I remember back in 1984 at 7 years old going through my uncle's record collection and finding "Piece of Mind". I was blown away. I'd put it on back in the bedroom and sit there and listen to it start to finish every chance I could. I got my first Maiden record 3 years later when I was 10, "Powerslave". I still remember saving all my money from mowing lawns and shoveling snow to get all of the Maiden records and T-shirt after T-shirt. I miss those days.
For our senior prom, it was Egyptian themed and my best friend and I were in art class. We did a backdrop for the dance of the Powerslave album cover. It was on huge rollers of butcher paper taped together and was 25’ high. We had to stack tables on top of each other to get to the top to draw it in chalk pastels. We sprayed the whole thing to set it when we were done. It was awesome! I wish we had pictures of it! We did another on black paper of a more traditional Egyptian death mask and the official pictures were in front of that.
Buy Store Yeah man!!! Great dudes !! NOBODY gives out and cares more for their fans than the Mighty Maiden!!! I have to say that of every tour I have seen them(# Beast was 1`st) Powerslave was probably the most polished, cleanest ,best one. They were at the peak of their prime and power in `84-`85. That is my opinion, Piece of Mind was very much the same. That tour ,they were Headlining for the first time over Priest Scorps, MSG,Bon Jovi, Quiet Riot, and others. Before then it was usually the other way around. 82 was Maiden and Priest, with Maiden first up. FUCK I Loved that Madison Square Garden show!!!! Both bands trying their best to win over the crowd!!!! Classic, Fucking unreal!!! That was amazing.
Other end of the musical spectrum but They Might be Giants are just like this, instead of running scared from the internet like the rest of the music industry they dove right in and put all their albums up long before most did.
My brother is 5 years older than me and I was born in 75 and I listened to whatever he did and so it started with KISS and progressed to Metallica and everything in between but when I first heard Maiden even though I was probably 8 or 9 I could tell that they were something special. They played their instruments better than any other group at the time and it was obvious even to an 8 year old.
Saw the Powerslave Tour in Houston in 1985. Still one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Live After Death album is the one album I would take to the grave. "Scream for me Long Beach. Scream for me Long Beach, The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner...". Who the F knew Nicko was in the pool. LMFAO...
I remember attending the Powerslave tour at Long Beach Arena. I have never seen a show like that in my life, it blew my mind. The first night I sat in the forth row, the second night I was in the balcony. I can honestly say nothing has come close to a Iron Maiden live performance.
I've spent countless hours staring at all of their album covers...stoned outta my mind. To me Iron Maiden LP cover art is as good as anything that Picasso or any of those other famous artists created. 🎼🤟🎨
My brother got the live after death album when it first came out, it was my first experience with metal, been a fan of Iron Maiden since. In August 2019, took my daughter with me, to see them for the Legacy of the Beast tour, we both can't wait to see them again, up the irons.
“He was a fantastic guy who always shared a mutual respect with the band. He never, ever, let us down in the studio. He was a true gentleman and he will be hugely missed by everyone in the Maiden Family." (Rod Smallwallet)
I had the privilege of being at the first of many Iron Maiden shows in Brazil. It was the World Slavery Tour in 85'. I am happy that my country is part of the tours. Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷
I've seen Maiden 25 times 10 from the front row, amazing every time. I actually met them twice, what a great bunch of guys!!! They took all kinds of pictures with me, signed a bunch of autographs, basically just hung out like we had been friends for 20 years.
My high school history teacher in the 90s used this song in class. He was a closet metalhead. Odd to think that he could have got in trouble for that back then.
I saw this amazing band on the World Slavery Tour on or around September 7th, 1985 at Nassau Colosseum in Uniondale, NY with Accept opening for them. One of the absolutely greatest shows I have ever seen in my life. I was 18 years old then. I'm 51 now. Iron Maiden was such an important part of my teenage years, as I had discovered them in late 1983. Always a fan, forever and ever. Once and always, UP THE IRONS!!!! 🤘
Touring like that would make me give up. I'm sure the money helps, but it takes more than that to drive this sort of dedication. You have to have a special sort of composition to do what these guys did, day after day, night after night, year after year.
I saw Maiden for the 1st time on the Powerslave Tour, in WACO TEXAS. Fucking brilliant. I will never ever forget that. We could not believe our heroes, the biggest heavy metal band in the world, came to play in Waco fucking Texas at the Waco Convention Center. God bless whoever set that shit up.
50yrs old, my friend and I'm parallel w ya. Same. Beast hooked me, Piece taught me how to play guitar and Powerslave was brilliant. Absolute masterpiece of growth while keeping the rock, story, drama and power.
Thank you for making all these documentary videos available to me and your legions of fans. You are the rare exception of a band that never forgot us and have always given back. This is another example of how truly class acts you all are. One of the best Heavy Metal Bands of all time when the genre was still defining itself. Maiden was a pioneer thanks to Steve Harris and his original vision the pieces fell into place and we now have the evolution of that Idea. IRON MAIDEN.... UP THE IRONS TILL I DIE! LONG LIVE EDDIE!
I have extreme "Implicit Memory" kick in as soon as I hear "Somewhere In Time"...that song brings all sounds, smells, tastes and feelings back from Waikiki Beach 1986 ~The Good ole DAZE! Thank you for writing a song that actually creates time traveling.
I've heard a wholesome anecdote from Powerslave Tour. After a show in Poland they stayed in a hotel where a random wedding reception took part. When the groom spot the band members at that hotel bar, he approached them and jokingly asked them to play at his party. They liked that idea and performed few songs for the wedding couple and their guests. I'm not a diehard Iron Maiden fan but this story is absolutely adorable, and shows how outgoing and friendly they are. I guess that the video is available on yt. Also, the logistics behind Powerslave is absolutely remarkable. What is also impressive, are the locations. It was an actual world tour not just couple of gigs in the US and the biggest European capitals. It's so common that disappointed fans from other parts of the world are not even surprised anymore, and "come to Brasil" has became a meme. Absolutely remarkable!
I graduated high school in rural Southern United States, in 1985. We knew who Metallica was. We knew who Judas Priest was. But who was this Iron Maiden? That winter...Live After Death came out. I scraped together the $10 or so from working a fast food hamburger joint, making $3.35 hr...and bought it. I could not believe what I had been missing. Those twin lead guitars...sold me on Iron Maiden. To this day...anytime I go on a long driving trip...I will put Live After Death on...and jam the whole way. Brings me right back to my youth. What a blast of hurricane force winds...that album was. Love it.
Neil Peart of Rush would always play everything in his drum kit. I was at a Rush concert in Denver many years ago during Roll Them Bones tour and peart played a drum solo that was more of a twenty minutes plus master clinic. Phenomenal !
I was standing like 10 feet from him @ Farewell to Kings 77-catering crew @ Santa Monica civic. Even then his set was big, for a not-so-big stage. And yes, he played all of it. They opened for UFO, another incredible band! Those crazy blokes even let us hang with them. Crazy fks, them!
Iron Maiden is nothing less than freaking awesome...not just in terms of killer tunes and a great stage show, but from everything I've ever heard, a super nice bunch of guys, very easygoing and laid back, and very humble. Very cool.
At 14 years old, the Powerslave tour was my very first show. It blew my mind and changed my life. It sparked a lifelong obsession with live music. I suppose I've been trying to re-live that experience every since. To this day I'd still say its one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
Awesome. I was 17 in the summer of '84 when my buddy and I found out Maiden is coming to Poland - holy shit! So we did anything and everything to get enough dough for the tix and went to Poznan Arena. It wasn't my first show of western band but it was the greatest!!! Obviously because of music, but also gear, the whole show, Eddie and .....tear gas which was sprayed by ZOMO (Mechanized Armored Police) when, probably Ron Smallwood decided to give away free Maiden posters. The crowd went berzerk xD. Later on it was hilarious when someone organized football match between Iron Maiden and crew against Polish music journalists. If you haven't seen it, it's featured in Behind The Iron Curtain vid. I'll never forget the whole experience. peace.
Because of Donna separate DVD just on that match! Sure you block somebody took some pictures or a movie of it unless the home team won? Inquiring minds want to know, did Eddie play forward?
The football match sounds like something they did a few places on tour. I had a high school teacher in Canada back decades ago, Mr.Miller who came to class with a bit of a hangover one morning. We were bugging him about what caused it and he casually mentioned he was playing football with Maiden the night before. Lucky Bastard
@@markbarca1407 LOL ......unfortunately Eddie had a huge hangover so he couldn't play.....home team tried all the tricks to win but it was Bruce and boys who'd won. Even Ron scored a goal xD

I think the "forgotten" theses, number 96, that Martin Luther nailed to that church door, insisted that there's nothing wrong with listening to British heavy metal bands who flirt with Satanic imagery. A man far ahead of his time. 😉
Oh my, I was a young Christian, and we were told NOT to listen to Iron Maiden...and I didn't; until I grew up a bit and started thinking for myself. I learned that most of these were not promoting satan at all
@@andrewconrad2859 even in Luther's day his songs were considered 'worldly', cuz he used the tavern music he was familiar with. I remember singing hymns in church, and thinking how many of them could be metalised. I think someone did a record of metal hymns. Ken Tamplin maybe?
My big brother took me and my other brother to see Maiden (The Beast Tour) while living in Heidelberg, Germany. I was like 14 and It was my first concert. I will never forget it and the time that was had there. 27 April 1982 - Rhein-Neckar-Halle This was followed up with Rush Signals Tour May 11, 1983 at the same place. Concerts were the best during the 80's!!! \m/
I knew of Iron Maiden from Run to the Hills, and got loads of tapes of theirs up to Powerslave from the library (remember that folks?!) but Somewhere In Time was the first release i got the day it came out. They were THE band for me when i was aged 14-16. I saw them at Donnington '88 - and then another 3 times on the Seventh Tour, once at Wembley Arena and twice at Hammersmith. I was at the last ever gig of the classic line up - at Hammersmith. I've thought about going to see Maiden again many times since - and had a ticket for Jun 2020, but obviously covid screwed that. I've pretty much decided now, to sit with my memories of great times.

To this day, the Powerslave show in Las Vegas is the best show I have ever seen. I've seen IM a couple of times since, but that...holy cow! Loud as anything but clear as a bell. The show was so well put together.
My best friend from school, Carl, worked in the Bill Graham organization, for bands working at the Cal Expo Amphitheatre, in Sacramento. Carl told me the story about Maiden playing at there, back in 1985 ( which Nicko refers to at 41:19 ). And what the crew and band say here about the gig is an absolutely true story. The temperature on those two days ( where they set up and played ) was over 105. And the theater was set up in such a way that the band would be facing the sunset, which is when the heat gets WORSE during the summer. The pool refered to by Nicko was behind the stage. Carl also said that the crew did not have any spare towels to help wipe off Nicko before he returned. He literally had to run up the stage, completely wet and is slipping around while trying to get onto his kit, just in the nick of time before the drum break of ROTAM ( I was told that Rod was laughing hysterically on the stage left, watching all of this ). By the way, Van Halen filmed a live video at that theater, in 1991 ( live version of " Top Of The World " ). Just about EVERY band/musician played at the Cal Expo Amphitheatre. You name it: Maiden, Rush, Van Halen, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Mr. Big, Tesla, Scorpians, Night Ranger. . . A very popular venue that no longer exists, sadly.
Great memory, David! I was in fkn LA, and the only cool venues left (Greek theatre and Hollywood Bowl) didn't host metal. Did see Stryper @ Universal amphitheatre tho..'87
21:33 Well, the World Slavery Tour was my first show I ever saw. Feb 16, 1985 in Lakeland, Florida. Twisted Sister opened, Maiden headlined! I've been to see Iron Maiden four times since ('87, '88, '11, & '17). Up the Irons!!! 23:36 It's Borat! Uh heavy metal I like it very much.
21:32 The World Slavery Tour was genuinely the first gig I ever attended and it had an utterly profound effect on me. That was my lifelong love of metal triggered. Amazing stuff! 🎸☠️🤘
My adolescence was dominated by Iron Maiden. My bedroom, growing up, was wallpapered with posters. I even had the Eddie full door poster. Derrick’s artwork was amazing and the music was even better. I love the band to this day but one of the highlights of my entire life was backstage at the 2000 Dallas show (Maiden, Queensryche and Halford) when I got to meet Nicki and Scott Rockenfield. Being a drummer myself, it was the stuff of dreams.
I was at that Radio City show in 1985 where Bruce sat down most of the show because he was sick. Still a good show and he didn't cancel it, a real class act.
I'm Brazilian. My understanding of English is fairly good. I can understand (almost) everything the other band members and crew are saying. But Steve Harris' speech is nearly unintelligible, lol
The comment around 23:45 reminded me of Synthwave, how some of the people inside the genre used to play metal and then used this knowledge, sound and feeling translated into synths to deliver some powerful music. It only took them like 30 years or so though.
Jan 3rd 1985 Cincinnati Ohio , Cincinnati Gardens , Holds 11,000 plus . I was 14, Was my first concert, Twisted Sister was the opener I was even able to buy beer LOL

“Imagine the first show you’ve seen in your life is Powerslave. My God, it must be a real drag after that.” He’s not kidding. My first concert was Maiden at Radio City Music Hall on January 20, 1985. No show has ever topped it.
I love the fact that they never toned down their London working class accents, most people will struggle to understand, but that`s the way we speak. The word noggin at 16:31 is a slang word for head, just letting you know.
Noggin was a pretty common term where i get up in Canada, every time I did something stupid (so almost daily) my dad/coach/teacher would tell me to use my noggin or give your noggin a shake.

All DVD's content for free. Who else does something like that? Thank you!! #UptheIrons
Who else does something like this? Only a truly amazing band: *Iron Maiden* 🤘
@Aleksandar NESKOVIC ask Metallica about that. I believe they are _still_ scared of Napster :)
Cannibal Corpse did tho but I think with TBDM and Maiden they arectue only ones
My brother is 5 years older than me and I was born in 75 and I listened to whatever he did and so it started with KISS and progressed to Metallica and everything in between but when I first heard Maiden even though I was probably 8 or 9 I could tell that they were something special. They played their instruments better than any other group at the time and it was obvious even to an 8 year old.
23:45 Wow, imagine having Iron Maiden as your wedding band! Epic
Possibly the only thing that would make me want to get married lol
These guys are amazing, never any drama between eachother, it’s all just fun and full of Metal, which is what a Metal Band should be!
Except for the 30 guys they kicked out lol
Well, Adrian left the band twice. So did Dave. Bruce left the band once. The only guy who was always a member was Steve, since it's his band and all.
Justice Productions Yep and ain’t it awesome.
Justice Productions Not in the beginning though. Steve and Bruce bumped heads a few times.
There was definitely a lot of drama with Bruce leaving.
The Powerslave/ Somewhere in Time album art is unparalleled.
I've spent countless hours staring at all of their album covers...stoned outta my mind. To me Iron Maiden LP cover art is as good as anything that Picasso or any of those other famous artists created. 🎼🤟🎨
Somewhere in time was my favorite album, just well put together.
Me too, such an incredible album!
Also my fave.
My brother got the live after death album when it first came out, it was my first experience with metal, been a fan of Iron Maiden since. In August 2019, took my daughter with me, to see them for the Legacy of the Beast tour, we both can't wait to see them again, up the irons.
Up the Irons!
My brother had the 8 track of Piece of Mind! Up the Irons!
Up The Irons!
Mybrother and I wore out Live after Death 3 or 4 times lol
Cool Dad award!😎
Just heard the news Martin birch died..absolutely guttered RIP martin "starfish" birch 🤟
“He was a fantastic guy who always shared a mutual respect with the band. He never, ever, let us down in the studio. He was a true gentleman and he will be hugely missed by everyone in the Maiden Family." (Rod Smallwallet)
Rest in peace Martin You were a Awsome Recording Producer.
Rest in peace Martin you will be missed mate...
Best heavy metal band of all time! I’m 52 and still sport my Iron Maiden shirts and jam out!
Hell yeah man!
U gawd damn right there bucko
I had the privilege of being at the first of many Iron Maiden shows in Brazil. It was the World Slavery Tour in 85'. I am happy that my country is part of the tours. Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷
I've never been a fan of the music but they have a great story. They all seen genuinely happy too.
Snowy morn in halifax england. Watching this amazing doc about my all time fave band.
I've seen Maiden 25 times 10 from the front row, amazing every time. I actually met them twice, what a great bunch of guys!!! They took all kinds of pictures with me, signed a bunch of autographs, basically just hung out like we had been friends for 20 years.
the rime of the Ancient mariner is a master piece! When powerslave was released, i listened in loop 2 weeks...
My high school history teacher in the 90s used this song in class. He was a closet metalhead. Odd to think that he could have got in trouble for that back then.
@@rsvp9146 but it's a very educational song🤓🤘
Piece of Mind has always been the 1st cd I grab hen I take a road trip. Great interstate driving disc.
Without a doubt the best live band ever. I actually prefer most of their songs live versus the studio versions.
Ah, it was so wonderful being a teen Maiden fan in the '80's! You would assume everyone was back then, but I was one of the very few in HS!
MIssion From 'arry is still pure gold.
I love how Nicko vocalises playing drum parts
A beat-boxer from way back, dude 🙃
Number of the beast and powerslave are my favorites. I am 52 and have been a fan since 15. Number of the beast got me hooked👍🏻
My favourite is a matter of life and death at the moment but my Maiden taste is always switching up
50yrs old, my friend and I'm parallel w ya. Same.
Beast hooked me, Piece taught me how to play guitar and Powerslave was brilliant. Absolute masterpiece of growth while keeping the rock, story, drama and power.
I love Number of the Beast, Fear of the Dark, Trooper and Run To The Hills.

@@settimarte 52 and still banging my head to this
I still remember buying that first album.. metal never dies .. thx for all the music 🤘🏻
January 11 in 1985 in Rock in Rio, I was there. Whitesnake, Iron Maiden and Queen on the same day. It was unbelievable!
Did you WATCH this documentary? It’s in there. We see them doing “Smoke on the Water” at a Polish wedding reception.
January 1985 - Radio City Music Hall - NYC. My first of many Maiden Shows.
Love it.
Haha, I LOVE the Eddie stories. It's so Spinal Tap and wonderful!
Such good memories watching it, as a 2 DVD set in my DVD player again and again and again...
Very cool.
Photographer’s story around 25:40 cracks me up every time...
@@buckodonnghaile4309 hahaha - awesome!

He's right. That tour was only the 2nd big show I'd ever been to. Been to many shows since. Nothing has ever topped it. Nothing ever will.
An excellent reminiscing of the metal guitar days of my youth, still have all my gear (as dusty as it is).... this documentary makes me wanna' play again !!!
Nicko McBrain seems like such a riot to hang out with! lol....He's so jolly.

@@willpayne6249 for me I guess it was Cal Jam 2. Once I was backstage when Aerosmith played a stadium, and I was like 10 yds from a wall of speakers. Only time I ever got nauseous from sound.
My first Iron Maiden concert in Selland Arena 1985 during the Powerslave tour. Had a fucking blast! My ears were ringing for days. Up The Irons!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
What's still a trip to this day is my Dad was a Lutheran Theologian bought me the number of the beast and Sabbaths Sold my soul for for rock n roll for Christmas in '82/83.
World Slavery Tour was the first time I saw Maiden live. Loved it so much, seen them so many times since then xx
"Imagine your first live concert being powerslave."
Yeah. That was me. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Mine was "somewhere on tour" cos I could NOT stop listening to "live after death". I haf to see that with my own eyes
No my first show, but happy i got some

powerslave and number of the beast are two of their best .. bruce really showed what he could do with those vocals ......their first 2 with paul are classics 2. great voice for those 2 albums ....phantom of the opera ..killer jam wrathchild ...paul diaanos best on those two .....BRUCE TOOK THEM TO ANOTHER LEVEL WITH NUMBER OF THE BEAST .hallowed be thy name ...22 acacia avenue. it dont get no better.i love all their new stuff 2 ...but their old stuff have stood the test of time.
Snap, Hammersmith Odeon.
Interviewers always try and analyse success. Here you realise it is just down to belief, hard work, believing in yourself, not worrying about others opinions and living day by day. Steve is a role model for the younger generation in how to cunduct yourself. Love him
I watching Live after death on vhs cassette in Bulgaria and this is the best live album ever.
Really blast from the past. Maiden were always a favourite of mine. The album Powerslave was/amazing. Takes me right back to those days. Still have a vinyl copy of that album, signed by the band too!

Actually, that's prolly my fave IM record..I was a late arrival on the Maiden voyage
"We can guess who they were..." 5 second still on Nicko
Great footage, and rest in peace Steve Gadd. Live after death was my introduction to maiden back in 85 and been a fan ever since! Up the irons

My first was Dark Side of the Moon 10 yrs earlier. Same effect, but in a different way...
Fucking autocorrect, NICKO!
Love how they always impersonate Rod! its funny
I was at that Radio City show in 1985 where Bruce sat down most of the show because he was sick. Still a good show and he didn't cancel it, a real class act.
I'm Brazilian. My understanding of English is fairly good. I can understand (almost) everything the other band members and crew are saying. But Steve Harris' speech is nearly unintelligible, lol
same here, dude. Steve's accent is hard to understand
Steve's accent isn't that bad...try being from the American South, and having to listen to someone from Northern Maine...
He's a proper east end geezer !
Could be worse, could be gazza
I'm from Chile and same thing with me bro hahahaha.
I was 14, Was my first concert, Twisted Sister was the opener

I love the fact that they never toned down their London working class accents, most people will struggle to understand, but that`s the way we speak. The word noggin at 16:31 is a slang word for head, just letting you know.
