You will need
A medium black turnip
2-3 tablespoons sugar or honey
If you are diabetic or you follow ketogenic or a low-carb diet, you can use xyltitol or erythritol instead.

My German Grandma chopped onions, covered with honey or sugar, cover bowl and let stand on counter for a few hours. For the folks who don't like the onions, they would just take the syrup and it helps sooth cough and congestion.
Honey, lemon and ginger juice of one lemon withis squeezed into a glass, add 3 tablespoons of honey and pour a packet (5-10 g) ginger. Stir to a homogeneous mixture and drink up to 5 times a day.
My second favorite is
Honey Lemon and glycerin.
Steps with lemon and honey are the same instead of ginger are put 3-5 tablespoons of glycerin from the pharmacy. As a kid, it was my favorite.

I have not seen black turnips in my country. Are they absolutely required, or do you know if could one achieve the same cough-reducing qualities by using a regular turnip? Thank you.
I can't find black turnips anywhere will a regular turnip work
