intense vibes btw) Dark reg nightmare fuel Prayer and immolation Faputa San Ken the three sages The rumble of scientific triumph If you could do a video one day on any one of these that would be great, I know a lot of people like dark reg and scientific triumph for reactions the most. But if you want to hear something really unique from the soundtrack there is also “transcendence and hanazeve”, also a lot of people react to this. Looking forward to another one!!!
This song literally sounds like crying your heart out

Lol, same but also I still listen to it. Not on loop but conservatively at least once or twice a week.

After watching made in abyss this ost hits you differently.

and then one gets to their backstory, and its anything BUT bright.

Finally, i've waited a long time for this.

Absolutely enjoyed this reaction, keep up the good work man 👍
Tsukushi needs to cook more, we need more Made in Abyss!!
"Youthful Intensity" huh? if only it came from a show that kind of represented this...

A melody to which the words get stuck in your throat and you just want to burst into tears repeating: Lord, Lord...
Do endless embrace next
Amazing
more like tragic stories in context.
