I Projection Mapped My House for Christmas...

- This time we projection mapped our house for Christmas! We were inspired by Disney's Happily Ever After firework and projection show. You might have seen Christmas projections before but we wanted to take it to the next level by projection mapping our entire house. We got pretty close with the Optoma short throw projector and using Adobe after effects.

Here's our 2020 update! ua-cam.com/video/EorcNz0vuGw/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BreakItYourself
i guess Im kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to stream new movies online?
@Rylan Gideon I use Flixzone. Just google for it :)
@Landen Yousef yea, I have been using flixzone for months myself :)
@Landen Yousef Thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service =) Appreciate it!
@Rylan Gideon you are welcome :D
This is awesome. One thing to help make the projection more vibrant on your house is you may need to consider painting your house with a color that can make your house be vibrant and shiny when light bounces on the walls and roof. That’s one thing Disney did with their castles to help with projecting animation.
I'm not even a minute in yet but I'm already happy since it was inspired by happily ever after
that show is seriously incredible. I find myself listening to in on UA-cam a few times a month.
love the tech, creeped out by the story and how much it means to these people
thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Very comforting and beautiful.....Thank you!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Well done! I'm going to have to look into this for sure. Great idea and amazing execution!
Thanks for the kind words, come back and let me know if you end up doing something!
He executed someone ?!
This is so Spirit filled! Love this idea and the creativity. God bless you and your family and hope you have a wonderful Christmas season this year.
I found this video because I was learning about smoking a pork shoulder on my Weber grill, and suddenly I am way more interested in this than I am in smoking anything, lol!
haha thanks for watching!
Hahahahah... I found this vid while researching smoking a brisket.

Welcome to UA-cam were you look for one thing and find something completely different to keep your eyes on the screen
Project on a brisket
Tower of terror has an awesome overlay during Christmas
Awesome Video!! God bless you and your family! You have inspired me to try this.
Can't believe this is your first time doing this. Proof that ALL things are possible with the help of the Lord. Looking fwd to what you-all come up with this year!
Amazing! I love how the nativity scene was included in the animation!
That is one incredible DIY project……that I, personally, would never tackle. Very cool!
Thank you very much.
That’s excellent! Thanks for sharing. Cant wait for Christmas!!!!
stay tuned for the 2020 update
awesome work and awesome message, thank you , watching from Japan !
Talk about keeping Christ in Christmas.... love it. God bless!
I love it too!
I really like the idea you have here. Disney uses custom projection systems, lasers, special reflective surfaces, lights, and fireworks timed with special in-house systems designed specifically for the castle shows. You are off to a good start, but solving things the Disney way isn't going to work for many people (higher top of their field experts, develop custom systems, spend a lot of money). I'd like to know just how much you throw at this kind of project and how to keep costs down to something rational for a consumer.
I want to Thank You for sharing this Gift. 🎁 Some People Really don't know the "True Meaning of Christmas".🎄For Christians it is about Our Savior Christ the Lord's birth. 👶And recognizing just that. However, the other Reason for the Season is about Caring💗 for others. Especially the ones who are in need. Even though We Should ALL do Our Share ALL Year Round. BLESS YOU BOTH 🙏😇 & YOUR FAMILY! 👪 "Merry Christmas!" 🎅🎄
Amazing work I know it must be so much more rewarding to know you did it yourself.
Wow that is super awesome and super professional looking, looks like something you'd see from a high budget event.
thanks for the kind words! stay tuned for the 2020 update
Dude - your skills are amazing w/ so many different areas of expertise. Bravo
Out standing work 🤟🏼🤟🏼
I found your channel from BBQ'ing, an continued watching because it seems you have the exact same interests. LEDs, Drones, Protection Mapping, Raspi's, BBQ'ing.. it goes on.
Haha glad we share so many interests. I have a hard time focusing my channel on one specific thing which hurts my subscriber count but it’s all for kicks anyway 🤷🏽♂️ glad you appreciate it!
Thats pretty cool
Well done.
Very well done, I’m interested to see what you do next
Saw the nativity imediately
so up vote
Great video! I followed the same tutorial and the same projector for my Halloween show - will be stealing some ideas from your show and mount! Congrats!
Thanks for watching and for commenting! I'm already thinking through the upgrades I want to make next year haha
You bit off a lot for your first go at projection mapping and it came out great! I also don't think we live far from each-other?
Piece of cake! 😂
It's so beautiful! 💖💖
Amazing amazing amazing... thank uuu
thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed it!
Ive actually done some experiments with projection mapping myself in my own house. I have a few questions. 1- How did the video play from the projector, was your laptop connected the whole time? 2-Did the video play straight from After Effects or did u export
ender into a video format?
Thank You
@@duduzanemqaba9718 I used a raspberry pi which was running falcon pi player. Exported the video from AE onto the PI and Falcon Pi Player schedules the projector to turn on, play the show, and turn off.
@@BreakItYourself ohhh wow
I don't know wat falcon pi and all those are but ill do research. Thank you for the swift response
holy moly
my advice as a professional get a laser projector and mad mapper better controls for mapping epson is the way to go
do you have any specific models of Epson you suggest?
I'm looking to keep the projector inside the house and project through the window to a mirror that is placed outside that bounces the image back onto the home.
maybe with one of those newer laser projectors
When my first thought about this video was House of Representatives projections, it likely means I've spent too much time in politics.
Dude, AMAZING!!! I have to look into getting these parts and making this before Christmas! It seems like for less than the cost of getting a whole ton of those RGBW intelligent bars, you can do something FAR simpler. Optoma is a great brand for a projector as well. However, colors will look more and more washed out the higher the lumens on the projector because of weakened saturation and contrast. It looked amazing in the video. Only a perfectionist would see anything ;)
yeah, this is amazing
thanks for watching and for the kind words!
@@BreakItYourself you're welcome. I really like how you incorporated the nativity scene. did you have to manually start the show every hour or is it on a timer?
@@Anthonyyyyyg it's all run through the raspberry PI and the Falcon Pi Player program. The raspberry pi turns on the projector, runs the show, and turns off the projector whenever I schedule it to do so. It's incredible!
This is the best Christmas decor I've ever seen. Let us never forget the reason for Christmas.. I want to be this..
WoW! Very Nice! Got me into the Spirit!
Hi BIY. New Sub Here. I can't wait what you do for this year's Christmas Video Mapping Decoration for your house. I'm slowly dipping my toes in the shallow end and do a window of my house; but project it from inside the room. Thanks for an overview tutorial and the links of the materials, equipment, and software you used.
thanks for watching and for the sub! glad I could help
Great job love it keep on sharing the love of Jesus.
Dang this is a whole lot of work!
yes
This is so awesome, gonna start my list for next year, I do custom build lights on vehicles, I think I can do this to our house 🏡 I was planning on doing the 2811 leds w/ xlights now I think I want to do projection mapping too 💻 on top lol
haha good luck! I've been interested in leds with xlights as well but just haven't gotten around to it yet. maybe one day!
Awesome work
It happen the same to me, I went to Disney and I enjoy the show, and from there I wanted to do the house mapping... I got the proyector, but I have been struggling on what app to use on the computer so I can make the designs.
This is a great idea i think im gonna do this next yr
Amazing.
Duuuuuuuuuude. This is incredible
Great Video! You really did an amazing job there! Also, I’ve got a quick question: you’ve used an projector which is really great for a short distance projections, but in your case - the long distance projections- you said it didn’t really work out the way you’ve expected it. So Since I’m kind of planing to do my very own house mapping, I’m asking myself what would be the ideal projector to do that? - maybe you can help me out on this one :) greetings from germany!
If I could do it over I might get a few cheaper projectors off amazon and run it that way. Using the short throw from far away made the mapping easier imo but picture quality suffered. So depending on what kind of area you have to cover consider 1 vs 2-3
@@BreakItYourself I am attempting to start projection mapping my house for holidays but the problem is I have about 300 inches to cover my house width/height but my front yard is very short about (11 feet) I have a few projectors and was wondering how I could go about setting up multiples and make them all work together seamlessly
Wes Martinez you’re going to need to get an HDMI splitter. you can spread them out for coverage or stack them to increase the brightness. I would consider checking out some mapping software like madmapper for a multi projector setup.
Just LOVE IT!! Great job and thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to comment! Will have a new projection show hopefully up soon!
Good job
Great idea!
Love it 👍👍
$786.13? Really affordable guys well done
Love it 💯 🙏
amazing
Hey Man, this is freaking awesome! I just got all of the gear you suggested on Amazon for prime day yesterday. I am SUPER excited to try and replicate what you have done. Quick question for you: How do you play the video at the top of every hour? Do you use some software to schedule the video to display or do you manually do it?
I use a raspberry pi running falcon pi player
Check out city hall in Philadelphia. They do the best version of this I've ever seen.
the city hall one you recommended was awesome....!!!!!!
I have been there a few times
Our Hoa win t allow the stand itself!!
I live to defy the HOA
"Fans for cooling"... lol. Clearly you don't get snow where you live.
Lol yeah my first thought was that I would actually need a heater to keep snow off the glass and to preheat the projector before it turns on.
haha I'm in southeast Louisiana. We stay in the 60s usually.
Hey, must be nice being able to leave expensive equipment outside like that and not worry about theives!
It’s a $90 projector. Not that cheap, but not anywhere near as expensive as you are probably thinking.
@@WildTrek ah! Fair enough!
@@moebeeable haha you're not wrong. it's an $800 projector but I have it locked to the concrete sidewalk as well as some other measures/precautions taken. The box itself is tied into my home security system so if anything happens to it my home alarm goes off. I also have a few cameras from my house watching the box 24/7.
Great job! Can you share what bracket you used (maybe tripod mount?) between the top of the post and the projector box? Looks like you have swivel/tilt for aiming the enclosure! Thanks!
Super !!!
i hope it works for you
But i wanted something simpler , i already small light projector not (the actual projector) this small light projector usually create different colors like disco but i was thinking to create different reflection with it just dont know how
i always wanted to do this , but for halloween
i have seen some amazing projection mapping videos for halloween
but i would not have the throw distance , maybe with an ultra short throw
Would love to see any and all shows you’ve seen! Link me haha I love projection mapping shows
Can I ask what you used to mount the box to your 4x4? It looks like an adjustable bracket of sorts but I couldn't find any info on what you used. I'm looking to do something similar. Love the setup and show!
Can you do a tutorial of this video
How long did it take to create the animations? Where did you get stuff like the sheep? I have a project I'd like to complete by Halloween but just now starting and learning Character Animator. Awesome job by the way!
Cosas que jamás podrías hacer en México...
Very helpful video. I have the same projector and experience every problem you mentioned. I wish I had seen this sooner. What articulating piece/mount is connected between the post and the projector box? Is it the top portion of camera tripod? If so, are you finding it to be sturdy?
Been working with 4 projectors and 5 computers (4 for video and one controlling all the audio) to create my Halloween display. My biggest struggle is figuring out a way to control timing on all my projections with perfect sync. I heard you mention possibly doing something similar in the future. I've tried programs to attempt this but with not enough to perfectly sync eyes in windows, etc. Do you have any advice in this regard - software/hardware controlled?
Outside of a costly commercial server setup I would test out Falcon Pi Player. If 1080P is fine you can look for raspberry 3’s or 4’s. If you need higher resolution you’ll have to go with the 4 and it will likely struggle. Have the master FPP also be the source of the audio, if needed. The syncing is very good from what I’ve found. I’m not sure it’ll work in your situation but you can buy 2 and test them out. The master will send out multi sync packets as it plays its video file and each remote pi will keep their files in sync with the master. I believe all video files need to be the same name and duration which gets really tricky for file management. I usually name all my files what they are, upload them to their respective raspberry pi, then rename them from the FPP GUI to make life easier. Hope this helps! Keep me posted on what you end up doing.
@@BreakItYourself I will definitely give that a try. Not concerned about file length as I use Pinnacle studio and do a 16 track video/audio and then just hide the tracks I don't need for each projector and then export. Repeat for each one. I've been manually syncing all of them (kids and I do a countdown and then all click play). It works ok, but always looking for a way to improve and have been wanting to add a few more projectors for some new desired effects. I know if I don't resolve this, my work around won't be able to keep up, and the idea of using Raspberry Pis would be a lot easier than figuring out where to hide the laptops and keep them weather protected would be a lot easier. I'll report back after I play around with a couple. It sounds like it will probably work.
I am torn between the Optoma 1080hdr and the 1090hdr...or doing multiple 1080's...Aaargh...any recommendations out there?
Two 1080s closer to the projection surface will outperform the 1090 imo.
What type of projector you used?
What FM Transmitter did you use?
I use a cheap one, like $7, from Amazon
Laser projector, not multiple...
haha yes! that's what we did this year ua-cam.com/video/EorcNz0vuGw/v-deo.html
Howdy sir, I have my Halloween program done. How do you get it to play every 30 minutes?
Raspberry Pi running falcon pi player
Can you share the directions on creating the projector box?
Any recommendations on a cheap bright LED projector?
Great video, thank you. You mentioned you would upgrade your projector. I think you are using the Optoma GT1080HDR Short Throw Gaming Projector in the video, what would be your next level up...to address the color issues you mentioned? Would you go with Optoma GT1090HDR, or a whole different level? Thanks again!
Did you ever find out if anyone is using the 1090hdr? I am considering picking one up.
excelent, What kind of programs do you used?
Question.... all you use is one projector?
correct. just 1
Where is the “parts” list?
Love this would you recommend a projector for a larger house my house is longer but only one story
@@iiikrowniii bingo. multiple projectors is the answer
I already have the projector but needs the box . Do you sell the box that comes with all the gadgets that I only add my projector?
It’s so wonderful! Approximately how much was your first investment? I’m just learning to start as a beginner. I’ve been always dreaming my house with a Christmas light show.
Projector was around $800 and probably another $75 to build the box. The programs I use come in a suite that's around $50 a month. Then it's just time to learn the programs lots and lots and lots of time.
@@BreakItYourself thank you! I just got overwhelmed. Omg 😧
can u make the tutorial of the animation? bcs its difficult for me to make the animation.
i'm using falcon player did you have to add your own script to get projector functions like on/off or did you just add the plug in and add it to the playlist?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKEING THIS ABOUT Jesus I pray that you and your family will be blessed and that someone that dosent know the lord as are savior will hear your story and know him standing in front of your house in that one spot that he already knew that person was going to be there right at that moment to meet him Amen
Hi
What transmitter did you use and how far does it carry?
I got this one off amazon amzn.to/34kZdSP but it was only $20 last year. I think they make all kinds of cheap ones. The one I have carries for a solid block.
What is the Raspberry pi used for?
It runs falcon pi player that schedules the show, plays the video files, and hooks up to the projector via HDMI.
Anyone in Texas that knows how to do thia
Inverting the projector would have been a better projection angle... instead of tilting it so much. You might end up with less light loss, since the keystone would be less. BTW... Have a WONDERFUL celebration of the CHRIST of GOD... JESUS is his name! When projecting White on a White background ( 8:05 ), can you map it 'darker', so that it's not blown out against the rest of the white projected image?
