I sometimes get flashbacks to the Bunny Day Festivities when every fricken balloon was an egg balloon.
Also the fishing tourney when every fricken fish was an egg. I still haven't forgiven Nintendo for this one.

My strategy for balloon hunting: having volume at max and not being near flowers.
Wow I never thought to look at the smoke in the chimney to see which direction the balloons are moving. That is REALLY helpful!!

I bought it last month (wow, time flies) and her videos are really helpful! Because of her I was able to get a lot of different flowers and get my island do 3 stars!

I got it around late June to early July and I don’t regret it.... it’s usually not my type of game but it’s a good time waster when I just am bored on the couch and want to do something.... got my isle to 3 stars and slowly but surely creeping up on the 4th

I tried this strategy for a while: balloons tend to spawn in a way that let's the player be most likely to see them. So if you're terraforming or laying down path you're more likely to see them fly overhead. I took this and tested it out. On the 3rd and 4th minute I started digging or placing/planting things where I wanted the balloons to find me. And it does work. I think they spawn in a way where if you're at x spot on the island, they will drift to wherever that x spot was. I tried for 6 hours and it worked probably 90% of the time.
Tldr: plant or move stuff on your beach on the 3rd and 8th minute and the balloons will drift directly over where you are working.

Just to post an update. The Mario items (the ? block, the thump, etc) are the same height as the climbing wall. You can use these in place of a climbing wall to "control the flow of" the balloons. Why should one bother to replace the walls with ? blocks. You can move under them without any restriction!
Whoever at Nintendo thought it was a good idea to put Seasonal Diys in Balloon Gifts only should be fired. I mean seriously how was anyone suppose to get the Mush and Maple diys I spent so long looking them throughout November and I couldn't them. Neither my friends could find them either. So I had to go on Nookazon spend hundreds on Nook Mile Tickets just to get them. I mean honestly the way they expect you to get these seasonal diys in this game is just so bad.
I didn't even realise for the longest time that was how they worked, I barely got any either now looking on nookazon and they're all so expensive 😐
@maid_cat Well I know you can get them from trading but I tried the villager crafting and the diy bottles and so far NOTHING! Somebody said you can get them but I have had no luck.
@maid_cat honestly I think it is haven't gotten a single maple or Mush recipe that wasn't from a balloon...

Yes, hunting down the recipes specific to November (or May in the Southern Hemisphere) was kinda ridiculous. I did get every recipe via balloons, but that involved hours of balloon hunting.
I've been playing this game every day for nearly nine months now and I still learned some new stuff about these darn balloons. Thank you!
I like to point out that the balloons could also disappear when you pop them between beach rocks, and it's *painful*
If you'd like to make sure balloons do fly over, put on your swimming suit and see if there's one flying

I tend to get the most balloons when I'm working in one spot near the right coast of my island during the day. (I'm southern hemisphere, and balloons spawn from right to left during the day, then left to right after sunset.) If I really need some seasonal DIYs, I try to find something to do - such as terraforming - that will get my mind off the stress of balloon hunting and pass the time until a balloon finally passes by.
I reasoned out the 4 and 9 strategy after a bit, so it’s been really helpful in hunting seasonal DIYs. Didn’t know their path across the island could be manipulated by other objects, though.
I actually use a strategy that is basically when the clock hits idk let’s say 2:38 or 1:43, like a 8 or 3 time at the end XD I go into a building with a mpc in it, like blathers or the nooklings, or one of your villagers houses, idk about residence services but I think it could work too. Then I talk to them for a moment, and once a minute has passed I immediately get out. Usually this worked for me, I tried this trick out yesterday hunting for snowflake recipes XD, I only got two cause I don’t got that much time on the switch, but so far I barely miss a present, like only 2 times I did that night. I hope this helped anyone, or if it doesn’t work, maybe try a few more time cause it’s hard to do if it isn’t correct. Have fun popping balloons 🎈 ^-^

It will also work quite well if you use the Mario floating blocks. This has the added plus that you can run under them to get to the shoreline. It takes a bit of time to get them placed just right, but it is definitely worth it.

The red and green balloons usually give me the most seasonal recipes. Whenever blue or yellow comes by it's usually money or iron 😭 I usually find them every five minutes but sometimes they never show up, so I'm probably gonna use the website. I need my island to look like a Christmas wonderland 😌

When I stay in one place I noticed balloons flying to me, to the spot where I am. Sometimes a little lower 🙈 not sure if it supposed to be that way, so sometimes I sit and wait or terraform and they always fly above me. Now I wanna try the jail bars hack, thanks to you 😄 I need my last 2 fall recipes.
Update: it worked! Thanks a lot! I spend some time placing bars, but then it was so easy to catch balloons cause they stuck near wall 🥰🥰🥰
I notice that the most balloons I get are when I’m terraforming. Work in one specific place, and sometimes they’ll come to you. It’s crazy but it works

I don’t really often specifically hunt for balloon whenever I hear their whistle in the wind I try and find where the whistle is loudest and then I look up and position myself to shoot the balloon

I am pretty sure I can listen to you read from like a phone book or something and still be entertained.
I’ve found that the red balloons have given me furniture most of the time but that’s just my personal experience 🤷♀️.
I got a gold balloon before and it gave me the recipe for the gold watering can. Plus I’ve always notice that the faster the balloon travels, the rarer the item the present contains (10-30,000 bells, gold, rare furniture items, etc.)
I didn’t even think to look at the smoke for the wind direction. All I knew from balloons is that if I had a Nook Miles+ for popping a balloon then one would never appear!
Also, I wish they would give me different crafting material such as to go with the seasonal recipes. Hell, I’ll even take wood!
There's an easier way to get balloons. When hunting for some seasonal recipes I found it was easier to just stand in one spot the whole time, and the ballons will spawn by you most of the time.
Probably just luck tho
@@klarahaeseler2081 I feel like it definitely wasn't just luck though, as long as I didn't move there'd always be a balloon above me unless one just didn't spawn at the time. Others have mentioned that the same thing has happened to them too, in fact that's how I found this strategy.

i always thought blue was more likely to be crafting materials, red was more likely to be a recipe, yellow was more likely to be bells, and green was more likely to be clothing.

My balloons seem to usually be yellow: bells, red:furniture, green: clothing, blue: crafting materials but maybe that’s just me 🤷♀️

One time I needed clay then I found a ballon and lo and behold, clay.

The most important strategy is to play this game using headphones. Makes it a thousand times easier to differentiate from the balloon “whoosh” sound and other similar sounds around the island.

Also, I built a straight wall on my island's East, it's not a complete wall down to the beach, but it's a wall nonetheless.

Fun fact: you can line your shadow with the balloon’s shadow before firing your slingshot for a 100% chance of the balloon popping!
That is, if you’re standing in the middle of the beach and align the shadows.

there was a setting my husband had set in our external speakers that helped us hear the balloons a lot better, unfortunately the villagers are quiet when you talk to them (which didn't bother me). But now the settings are normal, and I can't hear it well....I swear the waves of the water DOES SOUND LIKE a balloon is passing by!!!

I’ve tried to figure out balloons but between flattening and redecorating my island and my kids staring at me I just hadn’t gotten the knack yet.
