Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been trying to learn this for the past week watching countless of videos and i couldn't get it for the life of me. Then I stumbled onto your tutorial and by far, the most comprehensive, beginner friendly video out there. Again, thank you for showing the technique in simple, slow terms!❤
I do adore Russian Spiral stitch, Jill! And you're such an excellent teacher. I first learned the art of bead-weaving with you many years ago by teaching myself from your invaluable books! But here's a tip for anyone who's interested - whenever I've not had enough Crystals for a project, I've often used Miyuki 6/0's in similar colours and finish in place of the Crystals - and they've turned out beautifully. It also beads up nicely with Bugle Beads in place of the Crystals and 11/0 seed beads for a lovely triangular result. And a finer result is achieved by replacing the crystals with size 6/0's and using size 15/0 seed beads in between - this variation makes a particularly lovely necklace. In fact my favourite combination for a necklace is Miyuki 6/0 and 15/0 Seed Beads, both in the 'Yellow Gold' coloured Permanent Galvanised finish - I often wear it with or without an Onyx Cabochon that I beaded in the same colour Seed Beads .. It's so versatile! But you can use any uniform size beads that you like --- The sky is the limit if you just use your imagination! Happy Beading : )
I have been struggling so much with this technique but watching and listening to you has been so great. I finally understand the process. Thanks so much!!
Aside from the wonderful teaching and gorgeous designs you offer, I really appreciated that you pointed out the importance of color juxtaposition in the first 2 minutes of the video. Once you pointed that out, it really made sense why the middle design "popped" -- even though the others were still very satisfying eye candy.
Hi Jill. I just wanted to tell you something that I would hope you have heard many times. You're AWESOME! I decided to learn to bead just a few weeks ago and courtesy of your teaching ability, I'm learning fast. So thanks and keep these wonderful tutorials coming.
Thank you Jill. I prefer your Russian Spiral tutorial over the many that I watched and am making some lovely bracelets with this stitch. You are a pleasure to learn from. Blessings
Fabulous teacher! Thank you, I am a beginner bead weaver, having only used the stringing method. Your videos have help greatly. I have viewed videos without sound, and while ok for very simple patterns or even experienced beaders, it was tedious for me. The difference is vocalizing when you make a turn, important information like the expected result. The step-ups, when to tighten, where likely mistakes may occur all make your videos an exemplar for beading videos. Thank you!
You’ve made this look very doable. I’ve seen this explained in books and other videos, but never this clearly. I’m thinking of making some focal beads with this technique.
Finally a spiral that makes sense to me, just finished my first of many, now I feel confident enough to use the good crystal beads to make my next one, 😊
Jill you are too cute and funny. I realized you picked up the wrong bead before you, because you were so busy giving us your AWESOME tips, and when you realized it I had to giggle when you came to a complete stop and second of silence as you pondered why it wasn’t looking right. You are a wonderful instructor please keep sharing 😊and love shopping your sight EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE
For those who ask "How many fire polished beads do I need?", I counted and found that it is about 30 FP per inch using 3mm FP and 11/0s. Using a single color of fire polished beads, four packages of 50 beads each was more than enough for my bracelet. For three colors of FP, you'll need about 10 of each color per inch. Your mileage may vary depending on your tension, but this should give you a rough estimate.
I know this was posted 3 years ago but I have a question about tension. I'm a moderate level beader but with this stitch my tension seems to be so loose no matter what I do. Should I try using monofilament thread instead of the braided thread?
You are the Goddess of beading! I love every video you put out even if I am to scared to try them. At least when I'm done watching your videos there is a tiny little spark of hope that someday, I may try something more advanced. Love, love, love your work.
Thank you Jill for your very clear tutorial on Russian Spiral. I have watched other tutorials on Russian Spiral and I was so lost after watching because they weren't clear instructions. It is a very simple beading pattern now that I have watched your tutorial. Love all your tutorials. TFS and I am definitely making a Russian Spiral in the near future. :)
Love this! Great instructions and I love that you use the phrase, "sticky outy bead". It makes perfect sense to me! Gonna let my housework go and dig in my MASSIVE bead collection!
Question: Are collapsible beading needles a good substitute for all beading projects? If not, which bead weaving stitches are most amenable for the collapsible needle? I use the collapsible beading needles, as I CANNOT thread regular beading needles. I have a tremor in my dominate hand, so the larger eye is easier for me. In addition, I like how the needle holds the thread. In my short time with weaving, I have not had an occasion where a collapsible needle does not work. Yet, because of the time involved for weaving, I rather not start a project only to find out...OOPS! I find the hobby relaxing and oddly therapeutic for my hand , so I continue trying. I started stringing beads in 1996 and self taught (read a lot of beading books with great illustrations), so it is so nice to have UA-cam videos as an augment. With your videos, I can start right in watching the video. Appreciate your teaching style.
Beautiful! I love your exuberance. It's contagious. I just hope I can finally finish one of these bracelets. I've made several starts from other tutorials. Not that they were at fault---just my inexperience with tiny beads and thin beading thread! They take a lot more patience than the larger stone beads and wire I'm used to working with.
hi jill wonderfull video, i am totally hooked on beading, i have a need to bead every day, havent tried this yet. im going to try it in black and white. happy beading,
Fantastic video! I've been wanting to learn this forever! I have so many leftover beads from other projects and this is how I want to use them up. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much Jill. I've been poking around this russian spiral but I end up ripping them cause I don't like the look. I love all those color combos especially the purple. Love all your tutorials & more power to you!!!
Rewatching again! Thank you so much for all you have taught me I was new to beading at the age of 50, looking for something to do during treatment for cancer. I survived - and so did the beads! I had wanted to thank you so much for your tutelage through the years, you've taught me right angle weave, and I do a great embellished version now, Russian leaves, spiral, etc! You have enabled me to become a more than adequate, more confident beader, always looking for the sticky-outie, and new thread paths! Kinda like life, actually. Writing today to ask you is there is any way to share the fire polish colors shades of blue used in this tutorial? Think they'd make a great base for tubular netting and a pendant I have in mind. Stay cool, woman!
Best instructions, ever. I also love the bracelet you are wearing, so will check out your website to see if there is a kit. I'm also hoping you will publish another book.
Thank you so much for sharing this video! It's great inspiration! I've done Russian Spiral before, but never got around to playing with the colors of beads or sizes. Now I am!!!! Love it! Also, I LOVE the bracelet you're wearing in the video. Please tell me you have a tutorial!!!! You are so talented and inspiring. I look forward to your videos as often as you can publish them! :-)
Great tutorial, Jill! I've only ever used bugle beads in my Russian Spiral...don't know why!!...and I have a crazy stash of fire polish that I picked up in Spain, so I think I'll have a little fun!! LOVE the ombre design! You're always so inspirational. :-)
Beautiful! Gonna give this tech a try tonight. Too easy to put off for later. Want to get back to PWAT now that I have some KO, but gotta try this tech first! TFS! Assuming you closed or changed the name of the Jill Wiseman's Beautiful Beaded Ropes group. I keep trying to find it without success each time I watch your older vids. See you in the PWAT group again soon.
Thank you so much for sharing another beautiful tutorial. I love those little mistakes that you do, it helps us to learn how to get out of them. Take care x0x0x0
Hi Andree 👋 I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your profile tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment but we're not friends on here I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement I would like us to be friends if you don’t mind this is my Gmail Johnmaxwell22355@gmail.com you can text me God bless you..🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
It is absolutely stunning! I am actually thinking about getting some beads and recreating this! :D Only for the ends I would make two loops and bind them together with a black satin bow - that would be gorgeous on the back of the neck:) You inspire me, lady!
Thank you for this wonderful video. I have always wanted to make a spiral rope and now I will! Question: You mentioned in the video you would show how to attach a metal (or other than beaded) clasp - but ended with the beaded version. Do you have instructions to finish the ends of the rope with attaching a metal clasp? I would presume the style clasp would be a circle with bar-type. Thank you. Jeanne in Texas
Are you a mind reader? I was just looking through your videos for a Russian Spiral tutorial. And before I could make a request - voila! - it appears. Thanks!
Hi Jill, I have an abundance of 6mm fire polish beads, would these be too large? If not, would I still just use two 11/0s or would I need to add more. Thank you for all the time and experience you so generously share with us. Blessings to you, Sharon
HI Jill. I just love this stitch, thank you for the tutorial! Two questions for you, first - do you reinforce this design? I'm a tight weaver, and my necklace still seems a little loose. Second, if you use 4mm beads, do you still use 2 11º seed beads or more? Thanks for your help!!
Hi Jiil, first of you look absolutely Stunning whit this Gorgeous Blouse, the colors are my fav. so i would love to have the same & second you know i have a tip for you the tail after your needle is so long that's why it's make knots so if you desire to try leave just a inches of tail & i promess you'll never had knots anymore yep! I love the Bracelet you wear it's a Gorgeous Bracelet do you have a kit for this Beauty??? thank you for this excellent tut. video!
I just discovered your channel and I love how you do your tutorials. I would love to do this pattern with a red-ombre pattern fading black to red. What color fire polish would you recommend for that?!
Thank You Jill, for making it possible for our old age beginners to have fun, because of your teachings

I love your voice. Calming as you explain something to a first timer.
Did this stitch years ago n forgot the basics especially the step up...... Thanks so much Jill, this was most helpful

Thanks for the tip about using an 11/0 that contrasts well with all the fire polished or crystal colours. It makes a much nicer effect.

Great tutorial! I found you for a refresher as I am doing a Russian spiral lariat with crystal ends on the fringes ends! Thanks for the fun!
Thanks Jill. I have been wanting to learn how to do this and I just couldn't catch on. Well you teaching is so much easier.

Great video! This is the best explanation of the Russian Spiral that I have seen. Thank you!
