    How can you release the lock ring on the left arm? I can adjust the crank with an Allen key up to a point where the lock ring has to be loosened

    Glad I saw this video before ordering! I was hoping to use my existing Stages power meter but the XTR left crank arm attachment is completely different! Why have they done away with the two pinch bolts? That's annoying!

    For the chainring lockring.. it isn't exactly 1pc like in this video. It is 3pcs. There is a thin metal spacer on the arm side, then the main lockring, and then a small rubber/metal spacer ring seal. If it comes off the lockring during maintenence, the metal side goes against the lockring, and rubber side goes against the bottom bracket after talking with Shimano.

    Great video, note Shimano advise spacer can go on either left or right side. If chainring needs more clearance from frame then put it on drive side otherwise it’s as you have detailed.

    Thanks for the video. Very helpful. I’m trying to remove my M9120 crankset. Can you comment on how to remove the non chain drive-side arm? How far do you unscrew the 8mm hex before you can remove the crank arm?

      Undo the preload then unscrew the 8mm till it spins with ease and the arm should remove with little effort.

    I am unable to remove the no-drive side arm from my bike: I loosen the 8mm allen, it turns about 1/3 revolution and binds there. I assume it is supposed to be a self-removing crank (the bolt pushes against the serrated part of the crank arm. I noticed on a previous comment you said to undo the preload first, is this right hand or left hand thread? Thanks.

    Thx for posting. Trying to decide between 9120 or a carbon crank (like a RF Next), given less weight and stiffness for carbon but potentially more durable aluminum XTR. Any thoughts?

      I have personally stopped riding carbon cranks as they don't last with type of riding I do.

      Yes, any Shimano compatible 11speed chain will work. I always liked the XT CN-HG701

    Hi how to remove the none drive crank ? Aside from the 8mm allen key, what SPECIAL TOOL do i need to use?

      Hi Eric, you only need to use an 8mm to install or remove it from the bike, the 8mm nut is designed to stay in the non drive crank arm and a 11 spline bit socket is used if it needs to be replaced.

      @@jedmtb Hi Jed MTB, im quite hesitant to do it, could you show us in video. For the tools i do even have d park torque wrench, however.....after freeing the 8mm nut with few turns it seems d 11 spline socket was preventing it to be loosen more? Sorry i just wanna be safe than sorry just to avoid unwanted expenses when doing PMS, will appreciate your video tutorial... please.

    Have you ever situation where preload adjuster get loose during bikening? I noticed that sram has a little bolt to tighten preload system shimano don't:/

      Not any issues with it coming loose, I check it every few rides as I've had problems with the sram and RF ones in the past as the adjusters normally crack around the bolt. Replaced them with metal adjusters to fix the issue.

      No, it's just for the chainring lock ring.

    Hello i'm planning to upgrade my XT M8100 Crank to XTR's, I have a 52mm Chainline BB Shell Measurement of 68. Should i Buy the M9100 or the M9120, Thanks so Much

      I would go with the M9120 as it has a similar Q-Factor (168mm) vs the XT’s 172mm

    It does not say in the manual which directions for the 8mm Allen ... I guess it's normal threaded?

      Hi, it’s standard thread, right to tighten and left to loosen. It can be very hard to remove

    Have you ever heart about play on the crank in an up and down movement? So not from the left to the right but just the left crank arm who has play on every pedal stroke. Like 0,5cm of movement. Anybody please help:)

    How can M9100 and M9120 having 2 different Q Factors be both boost chainline spacing?

      They just extend the crank arms out 3mm on each side but keep the chainring in the same place.

      @@jedmtb Ah I see, is Q Factor more of a concern for road cyclists? I've never heard of it being much of a topic for MTB. Is Q Factor dependent on one's hip width and how far apart their feet is set?

      @@GokkunGuru Road cyclist normally like narrower q factors for aerodynamic reasons, yes you pick the size based on how wide your foot stance is.

    my xtr M9120 crankset is in perfect alignment but the non drive side seems need more extra spacer

    Can you use the FC-M9120-B2 on a non boost frame?

      Yes, Shimano claims that it will work on a non-boost frame, the chainline is 52mm and the optimal for non-boost is about 49mm so you would probably get some extra noise on the largest cogs.

      @@alvingalut1492 They are the same crank arms, the FC-M9120-1 is a single ring and the FC-M9120-B2 is a double ring.

      @@jedmtb because there is a good deal I saw fir tge -B2 cranks online. I am thinking to buy It and just take out the double chainring and install a single 34T chainring. Instead of buying a crankarm withoit chainring at an expensive price. What do you think? Should I go for the double and just change it to single chainring? All I am worried is if there is a diff between the -B2 and -1.

      The Renthal stealth is matte with glossy logos, it just looks black from a distance, I find Renthal bars too stiff for me but others seem to enjoy how direct they feel, I don't have 31.8 stem to test the Hope bars unfortunately, oneup also make a nice bar as well.

    Thanks for the info, I can’t believe there are ZERO instructions included in the box. At the very least there should be a checklist of the items and what they do. I can’t believe Shimano charges this much money and can’t supply some basic instructions. The paperwork in the box is just some useless garbage.

      Yeah, that is a shame. Especially because you can get *excellent* detailed instructions in PDF on si.shimano.com - the "DM" one. Not sure why they don't just print them off and include them in the box.

      @@PetrSedlacek They already have so much paperwork in there so I am happy they don't generate even more waste. For some parts the DM is very long. They should just include a card with a QR code or some information where you can find the DM.

      @@Freddy3792 You're right, I agree that would be better. The paperwork they do include is usually pretty useless (although it might be required by law). So a QR on the box with a link to the PDF would be ideal.

      agreed. it's part of the marketing sadly. buying an XTR crankset is like going to Mercedes dealership, or similar luxury experience. maybe someday these companies (and their customers, we're part of this problem) will get it.

    So BS. I just paid over $400 for this crankset and there is no tool that came with it so now I have to go out and buy one. Lame job @Shimano.
