  • We've just returned from our first club camping trip for 2019, where we spent 3 days camping up in the Snowy mountains at Geehi. We checked out the huts, went swimming and hit the tracks. We had a full day on the Saturday with a quick stop at the Old Geehi Hut before heading over the border into Victoria for a big loop up and around the northern side of Mt Pinnibar to check out Surveyors Creek camping area. Then back to Geehi for a swim and a cold drink. What a great weekend!

Hey Adam, We camped at Geehi then drove up and over Mt Pinnibar. Down Bluegum ridge tk to Rileys monument for a look then drove back. Nothing to hard and a very scenic drive.Cheers

Great video guy's. Its an area I want to explore myself. One question. Can you access Geehi through to the Alpine Way via Olsens rd, or is it locked up behind a gate?

Hey Garry, Thankyou . You can use either end of the Alpine way to get to Geehi. We were on the western side where all the Huts are located. I know google earth brings it up on the eastern side off Olsens rd. I have not actually been along Olsens rd but as far as i am aware it is open and goes up to Geehi dam about 21ks. Would be worth a look one day !

Thanks for the extra info guys. I thought the track went north from Alpine Way, past Geehi Reservoir and connected up with the Snowy Mountains Hwy. I could be wrong. I explored a lot of this area growing up, after my Dad introduced me to Mt Kosciusko back in the late 1960's. We actually drove all the way up to the summit, before they closed off the Road.
Where are you guys located? I am in the Ottway Ranges in South West Victoria, and would love to go exploring the high country one winter, if they don't close the tracks early.

@@garrybeattie8265 That would be great if you could still drive up, imagine that !. I was only going off my paper Hema map and having not driven the road i cannot give an accurate answer i'm sorry Garry. We are located in Bega NSW about an hour north of the Vic Boarder. Still lots of the high country open in winter to drive after they shut the gates. Its one of my favourite places to visit.

@@toofarsouthoffroadYes, I have been saying that for years. My dad used to recall how narrow the road was. I have some Super 8 film here somewhere, of us at the summit, running around in thick cloud, with Dads XP Falcon station wagon in the background. Childhood memories firmly etched into my mind!! I would love to tag along on one of your trips one day, especially to the high country in or around Winter. My wife and I had planned to do the Dargo High plains road this summer, eventually coming out at Tom Groggin Campsite. But the fires have put a stop to that. Do you have a Facebook page for your club? Good talking to you guys.
