Humane dispatch of a 280 cm bull shark using Blitz-Kerner captive bolt tool

The blitz-kerner captive bolt tool was found to yield a Humane Dispatch Index score of 4.2 (out of a maximum of 5) for bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas), with the third highest overall average score of 4.6/5 over 9 species of sharks during field trials. This shark was stunned with a 12 gauge shotgun, allowing it to be bought on board, but it required captive bolt on the deck for final dispatch. Captive bolt has been shown to be a "gold standard" for dispatch of large sharks, and the method is recommended for all sharks over 1.2 meters (4 feet) long including sharks up to at least 3.6 meters (12 feet).
