I think the core interest of it is the implications of her character. For her to have it short dictates her preference for working and practicality. Preferring strength instead of frailty.

Thanks for explaining this because I was always thrown off about the nature comment in the scripture. When I was younger in my teens and twenties I went through my hippie phase but ironically my hair never grew out right and I gave up and cut it off. It was a headache to mess with and keep up with. Being hot natured it drove me crazy too. I love the fact now that I hardly have any hair to wash. I'm into as heavy metal as I ever was and most metal bands have their hair short now too, so legalistics have less to try to accuse metal music than they used to. I also realize that there are women who have bad hair and why many cut their hair short too. But the only other inconsistency is that the Nazarite vow had men to grow out hair which is shameful. Making a vow to God from something that is shameful?

    • @justice8718

Nature tends to describe the nature of man, not of God. Which is something to remember since Paul was all about understanding the meanings of world and use it against its wickedness.

I think what Michael is talking about and what the Bible is teaching here for this custom is the heart of God. People look on the outward appearance so, as believers, it would be in our best interest to live soberly and make our appearance in a way that wouldn't cause people to question our sincerity. It's the perfect method of living peacefully with others. That and not being the one to judge others on their appearance, you can only decide what you do for yourself. Hope God blesses your ministry. 😊

I remember 14 years ago, there were these 2 lovely young girls (Anita & Aida) who would visit me at work because they liked me for some curious reasons. Twins they were, but one was more feminine than the other, and thus wore her hair loose and long as oposite of her sister. One time they both came and the more girly one (Anita) asked me how I liked their hair, so I immediately told her that I liked her beautiful long and flowing loose hair, and to her sister I said that she should wear it the same. They told me that that's how their dad likes their hair too, and at that moment I realised how precious a woman raised in a family with traditional values is, and how much stronger is the pleasure for the joy in these values than the pleasure fleshly lust offers. I should've married that girl, but my foolishness and God's will led me somewhere far away. I do miss her dearly, and I hope she's happy and saved.

Even if there's one verse, it's still in the Bible. God wanted to create a man and a woman differently. There's a voltage in the battery because there are two different poles. + and --. In this age of LGBT, it's better for men to look manly and women to look feminine.

Whats tricky here is what is Godly and what isnt. Take circumcision for example. If man is made in the image of God, why circumcize the penis? Also, why should men cut their hair? Both are natural defaults. Uncircumsized and uncut hair seems most natural.
Circumcision is artificial. So if were debating about whats most natural, the best argument is the man who is most default and natural.

In Corinth, the prostitutes had short hair. That is how the men could tell that they were. When the farmers planted crops, they would go to the temple and have sex with prostitutes. This was a belief that it would help to have a good harvest. That is also why Paul said that men should be married and only have sexual relations with his wife. The farmers were committing adultery.
Corinth was really messed up with superstitions and ungodly beliefs.

When it comes to the matter of hair and men. That is between you and God. Remember, our earthly body is going to go into dust. Our spirit body will go back to God, who gave us with the breath of life I think what we need to ask ourselves is where is our walk with the Lord. if God tells you to wear your hair short, where is short if God tells you that’s OK to have your hair long but that’s OK to the most important thing is we are gonna die one day and this body is gonna go to dust I think God is far more concerned with what’s in the heart, and what the body looks like. You and the Lord. Amen.

I agree essentially with your message that God made us perfect and doesn't want us fussing with ourselves. First, it could be a sign of low self esteem to which we must learn our value in Christ. Second, it could be a sign of vanity, narcissism and pride. While less common, female pattern baldness is a thing, and there are various genetic or hormonal conditions that cause growth of facial hair on women or lack of such on men.
Long hair in of itself is not effeminate on a man. The Narzarite vow spoken of in Numbers 6 stipulated that when a man or a woman made such a vow they were not to cut their hair for the duration of the vow. Samuel was dedicated as such by his mother before he was born and was faithful to that vow so Samuel would have had some really long hair by the end of his long life. Sampson was also under such a vow and had long hair, that is until he allowed Delilah to cut it symbolizing how he had strayed from God over the years. No doubt, depending on ones' profession, that hair would have to be managed/kept up, at least on occasion. Same with women. A lot of women's work cannot be safely done with long hair hanging down. Even try just doing housework or taking care of kids with hair in the face. We women are more than our hair, we have hearts, and MINDS! Objectification occurs when the focus is on a part of an individual rather than the person as a whole. Please don't use hair to objectify women. Men and women who see the opposite sex as equals, fully formed, autonomous, individuals with their own thoughts, wisdom, experience and value tend not to objectify one another.
1 Corinthians 11 is addressing customs. The church in Corinth was very culturally diverse and had many issues and confusion that Paul had to sort out. Clearly some, before Christ, came from backgrounds that dictated women have their heads covered or at least seriously frowned upon those who didn't have their heads covered. Paul was sorting out for them the difference between the commands of God and cultural preferences. Take wedding dresses today. Before Queen Victoria's jubilee where she wore a white dress, brides typically just wore their best dress for their own wedding. But inspired by Queen Victoria's white jubilee dress it became fashionable (if you could afford it) to wear a white dress on your wedding. Then it became custom signifying purity. Now people, regardless if they can really afford the dress, are pressured to buy a white wedding dress (that will only be worn once) otherwise they might as well be telling the world they are not pure. Same with the wedding ring. An early 20th century marketing scheme to sell more diamonds when the market became flooded causing diamonds to drop in value. Now people act like we've always exchanged wedding rings (often the rich did but not typical otherwise) and some act as though it is ordained by God.
But I have a question, what do you mean that (some) women need to bring themselves up to par. By whose standard, opinion. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all. And what about men? Men don't have to bring themselves up to par? (Again, whatever that's supposed to mean.) You like girls prettied up? First, they are women, NOT girls. (Your choice of language, and humor, often hints to that while you may profess such, you may not actually see women as equals, or as women but larger/older girls that are sexualized, hence your frequent use of the term girls to refer to women. And let's be honest, it is far more common to refer to a women as a girl, regardless of her age than to refer to a man as a boy, and when a man is referred to as a boy it is understood to be disrespectful, especially if called so by a women.) Second, women typically like men well groomed. Please don't play the double standard game, it's a game typically played by hypocrites and we don't want to associate with any of that do we?

Also, some cultures do not naturally grow long hair. Wooly hair is coily and grows up/out. It can only grow "long" or "down" through chemicals, heat, or certain manipulations. I think we should focus on the spiritual principle of God as the head of man and man as the head of woman rather than equating hair lengths with righteousness or attractiveness.

Whereas now we have different remedies for that problem which themselves are more socially acceptable in 2023. I assume they didn't have mass-marketed SMP or Hair Systems to sell 2000 years ago. to me it should be just a matter of individual preference regardless of your sex.

The whole point of a nazarite vow was to seperate yourself from the world and project disgrace and dishonor upon yourself (that why Jesus also took a nazarite vow, to show humility). But now Christ has permitted no man to take a vow. Instead let our no's be no's and our yes' be yes'.

It's simply saying that our nature shouldn't be to try to make our appearance something special. We are created in His image and our His beloved creation so we should be happy with who we are without having to "pretty" ourselves up. NO, Jesus did not have long hair, and neither was the son of God puny, skinny, weak, short, homeless looking, dirty, etcetera, Jesus was a perfect man, son of the all mighty God. The movies depict Jesus with a very awful appearance, even when in the preach work, how disgusting. ● Features: Jesus was a Jew and likely inherited common Semitic traits from his mother. (Hebrews 7:14) It is unlikely that his features were especially distinctive. On one occasion he was able to travel in secret from Galilee to Jerusalem without being recognized. (John 7:10, 11) And he apparently did not stand out even among his closest disciples. Recall that Judas Iscariot had to identify Jesus to the armed crowd that arrested him.-Matthew 26:47-49.
    ● Hair length: It is unlikely that Jesus’ hair was long, because the Bible says that “long hair is a dishonor to a man.”-1 Corinthians 11:14.
    ● Beard: Jesus wore a beard. He followed Jewish law, which prohibited adult males from ‘disfiguring the edges of their beard.’ (Leviticus 19:27; Galatians 4:4) Also, the Bible mentions Jesus’ beard in a prophecy about his suffering.-Isaiah 50:6.
    ● Body: All indications are that Jesus was physically robust. During his ministry, he traveled many miles. (Matthew 9:35) He cleansed the Jewish temple twice, overturning the tables of money changers, and once drove out livestock with a whip. (Luke 19:45, 46; John 2:14, 15) McClintock and Strong’s Cyclopedia states: “The whole evangelical narrative indicates [Jesus’] sound and vigorous bodily health.”-Volume IV, page 884.
    ● Facial expressions: Jesus was warm and compassionate, and his facial expressions no doubt reflected this. (Matthew 11:28, 29) People of all sorts sought him out for comfort and help. (Luke 5:12, 13; 7:37, 38) Even children felt at ease in his presence.-Matthew 19:13-15; Mark 9:35-37.
    Misconceptions about Jesus’ appearance
Misconception: Some argue that Jesus must have been of African descent because the book of Revelation compares his hair to wool and his feet to “burnished bronze.”-Revelation 1:14, 15, The New Jerusalem Bible.
Fact: The book of Revelation is presented “in signs.” (Revelation 1:1) The description of Jesus’ hair and feet uses symbolic language to illustrate Jesus’ qualities after his resurrection, not to describe his physical appearance when he was on earth. In saying that Jesus’ “head and his hair were white as white wool, as snow,” Revelation 1:14 uses color, not texture, as a point of comparison. This represents his wisdom due to age. (Revelation 3:14) This verse is not comparing the texture of Jesus’ hair to that of wool any more than it is comparing the texture of his hair to that of snow.
Jesus’ feet looked “like fine copper when glowing in a furnace.” (Revelation 1:15) Also, his face was “like the sun when it shines at its brightest.” (Revelation 1:16) Since no race has skin color matching these descriptions, this vision must be symbolic, showing the resurrected Jesus as the one “who dwells in unapproachable light.”-1 Timothy 6:16.
Misconception: Jesus was weak and frail.
Fact: Jesus was manly in his behavior. For example, he boldly identified himself to the armed crowd that came to arrest him. (John 18:4-8) Jesus must also have been physically strong to have worked as a carpenter using manual tools.-Mark 6:3.
Why, then, did Jesus need help to carry his torture stake? And why did he die before the others executed with him died? (Luke 23:26; John 19:31-33) Just prior to Jesus’ execution, his body was seriously weakened. He had been up all night, in part because of emotional agony. (Luke 22:42-44) During the night the Jews had mistreated him, and the next morning the Romans had tortured him. (Matthew 26:67, 68; John 19:1-3) Such factors likely hastened his death.
Misconception: Jesus was always somber, melancholy.
Fact: Jesus perfectly reflected the qualities of his heavenly Father, Jehovah, whom the Bible describes as “the happy God.” (1 Timothy 1:11; John 14:9) In fact, Jesus taught others how to be happy. (Matthew 5:3-9; Luke 11:28) These facts indicate that Jesus often reflected happiness in his facial expressions.

Not only is it human nature rather than nature, but we also have to remember that we aren't a part of this world. As much as we are bound to it by sin. Human's do not follow beasts. This is literally what makes us special. The potential to go outside of the animal instinct when it is controlling. This animal instinct is the literal mark of a beast. It's a fear of men to the point that it wraps us in confusion and submission. While it may seem hypocritical. You have to consider that the Bible tells us to go against the "natural" when it comes to anything that could cause complacency or lust.
For a woman to keep their natural look it makes sense because they are typically more rooted in the "natural way of Earth" than men. Adam and Eve for example. Also, men have to hunt and fish. We are meant to be the ones closest to God in the household. Cutting hair is kind of symbolic of the conquering of the Earth by God in the sense that it ties into our domain over animals and such. Plus it is also better to maintain it short for sight, hearing, and overall awareness. Shooting a bow or battling with long hair isn't exactly ideal for discipline and efficiency.
I'm nobody to judge and the Bible is what you should pay attention to on this rather than my half-thought out speculation. Also long hair for men I would guess would be whatever is untameable or maybe jawline length. This was also a tool for jews to differentiate one another and separate themselves from surrounding pagans.
