RIP Pat DiNizio. Never heard of this before. Loved Belinda Carlisle back in the day too. I fortunately got to see the Go Gos on their farewell tour, but never saw the Smithereens live. I miss 80s music.
This was Pat's greatest memory and what he considered his career high point,,, I remember talking with him and seeing the serine smile on his face when he talked about his duet with Belinda..
Thank you for sharing this. Unique song. Reminds me of ""you have to hide your love away" which was a favorite of Pat's and the band and so many others of us as well.
I googled this. It was 1990. I remember that year very well. Was the same year I saw the smithereens at the Orpheum theater in Boston. One of the most memorable concerts I've ever been to.
I heard Pat say this was recorded at a studio owned by "The Captain" of "The Captain and Tennille" fame. I asked about the hat. And yes, he said he was wearing the hat too.
this was a strange combo but Belinda's voice sounds good on the album version of the song. I agree the Smithereens did not have many bad songs even the album tracks were great !
The two voices did not blend well I am sorry to say. But Pat was a great guy and an outstanding musician, oh so talented and pathetically underrated. He was a Very Highly Intelligent man who ran for office here in NJ back around 2000, he got my vote but he lost to a goofball with more money to burn. He lived 8 miles from me his whole life and I always respected that he stayed tethered to home and his family. This is the only way to stay grounded in his profession, just ask Bruce. I miss his music, I know there was so much left in him. God Bless you and rest you Brother, Che si dice?

Brian Quinn nah. I pretty much tell it like it is. I didn’t know that this guy died though. I liked the one song. I didn’t know that they had such a large fan base.
I love this, he has such a great voice, such a shame he didn't do more collaborations with other artists, RIP Pat, I loved what you do!
I just read that Gerri Sutyak, the cellist on this song, has passed away. Her work here makes the song so much more memorable. RIP, Gerri.
D best colab!!Reminds me of myteen Spirits of 80s newwave
Goodbye, Pat; we'll miss you. What a soul, what a voice.
they work well together on this incredible song

Loved this combo! 👍🏻❤✌🏻
I love this song,...
Love them both
R.I.P. , Pat. :(
beautiful song--very poetic and touching
I've never heard a boring or even so-so Smithereens song. They're all finely crafted. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite -- maybe "Cut Flowers."
You nailed it with cut flowers, no other side, quite like it.
Great song!RIP Pat.
I'm devastated R.I.P. Pat
such a great song
RIP Pat Dinizio
Pamela Kilponen Sad face.

Songwriting genius 🧚♂️💋🌩️🌹🌹🌹
Uggg Man Miss this guy.
Song writing on par with the Beatles 🌤💝💕💕💕
Agreed
@@garylefevers Something new
LOL Lennon and McCartney should have a songwriters' credit for lifting "In My Life"!
You have got to be joking? Beatles?
this is marvelous
So sad that Pat is just GONE. RIP, dear soul.
Nono no. You get a Go-Go' you do Behind The Wall Of Sleep. 'And she stood just like Kathy Valentine....'
some of the bass runs i have heard
Interesting to hear this song without the harpsichord. The harpsichord adds a lot but it nice to be able to hear the cello better.
Here's a version with the two of them AND the harpsichord. Much better! ua-cam.com/video/pzgHvAKDg7Y/v-deo.html
RIP Pat
lovely vid...
song...
lovely woman too
Miss Pat
R.I.P. Pat.
Everyone who is truly talented seems to be dying. Why?
Soon, we’ll be left with bieber and Kanye.
It's bad! After Prince died, a kid in his early 20's I worked with at the time, asked "Whose Prince'? The forecast is cloudy indeed.
Borrowed shamelessly from "In My Life"...drum beat and the solo.

she literally added nothing to the song.
In your opinion, perhaps.
You’re right. She musta gave him a knobber. He felt compelled.
