No instructions by my family doctor. Pharmacist rushed me through as well. Wow, this video was so great!! Thank you so much. Especially that there is no taste at all, just a slight taste in the back of my throat. Gargle, swish and spit. Several times is good. Very very helpful video. Especially how to inhale it. Apprecuared.
I was annoyed that my doctor only told me what to get and didn't explain anything after. These tips are more than helpful. Thank you doctor, and get well soon everyone.
For a first time user of any inhalation device, this information was both informative and invaluable to me! Thank you so much for explaining in simple terms, it is much appreciated.
For me the lack of feel and taste of the powder is the main issue of this inhaler. Cause how can one tell if a dose has been taken and the inhaler isn't- for instance broken... :/
I understand this can be an issue, however if you are using it correctly and feeling the effect/controlling your condition then it shouldn't be a problem . But I can see why you may have some trust issues regarding its use. Do discuss this with your doctor if it is really concerning you
true. this is my first time to take the inhaler and i managed to take 4 doses because i thought it was a flop due to no taste and the number counter did not budge. beginners can easily overdose because of this problem.
Thank you very much for this excellent presentation how to use this medecine! I.m a new member of the "allergic asthmatics club" and I.m just starting to use this inhaler. You helped me a lot. All the best, greetings from Belgrade, Serbia!
Thank you! Your content is very informative. I've been using this for a year and it works really well. Very helpful esp. whenever I'm having sudden asthma attack due to pollen or dust exposure. Symbicort is both rescuer and anti inflammatory drug which saves me anytime anywhere. The best kind of treatment given to me so far
This video was really helpful! I wish I had did a bit of video research to visually see how to use this inhaler properly. I followed the instructions that came in the box with the inhaler but after watching this video, I now know where I went wrong and that I took 2 x doses more than I was suppose to. Thank you for your video, it was really educational and beneficial for me!
Thank you I've been prescribed this for an annoying hacking whooping cough. I don't have asthma, bronchitis or COPD. Even when the practitioner showed me how to use it, it was more informative watching your video. I was told to inhale slowly, hold for 10secs, exhale, 2x in the morning and 2x in the evening.
Thank you so much for demonstrating to us the proper way of using our inhaler. I was so confused even though it was explained to me by my pharmacist. I needed to know to use my medicine so that i can be confident its working for me the right way. Thank you, much appreciate it. ❤
Thank you so much for this video. I was thinking I wasn’t getting my dosage because the count was not going down and no taste to the powder. Very informative video.
Thank you Dr Stefan I just started on this inhaler yesterday but was confused how to use it, no doughty the pharmacist did explain to me. After watching your video and hearing your explanation I'm now confident in using it, and it really helped me.
Thank you doctor ..at first i dont know how to use but when i visited youtube i saw ur video how to used this turbuhaler coz i dont really quickly get the explanation of my family doctor coz he is spanish so i decided to visit youtube for an english explanation nor demonstration..thanks Doc.
Thank you so much, the pharmacist was too busy to tell me how to use it, and watching other videos didn’t preemptively answer my concerns about not being able to tell if I used it correctly.
Yes, I agree. The explanation about the dose counter window was good. The indicator on mine when I first opened it up had only white notches so I didn't know if the dose was dispensing correctly. I haven't used it enough for the number increments to show in the window yet. This video explains it better than my neighborhood pharmacist.
Thank you so much for your really informative video. Really appreciate it. The only issue with this device is the lack of taste or feel. Glad you mentioned about the scratchy feel at the back. I'm from Malaysia and glad I was able to find your video
Glad to see I wasn’t the only one a bit disconcerted by the lack of taste of feel of powder… wasn’t sure I was actually getting a dose. Thank you for your excellent video Dr Stefan
Great instructional video!! Just a quick question, what happens if after you inhale your dose accidentaly turn it clockwise? do you leave it like this and just turn it counterclockwise when you use it after 12 hours?
You very well explained and demonstrated how to use it ...all my queries in mind were answered..Thank you very very much, Doc. You are the only video where I got the clearest and complete information that I needed to know... Thank you so much....
In the case of Symbicort, it's quite confusing. There are apparently two types of inhalers they offer. One is a dry powder inhaler called the turbuhaler, which Dr. Stefan is demonstrating in his videos. The other is a metered-dose inhaler, called a rapihaler. They both offer the same combination of drugs in the same amounts, but the rapihaler is dispensed with a gas called hydrofluoroalkane. The user breathes in this not-so-benign-sounding gas along with the drugs. Apparently, the turbuhaler is not offered in the U.S.
you first rotated it anti-clockwise and then clockwise here and we heard the click sound at the end but the instruction leaflet present inside the box says 'it does not matter which way you turn first', so does it matter or not? can click sound be heard first or it should be heard at the end of the cycle?
From what I've I read it can only ever load and hold a single dose, and that will remain loaded until used. You cannot double up in one go. It will only ever allow you to inhail 1 dose no matter how many times you twist it.
Thank you so much for this explanation! I was worried that my inhaler isn't working... All say 2 clicks but the click sound comes just 1 time... Even the count track! So tysm for such a great demonstration!
YESSS !!! This is the video I needed. At first I wasn't sure if I was following instructions right. Now this reinforces that I am finally 1/2 way through doing it correctly. Thank You. Mines is for Sarcoidosis and I inhale 2 times in morning and 2 times at night - about 12 hours apart. This is on top of Steroids and Anti-biotics - which due to relieving the pain and hours of coughing at times means the steroid has been adjusted to a lower dose now. And now I know why I sound like Barry White now.
Thank you Dr.Stefan,I've just used my new Symbicort inhaler thanks for your informative video!don't think I could have done it so well without it! My "leaflet that was included has very fine print,& not very patient friendly!
Thank you, my doctor did not even show me how to use it, I don't mind about the taste as long as I can breathe, I don't really use it until I needed it, my asthma is very bad once I got an attack
Hi doctor, I cannot forcefully inhale it as it is too difficult for me while i have an asthma attack. Please suggest me what should i do.. Btw Amazing explanation..❤
Is this right ?? because the first time i use it doesnt turn clockwise not at all so i turn it counter clockwise and hear a click and turn it clockwise to return to its original position...
I know this is an old video but just in case you still look. I'm curious about something. I had a pulmonary embolism and they informed me I had copd at the hospital. My family doctor had prescribed ventolin and one puff morning and night of simbicort as I was waiting to see a specialist to find out what I had, I wasn't feeling great, very tired when I had the pulmonary embolism and called an ambulance, I was getting worse every day. At the hospital they increased the simbicort to twice morning and night so 4 puffs a day I also had respimat and blood thinners of course and gave me a spacer to use with the ventolin. When I finally saw the specialist months later, she increased it to 4 puffs twice a day so 8 puffs a day and respimat and my hair started falling out a lot. She switched me to Trelegy and my hair stopped falling out. She tells me its impossible that it was the simbicort but I find it odd indeed that as soon as I stopped simbicort 8 puffs my hair stopped falling out. So was it the simbicort? I also read pulmonary embolisms can give you shortness of breath for months or even years so with a family history of asthma (father & brother) how do I know whether my extreme shortness of breath upon exertion but not at rest is copd, asthma, embolism, or a combination that might have a chance of improving? I get a ten minute appointment with the specialist and she says she doesn't have time to answer questions so I don't know where to ask. Thank you in advance and I'm learning more from your videos than from my specialist.
This video was very helpful. I had an asthma flair up for 2 days before i went to urgent care. And was on a flovent which didnt work for me at all over the 2 month period i was on it. So he prescribed pulmicort for me but didnt explain any of it. Then when i picked up the prescription the pharmacist didnt give me a consultation on it he just check me out and sent me on my way. So i was fully not prepared for it. Read the instructions, i didnt think it worked so i had to look up videos and then i was finally able to taste it so i know for sure i got that dose but hopefully this one works for me. Im also new to asthma i got it after getting covid really badly in 2019 so i am still learning triggers and how to manage it when it gets bad.
I just started this inhaler and I don’t like it. I would prefer to have a taste so I know I got some. I wasted a few doses getting use to it even took a second dose because I didn’t think it worked. Thanks for sharing this video I can refer to it. Luckily I won’t be taking it for long.
If you're having an asthma attack you won't be saved by this thing, you better have an extra salbutamol inhaler. They say this is a reliever, it's barely even that!
Thank you Doctor! that's very helpful. However, from your professional perspective, do you think adding a feedback system on a DPI that tells patients how long should they breathe ( for quantifying the standard of "depth") , other than sound feedback for forceful breath (over 40L/min), could reducing training complexity? Ok it seems I am breathing to slow . Does it mean that the dose stayed in the inhaler because I didn’t breath so deep? What happen to this loaded unused powder if I will load tomorrow new dose , will it cumulate ?

If you click twice, you inhale two doses.
I don't think it matters which side you inhale from, as long as there was a click to release that powder.
I use an aerochamber/spacer. I would recommend the use of an aerochamber/spacer.
I used the spacer when using my old type inhalers, blue and brown inhaler
With this inhaler Symbicort, I was told don't use the spacer, as this inhaler is a powder not an aerosol
and you get correct dose by just using the inhaler without the spacer
Not sure how accurate this information is
