some observations are interesting....the pit crew of roberts took ages to fix his front tyre...riders pushing bikes to get it started (why dont the crew help with that?)....people are too close to the track...other than the race leader (90% of the time), we didnt get to see the other riders much....anyway gr8 race and middleberg was masterclass
The rules only allowed the rider to push start his bike not the pit crew. The rules changed some years later for safety reasons not like the racing now. I have ridden two stroke bikes they are a lot easier to push start than the moto gp bikes of today. Biggest danger then was if you stalled the bike and someone hit you from behind!
Almost certain Roberts had rear shock failure early in race. Lots of rear wobbling through fast chicane, much more than the Suzuki's or even the other Yamaha's. Also looked like they covered rear shock with something when wheeling it into pits after Roberts retirement? Amazing he rode it that to even that long without signifigantly moving backwards.

Jack died in a local Dutch motorrace in Tolbert. A shame for such a talented racer.
These boys were bonkers... these 2 strokes are crazy, what a sound
Class Jack!!
So underrated, but what a truly class act!
Many thanks

thnx for this vid....first time i got to see graziano rossi in the track

Dit was nog echt de 500 cc twee takt wat een onvoorstelbare mooie klasse
The epitome of a dangerous track back in the late-70s/early 80s. They still hung them out, tho!
Jumping Jack... Dutch champion. 👍👍👍
Wow, you don't see crowds like that anymore. Trees on the infield of the track. Wild stuff.
Glenn C someone I know then still had a farm on the infield
I thought I saw cows :). How mad is that! Assen, my favourite track along with Philip Island.
Speakers all over the place in the infield too...lol
Great time and just around the corner
Still get 100,000+ at Assen, it’s a great venue and the party in town at night is worth going for itself.

If the crew helped push start, they would be standing in the track waiting to be hit by a rider further down the grid.

Kenny Roberts and Graziano Rossi
Kemudian di era 2000-an adalah kenny roberts jr. & valentino rossi
Fun to see that at the time they ride their bike like a motocross bike. They lean the motorcycle down and keep the body straight.

Thats how it was done back then. No big deal.
And imagine having an injured leg while qualified at Pole-position and then finding out you need to push start your bike to start the race
