and meanwhile, I was proud that I started understanding serum finally after 5 years of fooling around with presets, and then this video pops up and gives me existential dread
I made a Razor preset a few years ago called 'Vertical Phaser'. The patterns look as if the waves are swinging perpendicular to time axis. Mindblowing!
crazy, I was playing with this exact same setup just a couple weeks ago didn't arrive at the same magic sweetspot as you, was just kinda making cool noises and seeing if I could find anything special
@@kennethsmith5383 I mean, I think AU5 heard something I didn't and managed to find how this was useful in a way that wasn't as intuitive to me I was listening for something else at the time, and going far more extreme with the frequency shifter I also don't know if I'd personally have been brave enough to call this "inventing a filter" I'm not criticizing AU5 for this title at all, just personally wouldn't have even crossed my mind to claim that edit: almost forgot, thank you, I should do more
I think I need to watch it again. I was mesmerized by the sounds and barely listened to the explanation. but yeah something something comb and allpass filters and phase inversions. nice
I love your sound, and I've always described it to people as sort of liquidy. Singularity, Snowblind, Dreaming, Blossom, and Crossroad are probably some of the best archetypal examples of my music taste in 2014. The sound this creates is just perfect and instantly takes me back.
Man, I bet this kind of skill would translate well into pulling crazy stuff with radio waves. Your understanding of waveform manipulation is just wild!
YOU TEACH SO WELL I NEED TO BINDGE WATCH ALL YOUR VIDEOS RIGHT NOW. man if only other channels explained and taught stuff so effortlessly. you just made all these concepts click with me so quickly
I love the short-hair, honestly. Feels very fitting, bet it feels freeing too. This was a very inspirational video, thanks for sharing. Building my own filters snow and getting into fun effect chain shenanigans!!
Okay, followed along like a good student, but than at the end a whole bunch of stuff happens in a millisecond: duplicate it 4 times (why?), reset (how?), macros are mapped off screen (which?). Will try, but would love to get a bit of insight about these steps too!
Duplicate to increase the rolloff of the filter by adding more poles to the same frequencies (makes the effect more intense, so might be nice to add a chain selector with a dry/wet knob). reset by selecting all the ultracomb filter effect chains (On windows: shift + click or ctrl + click individually) and then turning them all off and then back on at the same time. I can't figure out what "invert" is mapped to, but the others are self explanatory. "AP" means all-pass which maps to the three key parameters in the phaser. Edit 1: Invert Update From Another comment below thanks to @sionnachs_workshop "map the inverts on both phasers to a macro. open up the map options. set one range from 0-64 and the other from 64-127. that should make it so when the macro crosses the mid point it'll flip the inverts on both."
Incredible. I also learned more about Ableton and audio effect chains than I did in most videos actually about that subject, so extremely well done sir! Instantly subbed
I do something similar to get a robotic kind of effect on vocals. (Add delay and paste 2 instances of the vocal into the playlist and shift em slightly on the snap to grid "none" setting)
There was a subject called “Signal Processing” at my University. You could easily be a lecturer on this subject. It is very important in experimental physics and astronomy.
I don't think his setup has any feedback going on; at least, when I recreated it in Snap Heap I didn't involve any feedback (experimented with adding it but made things sound a bit muddy!)
Ah meant to watch this last month! Sounds pretty good. I've made similar stuff in VCV, need to find a phase inverter module to replicate this exactly. Also I'm surprised you didn't patch some feedback in, I've found that really helps to make the effect stronger with frequency shifting. Nice work!
Dude thanks once again man... The logic is super linear and sound and makes sense... it's like why haven't we done this!??!? LOL Freaking dope. Let's make some cool sounds!

beast!
yeah fr
he literally spends the whole video telling you how?
Wow man, now that filter is a real gameflanger!
bravo for that one lol
good
He an 5000+ other audio developers before him invented it, his came out after a SHORT DELAY..... 🤣🤣🤣

This is one of the greatest sound design tutorials I have ever had the joy of watching on this platform. I love comb filters. Great work.
Comb filters are my favourite colour bass
Dude this is GAMECHANGING
Ay what's up lol
not really

There are those who make music,
And those who pioneer music.
You sir are one of the most talented and visionary. Thank you for sharing your gifts.
Him and VR are gifts to the producing community.
It’s very true
Best Au5 tutorial ever??
Of course you did... Of course you created your own audio filter.

That intro though is insane!
The video that blew my mind in under 60 seconds.
I can't believe you're also sharing all this info just like that, it's such an awesome thing to know.
The end result of the Ultracomb was absolutely buzzin'. Truly the bee's knees.
truly.
Yes it's so sick
Awesome as always Au5💙
Your next video will be "I Somehow Recreated The internet With A Sinewave And Some Gummy Vitamins"
damn, you created an effect that looks and sounds cool at the same time
Amazing!!! I will create a version of this in Bitiwig. Thanks for the knowledge. Definitely checking the school of bass
tutorials like these are absolute gold, straight forward using free equipment creating awesome custom!zable stuff! thank you!
Sounds like Harmor, if sound design remade. Impressive
Does this just prove Harmor is still the most powerful and misunderstood synth?
Not really. Harmor is amazing but it's not perfect.
Was gonna say this is very similar to harmor phaser
I made a Razor preset a few years ago called 'Vertical Phaser'. The patterns look as if the waves are swinging perpendicular to time axis. Mindblowing!
the potential for acid is immense

what are you supposed to duplicate 4 times ? Just the delay / phaser / freq shifter module or both delay / phaser / freq shifter + delay / flanger ?

It’s so clean. I can’t get over it.

Delays, frequency shifters, and all-passes? Three of my favorite ingredients!
you should do a breakdown of how to do this with kilohertz
Nice! Gonna have to watch this again and see if I can make one in Reason. Seems perfect for a combinator.
My first thought - sidechain and use audio to change the parameters. Could get some really interesting stuff like that.
didnt expect that intro

Yay a little update for SoB 🎉❤
If Austin was to make an audio effect of course the first one was going to involve delay lines and feedback loops LOL
