Crochet for Knitters - Woven Stitch

- In this Crochet for Knitters video, I show you how to work the Woven Stitch as a dishcloth. This stitch is pretty and really fun to work! Info below on how to try it out as a dishcloth, and if you end up loving the stitch, you can easily work it into a whole blanket or throw.
Instructions for working this stitch:
Chain a multiple of 2 + 3
Row 1: skip 2 chain stitches, 1 single crochet in next stitch, chain 1, skip 1 chain stitch, 1 single crochet repeat between *s to end of row, chain 2, turn work.
Row 2: *1 single crochet in chain space of previous row, chain 1*, repeat between *s to end of row, 1 single crochet in the turning chain space of previous row, chain 2, turn work.
Repeat Row 2.

In the striped dishcloth I made, I used Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in colors Fizz and White. I used a size H crochet hook, and a starting chain of 31.

Thank you for this. Every time I try crochet I wind up with a wedge or my sides are all uneven.. I see where I am wrong in my technique. I learn so much from you. Keep doing these videos for us. I want to branch out with my projects!
When I was in high school I wanted to do something nice for the girl I liked, so I decided to crochet her a blanket. I'd never actually finished a project before. About halfway through the blanket I started skipping the first stitch after the turning chain. So, after weeks of working on this afghan, It wound up being tapered. I was horrified, but gave it to her anyway so I could get those brownie points for being that guy that gave her a unique birthday present.

That's so funny. ...I'm actually using this stitch/pattern on a slouchy beanie hat for my step daughter right now. I didn't know what it was called until now! Lol thank you for your awesome videos. :)
I love the stitch & plan to make this in two's so I can s/c them together, around the edges, for use as hot pads.

I'm about as big into crocheting as I am knitting, and you're right, it's nice to change it up. Stacy, I know you say to pick up one leg of the stitch on the foundation row, however, I've gotten in the practice of always picking up two on the foundation row. This leaves for a nicer first row as that first row virtually doesn't gap at all making a nice sturdy edge. Picking up two legs amounts to angling your crochet hook to catch the leg you pick up AND that little hump in the back at the same time. You can also just turn the chain over as you have done in past videos and just pick up that hump, leaving a nice finished edge. Give it a try and tell us all what you think!
MICHELLE BUCHERT - yes, that works well, too! I kind of switch it up from one technique to the other...one leg, two legs, or into the "spine" from one project to the next. Thank you for the note!
I do the exact same thing. I learned to go under 2 strands of the yarn many years ago but now I see what kind of edge I watch and switch it up when I want.
Idk how many crochet patterns you plan on making. But I'm making the dishcloth sized swatches and going to sew them into a blanket!

Hi Staci, I love these videos. I'm just getting into crochet after knitting for many years. I wonder if you could show some of these crochet stitches in projects that increase or decrease to get wider or narrower. I suppose one can never have too many dishcloths, but a little variety couldn't hurt, right? Thank you
This kind of reminds me of the linen stitch in knitting but not as zig-zag and since it's crochet it's reversible.

I'm confused. Is this not the moss, linen, or granite stitch? I was taught the woven stitch was something completely different. A stitch that is done in two parts.
It's likely that this stitch has different names (there are no real standards for stitch names).
