  • In this video, we delve deep into Toyota CEO Koji Sato's recent bombshell announcement regarding their innovative new engine technology, the "EcoPower Plus." This news has sent shockwaves through the automobile industry, calling into question the dominance of electric vehicles and changing the competitive landscape.
Electric cars (EVs) are becoming more popular, with businesses such as Tesla, Nissan, and Chevrolet leading the way. Tesla, in particular, has been at the vanguard of the electric car revolution, with their Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y models winning over people worldwide. However, just when it appeared like electric vehicles were invincible, Toyota threw a game-changing curveball into the equation.
Toyota's EcoPower Plus engine is built around the ground-breaking concept of "lean combustion." This new technology puts the classic internal combustion engine (ICE) to the test by running on an extremely low mixture that uses much less fuel. What exactly does this mean? It equates to a 50% boost in fuel efficiency over the most modern petrol engines on the market today.
But it isn't all. The EcoPower Plus engine also has lower pollutants, reaching levels equivalent to many electric vehicles, solving one of the fundamental issues with traditional combustion engines. Furthermore, it has a range of more than 600 miles on a single tank of fuel, spanning the gap between ICE and EV range capabilities.
So, what does this mean for the electric vehicle market and the companies that dominate it, such as Tesla, Nissan, and Chevrolet? Toyota's announcement undoubtedly raised eyebrows and presented a stiff challenge. As the EcoPower Plus engine appeals to consumers who value range, efficiency, and the convenience of traditional refuelling infrastructure, Tesla, with its strong brand and loyal following, may face more competition.
Other electric vehicle manufacturers, such as Nissan and Chevrolet, which have made considerable advancements in the electric vehicle sector, may be affected as well. Toyota's new engine technology may intrude on previously secure niches, forcing them to rethink their plans.
Even conventional automakers, such as Ford, General Motors, and Volkswagen, which have lately committed to developing electric vehicles, may need to revise their plans. The EcoPower Plus engine provides a viable alternative for consumers who are not yet ready to completely embrace electric vehicles, potentially diverting their attention and contesting their market dominance in the electric vehicle segment.
It is important to note, however, that Toyota's EcoPower Plus engine is not intended to replace electric vehicles. Rather, it emphasises the significance of consumer choice in the automotive sector. Consumers' wants and preferences vary, and the industry must accommodate this diversity.
Toyota's EcoPower Plus engine has ushered in a new era of automobile competitiveness, innovation, and consumer choice. While electric vehicles continue to be an important element of the solution to cut emissions and battle climate change, the emergence of this advanced internal combustion engine technology emphasises the necessity of market diversification.

At least some of the info in this video is OUTDATED. The TRUE cost of operating electric vehicles is so much higher than the cost of operating ICE vehicles that there are a BUNCH of videos on YT from current and former EV owners complaining about it, and advising others to reconsider purchasing EVs. Also, the CEO of Hertz announced recently that they were getting rid of their EVs because they are too expensive to operate as rental vehicles.

It’s sad to think we only have 2 technologies of automobile mobility. One day a more forward technology will prevail.

Toyota will need to prove its reliability with these gasoline saver engines. And how much more will it cost? Brand new cars already cost too much for 75% of buyers requiring 6-7 years to pay for their mortgages! That means people will need to keep their cars 12-15 years without high maintenance! It’s a good idea; now prove!

Their engine has just one major flaw: it doesn't exist.
It is only a delay strategy to hide the fact that they have lost there position as a leading manufacturer.

We never care about petrol cars, We drive Tesla Model 3, $37.000 - $40.000, In China, They had BYD e6, BYD Seagull, BYD Han, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, We did not want to spend more money for getting petrol $8-$16/100KM, 8L~16L/100KM, $160/1.000KM, $1.600/10.000KM, If you drive a car more 100.000KM - 300.000KM, It costs more expensive than EV, Changing Oil Engine Every 3.000 mile/5.000 KM, Maybe Average $40~$50 Once

So, what is the Eco Power Plus? Your video does not explain the detail. I need more detail specification before I buy one.
What is the air fuel mixture ratio, what is the torque from this engine? Hot story alone does not push a vehicle.

The cost of hydrogen generation and storage is somehow ignored. Toyota is trying hard to stay above water.

966 kilometers range are nothing special unless tank/reservoir will be 20 liter one !! there is already engines which have over 1000km range now or diesels 1500km

Electric cars are a bad idea. Shutting down the energy exploration industry is a bad idea. Creating thousands of government departments and jobs is a bad idea. Not following our Constitution is a bad idea.

The limit to sales of Tesla EVs and other BEVs is power supply and distribution via decayed national and local grids that will cost €trillions and take years to achieve. The alternative is local small scale nuclear and hydrogen for power storage and use in the modified ICE engines of hybrids. With the UK going this route and replacing the national gas grid with hydrogen from steam reforming the displaced natural gas Toyota has made the right bet, at least in the UK where it is a major auto manufacturer but likely in Europe which will follow.

It’s incorrect to say that a hydrogen fuel cell car is greener than an ice car. The amount of energy required per mile driven produces more pollution/carbon dioxide than the average internal combustion engine car let alone an EV.

If electric cars were so great, there would be no need for government incentives.

    • @fetB
      @fetB 6 місяців тому

erm, yes there would, because you first need to build them, which primarily is about the development and cost of batteries. Dont act like gas hasnt been been incentivized through various channels, and it still caused a lot of trouble and significant cost for people. There were even wars and subsequent 911 events because of it.

So Toyota's new 'eco power' (aka a fossil fuel engine) is so good it will disrupt EVs including presumably their own EV solid state battery (announced every 2-3 years)so why are they continuing with that though AIUI that will anyway be disrupted by Toyotas hydrogen fuel cell or is it Toyotas hydrogen combustion engine or maybe Toyotas ammonia combustion engine?
I guess they plan to throw everything against a wall and see if any stick.
FWIW Toyota's Mirai has not been "making strides" if only because theres almost nowhere to fill them up, they are very expensive even after huge subsidies, and (did i mention this already) theres almost nowhere to fill them up and at $2M a filling station with fuel 50% more expensive than petrol, that will continue.
Finally, reduced emissions, especially of carcinogens, doesn't cut it. We need zero tail pipe emissions especially in cities.
